Well T-Mobile, looks like you have fully reimbursed me for the inconveniences that you have presented me during my replacement order, maybe OVER reimbursed me. Why? Here's the story.
I posted a thread named "Tmobile Lost my Phone?" a few days ago where I described my situation in which Tmobile made a mistake on the replacement order for my Vibrant. As a prepaid customer, I have to ship the phone in first before I get a replacement, so I believe a person in the return center confused it with a postpaid replacement where you receive the replacement phone first, thus causing the delay. Well, I contacted the executive response department and they expedited a new replacement order. Great, so now I recontact Tmobile customer service again and this time, they tell me the order was finally sent, after 16 business days.
The result? I now have two Samsung Vibrants, one with the battery and the back cover, and another without a battery or back cover.
Just wanted to share my story. (Should I trade one of the Vibrants?) Maybe I should change my sig...
Watch those karma points my friend. Sounds like you earned it, but I am just saying...
when you bought your vibrant, didn't it come with a extra cover? and the batteries are 30-40 dollars, buy one its worth it you saved a few hundred dollars.
Lost the spare cover, but batteries on ebay are 7 dollars and battery covers 10 I think.

Karma? Well, I spent 2 weeks without a phone for business or personal use, contacted tmobile customer care about 20 times, filed BBC claims, and finally got to a executive rep.

I've gotten 2 phones replaced FREE as well as a battery as a prepaid customer and they always sent the replacement first before I returned the one I had. They even offered me the opportunity to go into a tmo store and get a free replacement loaner until I received the replacement vibrant!
Me too. They gave me a phone and a shipping bag for the dead phone.
Shipping bag for the dead phone? As in a bag to ship in the faulty phone?
Hey guys, do you think an HD2 with 35 dollars cash is a good trade?

i think hd2 with 75 cash is a better deal. hd2 just sucks really bad and has old hardware. if anything you can probably get a g2 for it
I just got an offer for a "good" condition g2. But I am not a fan of the z- hinge and the screen is too small imo.
I may get lucky and just trade for a hd7.

good luck with that. i tried to trade for an hd7 and all the craigslist ads said vibrant and 100 bucks for it. besides hd7 has same hardware as hd2. if all you care about is screen size then go ahead and try. you can always try and just sell it for about 200-300 bucks
ps don't forget if you get the g2 you don't have to use the keyboard and the screen is only .2 in smaller then the vibrant

my wife has a G2 and honestly i can't even tell the difference in the screen size when i use it. the display is not as good, but not too much. plus, i just flashed GingerVillian 1.5 (cm7) on it and man is it sweet. i'd go for the G2 for sure.
I had the hd7

just random looking at everyone's signature and it looks like everyones running flagship v4 now a days. just saying, it has nothing to do with this post. what does have to do with this post is if you can, go with the g2 you'll still have the vibrant. plus you can try out tmobiles real 4g speeds
I returned my G2 for the Vibrant and could not be happier. The G2 is very heavy! If you drop it and it is not protected, it will surely break. Also its kind of thick. Kind of feels like a TV remote in your pocket. I also felt the screen could have used more width. And the Z hinge is cool, but it pops open when you dont want it to more often than you'd think. Gets irritating.
I would have kept it if the Vibrant had not been an equal trade. As for now, You're better off selling your second vibrant and waiting for a dual core device!
Id sell and use that money on a new device or trade for a tablet and some cash.

Well The glass is not as strong as I thought. I only dropped it getting out of my car on to the pavement. The screen it still working but idk for how long. I just added insurance through Sprint right now because I didn't have it. I bought it from Best Buy. So now what should I just claim it was stolen and get a new one? Should I wait to make a claim? How much is it? This just toped my bad day, I need a drink!

Uh this could work?
If its within 30 daysof you buying it then I believe that any claims have to go through best buy since you bught it there....if it is past the 30 days then you can just take it into a sprint store and they should repair/replace it for you....if they don't do it for free then they will just charge you the deductible the same as if you reported it lost/stolen

Well I'm seeing posts that its $100 deductible from Sprint's 3rd party. But everything online i see from Sprint says $50. If its $100 then the above post for the screen replacement is worth it. I have tore a Epic down yet but I think i capable of doing it. I called Best buy and they said that if i have their insurance ($10 a month) They will send it out put a $150 hold on my card then replce it if its not fixable with a new one. Im with in my 30 day so IDK ??????????????

Beware of replacement screens off ebay.
Most of the replacement screens for the Epic are LCD screens which are NOT SuperAmoled! So its maybe 20 or 30 bucks cheaper but it aint gonna be any thing like the original.
My advice is to just pay the $100 deductible and get a new one through sprint. You will at least be sure you are getting a S.Amoled screen!!

wondering how it looks like.
This is from me getting out the car with the phone on my lap. about a 2 -3 foot drop directly on the screen.
Now to decide weather i should cancel the Sprint insurance and got get the Best Buy insurance. Best Buy said they will add me on sent it to their repair center then if its deemed unrepairable they will give me a new one. 10$ per month $150 deposit that i get back according to them.
wonder if squaretrade may be a better option?
Here is a response I received from the seller of the replacement part.
Dear 420whitewidow420,
Hi, this screen is two layers. It sounds like you just cracked the outside layer, the touchscreen. The lcd underneath is still fine. The part in the ad will include both screens and the back. Pretty much as long as your motherboard is okay this will take care of it. Thanks.

It's not going to be super amoled from an ebay vendor because Samsung has tight control of production at this point in time. IIRC the s.amoled tech allows the touchscreen and led screen to be attached to each other so most likely you broke both and/or can't replace them separately. I think the ebay guy just wants to sell you the kit regardless of whether it will help you. I would definitely not buy it.
For what it's worth, this is from the AMOLED wiki (bolding from me): The main difference between a Samsung Super AMOLED and AMOLED is that touch is integrated into the screen instead of an extra layer on top of it. This results in a thinner device, 20% brighter, reflects 80% less sun*light and consumes 20% less power. Color is more vivid and natural, viewing angles are improved since that extra touch layer is removed with better light transmittance.
I have a rooted HTC Evo, well 2 of them really, my girl friend and my own. My Evo was dropped and I broke the glass, but it works amazing still.
The only reason I'm getting rid of our Evos, is the simple fact I got a new job with AT&T and they are giving me free phone service.
So my question is this, what would be a fair price?
Phone 1
Fully Rooted Evo with a cracked screen
Phone 2
Hardly used Evo in perfect shape
Cables and Charges
They both have cases, black and red as well some cables and charges I'd throw in.
I was thinking $200 for the broken one and $350-$400 for the one in perfect shape. I'm just looking to cover my ETF with Sprint.
When I have something to sell I'll usually check Craigslist to see what other people are asking and Ebay to see what other people are actually getting. I personally think $200 is overly optimistic for any phone with a broken screen, but that's only based on what I'd be willing to pay.
Pete
I would take the broken one in to Sprint and have them fix the screen before you sell it.

Or if you're feeling confident, a friend of mine got hold of a broken Evo from another friend of his. (This other friend just went and bought a whole new phone, so the old one was fine ESN-wise, it just had a cracked screen.) Anyway, we scoured ebay and found the right replacement front panel (digitizer, lcd, and front panel housing) for about $65, it took less than 10 minutes to install and reassemble the phone and now it's good as new.

Why spend the money and take the risk when you can just bring it in to the store and have them do it for free?
Fix it for free? Seriously? So I can take it to my Sprint Store in Folsom, CA and have them fix it? I have insurance on the phone, but that company is insane to try to work with.

Yeah, as long as you have TEP on that line, they will fix a broken screen for free. It came with the new changes in Sprint TEP coverage last month. It's $35 for a new screen if you don't have TEP, which is still an awesome deal, big win for everybody. I'm about to go try it out myself, as I just got a crack in my screen a couple day ago.
Also, $200 is way too much for a broken phone, I'd say $100-$150. So, it's very worth it to get it fixed first. It may be different where you are, but here, NIB Evo's get about $350 and like new one's go for $300. Remember, the phone is in stock everywhere now, so anyone can go buy one from Sprint NIB for $450. I see them go for $425 on Ebay, but with Paypal fees, Ebay fees and shipping, ur back down to $350
I am posting a new thread because the other related threads were misleading at best and I searched high and low for this info and finally took a chance to confirm it.
When I lost my nexus at the beginning of the month, Asurion told me they would not replace it, my only choice was a vibrant.
I tried the MT4G for this month (CA has 30 day remorse) and prefer the N1.
Called again and told them the last info I could find from August was that N1 was available from google through the developer program. I could not find any answer to the question "Is the Nexus One really still available?"
I spent the $25 to join the developer program and the answer is "YES"
I can order up to 10 at full retail.
Of course, if this were uninsured, I would just buy one off the street and I will drop the insurance because it has been a royal waste of time, but as soon as I scrape up an extra $600 (because it will likely take a while for Asurion to reimburse me), I will get it.
I went all the way through the purchase process up to the place order button, so it looks like there is no backorder or anything.
It appears the only requirement to join the developer program is a google account (can be an apps account but only certain kinds) and $25.
Edit - Fockers backed out on my "deal" only offering POS vibrant. certainly not same capability or features as N1.
Fail to see how this indicates that Asurion will cover your new N1... How about we wait and see what happens in the end.

They will reimburse you up to the retail value of the phone, minus deductible, if you don't wish to use one of the options they provide you. If you want to spend the $ to join as a developer, the OP is right - they will cover you.
so are you saying they will only offer the vibrant and not the mytouch 4g?
The OP is saying that he will pony up $600 out of his pocket for a new Nexus One, which will then be reimbursed by Asurion, minus $140 deductible.
hhmm.
1. At what point can the insurance be added?
I bought my Nexus when it came out earlier this year.
I am not a developer, just a damned happy user.
2. At what point can I pay the $25 developer fee?
T-Mobile told me that they would NOT insure my Nexus cause, because I didn't have insurance on my previous phone (G1), and also because I didn't but it through them.
I really dont NEED the insurance. Jeez, I've never even dropped my Nexus. It's still pristine
But I'd rather have it and not need it ... than to need it and not have it.

1. If I remember correctly policy says within 30 days, but I would call them anyways as they still might. When I got mine they wanted to physically see the phone first, just to make sure they weren't insuring air or an already broken phone. Made sense since I didn't buy it from T-Mo they couldn't just look it up. Bought mine on launch day, and had ins. by the end of the week. $140 deduct is way cheaper than $579 again. It did take a week to get everyone on the same page (Asurian and T-Mo) since the phone was so fresh it wasn't in any of their published list of phones yet.
2. Anytime. It's just to register as a developer. If you never buy a phone or make an app im sure Google is happy to keep your $25. Just buy the phone whenever you're ready.
I got the insurance because warranties are for *ussies. I like to void them (XBMC, DD-Wrt, cars, etc) and planned to with my Nexus as well. Since warranties are intended to only ever cover manufacturer defects, not user error, if I bricked it or fried it it's insured. Look into it, and if you can get it do it. It's only like $4.95 a month. And you're right: If you don't have it, you'll need it. And if you have it, you wont need it.
And don't fear dropping it, I have. Too many times. Almost shed a tear the first time. Til I realized this thing is so damn-well built, I have but only 3 scratches. And it has taken a couple of ugly falls.

They didn't let me take this path and I called 3 times talked to different people. In the final call, I said I'd prefer a G2 since it is very similar amd this very nice/polite guy went to the supervisor (so he said) and 10 mins he came back and said they woudlnt do it bcause the G2 has a keyboard and the N1 doesn't. The G2 covers the G1 he said.
So, I have now a vibrant which I am starting to like except for the GPS which is worth &^#$. However the Vibrant experience made me decide to get a Nexus S when it comes out (GPS fixed-hopefully, camera flash, 2.3, SAMOLED, etc etc).
Messing with the vibrant firmware is a tricky road though.
Funny thing, I bought a G2 and disliked it to death (except the HSDPA+), returned it in five days, tried an HD7 and settled on the Vibrant at the end.

That is correct at this time. I found someone to lend me the extra $500 and called asurion to make sure I had the process right and fockers said "we show reimbursement is denied for this phone because we can't go to the google site and buy it"
It's completely f'd up. The damn phone is available at retail for the same purpose it was originally sold (developer phone) and they are saying "nope".
My claim can stay open through late april, so I am going to hold on until I can find a way to force them to get me an N1 or get something better than a POS samsung vibrant.

Has anyone had success getting asurion to cover an N1 purchased from anywhere besides google's website?
This seems like typical insurance ripoff crap. I think I will have to consider squaretrade or one of the other "write a check" type providers for my next phone. I sure won't do assurion anymore unless it is just until I get another policy in place.

Almost certainly not. They don't even offer the G2, only the POS vibrant.
About two weeks before my claim, they changed the way they work with T-Mobile.
They only authorize phones that T-Mobile sells and T-Mobile ships out the replacement handsets from their own warehouse.
This doesn't make sense for a phone that is unlocked and is just using T-Mobile service, but asurion seems to be saying they only provide replacement phones that are sold by carriers no matter what you think you are insuring with them.

Yep. Happened to me, the first vibrant had a greenish screen so I cried foul but came with a *T-Mobile* 1yr warranty in the box, so they bounced me to TMO who shipped me a replacement one, refurb as well. Came from the same address and in the same box as the original.
They were nice during the whole very long process (seems I was lucky, I saw tons of people on the web claiming they were quite rude).
I'm not hating the Vibrant so far -although I tried to reject it in every possible way-. Has a nice screen and doesn't have the 3G issue I had until the last day and my GF's still has. Miss Froyo and an easy way to install roms. Has a freakin' awesome camera....

How much are Vibrants going for on Ebay? Perhaps get the Vibrant and sell it. Cash money toward a Nexus
OR
Just call can keep complaining. Say you were instructed to buy the phone and get reimbursed. Tell them you "now" have the phone and are awaiting reimbursement.
ELSE
Tell them you want all of the money you paid to them refunded since they are running a fraudulent scam of a business.
I just went through something like this (not exactly) with Asurion. You pay $5 a month. I had a Motorola Cliq and it was junk. Regardless I smashed it. The deductible was $120. wtf. I could buy a new one for less as my line was eligible for an upgrade.
Needless to say I purchased a MyTouch 3G Slide, in which case my GF left 4 days later. Moral of the story: Don't buy chicks phones and don't pay for Asurion crap. I broke the motorola on accident btw.

Exactly and if you try to make a claim, they will offer you a Samsung Vibrant AND THAT'S IT!
I need to find my actual contract to see if there is any fine print I can take advantage of. Online I read something in one policy that they would replace it with a device with the same capabilities. I am not sure that is in mine.
You're better off buying a squaretrade policy, it looks like, and just holding the assurion policy for the 30 day grace period before squaretrade takes effect. If you buy squaretrade same day as purchase, no waiting period.
If squaretrade can't fix or replace, they write you a check.
Hey XDA Members,
So, my mom washed her EVO today, which broke the glass and screen; all it does it vibrates when you turn it on, but no lights/screen/sound after that, so basically dead.
No warranty w/ sprint - after the AMEX accidental warranty.
Options I've come up with are...
-Buy one on clist for $325
-Buy a new one for $400 - $450
-Cancel a line at 16 months left - $160, and the other 2 lines monthly price would go up.
-Add a forth line + buy new EVO on that
-Buy a blackberry on clist - $140ish
What's your ideas?
Thanks!

If you want something like a blackberry curve you should be able to get one for a lot less than $140! not bad phones if you don't mind a super slow almost unusable web browser. Great physical keyboards (and cleanable trackballs They should be like half that price though!

Really I would look for a cheap EVO in craigslist, they can be found cheap if it's a heavily used one but still working good.
Found a brand-new epic on craigslist for $300; that's better than the sole EVO on there for $325.
I would just get another one if you could afford it. 16 months is a long time to go without an Evo. But of course if money is a problem, then black berries really aren't all that bad.

Thought of this, but then stuck paying $10 extra a month for 4G...not that she used it in the first place. Probably needs the 4.3 inch screen or a slide out keyboard to text...so that's why I was thinking the blackberry, not the hero.
Did you try the rice trick? Put a cup of dry rice into a Ziplock bag. Take the battery out of the phone and place both into the bag. Seal it and leave it for 24 hours. It should pull all the moisture out. Pull it out, put it back together and then charge it.
Edit: Sorry... just read the part about the glass being broken. Well, I'll leave this trick posted here in case someone needs it in the future.

How long has she had it? If she had it for less than 30 days, could always call Sprint and add the insurance. You would have to wait like a week or so to put in the claim. Or you could call Sprint anyway and see if they could add the insurance anyway even if it is beyond 30 days. They might work with you. Or call Sprint and see if they have any refurbs for temp then add the insurance so if she gets another Evo, and something happens, she is covered. Insurance is always priority. I would never not add insurance to the line that contains a 600.00 phone. For example, I have had Sprint for a long time and have always had insurance on both of my lines. My Evo was stolen along with the charger and my 8GB card was in it. I immediatly called Sprint, reported my phone as stolen so they could restrict the phone to basically being a brick, they then transferred me to asurian where I paid the 100.00 deductible and they understood my phone was stolen. So instead of sending me a refurb and the card and charger, they sent me a brand new Evo in the OEM box and everything like charger and manuals were nice and wrapped. Brand spanking new. If I didn't have the insurance I would have been in the same boat as your Mom. But I would call Sprint and see what they can work out for you. But ADD insurance to the line.
How bout getting your mom a cheap $10 pre-paid phone since she isn't smart enough to NOT wash a $300 phone, especially when she's too cheap to have insurance on it...

Thanks!

Take the phone to a Sprint store and hope that some one there takes mercy upon you and helps you get some kind of deal. If you're met with a no, keep trying, don't loose your cool and be prepared to spend an hour or two. Run options like canceling the current EVO line, then getting a new line with the reduced EVO price. Take your mother with you, get her a cane with a white tip.
Soo I will start out by saying my phone has never been dropped and I rarely use the keyboard but I'm having two issues... first my screen and keyboard wobble quite a bit expectually when I'm using the screen to text etc and it squeeks a little two.... second problem is I have burned in images on my phone.. expecially where the text box and numbers should be in my mms program.. these are still visible if trying to watch a movie for example... so my quest is how will sprint handle this... are they going to make me shell out a 100 for a new phone.. or will the replace/fix it free of charge.. I do pay the 8 a month for insurance fyi.
Thanks for any help you can provide

I don't work for Sprint but your issues are ones I believe they would definitely charge the deductible for, if they agree to replace at all. Your problems arguably fall under 'normal wear & tear' since they don't hinder the normal operation of the phone. They're largely cosmetic.

I'll say this: I dropped mine, its cracked at the bottom comparible to a spider web, and it crashes when the screen turns off, which requires a battery pull/reinsert to get back on agan, and sprnt said they'll replace it for the $100 deductible.

i wouldnt mention the loose hinge,, as they will tell you it is cosmetic. the screen burn on the other hand, is an issue that should be covered. i had a bad burnt in image on mine and they gave me no hassles what so ever. they wwanted to replace the screen, witch i would have been fine with, but they didnt have any that day, so they just gave me a new in box replacement. ymmv. prolly get a refurb.
see my thread at ppcgeeks about it...

indeed. i spiderwebbed an evo about 3 weeks ago. 100 dollar deductible. i couldnt get anyone to even touch it. i wouldve ordered a screen and put it in myself, but it wouldve taken 3 weeks to get, cost 50 bucks and who knows the quality from hong kong. asurion was 100 dollars and i had a bnib replacement on my porch the next morning.

Haven't gone in yet we're going to a store that 1 hour away, and my family is busy most of the time. They also have to look at my mom's lg rumor touch. It drops calls all the time. And I know all they're gonna do is "update" the prl and send us off with it, well that's what they're gonna try to do I tried to convince her to get the intercept, but she wouldn't listen(that ws when we only had evo, epic, and intercept at sprint)

Sorry to hijack but since its a TEP thread:
Will tep cover this?
Im gonna add a family line and get a new phone for me and give my epic to my mom, but the screen has 2 TINY chips (like . big) and I want it to be nice and perfect for her. I know screen replacement is free if under 1 inch, but will they replace it with such a little defect?

They *should* since it is chipped. But you'll just have to go to a store and try it to be %100 sure.

Screens are not covered anymore if they have to be replaced. You don't have to go into a store to make a claim with asurion. If you know that it can't be fixed by a tech then just make the claim online at asurion.com just like insurance sprint never has to verify what's wrong with your phone in order to make a claim.
Wtf they won't cover screens anymore? I mean my issue was over a few months ago but that's exactly what I'm paying for. If I have to pay a deductible of 100 every single time....that's borderline to making it worth cancelling insurance after 1 year because you can just do an early upgrade if your gold. Such bs

you guys do realize these are like 400 dollar devices. why is it a big deal to pay a $100 bucks for a bnib device with next day shipping?
Stores will not replace your phone anymore. Must go through asurion online.
I dropped my phone and cracked it. Took it to store and they said yea has to be replaced. Paid 100.00 bucks. Made claim Thursday, got phone Monday. When I made claim said they were out of stock.
I am careful with my phone so I only do the $4 service plan. No deductible this way and I don't drop my phone.
What's the 4 dollar service plan get you if no deductible?

Probably just in-store type repairs only. No lost/stolen and no screen replacement (due to being cracked).
That is my guess.

Haven't read it in a while but that should be it basically. Warrant/defect repair stuff.
Insurance would cover everything else (at least it would effectively, since they don't really care what is wrong if you are paying the deductible).
