[Q] game sounds in my music :( - Vibrant General

anybody know of a way to specify which folders my music player scans? I have several hundred sound files infecting my music from assassins creed game
EDIT:
Problem is solved! Thanks!!

I THINK you can just find the folder with the undesired files and put a period at the front of the name... (.likethis)
Let me know if that works. :]
Edit: grammar...

Since I don't own Assassin Creed, I don't know where the game stores the music files. Some one else may be able to assist you there.
But one you find the correct folder, drop the ".nomedia" file attached with this post in that folder and Media Scanner will skip that folder the next time it runs. (probably want to reboot the phone after doing this so media scanner runs). This will work with all folder that you don't want scanned.
P.S. You need to extract the actual ".nomedia" from the zip, it is not a cwm flashable file.

Poweramp has a setting where you pick which folders the music comes from

[Q] Hide music and pics from Gallery and Media players?

So on other android devices to hide music and pics from the media players and gallery you would just set the folder to hidden.
I've tried this and it didn't work.
Also i've created a blank file named ".hidden" with the names of the folders i want hidden in the file and still no go.
The folders are hidden, i can see that when i connect my microSD to my PC (on ubuntu and XP) yet unwanted files still show up in the media player.
This is really annoying because i have a bunch of games and apps and all their little sound effects and pics are showing up in my gallery and music players. Theres nothing like going from one good song to sound effects of a game... :/
Anybody know how to do this right?
2.1 build 6941
Create a file called .nomedia in The directory you want to hide from the music player. Use astro.

How are you creating a .nomedia file?
I've just renamed a folder to .nomedia with stuff within the folder that I wanted to hide via Astro and now my phone has decided to deleted all my media on my phone ( music, photoss and videos ) but the media within the renamed folder is fine, I've even tried returning the folder back to it's original name and I've plugged the card on a PC and they're all gone, just the folders remain......bugger...... take it that there's no way to recover the files?

He means create a file called ".nomedia"
Like a word document would be ".doc" but don't add any other name before the dot, just worked for me too, thanks!
I just copied a small file (eg adwsettings.xml) to the directory and renamed it to .nomedia. when you start the gallery it will rebuild the thumbnails minus the files in The tree where the .nomedia file lives.
I am using the 2.1 o2 build 8xxx.

The Estrongs File Explorer allows you to create a new file with whatever name/type you want.

Are you sure there gone and not just hidden?
What I did to create the file in astro, I created a new zip archive, named it .nomedia and then selected the zip file and chose to rename it and just removed the .zip from the end.

I know this is not really related, but it does change my album art to it's own default on some albums, which i find really annoying!!!!

yeah, I've plugged my card into a PC with show all hidden files and they weren't appearing and Astro has Show Hidden Files on too
Ah well, I'll know for next time, think I've only lost a couple of photo's but most of my media has been backup....I think
There are a couple of free apps in the market that can hide what every file you like one is called HIDEIT i think
Right, copied almost all my media back onto my SD Card, I have now created a New.txt file on my PC, copied that over to a folder with media I wish to hide, then on the phone, I used Astro again to rename the New.txt file to .nomedia file and this has worked fine. Gallery doesn't see it and the files are still there, however, I then decided to test copying the newly created .nomedia file to another folder to hide some other media. Once I backed out of Astro, then entered the native photo app, the media from that folder has disappeared, however, I then return to the folder with the media I just wanted to hide and they have now been deleted again Proper random. I'm guna leave the one I have created first time as for some reason they are still present, but I'm not guna bother with this method of hiding things.
So be warned, this method of creating a .nomedia file, if not done properly, may result in you losing your media!

thats really weird, and you scared me, i just went and checked and everything is still there for me...
In most of the places i put it was in the parent folder of images/sounds i wanted to hide, not the folder they were in. For example the sounds from Lets Golf game by gameloft were showing up in my music player which are in the folder /sdcard/gameloft/games/letsgolf/ but since i have more then one gameloft game installed i put the .nomedia file in /sdcard/gameloft/ Ofcourse this wouldn't work if the files you want the media apps to ignore were only in one folder on the sdcard because then you put the .nomedia in the root of the card it would ignore all the media on the card.

Problems with fascinate music player

I flashed the signed_music.zip using clockwork. It loads and plays music fine but if I go into astro and select an mp3 I'm getting file type mp3 no found. Any ideas?

Use Root Explorer and just copy it to /system/app folder then reboot,or just install it regular with Astro or other file manager. One of these methods will work.
Where did you find a zip for the music player?
Sent from Epic(MixUp kernel)
Would like to know this as well. If you can provide a link that would be great.
I think his question is about picking an MP3 from the explorer, not trying to install the player.
Chances are that the Fascinate player is named MusicPlayer.apk. If you rename it Music.apk, like the original player was named, it might work. However, I believe that will break your Disc View.
Illogic is right, I'm having problems with file explorer/astro programs registering the mp3 file extension to fascinate muic player. As far as the other questions its not an apk file. When I get to a computer ill post the link for the zip, it came from the rom section from one of the rom builds. Oh and illogic, disk view never worked for me, any ideas? Thanks guys

Yeah tried renaming to music.apk and nothing, its not big deal to me.

I guess pushing the fascinate player APK isn't enough to associate MP3s with it. I hope later versions of Android will allow you to "Open with..." like you can in Windows.
I fixed disc view a week or so ago and, as far as I know, my ROM is the only one with it working currently. I don't mind sharing my seven herbs and spices though. Go through my thread and you'll find a .so file I uploaded, push that to /system/lib/ and make sure the Music player apk is actually named MusicPlayer.apk. If it's named Music.apk like it was the last time I checked Epic Experience, it will not work even with the lib.

Gallery Problems

The picture folders take forever to load when I open gallery, does anyone else get this? seems slow creating previews of the pictures
i have the same issue
I went back to di18 and that problem was no more

only remedy I found was back out of the gallery, and re-enter it. It loads normal speed then
I had success a while back deleting all of my thumbnails, early on, in fixing this problem. (Thumbnails are regenerated upon launching after this). Id also check that u have the latest version of the galley that we're using. Check out the development section, and most of the roms there have that version that I haven't had probs with. I don't know what you're running (dk28.. cw3 ext4..?) If so, I'm usng the version in the Truly Epic rom, and also have used Quantum rom's.
Btw, I have a TON of image files on my sd. If you have certain directories that u don't want to appear in the gallery, u can manage them with a .nomedia file. Ask if u have questions about it.

Exactly delete your android folder on the root of your sd card. It still re generate on the next boot and your gallery will be fixed.

I use a alternative picture app, "QuickPic", it's so much faster then the stock gallery app.
Thanks for the tip guys, that fixed my problem

Just rename the folder to x.nomedia?
I just put a bunch of stuff on my phone in different folders, but photosafe and videosafe need licenses to hide things so this would be a good thing to hide them from my less-tech savvy gf and allow me to actually take the security lock off lol

hehe - in response to the first part:
no - don't rename the folder to that. basically, the .nomedia is a file the GOES into a directory that you don't want the media scanner to scan.
The .nomedia file basically says, "move along! nothin to see here!".
So, a .nomedia file would have to be in EACH of the directories you don't want to show up. Keep in mind.. this won't hide them, and in regards to ur gf... a .nomedia file won't have any affect on the history that a media player might keep... so keep that in mind
To create the nomedia file, you can either find one on your sd somewhere, and copy it (pasting into desired folders)
or
open Notepad on ur computer, save the blank file as "nomedia.txt"
Copy it to your SD, in Astro, rename it to .nomedia (with no extension). and you're set.

Guide for how to hide files in Gallery without deleting them

Here the steps to hide the files in your Gallery.
Crate folder and move all the files into that folder which you want to hide. after moving files, create a new folder named as ".nomedia" inside the previously created Folder. Restart device and let it scan for media files. Thats it all done. Now files are in that folder wont appear in Gallery.
There are apps that automate this for you too - I use Gallery Excluder.

Dave

This works for the stock Gallery, but if you generally don't want the media to appear in similar apps, it's best to create a file called .nomedia rather than a folder. The reason is that the Gallery is coded to check for the existence of a folder or file called .nomedia, whereas other apps may simply check for a file.
Small point, coming from a programmer (most languages have different functions for checking if a file or folder exists).
good tip. thank you.

Guys,
Is there a easier soloution for music album art? I added a .nomedia file to the music folder (of sdcard/media/music) - great all album art pictures no longer show in the Gallery - problem is my music also 'disappeared' as it is a literal no-media to be shown! .
Is there a work around as my album art is tagged to the music files?
Does the gallery not have a tracker? Thats what im used to with maemo
Thanks for the tip
It can also be used to hide audio and video files

[Q] Which folder/mnt should you copy music to N4?

Hi,
Is anyone familiar with exactly "where" is the correct place on the phone to upload your music so that it's visible by Play Music?
I've tried using EStrong File explorer to copy & paste from my local NAS to my phone and half the time it isn't visible in the /sdcard/Music folder. Obviously I don't understand which "user" is doiing the copying to which mounted area, hence why the viibility in my Play Music app is duff./
So - under the "root" directory, where should I copy things to ?
/sdcard/Music
/mnt/sdcard/Music
/storage/sdcard0/Music
Or, ../notifications or ../ringtones?
How do you guys do it so it's "visible" to the apps on the phone?
I put in sdcard/music folder. I just create a music folder and my media player detects mp3 files or other playable files.

All those three locations are the same if I'm right. So it doesn't really matter.
This is a known issue caused by using the newest version of ES Explorer. Go read thru the comments for it on Playstore. Try a different file manager or download the previous version from the ES website. You should be able to place them in the Music folder on the root of the drive without issue.
