I have been searching via XDA and Google for a solution to this and have found none yet. Maybe one of you guys can help, because it's pissing me off.
After synching my HD2 to Outlook via the HTC utility, not only are all my contacts on the handset sorted by first name, but it forced all my Outlook contacts to also sort by first name. My original settings were to sort by 'file as', which in almost all cases is by last name, then by company.
I tried the Komodo utility but that only changed sorting on the handset. My contacts in Outlook are still FUBAR.
This is really hacking me off. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thank in advance!

I have 368 contacts in Outlook and I use the ActiveSync to synchronize those contacts with Trinity.
Well, believe it or not only the 320 contacts are copied into my device, an some of them are missing elements (phone numbers, notes etc...).
Has anyone faced this problem before?
This should be the most straight forward process, but for some reason for me it is not!
Any help would be much appreciated as at the moment I can not use the device as my primary telephone...
Thank you!
...and I am answering to myself saying that,
any contact in Outlook 2003 with a Note is not copied to the PDA.
Additionally, any contact that has a number that is categorized as Primary is copied to the device but the telephone number is not!
Please, if there is a Thread with similar content, transfer this topic there as I think that it may be of interest of other people.
I suggest you send your findings to microsoft. It looks like a bug either in Outlook or WindowsMobile.
You are right!
But if I am the only one who notices it, then I am not sure if there is something wrong with the configuration of wither my PDA or my PC.
Although, in general, these problems should not appear...
If a device can be synchronized Outlook, it synchronizes! Period.
Well, if anyone is interested, the problem that I am describing, has to do with my PC. I connected the PDA with my work's PC and Laptop, and it could synchronize contacts with Notes.
I also downloaded and installed SP2 for Office 2003 in my Home PC, but still there was a problem with the synchronization.
At the moment I can not find the reason why the two machines can not cooperate for these kind of contacts.
Any ideas by anyone?
did you try outlook self repair? Did you try Office Update?
I also have a similar problem. But I did not go into details to find exactly why some contacts are syncd and other not. Also some contacts are occasionally duplicated.

I tried both of them.
I also tried to uninstall all Office apps, and reinstall them and still didn't work.
I am so desperate that I am starting to think a complete rebuild of my PC.
I checked anywhere I knew. Outlook Options, Forums, Microsoft, Google. I do not know how to fix this...
Any help from anyone?

Hmm... Do you have Outlook Categories in use? Do you use subfolders?
Do the "non-synced contacts" have special characters e.g. a street named "Löwenstr."?
It is a very strange problem you have.
I had the same problem....
The only thing that helped me was to install a newer version of activesync...
After the Upgrade to 4.5 all was OK...
hi
anybody knows how to set in contacts to see just the contacts from the phone not mixed with sim contats
thanks
You couldfind it in the forum if you search "hide Sim", I think. But anyway you edit the Registry:
Registry
HKCU
ControlPanel
Phone
ShowSim = 0

Both from the same device.
I believe it is currently displaying the Outlook and MSN contacts.
Any way to make it ONLY show the Outlook contacts?
It's a known bug with activesync i know from old Hermes times. If you have this problem the fu..k will double the contacts each synchronizing.
Recommend new sync installation and new start-up synchro.
Yes, one list is from your Outlook contacts, and the other appears from your MSN list when you sync.
Go into the Windows Live sync options and de-select the Store WL Contacts.
I'm not sure if this will delete the doubledup contacts, but will prevent further download of MSN contacts in the future (so you might need to tidy up yoiur contacts list just once).
Cheers guys!
I will try it out tonight. Will let you know of any developments i have.!
Cheers!
Sam
Anyone know why both tick boxes are un-untickable for me?
If you delete your hotmail/live/msn ID in Windows Live options. When you recreate your ID the checkboxes shouldn't be greyed out. It seems to be a one time only choice.

i have this, but i think its phone contacts, andcontacts saved to the sim card.
as i deleted all contacts in sim card and now only have one set of numbers.

Hi!
I love my phone. One issue id that I know how to view contacts by group, but I cant figure out hpw to view contacts by organization. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Is there some how to convert the organization fields into the group field?
Thanks-
Robert
Please help! I am using the dudes roger 0.5 which kicks ass. I need to be able to sort m contacts by organization.. I have no exchange server and dont know anything about exchange. I used to use activesynch whith my old artemis.
PLease?
I dont know if I was clear,
I mean when you enter a contact, and you enter their name , number, ertc... you can also enter the name of their organization. I am not sure if this is the defauls set up since I synched my outlook contacts with gmail to get them into my phone... but the issue is I want to be able to see my contacts by the organization they belong too... It is very difficult to find people by just searching for their name as I cant remember everyones name, but I do know the company they are saved under. This seems like such an important basic figure. Am I missing something obvious?
Android 2.2 on HTC EVO
I have the same issue. I use Outlook 2007 on my desktop computer an use HTC sync to sync with my EVO. On my desktop Outlook all my contacts are filed by Company. When they came in on the EVO they are filed by contact name. What a joke for a business phone. Android calls the company field Organization. I also can't remember individual names of people at every company contact. There should be a setting to file by Name, Organization, etc.
If there is no Android setting than even an APP would solve the problem. If I can't get a solution the phones going back and I will have to try an iPhone. Had Windows mobile 6.5 with no outlook issues.
Thanks, Barry
I imported my used activesync with my google (gmail) account to sync up my contacts, calendar and email. The contacts all came through but were showing up as last name, first name. I wanted them to show up as first name, last name so I started looking around. I found the "app" contact changer mentioned on here and then grabbed it off XDA. It went through and said it changed my contacts. I found that they were all changed properly. After time though, not sure if it just when the phones dies or reboots, some of the contacts change back to last name, first again. It seems random which contacts are reverting, but all of the "facebook linked" contacts reverted plus some more random ones. I can go in and run contact changer again, or go in and manually change them but this seems to make the contact changer app useless if I have to run it all the time.
Any thoughts on what is causing this problem? From what I can tell the contacts in my Google contacts list are named properly, with the first name and last name in the proper field.
I am running T-mobile stock rom, and have not ever synced up with outlook on the PC (just using gmail via server on activesync).
Thanks for any help.
UPDATE: I just ran contact changer and then rebooted my phone (actually popped battery out) and the contacts did not revert. I then ran a sync via activesync and the contacts reverted. :-(
even though the way they are displayed is correct the system still manages them last-first, so if you create a new one after running the cab it will default to last first unless you specify differently in the drop down.this may be why they change when you sync fb.
it also helps (if you are using outlook on the pc) to have outlooks defaults changed to first-last.
Thanks for the tip. I am trying to avoid hooking up to the PC with outlook but I may end up having to. The contacts that are reverting are not new ones. Also it is not only the FB contacts that are reverting back, there are some other random ones that are doing it as well. Very strange. I am guessing it is just a normal WM quirk that I will have to find a workaround.

if you do have access to outlook on a pc, i can HIGHLY recommend it as your main method of contact/calendar backup/restore.
I've been using it as my phone backup for years, and it cuts both ways, , , pc goes down? all your outlook contacts gone? no worries! theyre on your phone! Phone goes down? no worris, theyre on the pc!. hehe.
plus with outlook it saves every single field, so your facebook links and favourite poeple is saved, (yes i know that also happens on myphone and whatever, but how often are those services down? )
Hope someone can help here.
Why does Android constantly resort my Outlook contact list? I spent hours fixing the data to sort by last name / first name, and now I see that the sort order has changed again, and what's worse, it's not even consistent. Some contacts are still Lname/Fname, others are Fname/Lname.
Also, I have found duplicate birthday and anniversary entries in my Outlook calendar (two, three, up to five entries), but the problem is that they're wrong. For example, I have my parents anniversary on two different dates with two entries for each date.
What the F is going on here? It's making me nuts, and is almost enough for me to want to go back to Windows Mobile.
Nobody else is experiencing this?
In fact, I just tried another experiment that failed. I added a phone number on my handset that synchronized to my desktop, then later added an address to the contact, but that address data did not synchronize back to the phone.
My experience thus far with Android and/or HTC synch is that it sucks for this sort of thing, and WM was much better. However I won't rule out that I'm doing something wrong. What's up?
Don't know if it is the same problem, but some German users had problems when syncing with Outlook. After a sync the display name was not correct (always firstname, lastname). So I wrote a small app that converts all contacts to "lastname, firstname".
You can have a look here (use at your own risk!):

I experienced the same issue too when i had my HD2 running Nandroid and i have to manually delete those wrong entries created by Android. However, I am not sure what caused the wrong entries, especially the birthday field. I also experienced multiple duplications of the same contact with slightly different contact names and i assumed that it could be due to my syncing with outlook exchange and desktop syncing using HTC sync. Have now gone back to Winmo.
