[Q] Live Wallpaper starting only after hitting settings - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi,
first of all, sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language
On to my problem:
I'm using RaduGs Tasty Ginger 2.0 and managed to install live wallpaper support.
I installed different wallpapers but when selecting one, they don't give a preview. When choosing one, there's only a black background on my homescreen.
When going back to wallpaper selection, choosing one and then FIRST hit settings, then just go back, i do get a preview!
When i now try to set this wallpaper as the standard one, i'm back on a black homescreen.
This happens with all ROMs i recently installed (radug, elelinux, cronos), but only with lw using opengl.
i tried for example "multipicture live wallpaper" or "Maps Live Wallpaper", they do work.
When choosing "Wave Live Wallpaper" or "Original Flurry Live Wallpaper", they don't work, only as described above.
Is there a workaround?

The Hero doesn't have 3D support so a lot of the live wallpapers you find on the market won't work on it and will result in a black homescreen. And I believe most ROMs use old OpenGL libraries.
To be honest it's not worth installing them anyway, they are very slow on the Hero, and even if they run smooth it brings the rest of the phone to a halt. Not to mention the battery drain.

I know, but the mentioned Wallpaper do work, but only after hitting settings an just press the back-button. only when applied as wallpaper, there's a black homescreen.
If i'm not completely wrong, RaduG uses v1.1 of opengl, so it's up to date, isn't it?

You're right, the g2 is too slow for some of these wallpapers, it's only to play around a bit
But i'm willing to get a htc desire or samsung galaxy s gt-i9000. i'd only wanted to know, if someone else can confirm this to figure out if it's a hero or a gingerbread and froyo thing.

2.1 .APK file links

I would like to start a thread that can be a hub for the new 2.1 .APK files that are usable on the Eris.
I have tried the current live wallpapers and will install but they are not visible.
Here is a link to the WeatherGenie from Nexus 1. http://download887.mediafire.com/iwj7jx90ftvg/xmtwizbmm3m/GenieWidget.apk
Here is the same app but transparent, you need to uninstall the regular one for it to work. http://sites.google.com/site/droidlife3/home/GenieWidget-transparent.apk?attredirects=0
Add anything to this list you know will work.
Please test before you post the .apk

Are these tested? Please only tested .apks that we know will work on the Eris. Thank You!
I tested the gallery app. It works, unless you tilt the phone horizontal, then the screen goes crazy until you tilt back vertically.
I tested the music app. It works fine.
I installed and ran the clock app, I didn't like it as much as the HTC clock app, so I uninstalled it (it seemed to work fine)
I did not try either launcher.
I believe these are the extra HTC widgets we can't directly D/L fromthe HTC widget placer thingy.

This one definitely does not work. Causes FC loop which requires some Home-button-timing to get out of.

This works, but is very slow, and breaks in landscape mode. (Not FC-breaks, but massive-distortion-breaks.

Again, FC loop. No leads on the cause, I'll fire up ADB later and try to track this down.
I posted this in the wrong spot sorry. Do not post in here but instead I will start one in the correct section. Closed.

Launcher2 works perfectly for me, on my Eris, but mine is leaked 2.1, so that might be the reason.
Most people are running the "leaked" 2.1 rom on this forum and seem to not have it working... Me included, did you do anything to get it to load? and where did you DL it from?
@Allow:
how are you testing it?
I ask because I too have installed the leaked 2.1 (as has everyone who has 2.1 on an Eris) and I get the FC loop when I click the home button and choose to use Launcher for the action.

OR maybe im completely wrong here and you may very well be that 1%.

I am also getting the looping and I am running 2.1.
Omg. People pease try reading around. Launcher2 will not load. The guy that said that is either a newbie that doesn't know what launcher2 is or just likes drama. Of course with screenshot plus video I will apologize. But I have logcats from trying to load launcher2 that looks for lib files we can't add with out root

With a total of 4 post in XDA I am going to have to say that the guy is both but then again I have been surprised before maybe hes discovered how to root the the Eris
The music app is the only one that fully works and it's not much better than the leaked 2.1 eris' music app. The clock wont do fahrenheit or bring up my location at all. This thread is a complete fail.

How to get the Desire HD/Z widget in other builds?

i was running desire hd 3.4 for the last couple of days but today i decided to switch to froyo sense 2.4.2 because the camera is working on that build.
now i would like to know if it's possible to get a updated sense on that build. there are some nice features missing. like the preview of themes, a lot of themes, background pictures and especially some nice widgets and the feature to see all htc wigets in one place.
especially i am looking for the data-connection and settings widget which comes in bar-style (setting, wifi, mobile-data, sync, bt, etc.). is it possible to get it somewhere? it was pretty convenient compared to the single button widgets i found on the market.
thx a lot!
u cant. HTC sense is complicated. u either have it or u dont. at least for now...
that's sad. does anybody have a suggestion for a bar-like-settings-widget. sorry for my english.
I know what you are talking about. There are a few out there. Try "extended controls" in the market. It's also built into CM 6.

thanks for your suggestions. i'll give those widgets a shot.

Have you tried the "Power control" widget? I do use LauncherPro, but I don't think it's specific to that.
Go to the market and search for "SwitchPro". It's awesome, and you can customise the appearance, actions, and number of buttons. Easily better than the power widget included with froyo.

What I want to know is how he got the clock/calendar to stay static on the background and not move when he swiped to the other homescreens - unless those were static images that were part of the background wallpaper. Great effect.
OK ... just a guess here, but having done some looking around, I think that is Typography Wall live wallpaper. It takes some tweaking to get it set how you want, but once you do, it just sits there on every screen. Had it on my DX, didn't like it that much. I think I like it now.
Very Nice
Thanks for showing us some of the things you can do on the xoom. Enjoyed.

honeycomb live wallpaper

hi i had searched the forums and youtube and i have not found any video of the xoom original livewallpaper, can someone take a video of the live wallpaper in action? the one that come preinstalled in the xoom?
it only comes with four installed. Maps, which lets you set up a map as your background (you can imagine that) holo spiral, equalizer simple, and spectrum..... none of these are new so I'm sure you can find them in some corner of the web.
They're the same as any other android device.. accept bigger. I'd video for you, but don't have the tools.
I'm currently using star field, and it it working awesome with no lag and no battery hit.

What would your dream ROM have in it?

What I'd like to see a dev do is take the android source and one of the kernels (ScaryKernel stable preferably) and develop a ROM from the ground up.
Call waiting does not work properly in CM7 or another AOSP based ROM I tried.
GPS has problems fixing in that ROM as well. I believe Sense based ROM users don't have this problem.
What would be really cool is having a nice 2.3.5 ROM with ScaryStable kernel, Android 2.3.5, some, not all of the tweaks from CM7, apps included that are actually useful such as antutu benchmark, kernel manager, rom manager, super user, terminal emulator, speedtest.net, wifi analyzer, gps status, fasterfix stuff like that, HTC GPS drivers, and being able to update profile, and prl and being able to get to the ##code# menus from the dialer (basically need the HTC dialer for this I'm guessing which would also fix call waiting). That would be like the ultimate ROM in my opinion.
Thoughts? And yes, I'm actually thinking about taking this on as my own project if I have to even though I can't program to save my life.
What's a matter with call waiting on ASOP? I've never noticed anything messed up or anything different.....I have predominatly have had cm7 but also ran shiftdeck for awhile and call waiting has worked fine I believe....
I have read others having problems getting gps to get a fix but have never experienced the problem myself.....I know the solution has been to flash sense get a lock n then flash asop and from what I read gps is fixed after that....

Tap manage calls in CM7, tell me what happens.
As for GPS, I found a combination of resetting the GPS and downloading GPS assistance data with GPS status, and using faster fix and setting the proper ntp server while having wireless assistance on helps for a while. I'm still investigating exactly what needs to be done for GPS to to work properly.
I can honestly say I have never had a single problem with GPS on any cyanogen build but i never shut my GPS off I don't even know why It's on maybe for the weather so maybe that info could help someone maybe get a lock right before flashing and leaving GPS on might work but AOSP is fast has no bloat and is very customizable but I am a Sense guy so:
I think a Rom I would be 100% happy with as an all time Rom for right now it would have to be a Sense 3.0 Rom because I absolutely love it, with the HDR and panorama effects added to the camera, overclocked to 1.2 Ghz with a very light theme maybe like Rosie, status bar with no clock and notification area to be semi-trans black with white font a themed HTC_IME and dialer and a custom Glock LockRing that's all

The real question is how does your GPS work with wireless assistance turned off?
And Sense 3.0 is beautiful (mainly talking about the weather themed lock screen with the shortcuts) but I hate the way Sense 2 and 3 manage contacts and it's way too facebook integrated in general which is annoying.

I wouldn't know I don't use my GPS often and I leave it on the default settings and never have a problem even if I'm not on WiFi every time I have needed it, It's been solid and it don't kill my battery at all I get great battery life

I have to disagree. I love sense bc it has Facebook integration. I like how I set my contacts to their respective profile on my touch pro 2 with wm 6.5 synced with Google and never had to worry about it again. It puts a pic to your contacts and gives u a bday entry which is nice imo.
Now my gps sucks, I have to wait 5-10 mins to get a lock outside or in the car. And sense 2.3 doesn't have kernel source so its limited to the stock kernel.
My dream Rom is MikG, with x99 kernel. I used to love that kernel on 2.2
Sent from your Mom's Jitterbug
My dream Rom would be MikG With x99 or V8 kernel, AND Firerats due to that sucker helps save a lot of space.
My "dream" ROM on the Shift would have to be full blown Sense 3.0 with it running perfectly smooth WITHOUT overclocking. I would want the kernel for sbc and UV. And I would want google + integration added along with FB and twitter.
(Guess thats why its called a dream ROM )

To start out, it would look a LOT like CM7. Same launcher, same extras. NO Sense UI.
(for the record, I know that most of this is available, it just means installing a number of extra packages)
Add in all the google
T9 predictive input for the dialer
A nicer looking messaging app that doesn't fail every time you try to send a text longer than 1 message.
A few of the nice sound options from Sense UI, including having the ringer volume automatically reduce when the phone is picked up, automatically switching to speakerphone when you set the phone face-down during a call, and double-tapping the home key to see all your launcher pages at once.

1. Gmail, Voice, Talk, Maps, Latitude (yes, I know it's bad for battery AND privacy, but it's fun and I don't plan on committing crimes, cheating on my wife, lieing to my boss or ever being worth enough money to kidnap; so I don't care if people know where I am.), Navigation, and of course, Market.
2. I haven't made any changes to the built in messaging app of any kind, but I'm also running the latest nightly. Doesn't matter too much, since I've installed GoSMSpro.
3. Yes, I'm well aware that many of those features kill the battery. That's why I like CM7, and only want a small handful of the highly useful features from Sense.
well no matter which rom i try, i always end up installing launcher 7, so to have that already integrated would be nice for the drawer, and a rom that lets you use the volume bottoms to skip tracks in your music player ,
