Ok so now that I've gotten your attention with the o' so "loud and in your face" title of this post, on to the main point. I'm REALLY dissapointed that samsung hasn't stepped up to the plate and included flash with the latest update, leaked or not, 2.1 or not. I'm tired of having to use that piece o' crap skyfire broweser that only works half the time on certain sites, and that's if I lucky. It seems to me that this phone may be destined for the veritable technological garbage dump that so many other phones have been. Samsung has yet to deliver on ANY of the promised fixes, including froyo, although maybe this leaked version of the update isn't the final one, and I'm starting to doubt if we'll EVER see froyo. Is anyone else as pissed off as me? All I know is I'm gonna boot my vibrant for a n1 if something doesn't happen soon. Sorry to any mods or users for the incoherent rant and/or cursing in the aforementioned post, I'm just venting.

They just launched the Fascinate, and now they have their phone on all carriers. Sure, it would have been great to have Froyo by now, or launch the Fascinate with Froyo, but I don't think they'd want to fragment their US Galaxy S so much. I'm sure it will come, especially now that all the phones are out. I have a feeling they are going to develop Froyo for all the Galaxy's at the same time. Whether the carriers decide to push out Froyo as soon as it's ready is another question.

I suppose ur right, and releasing froyo for all the galaxy s phones at the same time would make sense. Now I suppose the real question is, which is closer, cyanogenmod or an official froyo update from sammy?
Seriously I can understand peoples frustrations but venting on the forum isn't going to change a thing. The OTA for Froyo is speculated to be released in September and its still September isn't it? On that note it's only speculated not confirmed. People are in fact working on getting 2.2 to our phones not just Samsung, all I can say is be patient. If you don't want to be patient then shut up and get a G2 when its released if we don't have Froyo by then.

i couldn't imagine frequenting enough flash sites on my laptop/desktop to make me want flash this badly on my mobile device...
Well I kinda understand the frustration in the OP as flash support means a lot more on the web. I miss watching news clips on CNN website and shows on Hulu on the gorgeous Vibrant screen. But I have no doubt about Samsung's commitment to Galaxy S especially after reading the results of leaked firmware. Instead of losing patience and shouting in forum I would wait for Sammy to roll out a stable Froyo update on this fantastic phone and then enjoy all the goodies. I am sure nobody still has question on whether Vibrant will get Froyo or not after seeing all those videos of european version running froyo. It may be September or October, but I can wait.

It hurts so much since the phone is so powerful, but it's like Samsung doesn't want to give it the one thing it truly needs to dominate the rest of the pack. I'm tired of seeing the Nexus 1 on the top of every benchmark when we all know the hummingbirds will eat those snapdragons for breakfast.

Not to be an ass but, why don't you use the advanced version so we can see the CPU gain and not just the lagfix gain. The lagfix makes some things faster and other things slower...the original lagfix that is. I haven't used the voodoo one, so I can't comment on it. I know there is a CPU gain on yours as the most I've seen just with lagfix is in the 2200's. So I assume you have a different rom and/or OC'ing.

Not necessarily. Your custom rom is on top, but a stock Galaxy S is still below a Nexus 1 running froyo. If we want to throw mods in the game, a custom N1 or Droid 2 may beat yours because they have froyo and you don't.

1. if you're on this forum, you should know, you can use flash 10.1 on android 2.1 phones, just limited to HTC ones
2. the galaxy s line does have hacked froyo on it, just look through the forums
3. idc about this comment
anyway, we'll get froyo soon enough, look at the evidence, it's been confirmed already, maybe not for a specific one in a specific country, but hey, once one country is out, others follow quick, besides, the galaxy tab, which is basically the same hardware as the galaxy s, runs froyo, it's probably the bug fixes thats taking them a while, be patient and you'll get it
edit: forgot to add, you can use skyfire, you got a galaxy s, skyfire will not lag at all, its a browser that has full flash capabilities, and actually the video button thing is better than having youtube playing a video straight out, at least you can control it that way, but yea, skyfire, look in tha market
Hi folks,
I have a month left on my contract and looking at the streak or the DHD and it would be great if you guys who have the streak can leave your thoughts on why you chose it and what you like about it. The 'issue' I have at the moment is the way of charging it, not by USB. Ok its a small issue but I tend to have a charger connection at work and home just in case so would need to purchase another one (more expense lol)
The other thing is development as there only seems to be the one custom rom for it (please tell me if I am wrong).
So, benefits, nice massive screen is always good (coming from a Hero) and from what I have read its quite nippy too (has it the newer snapdragon or the older one?)
It either this or the DHD
Do a search mate there are lots of threads on people asking the same question and as far as development only Steve is doing it right now and he does a dam good job, one of the problems with development is Dell have not released the Source code until they do Steve can only do so much but he has done a lot better than dell.

Yeh I did a search but nowt. So, Dell are not releasing the source code? I thought this was against Googles rules?
I like HTC because theyre pretty good with updates and support and what not. What I don't like about their products is that theyre all nearly identical. As soon as they release a "ground breaking" product, they release another one that slightly tops it a month later.
I like the streak because theres no hardware (the screen) out there like it. Pair that with front cam, snapdragon, nice battery, and you have specs that rival the top of the game. Although the 1.6 os (for AT&T) is a joke, and theres only streakdroid as a custom rom, I find the streak community very supportive.
Streak is the best! Its only gonna get better as development increases. Get one, you should be able to return it within a month if you don't like it. Once you get used to the size, you can't go back. I never use my netbook anymore...
How many times in a day do you streak owners hear "Wow! Is that your phone!? Can i see it?"
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Lemme summerize what ppl have been sayiing and how I feel about the streak. Amazing phone, obivously biggest advantage is the big screen, and trust me when I tell u this, when you go soooo big u won't be able to go back to 3.7 inches.
The biggest problem with the phone, the camera. If you are a camera person, do not get this phone. this is not to say the camera is crap, but its pretty bad for 5mp.
People have been telling me that they drop their phone and it wasn't a high drop and the screen broke, I drop my phone really hard on the bare ground from 4 feet high and nothing happened (alittle scartch on the back, nothing on the screen) regardless of what happens I have also heard dell will replace it without a big hassel.
I used an iPhone before this phone, and I like this phone better. I have many requests to trade phones from random strangers on the street when they see me using the phone, iPhone 4 users too. So if for some reason you don't like the phone I am sure it wont be hard to trade it up.

Get one man. I went from the iPhone 3g,S,4, HD2, Desire, EVO, and now this. I'm loving this bad boy. It puts the web and everything else in motion man. This screen is the biz. Couldn't wait so using BestBuy/ att locked version until my Dell unlocked comes in. My 30 days will be up on Feb 6 but phone supposed to be here by the 3rd! If not, will be returning this armed then buying it again to start a new 30 days. So wrong, but am I gonna do? Use my wifes Craptivate or the 3.5 iPhone sitting in my drawer? Nope. Can't wait for some Froyo goodness. I digressed some.

Thanks for the replies folks, I am hearing good things from both sides (my other option is the DHD) so if my provider will offer a test run then I will give both of them a whirl and judge that way. I am loving the screen size though. Its ideal. Just worried about development for it. Seems only one guy on the case?
Yeah but he's amazing we already have better that stock version of 2.2 running no problems. When I had stock my quadrant score was 800s now its 1500s and no overclocking.
So even its only one guy he is doing better work than 20 guys.

Cheers dude, I'm in England though
As other have said on here the Streak IMHO is probably the best device out there.
DJ_Steve may be the only person cooking a ROM for this thing but if he quit tomorrow i know that the 1.6.1 ROM that i'm running will be better than anything Dell ever puts out for this phone.
That being said if i had to choose another device i would probably got for the HTC Infuse on AT&T, which is the Desire HD for you. Same device, just different name.
Although, i'm biased, go with a Streak. You won't be sorry!

I love the Streak. It is insane how great it is and how much I love showing it off.
The only thing in the pipeline now that I would consider instead of the Streak would be the new Motorola ATRIX. A seriously high-end dual-core processor phone would be a step up, I think. But other than that, there isn't much out there to get excited about.

Can you be more specific on what is slow? Yes, I do feel it was rushed with missing features and stuff but I do not think it is slow. The only slowness I have noticed is when on XDA in the browser and typing a response. Other forums/sites seem to work fine. Not sure if you are talking about the browser, some sites, all sites, all apps, etc.
Yeah I feel they shouldn't have removed the beta sign off the Operating System yet. I've had little crashes in the browser and in the camera here and there. Since we are all Android geeks we are accustomed to it. But newcomers that pay $800 for a device would get very frustrated. Just gotta wait for those OTA's.
The one I played with at Best Buy the other day seemed laggy on the home screens, but when I got into an app, everything was so fast and smooth.
I have to give Google the benefit of the doubt here. At this point, I see the XOOM primarily as a platform for developers to get their apps tuned for tablets before the Honeycomb Tablet rush begins. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of Honeycomb ready apps show up over the next few weeks. Also, I would hope Google has an update ready at least some time in March in anticipation of those other tablets that will launch later next month and in April. Having the XOOM out is a perfect way for Google to find bugs that are present in the system. They can do all the internal tests they want, but someone in the real world is always going to find something they missed. Granted, I'm sure they know about the lag and choppiness in the browser, but considering the XOOM was actually being manufactured before the Super Bowl, this version of Honeycomb is at least that old. I hope they're well on their way to an update by now.
Just give it some time.
[edit]
Case in point.
Yea it seems just laggy and choppy. Like the app draw and stuff. Its just annoying lol. Hopefully the updte fixes it

I'll have to agree with almost everyone here about the state of the software.
Though I don't have a Xoom as of yet (its on order), I have had the chance to spend a lot of time with one at work. The biggest gripe I have with it is the fact that it's packed to the brim with amazing technology yet does not perform like it is. I have been able to do what I want with it with no difficulty, but the sad thing to me is I don't feel like I'm holding a Tegra 2 powered device. It's like having a V8 engine in a sports car but only using 4 cylinders, it gets you where you want to go, but its not as fun.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the thing, and I am replacing my iPad with it. We just have to be patient, and confident that Google will come through. Besides, they always do.
it is choppy and laggy and still needs a lot of work. When I compare it to my inspire it is very clear that it needs work. I still love it and wouldn't trade it for anything.
It is a more of question of when rather than if it will be updated. They made the right choice getting this thing to market, you have it in hand and it's real. It might be buggy, but it has it's moments of being impressive.
Dont worry guys. Wait till we can deodex, have custom recovery from Koush, and start work on kernel development. Then we will see what this baby can really do.

Indeed! This + Honeycomb update = WIN!
On a related note, SetCPU has successfully overclocked the Tegra2 to 1.2Ghz, reaching 40 MFLOPS In Linpack...and that's only ONE of the cores!
What's some cool stuff y'all have done with it so far??

So I'm a huge android nerd, and I really want a tablet. The problem I'm having is which one do I get. Here are some pros and cons I have for the ones that have been announced.
Xoom - While Motorola has impressed me with their quality and support for android phones, I feel, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the Xoom was released too early because Motorola was rushing to be the first. It has a lot of bugs and I'm not sure if it's worth taking the risk that they will support the device, or if I should wait for a second generation.
The LG slate - The specs are comparable to the Xoom and hopefully the extra time they are taking to release means there will be less bugs. I don't know much about LG as fast as android is concerned, but I am excited about the G2X phone coming out.
The Samsung Galaxy tab - I have a galaxy s phone, so that should tell you I have little faith in their ability to support their devices. I don't fault them for the original tab because they were the first and it was before dual core became the thing and before hummingbird was released. It sucks they can't or won't update the original tab, but I wouldn't let that stop me from buying this one if it is really good. Again, my only issue with Samsung is that they continuously try to convince me they will support their devices and continuously let me down. Great displays, though.
HTC Scribe - Looks awesome, but single core? That wouldn't bother me much, but if they start releasing games and apps specific for dual core devices then anyone with that device is screwed.
Sho what do you think? Any input from Xoom users or anyone in general is appreciated.
Check out the Viewsonic Gtablet. Awesome specs, pretty much "unbrickable", easily customizable (perfect for android nerd), and best of all it's about 1/3 the price of the xoom, et al.
I have the xoom, iPad, and the Gtablet, and while my go to tablet is the xoom, I still can't believe how the Gtablet performs, and fun to play with (screen is not best though).
I think that virtually everything that's "unfinished" about the Xoom is really about what's unfinished in Honeycomb. So, no other vendor is going to be ahead of Motorola in this regard. In fact, they're likely to be BEHIND the Xoom to the extent that they have customized UI's and/or software that they're adding to their devices.
The only exception to this is the 4G upgrade, but I don't know of any other tablet except the HTC on Sprint's that guaranteed so far of getting 4G at all. So, that shouldn't be counted against the Xoom.
Note that I'm not trying to defend the Xoom here, but rather to point out that other devices are likely to be just as "unfinished" as the Xoom until Google releases the first big Honeycomb update. For myself, I'm going to take a good hard look at the Asus, simply because the idea of having a keyboard dock with another 24Wh battery is really attractive to me.

You really are barking up the wrong tree here. While the iPad 2 is great for my grandma and other non tech savvy people this is XDA DEVELOPERS and the iPad goes against everything we do here. Even with jailbreaking you will never get the full customization that you get with Android, never. Steve jobs thinks he knows best for his followers and always will. I even went and checked one out because it is more compatable with my colleges online learning center but I took one look at that horrid UI and just couldn't do it. Not to mention honeycomb is an actual tablet operating system, ios is the same OS as the iPhone just with some tablet friendly apps. Great for my gf and my mom but definitely not for someone like me who likes to tinker.

Hey guys, so tomorrow is my birthday and my grandparents said they'd be willing to buy me a tablet. Thing is, I don't know which tablet I want. I'm highly considering the Galaxy Tab 10.1 since I love Touchwiz UX, and looking at the reviews makes me even more confident. However, I'm not sure if I should wait a big longer for tablets to get quad-core, and if that would affect gaming for me in the near future. (Like for example, newer 3D games would be hard to run since I don't have quad-core).
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I still think the ASUS Transformer is tops with the dock. AND they have UX ported.
However the Galaxy Tab(s) are going to get good development. But hell so does the Transformer.
I would say wait for Kal-El. But they keep pushing it back.
Well, I'm actually not planning on rooting it only because its a gift and I have my phone to mess around with so I don't really care for that. I know what you mean though about kal-el. I want to wait for it, but its not certain when it will come out or anything and its hard to keep up with the latest and greatest. Thanks though, I'm curious to hear others suggestions

I highly recommend ipad. As of right now none other tablet works like ipad. I bought touchpad during fire sale but I sold it recently because it didn't do better than my phone or laptop.
This means that my touchpad wasn't worth while to bring to work, as it lacked note taking ability nor presenting ability. I bet if u buy galaxy for 500$, you will spend most of time trying to tinker it to do what you intended to but ultimately gets frustrated and sell it.
Also most of the productivity apps are fine tuned for ipad.
However if you are going to use tablet for media consumption, get kindle fire. It has vast library of amazon goodness. But it lacks mic and ffc which makes skype unusable.

If you don't plan on rooting I'd say the Galaxy Tab 10.1, I've messed around with it and it feels a lot more natural to use and the screen is absolutely gorgeous. But that's me, I want to have the tablet experience and after comparing and contrasting the Galaxy Tab is something I'm looking at. I was trying to get a TouchPad before people panicked but I got screwed haha.

Well, the galaxy tab was good at updating to 3.2 pretty quickly. And since it's their only big tablet (other than the different sizes), it's going to get updated more frequently than the epic most likely (especially since I'm getting the wifi version, so no worries about getting the OTA from Sprint). As much as I want to wait for kal-el, I think I'm just gonna go with the galaxy tab 10.1. Kal-el is keep getting pushed back, and for all I know it won't come out for another 4-5 months. Sure I may miss out on some games, but technology moves fast these days. I guess you gotta find a point and stick with it for a while.

I know what you mean. I've definitely considered the iPad. It's great for gaming, productivity, almost everything. Jailbreaking is harmless and I never have to worry about battery life. But the beauty of Android that I love that it's constantly growing. Not just in rom development, but in the marketplace and system as a whole. I feel like everyday I can wake up and see a new app for Android or a new leak of the latest build. Besides, I love the customizability and Touchwiz UX. And I think I'll be satisfied with it. I have my phone for hacking and everything, so I don't think I'll get too many urges to go and break my tablet.

He's not going to root it, as it's a gift.
If you're going for space try the Archos 501586 7o. 250GB HDD!
Lack of dual core and honeycomb being the drawbacks

Dang!! But eh, not worth it.
Since it's wifi-only, I'm gonna have music only streamed so no space there. Other than that, it's just apps and movies and movies I can delete if necessary.
Go iPad. You wont regret it. Especially if you already use iTunes.

Nah, I think I've made up my mind. I mean, I know what you're saying. If I were to get an iPad, there would be nothing wrong with it and I'd have no complaints. But on that same note, I would also end out regretting not buying the galaxy tab 10.1 since I didn't give it a chance. I mean, idk. I want a galaxy tab 10.1, but others say iPad. What's bad about the tab 10.1?
I've heard nothing but good things from both really.
Well, now I'm just debating and my head's hurting a lot lol. I love Android and Touchwiz UX, but the iPad also offers well-known battery life, a variety of apps, and constant updates.
Ugh, my head has never hurt so much lol. I can't decide
