Need to switch from voice & edge to 3G data only!. Tab has everything installed (modem switcher, swich icon on desktop) just want to know how to do that.
Thanks,
Are you having trouble using the modem switcher? I will help you get it done.
HI RC,
Yes i already have modem switcher but don't know how to change to 3G mode.
You run the script using Gscript by tapping the Gscript shortcut you made on the desktop, and that flashes a 3g modem, and reboots your tab. When you are restarted, check your wireless settings.
Got it RC!!!

Does anyone know of a way to switch between 2g and 3g preferably with a program like tasker in order to save battery. I know I could manually go under settings/wireless and network/mobile networks and check or uncheck the use 2g only was looking at least for an easier way like a widget or in a perfect works a way to do this via application. Aka run gps or browser and go to 3g and go back to edge when not in the speed critical apps.
I have also posted in the tasker forum in hopes this can be implemented.
That's a really good idea. I hope someone finds a solution.
The power widget on cm6 offers this. I imagine it would be easy to push.
unfortunatley there is no widget or program that can do that for you because of the way Android works. I use a widget called 2g-3g OnOff which is a shortcut that gets you to the 2g-3g screen. It skips a couple of steps but thats the best out right now.
I've been trying to get a juicy theme going on but I'm having real trouble finding a switch to allow direct access to allow me to switch mobile data on and off.
SwitchPro doesn't allow me to do it, both "Data Connection" and "2g 3g" only switch it off for a few seconds and then it pops back up. If I then go into settings, Wireless, Mobile network shows as being ticked, yet says "Connection failed" - It is of course connected and functional.
Extended Controls 2g/3g and Data Network do exactly the same.
There is, of course, the native Sense UI widget...so how hard can it be if you don't want to use Sense?
Is there a widget out there that will allow me to directly switch Mobile Network (data) on and off from the homescreen?
Currently on latest Mocado R8 custom bake.
i had that problem before as well..what i did is remove the defualt apn and add them back manually..and the problem solve..u can try on this method..

you can change switch pro's settings to make it do the same thing as APNDroid too.

Could you give me a quick step-by-step?
Will try apnDroid too, thanks guys.
EDIT - apndroid simply disables it for a few seconds, it then reconnects.
widget didnt do anything.
I need one because you have to press and hold the power button and it seems a bit rough on it and we all know that these little buttons always go bad so a widget would be great for relieving the burdon on the power button.
any other suggestions, for a rooted evo?
Upgraded to 2.1 and first impressions are rubbish!
Why get rid of the enable/disable Data from the dragdown bar. How do I do this on 2.1?
Like this.
Go into settings > Wireless & network > Mobile Networks > Data Traffic.
After selecting / de-selecting that, the option will then appear in the drag-down bar.
The same way you'd do it on 1.6.
But that's not disabling 3G, that's just stopping apps from using your credit. To truly disable 3G, you'd have to change network mode to something like GSM, or 2G (I don't get that here in Australia, but I think it might be an option in other countries, I'm just guessing).
And... You'll learn to love 2.1 if you downgrade to 1.6 again, and find that your phone is performing horribly.
or just install curvefish apn switch
Or add the data widget to your home seen........

I use "3G widget" : it works realy good.
You can start / stop 3G manualy or let it turn it automatically on / off when you light up / off the screen.
I don't know why but it put 2 icons in the apps... useless for a widget to even have one when there are no properties to change.
Hi guys...
I have been using dataswitch previously on my Captivate and Optimus 2x.
However it doesn't seem to be working at all on the sgs2
Any other data enabler/widget/ apn switch that works without problems?
I've tried "data enabler widget" and it seems to work half the time, while killing off my data abruptly often.
Any advice?
If want to toggle mobile data, Tasker works. Also, the Cognition ROM has a mobile data toggle on the status bar.

I actually haven't rooted my device. Don't see the need for root yet.
Seems fine working with stock unrooted.
I am using APN onnoff

What we need is a 3 position widget:
- off
- auto
- 2g only
Data connection on/off is only 50% of the job. Why have a separate toggle for 3G when it can be integrated.
Similar to the stock brightness widget button:
- 0%
- 50%
- 100%
- Auto
it seems like widgetsoid offers what you are looking for, but unfortunately in 3 seperate buttons:
Data - Enable/disable Data (2 way to do this + 1 way for root).
2G/3G - Sortcut to mobile network settings.
4G - Enable/disable 4G (WIMAX).
i havent tested it, but maybe you want to look at it.
Switchpro widget.
But holding the Power Button already comes with an option to turn the Data Off
I'm using data enabler widget from farproc now.
Seems to be ok. but it's kinda buggy at times.
Had to post here due to I have not posted enough to put it in Developer area.
VS98011A - Rooted and using Portable Wifi hotspot from Core
Instructions from this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338&highlight=wifi
I followed the instructions in the Developer topic to back-up and replace the hotspot files,,, but,,, I accidentally started the Portable wifi app before I rebooted. Used root browser and files renamed/copied fine.
I rebooted, uninstalled portable wifi,,recopied the modded file and set permissions,, rebooted again and re-installed portable wifi and then started wifi app,,,,,,,, it then popped up the screen to set up wifi hotspot,,, done that and app went back to home screen.
When I start wifi app, screen will give a quick flash(too fast to see what it is),, stay on home screen with this this brief message "Turn on Portable Wifi Hotspot", then message disappears. I get no icon in notification bar that shows that app is running. It isn't running since other devices do not detect it.
I re-installed original files and started over and but still didn't work.
Questions/Issue
1. Do I need a different wifi app
2. Preveiously on my S4 when I ran this wifi app I would see that app was starting,,, see the warning screen, press home screen button to remove warning and get the icon in notification bar that app was running and it ran fine.
3. Is there a setting/checkbox that needs to be changed?
4. Do you leave out the odex file like instructions say?
5. Do the successful users of this method have the icon in notification bar that shows it is running?
Edit:
Do I need a separate app?
or am I supposed to be using the option - Settings/Mobile Hotspot --that checkbox?
sorry for length but newbie and frustrated............ thanks in advance for any help/suggestions
