Slow down. You will end up truly bricking in haste. Please read the wiki on how to manually root, follow everything in there. Its simple. . . .
I'm having the same problem with my dads phone, though mine turned out flawless. All I did was install visionary r12, temp root, then perm root. When It booted it stayed at the HTC splash screen.

No, It won't.
paul o brian told me to just reflash stock
I've been looking for a stock G2 rom, let me know if you find one. Don't do anything else before actually reading a lot. Your phone isn't bricked but if you make a couple more wrong steps you might just get it there.

any more suggestions..... ugh im so mad this happened.......
Worst thing you can do is panic and mess it up even more.
There was a topic here guiding how to return to stock for people that modified system folder by removing the google goggles. That should work.

Try to flash stock back, and see if it works again.
it doesnt really sounds like brick..
I've gone from the desire z rom back to stock which removed by root flashing the rom below. I can't remember where I got the rom from.
rename to this PC10IMG

Are you guys serious?!? Cool
I used to have a G1 and I bricked it .. got stuck in the 'G1' logo...
I'm not yet ready to perma-root my G2 ... I'm waiting for the 1 click Perma Root.. is there such thing??
yes, I'm a chicken..
Try to stay away from one click apps.. they might be the easiest way out, but the most risky as well. Take your time to learn how to use ADB and do everything manually. Use the Rage Against the Cage method to obtain S-OFF and Perm Root..
Updated with tmo ota. No dice. I'm still stuck at HTC screen o death.

[Q] Which is the easiest way to perm root my g2???

Could someone tell me which is the easiest way to do it and how....also i want to know how install cm after i root my g2 ..... I'm new help me please
I'd say the easiest way to do it is to follow the video guide by blackprince. As for CM I haven't done it myself yet cause I'm waiting for the stable release.

visionary tool by paul.
two clicks via an app and thats it.
Don't know much about the permaroot from visionary, but I did the original method with adb and visionary. Honestly, you only need to type like 3 lines, so any method would be easy imo. have fun!

Yeah this was the way I did it. It worked on the very first try. Since you're new you should learn to use adb. Search the forum or google adb to learn.

Rooting the G2? A little help kinda confused with things.

Hey guys ill be joining this side of the forums now on monday and I'm really excited. Just I'm kinda confused about a few things and I was wondering if anyone could help enlighten a few things for me.
I know what Root is, S-off, Cid yada yada and I'm not new to rooting at all. I have adb and etc and I kinda want to do this on ubuntu because my vista is kind of janky at times.
Now apparently there is Temporary Root and Permanent Root and of course I want Permanent root, s-off, etc.
1.Now from what I read there has been apparently an update that updated the G2 to 1.22 or something like that? I read its rootable apparently but you need a windows application called gfree or something? Is this possible to do using just ubuntu?
2. Now to obtain root, s-off etc do I have to obtain temporary root first, then permanent root? Its kinda confusing coming in a noob to this device and trying to figure this all out. And do the methods vary with which firmwire your phone comes with? I'm assuming mines will come with the newest OTA since I'm receiving it Monday.
3. Also from what I'm seeing apparently having S-off and root and what not matters on what rom your running also? I don't want to flash a rom then end up loosing root or something. And Noo I DO NOT want to stay stock once I obtain root. I'm kind of a flashoholic.
Thanks to anyone willing to help I really appreciate it.

Shouldn't yall warn him about using VISIONary first? SOMETIMES, no NOT all the time but SOMETIMES people get stuck in a boot loop from using the VISIONary method. I would not recommended it, if you have know how to use ADB, use it. I'm pretty sure that they have ADB for Linux because they do have the Android SDK on Linux(at least I think they do). All you need to do in order to root with the safer/recommended way is ADB. All you have to do is ADB Push some files to your phone then run them on your phone's Terminal Emulator App, its pretty simple. Though I have not personally rooted a G2 yet(I get mine tomorrow) but I have spent at least a week learning about how to root the G2.
Check out the wiki, explains how to root using rage+gfree.

I followed these instructions and rooted my phone fairly easily.

First of all follow the link I gave him, did you bother to do that, there was a warning, second of all I've helped a lot of people root following the videos and have had zero bricks as long as they do everything I posted in the link, third I rooted this way with zero problems, when people brick their phones its not visionary that bricks phones it people that think they know how to properly use visionary when they don't that bricks phones, its not just pressing the " attempt perm root" button to root your phone, you have to press certain settings in order to use it right.

Alright and how would one fix a boot loop caused by Rage and GFree? I have searched before but I never found anything on it.
EDIT: And if you could, please show me some links with people stuck in a boot loop caused by Rage and GFree, I would like to read it and learn from their mistakes so that I don't do them.

hey david279, which radio(bandbase) did you have on your new G2 when you rooted with GFree?
Hmm just to make shure. I obtain root first, then use that gfree app on my rooted vision to get sim unlock, s-off etc?
Never mind just read it. This is actually really simple. *facepalm* sorry guys for the thread space ill get my topic removed.
I had the 26.03.02.26. I updated it to the newest one in the radio thread in the dev forum. I gotta use to those long radio version numbers.

Thanks, just confirming that 26.03.02.26 was still rootable with the wiki root instructions, there seems to be some confusion about if you can still root the 26.03.02.26 radio with the wiki, and you just confirmed that you still can.
Thanks Again, and happy flashing.
Rooting this phone reminded me of when I had a hero. That simple. I got a evo too and that was something to root when it first was released.

Exactly the info I was looking for I will be rooting later today.

is this a legit way to root and unroot?

youtube(dot)com/watch?v=hFOi6fYbnu0&feature=related
(second post and apparently i cant post outside links lol go figure).
first time rooter here, and don't want to brick my phone and need an easy way to unroot if needed. so will this really work for a perm-root and then unroot (want an unroot if i need to exchange my phone)?
p.s. want to port gingerbread on my phone (so it runs faster).
I am not a mod nor do i claim to be one
but you've already asked the same question in a different thread and it's already been answered there.

Visionary will only Temp root the phone. It will not turn s=off which HAS to be done for anyone to flash anything (or remove anything) and make it stick.

Gingrerbread & Rooting

Hello everybody! I'm new to the forums. I also got a really big question to ask. Well I usually root my phone with Visionary using a TempRoot. Then I updaed my Evo Shift via OTA, or going to the HTC Software update thing and now I can't really root my phone I guess. Is there a solution to root my phone even though I have Gingerbread? If not right now, maybe soon? I really want to use the tethering app to tether to my PS3. PLEASE HELP!!!!
As of now no there is not. And it might take a while before there is one. Idk if your phone already came with the ota update, but if it didn't you could have waited cuz the same day the ota went live there was a rooted version here already.
Just about 2 hrs later it was rooted.Pretty much a fundemental, if htc or sprint push out an ota update it will unroot your phone.

You can use the sprint RUU to downgrade to froyo and then root it, worked for me, I'm not on my computer so I can't link it but it shouldn't be that hard to find. And instead of temp rooting it there's a nice gui in the dev section that will perm root it pretty easily then u can flash the rooted 2.3 update through CWM

You will need a computer but if you remember setting up your gingerbread update it asks if you want to back up your device on google..... Use ruu to go back root and flash a rom like cm7 and you can restore your device or you can use titanium backup to... Well... Back up and restore your apps. Also google as you know backs up your contacts. So you should be set.... Anyone else let me know if there is something i missed.

The RUU can be found in the Evo Shift wiki by going to the following URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Speedy
Luckily the RUU pretty much walks you through the process itself. You'll need the HTC sync drivers if I remember correctly in order for it to find your phone. You should be all good. Good luck, dood
