So I saw on another site a review where some dev got a color Nook running Android 3.0.
Seemed pretty responsive. Everything seemed to work and I am pretty sure the Nook does not have a multi-touch screen???
So if they were able to get 3.0 on a Nook then our device should be possible. Seems like you need 4 gb space to run 3.0 and since our device has just 4 gb internal storage it should work as long as apps are saved to an external sd card!!
Makes me have hope!!
Rob
The Nook Color has multi-touch.
I obviously did not know that. So it has capacitive multi touch and what is the retail?
Maybe I should return my elocity a7 and get a nook until I can afford to upgrade. 300 is a lot of money for me and a I really can't afford it and I thought this would last and if it was the a7x or a10 I would be very happy but I cant afford the extra hundred. The Heawie S7 is the only other device I was thinking and an Archos 70. I just think the elocity is such a great tab except for the muti touch and the screen looks great so compared to the Archos this has better specs.
I was just hopeful because Ithought the nook was not so sophisticated.
The Nook looks like a nice gadget too, hi res screen as well. What it doesn't have is a dual core Tegra 2, nor does it have HDMI out. It is only $250 though...
Yeah, it is awesome. I created a Honeycomb SD card for my wife's Nook Color. It looks amazing. I can't wait for it on my A7. By the way, the Nook absolutely DOES have a multi-touch screen. I downloaded some NES and Super NES emulators. You can't play them on the Elocity A7 because of the lack of multi-touch, but I was surprised to discover that the Nook Color works great. (almost iPad-like)...almost. Now if they would just come out with a Nvidia Tegra 2-based Nook Color 2 that would be awesome, I would ditch the A7 for sure.
If you check here you can play all the emulators on Elocity A7 perfectly!

Just need a controller and the Mod found on that link.
They say it plays them great too.
I plan to install this after I buy a controller.
Seems like the nook is one heck of device and a decent price point too.
If there are work arounds for the touch screen then the elocity is worth keeping for sure and this is what I have been hoping but I am no programmer and have to relie on the community to make things work when it should be Elocity doing this research for us.
Now do I take back the a7 and buy a nook color just so I can run honeycomb and play multi touch games or do i keep my speedy a7?
What would you do?
I have a couple weeks to decide. I am leaning on keeping my a7 and just upgrading in a year and watch everyone else running 3.0 while i drool and wish in the mean time.
R
Perhaps this will help you decide. Not sure when this was added but from the FAQ at elocitynow.com:
Q: Can the A7 be upgraded to Honeycomb 3.0?
Due to hardware issues, it is not expected that the operating system of the A7 can be upgraded to Honeycomb.
gingerbread?
Since it seems 3.0 is out of the question what about gingerbread? I would be happy with that. Then at least we would have the most updated system up to 3.0.
The other question is can the touchscreen be upgraded? Could we simply install a touchscreen with multi touch w same dimensions? Then upgrade to hc?
I will have to try the nook out and see. I really can't fork out another hundred for a newer device.
Kind of upset now. Still i have to remind myself that this unit does everything I want right now and it is probsbly wiser to save my money and wait for better devices in a year and hope yhe community willhelp when elocity wouldn't.
I think Elociy should do something for those thier first device. I have a feeling right now they are focusing on new products and leaving us behind. Does not make me a happy customer.
You can play alot of the Emulator games with a Xbox 360 Controller. I find that alot better then having to hold the tablet while i play. Just throwin that out there.
I do not have an xbox but would like to know more about what you are talking about. Is it a controller to play android games or is it xbox games played on the a7?
Could you tell me more, I am very interested in this. Thnks robert
Its an Xbox controller to play Emulators on EloA7.

I bought a g tablet. I feel close to it given I put in more than 30 hours going through different beta versions of alternate roms trying to get things the way they should be since out of the box it was a piece of crap. Being in canada I had driven to nearest Sears in US to Purchase it. Before the screen calibration fix I had essentially given up the inability to type properly and the horrible viewing angles and Sd card woes had me looking elsewhere.
Having tried the more expensive Galaxy Tab and finding it laggy and flash video unviewble, I decided I needed a Tegra based device. I also felt for my needs 7 inches might be better as I find typing in landscape mode hard with a 10 incher(hmm weird genital reference there LOL). I also feel that for my needs (book reading, surfing video watching, the odd game, and quick reference use) that the smaller form fact might be better given it is lighter and more portable (can fit in coat pocket....)
Heard about the ELocity and saw it available for 100$ less than what ipaid for g tab. so ordered it to my Brother's in Florida as will be there next week. It is already there waiting for me.
Of course since ordering it not having given the g tab back yet I have it working the way I want minus the screen viewing angles which I hate as I cant type on it when lounging unless holding it awkwardly in landscape mode using my thumbs.
Seems the Elocity has much better screen in terms of viewing angles. While lower res, the DPI is in fact the same and conforms to the Android OS max resolution of 800x480 so I suspect most apps will look correct on it. It also appears to come rooted out of the box. The UI layer on it is fast and responsive and flash is there to start. So for those considering a g tablet and don't want to muck around it works much better out of the box.
Seems it is not perfect yet and suffers many of the same issues the G tablet did:
Like the gtablet there is no official android market
Wifi for some seems to not wake up with the device from sleep
Angry birds won't run
All of the above from what I have read seem to be related to drivers and tegra 2 not having the best or newest ones out of the box.
Elocity says a fix is coming on december 24th (wonder if this is similar to what was done by Roebeet et al. with TNT light and Vega N with the performance upgrades form experimental diver pack)
Multitouch which is supposed to be 1+1 (which I believe is what the gtab is) doesn't seem to be enabled properly and is only emulated in software, and as of yet, not very well.
Seems from some things discovered on a different thread that this might be a 2 point multitouch after all.
For some reason there is no Elocity forum yet which I think could impede people coming on and helping development on it (Notion Ink Adam has a forum though there is no device in the wild for another month at least). I suspect given these are both Tegra 2 devices that there might be some parallel things to help.

gtablet Adobe Flash update
Greetings, this may be something and may be nothing.
Just FYI –
I talked to Mike at Viewsonic support on 20101220 3:34p PST.
He advises that Staples had an in store warranty conflict and no manufacturing defect exists with the gtablet. The update scheduled for 20101219 is posted and done so in such a way that some folks see it auto-download with WIFI and some will not for approx 24 to 48 hours.
Mike also advises that the Adobe Flash update IS NOT part of the latest update however he says it is still in the works and will be updated soon.
I am still contemplating whether to return mine or not. I have had it for 27 days and it has been absolutely fabulous and beyond my expectations less the FLASH player.
I need INPUT INPUT INPUT.
Thanks - feel free to email me –

Can't wait
I rooted my wife's HTC Desire since it took forever for Froyo. My phone is a WinMo 6.1 HTC Touch Pro. Love it, but Android is much more user friendly.
I am anti-"any product that starts with lower case i" and I'm looking for a good tab. If the patch comes out on the 24th as promised, I'm ready to pull the trigger.
The price is just right IMHO for this tab. However, depending how dev on this tab progresses after the new update, I may wait to see what's coming at CES.
Unfortunately for my wallet, I'm an instant gratification kind of guy. I can't build my $1600 gaming rig just yet, but this just might tide me over. I'm so tired of my netbook for menial tasks. Video playback sucks.
So... who else is stoked about the A7?
Post Firmware Update
Just ordered my from J&R Music. They had it for 299.99. Once I saw the performance increase with the new update, as well as some tweaks from our freinds at XDA, it was a done deal.
Ordered an 16 Micro SD with it, and I couldn't be more excited. I just sold my netbook, and this will its replacement. The netbook was great for light surfing, Skype, and email. It chugged at everthing else. Intel's GMA graphics on netbooks just suck! Here comes nVidia!
elocity
I just ordered from shopnbc. I used the flexpay option as this option is more pocket friendly for me at the moment. I'm returning my nook color because tomorrow marks the 14th day and won't be returnable after 15 days. The video presentation on that site played angry birds, video and flash on a website without issues. I can't wait till it gets here!

I took a hit for the team... I modded my eLocity to the newest modware; eLocityMod 1.4.1. Now all my downloaded games, and apps work PERFECT. I now have the Google Market as well as the Amazon AppStore. Angry Birds RIO works like a dream ! The only problem I am having with the new Mod is that I can not hot swap USB drives. I got to boot up the device with the USB thumb drive already inserted so that the eLocity will recognize it.
The reason I got this tablet was to play dungeon defenders but I can't play it because this isn't multi touch, will that Xbox Tom change that or will someone make multi touch work on this tablet or should I just sell this to buy the new elocity a10 tablet?
Does no one read existing threads before making new ones?
The screen on the current model A7 is not a multi touch screen. This is a hardware limitation, not a software limitation.
So I guess go ahead and sell it. If the price is fair I'll take it off your hands.
Well would that guy make a mod to make dungeon defenders work with the xbox remote?

Wouldn't be surprised if it already works with it.
Hm...well i have his rom right now, i guess i just need to buy a wired xbox remote or that pc xbox reciver
I heard it was only a software glitch that needed to be worked out. Much like the original droid. It didnt have multi-touch until they released an update.
I site my source on this statement here.

The controller does not support true multi touch. It is not a software "glitch".
the very limited pinch to zoom we have is a weak example of the gestures support of the controller, period.
This has been confirmed by the manufacturer and backed up by the datasheet on the contoller itself.
Let's build a car with a Mustang 5.0 supercharged engine but with 3 wheels, w00t !
Seems Stream rushed this to market and tried to offer the most value with parts available at the time. They gambled the screen would not be as important as processor ram etc. A gamble we will be paying for.
That said I can't completely blame them. They did not know 3.0 requirements when they designed this tab.
I think you will see a big shift of tab companies charging crazy prices as 3.0 gets released.
$300 tabs with tegra and capacitive screen are not going to exist when 3.0 is out. Then once the dust settles they will release the $300 tabs again but for now it is all so new they feel justified in charging more. I would apply the opposite logic with ipad 2 coming out soon..
As far as this tab is pretty sweet. What I would like to know is how much would it cost to swap out the screen for a multi touch installed? If it was around$100 I would do it. Shouldnt we either try to hhck 3.0 to work with the tab as it is or change the hardware if possible..

G-Tablet Or Nook Color???
I want to run honeycomb but i want a big screen i want it to be fast but if i got the gtab then i also want a camera but if i put honeycomb on it then there would be no camera! If i put on nook it would be slow but i openGL would work right???
which also means flash player!!
I'm So confused and i need help badly.
If there is another tablet in the 250 to 300 range that can run honeycomb smooth and that also has a camera please tell otherwise please HELP!!!!!
I do not think you can get any other tablet for less than $300 that has any many options as the Nook.
A big screen, 10 inch tablet, running Honeycomb, for under $300.... does not exist at all as far as I know. If it DOES exist it is crap
If you want a camera then the Nook wont work for you. If you want a camera, and you want to run Honeycomb, then you are looking at shelling out a LOT more than $250.
My friend has the g tablet (I have the NC). I was going to help him root it last night but he canceled on me at the last minute. I was really anxious to see what the g tablet could do with CM7. But the thing is really smooth, probably a bit above the NC. But a lot of it comes down to personal preference. The 7 inch form factor is so nice and small, yet its plenty big enough to watch movies on. The 10 inch is very bigger in my opinion.
Viewsonic has the viewbook 730 coming out soon. It has a camera and other hardware the Nook doesn't. Its a 7 inch screen for the same price as the Nook. Might be an option.
There's a thread comparing the two: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948348&highlight=viewsonic
The consensus seems to be that the Viewsonic is...bad. The screen in particular is...very bad. A couple people were satisfied with it.
If you really want all the features you listed, save up and get an ASUS Transformer; it seems like the next step up from the NC that's actually worth what you pay for it.
In particular, if you're dead set on Honeycomb, get a Honeycomb tablet. There are no good Honeycomb custom ROMs for any device and won't be for at least several months, because no one has the source code--Google is holding onto it. If you're getting an NC, run CM7 with Honeybread or a similar theme. It's not playing make-believe any more or less than running one of the proof-of-concept HC demo ROMs, and you can actually have access to features like bluetooth, tegra2 games (running chainfire), Netflix, overclocking, and USB host, to name a few.

thank you i read all 7 pages of that thread and i want to go with the asus transformer but this is just if i cant get it there is a possibility of me getting it tho
Hi-
I've been reading the nook forums recently after spying that the nook was only $250 (compared to other tablets). I've seen the threads that have honeycomb built from the SDK (DeeperBlue sounds like a genius), and the thread that has his currently working video for honeycomb 3.1 from the Xoom as well as SDK. I was wondering.. realistically, how good of a tablet is the Nook? I know that CM7 can be run on it, which itself isn't too shabby of a tablet OS if it means I'm saving $200. However I read the Honeycomb threads and was just wondering if anyone here uses the 3.0 as a daily driver? I watched a few videos of 3.0 on the Nook on Youtube and it seemed to be running fairly smoothly, but I guess I didn't read enough to note if it was DD worthy or not.. to those that don't, would you recommend the Nook with CM7 as a tablet?
TL;DR
Is the Nook, with CM7 or the Honeycomb port worth the buy at $250, or should I just save up for an actual tablet?
Thanks in advance
I have a nook color with CM7 And it's really nice little tablet for the money. In so much as I've not seen another tablet that i'd want to spend my money on. I have ran honeycomb on it, and to be honest i feel honeycomb needs to be for the larger 10.1 inch screen tablets. And i had alot of problems running apps of the SD Card when i came to Honeycomb. However with CM7 it's as flawless as my HTC Glacier.
Its completely worth it. You can install it all to an SD card, so you never touch the internals, no need to root. Pull the SD card and normal bn loads.
I use cm7 as my daily, love it. I also made a honeycomb card and played with that, too. Its all pretty smooth. Typically can also oc them up to 1.2ghz.
So very very happy with my purchase. I watch Netflix, browse while on the can, even read a book once in awhile. I use xbmc remote app and control my home theatre.
Angry birds is sexy on the big screen, too.
--- sent with nook color cm7 n107 sd, xda premium app
Thanks to both of you! I went out and bought mine today from Best Buy, with two year protection (if I somehow manage to fudge it up), and an 8gb SD card all for less than $300

Too much information!
Hi guys. I just got a eloxity a7. the reason I chose it was for the tegra 2 chip. I really wanted dual core and something with nice graphic abilities because I love games. I have a color nook rooted. it's nice but it is slow and get bogged down very easily. the A7 is fast. actually much faster and more responsive. the screen has better contrast and is clearer. so when I loaded up "guerrilla bob" I was excited until I realized I couldn't move and shoot at the same time?!? seriously? on a tab this advanced with this kind of graphic power and raw speed there is no 2 point touch????? how can you design a tab which seems geared toward games and then cripple it???? I'm not looking for 10 points of touch here, just 2 dammit. I am in total shock. the color nook is multitouch and it's really a book reader!! and it's retail was less also. now I see on elocity's website there is an a7+ which has the missing multitouch. what?? the a7 was advertised as multitouch so I don't think adding a new model with the features that were advertised on the previous one is a great business move. how about a free upgrade or SOME kind of trade in program? How has this not put them out of business? On their site it says in the FAQ section that you can use emulators like SNES and move and shoot at the same time, but you can't how are they getting away with this? is anyone else as upset about this as I am? This is total BS!
