Google Nexus One Big OTA Update Soon

Rumor has it that Google Nexus One will be receiving a major OTA update with quite a few bug fixes and improvements. Although, this is a rumor, this is a possible list of updates included in OTA...
* Better memory management
* Fix multitouch issues
* Fix the blurry images on Android 2.1
* Possible 3G patches
* Activation of FM radio
source:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/nexus-one/1800-rumor-google-nexus-one-get-big-ota-update-soon.html
i hope thats true, and the ota update will fix the 3g problems. I dont believe that google ignore this problem cause they sell the nexus to germany and other european countries next week.
I would love for them to activate the FM transmitter and 802.11N also.
i think that this changes will be introduced when android 2.2 will be released, rumours say it should be on the 19 of May.
there are multiple threads about this in this forum. especially when you get it from a posting thats dated 4/14/2010. Just do a quick search so you do don't have repeat threads.

Original Verizon Tab Gets Gingerbread

I currently have a rooted Tab. If I update to GB will it screw up anything (other than unrooting)?
Original Samsung Galaxy Tab from Verizon gets Gingerbread update

Remember the original 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab? Verizon has given new blood to the ol' boy with a firmware update that gives the device a Gingerbread transfusion. The tablet was launched with Froyo installed and the update from Verizon adds some new features as well as Gingerbread functionality.
Android 2.3.5 is now on Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Tab
Besides receiving Android 2.3.5, the Verizon sold Samsung Galaxy Tab will also have improved word selection and copy functionality, improved security for the PIN method as when using the PIN on the device, you will no longer be asked to enter a symbol as a numeric entry and a "View Data Plan" icon will be available to let you adjust your plan. At the same time, a feature from Verizon Data Service gives you a real-time peek at the amount of data you have consumed for the month to make sure you don't go over your contracted amount.
Other new features coming with the OTA update are a download manager app, the ability to use the front-facing camera to record video, more accurate portrait and landscape re-sizing of widgets, support for Verizon's pre-paid service, and perhaps most importantly the update brings some security patches from Google.

So... It is beginning to appear that the Google IO 10.1 tabs will not be updated?

I like to stay with stock so I can get movies and drm stuff,, but beginning to wonder if ICS will ever arrive for the Google IO sub model? I don't suppose anyone has authoritive info?
As far as I know they are a different build than the other tabs and will not be updated. You might be able to do it yourself with Odin.
if you do not want to lose your unlocked and fastboot enabled bootloader, do not flash the odin package as is. remove the bootloader.bin from the package and/or create yourself a CWM zip and flash.
you can use any of the HC zips i created in the past as a guide if you go the CWM route. i believe you can also find CWM flashables for it in the dev section.
however, if you get a rolling screen, you will have to modify the LCD output accordingly in the kernel and use that, so it will be compatible with your current bootloader. you can reference this in the galaxy-2636 kernel sources on my github.
Will any of those approaches preserve ability ti get /run DRM content ire from Google Play (movies?)
Short answer: The Google I/O Version of the GT-7510 is supported by Google and not by Samsung. Samsung will not be updating it or posting an OTA update. If it will be updated, it will be directly from Google.

Longer answer: I spent about 3 hours on the phone with 6 Samsung techs on 16AUG2012 to get that answer. The group in charge of wifi tablets doesn't handle the Google I/O tablets, and they refer you to the cellular group. The cellular group then tells you that since the tab doesn't have a cell chip, it's not in their realm. In the end, Level 2 support on the cellular group had the answer above.
His recommendation was to "search the internet" for a custom rom and flash with that. He then reminded me that the tablet is out of warranty, so flashing isn't going to void anything. I agreed, but I can only imagine how many devices he's caused people to brick if he tells everybody that.
He also went on to say that Google is preparing their next flagship tablet and it won't be a Samsung device, it'll be an Acer device. When probed, he revealed it will be smaller than the 10.1" tab and it will be out sometime around holiday season 2012. I then told him the Nexus7 was already out and he was really confused.
If anyone else wants to try, the phone number for the cellular group is 1-877-652-4507. If they try to forward you to 1-800-SAM-SUNG, just ask for a manager or level 2.

What do you mean by stock? Vanilla android as in 3.0 and 3.1 as we originally had with these lovely I/O tabs, (so the last "Google supported" roms date from over a year ago now) or the later touchwiz offerings from Samsung not rooted etc? The I/O tab is a 7510 but with a nice exclusive back panel.
If you're still running3.1 you really are missing out on using the potential and power of this great device and can use any 7510 roms on it....
Mine is running 4.0.4 admittedly with touchwiz ( though Samsung have now 'toned it down' and it is far less cartoon-like) and it still remains one of the best performing and my most preferred tab (have zoom, transformer 101 and transformer prime ( complete cr*p).) It is rooted but of course you don't have to do that but even so gives no problems with films or dem that I have seen..
I downloaded latest Gt-p7510 ics rom from Samfirmware and flashed through Odin and it is now really flying and everything works tres bien
Screenshot attached showing movies works if that's what you mean by DRM etc...
I really can't recommend it strongly enough.... it's one of the earliest and best tabs which easily runs the latest iteration of android
Enjoy!!

Even tho the official Roms for this device have been close to untouched, there was some Samsung things in there stock. When I had to ship my io tab in I had to use a special number but it was still Samsung. All past updates have been thru Samsung not google. The guy I spoke to also told me the io tab was suppose to b updated to ics. But that was months ago and we see how that turned out. Just flash the one for the retail tabs and take precautions for ur bootloader. I flashed it and now I'm not locked anymore but I also don't have fastboot anymore (which I don't care about anyways.) All DRM stuff will work fine with the retail roms and touchwiz on ics isn't all that bad either

[Q] Anybody lacking official updates lately?

I've noticed that I seem to be missing a few updates that I expected I'd be one of the first in line for as a Nexus 4 owner.
Firstly, the Master Key vulnerability fix doesn't seem to have reached my phone. At least, according to Bluebox security scanner
Secondly, I still have no visibility of the new Google Maps redesign
My phone is a generic operator free Nexus 4 running stock (custom kernel though). Anybody else still waiting, or have I fallen off the automatic updates conveyor belt so far?
Where are you from? App updates from Google reach different parts of the world at different times.

Based in the UK. If you've had the vulnerability patch already, did it come in the form of an app download or an ota update?
I'm in the UK and had the Maps update the day it was released.

Google hasn't released a patch for the vulnerability that's why you haven't gotten it. All they have done so far is release the code to their OEM's so they can patch their individual versions of Android. More than likely Nexus devices will get the patch in the 4.2.3 OTA whenever it gets released. In teh mean time their is an app in the Playstore, ReKey, that will address the vulnerability. Or you could just turn off install apps from unknown sources in the security settings which will also take care of the issue temporarily.
As for the other app updates they can take up to 2 weeks to deploy to all phones.

SM-G935U Galaxy S7 Edge (Unlocked) - May 1st Security Patches

Had the Nexus 6P - but even with Franco kernel and normal use battery life wasn't long enough. Saw the release of the S7 Edge unlocked which was great so I went and picked it up from best buy last night. Big reason is the monthly update cycle and keeping everything patched from a security standpoint without the Verizon bloat and slow release cycles.
Went to check the patch level and saw "Android security patch level: May 1, 2016". Checked for updates and are none.
Anyone else experiencing this? Appears to be missing June for sure and the newly released July security patches.

Yeah mine has the same update. Does yours have the briefing feed on the left of your home screen? I noticed mine doesn't like the carrier ones do.
Same here..

Yep - same with me - no briefing feed when you swipe left - nothing there.
Wonder whats happening - would hope Samsung provides updates to their own phone.. ?
I'm guessing it's because the phone just came out that they haven't released an update with the latest security patches yet. They probably have to set up their update servers for this new phone and a bunch of other behind the scenes stuff to get updates rolling. I would assume that it will get something within the next couple weeks and then continue to keep up with the other variants.
Does this variant of the S7 Edge have an unlocked bootloader?
No unlocked bootloader - just not tied to an individual carrier i.e. verizon, etc. with the extra bloatware.
Still no updates yet to the SM-G935U.
Ended up returning it and going back to my Nexus - no updates really sucks.
Has anyone figured out how to get briefing on the left screen. I used that a lot and i can't get it to work. Even went to the play store and Samsung store, got briefing but it won't let me enable it on the home screen settings...?
I've gone round and round with Samsung support about this particular unlocked device. The bottom line is that they are saying OTA updates for these devices might not be available because those are normally pushed through the carrier. They suggested to use their Smart Switch tool to apply updates. Even though this is a terrible idea and they should use OTA (with the invention of non-carrier WiFi these days ), I checked using this tool and surprise... there were no updates available.
I'll spare everyone the entire conversation, but this is how it ended:
"We understand. If you have an unlocked the latest updates for firmware and security can be done through Smart Switch. If you have checked for an update using Smart Switch and there aren't any currently available, we couldn't speculate on when that may change. In many cases this wouldn't be delivered OTA because OTA updates are normally pushed by carriers. Unlocked devices may not be able to get updates directly from the carrier currently being used. ^Jay"
Mine just updated today with the August 1st security patches. If had to guess, they waited until the Olympics were over since they handed these unlocked devices out to every athlete in attendance and they didn't want them receiving updates during the event.
Hopefully now that the unlocked models have received their first update, they will continue to get regular updates at the same time as other variants.
just checked for update - 164.13 mb ) ( g935v flashed to g935u)
Interesting

Thanks for posting this one, thats good to hear. I wonder if they will proceed further. Good to hear Samsung's infrastructure will support updates in the future. I wonder if its only for security patches or if they will do incremental updates to OS as well, like Android N for example.
Just got this tonight. I didn't have automatic update turned on but I checked and this showed up. Idk if i should do it or not.
I'm on T-Mobile with the SM-G935U. I got the update a few weeks ago and now it shows the Aug 1,2016 Android security update.
As far as root and bootloader unlock should i not do the update or just go for it?
Can the sm-g935U be flashed using DFS Tools? Does these codes bring up the diag menu?

Can someone please try those codes and see if the diag menu shows.
Thanks

Those codes don't bring up anything. Neither does *#0*# - I'm still on the damned May 1, 2016 Security update and it doesn't seem to think I need one.
