Batti For Android - Android Software Development

I was looking at my wifes DInc lat night and noticed something. Her battery icon is the exact same thing as Batti on windows mobile. I LOVED that indicator.
Anyhow she runs a version of MIUI which of course will never see the light of day on the DX. Is there an app out to do this, can it be made, or is it simply not plausible on a locked down phone?
For those that don't know, google Batti, it is by far the best battery indicator (imho).

Android battery meter inaccurate.

Does anyone else have this problem? My phone will shut down from low battery, but if I reboot it back to windows mobile, it will last the rest of the day off battery power.
I have a third party extended battery, if that makes a difference.
I don't think the current battery level is being measured/reported properly.
I personally haven't had that problem. I wouldn't think having a third party battery would make a difference. As far as I know, the Phone OS has no way of distinguishing a third party battery from an OEM one. But I would agree that it's not measuring your battery level properly.
What build of Android are you using?

Yeah, what he said. The battery driver in our Vogue Android kernel is a hack-job, not an official driver. dzo did what he could to make it as accurate as possible with the Vogue's factory battery, so I can promise you that it will not read an extended battery properly.
I don't know if it will help, but the best battery usage I've noticed has been with Zenulator's xROM build. My phone easily gets over 24 hours with background data and auto-sync enabled.

It's actually fairly accurate on the vogue with a standard battery. I can't speak for Polaris or Kaiser users... but when my Android reaches zero battery, the phone will reboot into windows, where i promptly get a "low battery" error, and maybe half an hour longer of battery usage. Not perfect, but pretty close.

should of said it's wrong on my vogue!
Where is the code for the battery located? Maybe I can tweak it a bit to match my battery. Either that, or is there a way to disable the automatic shutdown when the battery gets low? I suppose if there isn't, I can hack the battery detection to just report 100% all the time.

Battery problems? Google lies?

So I found this great app that tells me how much life I have left on my battery. I find that with my phone I can hardly go pass 16 hours with MODERATE use yet everyone here is bragging about easily passing 30hrs with HEAVY use. So I'm asking you guys, to please, download this app called BatteryTime Lite and post your pics or info here. Lets compare the results. Remember to set the level to 100% as shown in my pic below..

No, stock. Why you ask?
i read somewhere that Stock and Cyanogen's ROM have display consuming a lot of battery... its fixed on enomther's and modaco's desire port...
On Cyanogen and Stock, Display consumes ~60% battery while on Enomther's and MoDaCo's desire port, display consumes 15~20% battery...

Thats what I herd too..thats why I'm also calling google a lier about saying this thing lasts 20hours with audio playback.
I'm curious, do they see a big improvement in battery when the display using 15-20% battery or its just numbers that were out a place to begin with?
I have identical figures. That combined with picking the N1 from a list says to me that these are just database figures rather than real world ones for your handset.
Root your phone and then install cyanogenmod and one of the under volted kernels. I usually get 24 - 30 hours battery life.
I just ran a test. I left the mp3 player on all night turn all the way on repeat. SO far after 8hrs of playing I was at 52%. If I'm correct, I just might be able to hit 18hrs...MMMM

No problems at all? no 3g issues?, battery only lasting a day or half? or touch screen issues?
Ok after 100% charge..the app is telling me that my phone will last 10hr:48min with moderate use....anyone thinking that the F on my P/N might mean battery sucker..
i have the exact same numbers as you. if you choose other instead of the phone type it asks you to enter your battery's info so it sounds like it only goes by the type of battery anyway. Not actual usage specific to your phone
My phone ends in an F as well. My battery life SUCKS right now. I have tried everything. The weird thing is it was good until I rooted my phone and applied Cyanogen rom. I've tried .2 and .3 for the Cyan rom's, all with bad battery life. I've tried wiping batterystats, fulling draining battery then recharging, task killer to wipe anything in the background, I even have a 2nd battery. No luck. I've also tried the undervolted kernal, but I didn't really notice a difference with it. (Only tried it for about a day so)
Bottom line though, something is going on. Something (I suspect with Cyan's roms) is killing battery life for some of us. I just wish I could figure out what it is.

Any chance you're using Weatherbug or Weatherbug elite (based on your SS)? After installing weatherbug and using the widget I got absolutely ABYSMAL battery life. I've purchased several other weather widgets and none had the effect that Weatherbug did for some reason. I removed it and battery life is back to normal again (moderate use and plenty of battery at the end of the day).

How long your battery lasts definitely depends on the apps youre using, I use my phone a lot, probably more than the average user, although i dont make many calls. My phone will easily last from when I leave my house around 530am till 11pm or so when I go to bed. I do use a task manager to kill stuff I dont need running every once in a while, I think it really just depends on how you use it. I use it for a lot of texting, surfing and news, and Pandora at work. I use wifi when im at home although ive never noticed it eating my battery. Yesterday I was playing Pandora over bluetooth on 3G for a little over 3 hours and it only took 5% of my battery. Im on Cyanogen 5.0.5.3, if that matters. With all that said I rarely go all day without charging it, I usually plug it in a bit at work and plug it in when I get home, but if I dont for whatever reason it easily lasts my whole day.

Battery notification doesn't seem to match percentage?

So I've had my Vibrant for about 24 hours now, and so far, I'm loving it. I've been keeping a close eye on the battery, trying to get a feel for the usage numbers and such, but I've noticed that the icon on the notification bar doesn't seem to match up very well with the percentage listed in Settings > About Phone > Status. My phone is currently at about 45%, but the icon shows mostly full. On my old MT3G, it would have been halfway down or more. While it's not a huge issue at all, is this normal? Anyone else noticed this on their phones?
I have seen it and same thing is happening to me.
By the way I am on my third vibrant. First one had wifi issue and it would not connect at all ..couldn't even find it.
Second one had the well known GPS issue so I still exchanges as now i see that most all people are having problems with it.
Yup, I'm sure they're aware of this and fixing. It's pretty silly.
this is actually an issue with android itself. ever from the beginning its been showing the wrong level. check any android phone by going into the settings>about phone>status. the indicator is far from where it shows.
The G1's battery indicator seemed to be spot on to me. I haven't seen any other phone's battery indicator though.

Yeah the MT3G didn't do this. It's not a huge issue, so if they fix it in an upcoming OTA that'll be cool. In the meantime, I went and got BatteryLife, pretty cool widget with lots of neat info. When CM6 is available, I'll be happy to have the number right on the bar again. Till then, this is a perfectly acceptable stopgap fix.

Absolutely not true. The Galaxy, in all if it's glory has only very minor issues for the most part. I expect a software release, UNLESS they are really close to releasing froyo which would make sense to hold off and do just one update.
I hope for the latter. Those of us who rooted should get the OTA update, but would lose root.
Froyo would be nice, the T-Mo rep I spoke to when I bought my phone said it would be out before the end of summer, but you know how they are. They also said HSPA+ would be out here in San Diego by then, and if they're right about both, I'll be one happy camper!
I do miss froyo on my n1. Oh well, won't be long now. Digging touch wiz the more I use it.

I've seen this too. I use the Battery Indicator app in the market that places the exact percentage pull in the notification bar.
Yeah, I noticed this too. My battery indicator will show 50% but the system will show 35%? You'd think something like this would be caught before release. I hope this and a few other issues get fixed before 2.2!

JI6 update: a *serious* let-down, in my opinion

So, this post is 1/2 "rant" and 1/2 "any ideas", but the JI6 Update has been (in my opinion) a very serious letdown.
First of all, I can't be alone in thinking that the late-September update from Samsung would be a full-blown upgrade to Froyo. Obviously it's not. I guess we'll wait awhile before that's released
Secondly, I'm one of those sorry saps that had the update soft-brick my phone. It took me a few days to get around to the ODIN fix (bumping me back to "stock"), but it was still a royal pain.
Thirdly, I've already seen some issues that I didn't have before. For instance, the phone "froze" on me while sitting at home: no screen response. I had to pull the battery and power up again. Nice!
Finally, the battery life is utterly horrible for me -- and I'm not sure why. Currently at 26% battery life (now 8h 4m since unplugged). 34% of the usage is "display", which has been on for 28m total. 22% is cell standby. 15% is phone idle. 10% is voice calls (2m 10s of that). 8% is the Android System. So on and so forth. Basically, I've *hardly* used my phone today, yet the battery isn't going to last thru to the afternoon. I have 6 active applications, with none of them hitting the CPU at all currently. Best of all? The battery icon looks like I'm about 1/2 full, so evidently Samsung couldn't be bothered to make that icon accurate. I know about the battery icon mods out there (I've used 'em), but I figured Samsung would take care of that.
Sorry for the venting, folks. Is anyone else seeing similar stuff? Any ideas on the lame battery life??
Thanks,
Yip
For me Android 2.1 which samsung released in Galaxy S is exactly like Windows Vista ! No matter how many updates you release for it still will make your phone **** !
The only option is to release a full new OS which is Windows 7 = Froyo !
Better than Windows NT = 1.6
Getting your phone bricked isnt the updates fault, there are hundreds of threads out there and reading just one couldve given you signs of warning.
As for your battery life, I am willing to bet your phone screen is full of widgets. Try limiting those, as well as automated syncing. I get excellent battery life that can EASILY last me the whole day (I actually find myself running avatar/pandora at the end of the night just to drain it so I can recharge the battery).
However, I do agree that the inaccurate battery reading should have been fixed a long time ago (or at least in this update) and that froyo should have been included with the release of this phone.
Your cell standy is too high which means you have things constantly using the cell signal to pull data, thus draining your battery. Right now I'm at 72% with 67% display, 14% voice calls, and 9% cell standby. Been unplugged for 3 and a half hours.
Not great but I'm purposely trying to let it die because I'm reconditioning.

Ha! You may just be right on that. Eclair seems like a fairly lame version of Android, if you ask me. Not horrible, but not great.

"Signs of warning" means nothing, my friend. There are folks who didn't even *root* that got soft-bricked with this update. It was (somehow) poorly handled.
As for your widgets comment, well... you would've lost the bet. I use a single screen, no widgets, no weather stuff, bluetooth off, wifi on (but currently turned off), and nothing extraneous. I run Android about as light & frothy as you can get! I prefer speed over just about everything.
Any other thoughts, though? Perhaps I should re-load Autostarts to see if there's anything strange launching at boot time...

Interesting. Any ideas what would be pinging the cell standby so much? I'm in a high-bandwidth area (full bars), so it's not like the phone is struggling to get signal. I use Gmail and Exchange, but my Exchange sync is set to "hourly", rather than push.
Doesn't seem like I'd need to disable my 3G connectivity. I certainly have never had to before.
You should probably reflash the update. JI6 was great on my phone, no hiccups, no lag, perfect GPS.
Also, you should recalibrate your battery after the update and give it a few days to settle down. I always get horrible battery life after flashing a rom, but after a few cycles I'm back up to 24h+.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Honestly, I wouldn't know unless I knew your full setup. What I will say is that I do have a lot of widgets and apps running that pull from the internet but yet my cell standby isn't as high as yours. I haven't reduced any of my sync intervals either. The 3G radio can really drain battery fast, faster than even the screen so that is a problem.
Also, in JI6, they increased the strength of the radio so it drains even more battery. I am running the JI6 modem however.
You should use something like WatchDog to see what is constantly running and using CPU. That could give you an indicator of problem apps.
Well, I'm disabling some startup items: Visual Voicemail, Telenav, and Daily Briefing -- none of which I use. Maybe that'll help. I don't know...
I was really trying to run "stock" this time around -- not so much fooling and tinkering with things, but it doesn't appear to be paying off for me. Frustrating.

Oh wow, yea definitely you need to disable all of those. That's the first thing I do. I actually uninstall Visual Voicemail, Telenav, Amazon MP3 etc. ALL of those things constantly run for some reason even without you opening them once.
You're not alone. My battery life is terrible as well after the update. I'm losing 4% an hour on standby.
That said, my phone is smooth and working great when I do use it.

I'm having terrible battery life as well.

Again, if you didn't do so after the update, wipe battery stats and then do a few full drain/charge cycles. My battery life always sucks after flashing a new ROM, but it always goes back to normal given time.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
after the update for me, my gps is much better, but i actually have more lag then i had stock before....
so I need to either flash a kernel, lag fix, or a rom with at least one of those.... its kind of frustrating to have lag just from opening or closing a simple app, messages, or call... I honestly cant believe a phone with these hardware specs can have lag just from somthing as simple going into the dialer and exiting out...
Battery life seems to have decreased a little but still getting a good 20+ hours. GPS is a little better with use wireless networks. Lag is an issue now though. Didn't have much before a the update. Hopefully its solved in another update or froyo.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So I applied the update on Tuesday through Mini Kies. First experience with this update, it's been great. My phone seems to faster, really I hardly experience any kind of lag or slowdown (and this is in comparison with my stock vibrant running OCLF). Battery life even seems to be better, but that is probably to do with conditioning. So everything has been good except for the fact that my phone has froze on me TWICE today. I'm thinking it's something to do with the apps though. I was in Layar and it was working for a bit when suddenly, it froze, I didn't have to pull the battery I just held the power button down for a good 5-10 seconds and it restarted. The other time was in a game, which kind of concerns me. I suppose I can reinstall both and see how that goes. I'm thinking it has more to do with the apps possibly being corrupted. The first thing I did was install the 2.2 market on my phone and I ran the update all function on like 15 apps that needed updating. Not a good idea imo, the market went crazy and forced closed a couple of times. I'm not entirely sure what is going but it seems like my phone is only freezing in certain apps. I hope it's not just some random freeze that can happen at anytime, that wouldn't be no good.
You guys complaining about battery life... i would Love to have your times. I got 3 hours and 8 minutes today on a fully charged battery.

Want to update Wife's Inc, not make her mad

So my wife hates the battery life of her Inc. I even got her a bigger battery (the one that is bigger but still fits with the stock back) and its really gotten bad. She gets maybe a days use. And use for her is hardly any data mostly talking on the phone. Its maybe 30mins to an hour on average of talking, some texting, and that its about it. I would think the battery would last longer.
I am no stranger to rooting and loading Roms, did it on my Droid 1 and now on my Thunderbolt, but the wife's phone has been off limits. But now its getting to the point where I want to step in and improve it. So I don't want to be flashing roms all the time, just need a stable rom with some nice bells and whistles, a good kernel for battery life, and I can load it and not have to worry about it.
ruby rom 2.0.2 and incredikernel 4/19 and then underclock it in gem settings. the best battery life ive seen ever across any android device ive had. its an aosp rom meaning no sense widgets, but that can be fixed with a third party launcher like Launcher pro plus. Not even sure if thats a factor. You could also try the xda superpower app wgich gives you automation with certain battery drainers, ie. 3g. let me know if you need help, because I have been on the quest for long battery life for a while and this is it.
I think she likes the Sense stuff, don't want to make it look too different than what she has now.
skyraider 4.1 with stock kernel then.
When you say "stock kernel" do you mean the kernel that comes with skyraider or the actual stock kernel (or does skyraider come with the stock kernel?).
it comes with the stock kernel. also check what is syncing and how often in system settings.
yeah I have clean out her syncing stuff, Cell Standby is using the most power, so I am not sure what is going on.
something is syncing definitely too much. my standby time is around 3% all the time and I manually sync.
I'm running SR4.1 with chad's 12/23; I unplug at around 7:30, and by the end of the day (around 10pm or so) I'm usually sitting at around 50-75% battery; that's with wifi/data off (turned on when I need them) and moderate texting (phone on vibrate) all day.
If you're getting Cell Standby as the biggest battery drain, that means she's in areas with low signal and its trying to find a stronger signal.
^^^^ That too. Forgot that part, but for whatever reason ive noticed sense roms have higher usage. Coincidense, maybe.
Do you mean higher usage as in Cell Standby or just in general? Just in general I can see why, because it has to draw more graphics on the screen for the UI.

im talking cell standby. strange, I know.
Hmm, that's weird. Could be because of stuff like HTC Check-in services, since that stuff would be in Sense ROMs...but idk. Guess all I've really used were Sense ROMs, so I don't have much of a basis to judge from.
Cell Standby is when you have no service. That is when it's constantly looking for a signal and can't find it. That's why her battery life sucks. In low service areas, when the service goes out, it starts searching for a signal, which eats battery life. I have the same problem at my job, because there's like no service there. Can try putting it in airplane mode in those areas (which makes it use almost 0 battery), or get JuiceDefender (works great OOTB) and use that to only allow sync's every X minutes......

Not necessarily no service, but low service as well. I live in an area with low signal in places, and work in metal buildings that really cut my signal down as well.
Well we work is roughly the same area (maybe half a mile apart) and I never have that much usage on Cell Standby. Something is screwy and I am hoping a new Rom and kernel that does some unclocking might help. Maybe starting fresh I can configure it better.
She took it off the charger this morning at 100%. When she gets home I will post her battery level and usage info.
1/2 a mile can be a big deal. I don't know the kind of environment / area you're in, so I can only guess.
You could also try flashing a different radio if you want, too. Heard good luck about that sometimes.
Magnolia ROM. Rock steady; NO issues at all.
Tried and true
It doesn't seem to be getting any more updates but Incredibly Re-Engineered was my go to for speed, stability, and battery life.
re-engineered is a good choice as well.
