flashed ka7+voodoo but no effect? - Vibrant General

hi
i have installed stock froyo rom with kies than flashed with clock workd ka6+voodoo all went good.
now i have tried to flash the ka7+voodoo all went good i think (no errors) but in phone info i still see the kernel version ka6.
is this normal or something went wrong?

Just trish reflash through rom manager. Make sure your on a 2.2 rom that is compatible with the ka7 kernel.

i am on a samsung stock 2.2 rom - will i be able to use a ka7 or kb1 kernel with stock 2.2 froyo from kies not from google?

did you enable it?

no, i don't know how.
clockworkd finished flashing the ka7 kernel than i rebooted.
current kernel ver. showing 2.6.32.9
build: FROYO.UVKA6
update zip was taken from supercurio thread.

About Phone doesn't show kernel version as ka6 or ka7.
It does show the BASEBAND that way, but that is not the same thing.
Your kernel probably says "2.6.32.9"

so if i understand u correctly i have the ka7 installed atm.
is there a way to know if it rly is a ka7 kernel.

Noob question

got a galaxy few days ago and rooted it on the second day.i used super one click root and i had superuser.but i wasn't satisfied with eclair so i used odin and updated the firmware to 2.2 XWJPA.
my kernel version says [email protected] #1
does this mean i still have root?after updating to 2.2 i cant see superuser app anymore so i have tried using the same utility to root again but the prosess gets stuck in installing superuser.
what should i do to get root?
sorry if this is a stupid question
Firstly make sure you have 3 button recovery dont flash anything without this and secondly i have the same firmware as you and all you need to do is flash another kernel. I flashed CF-Root v1.2 kernel from this forum and it worked a treat. search for [30.10.10][CF-Root v1.2] JPH JPK JP6 JPM JPA JPO - superuser+busybox+2e, CWM compat!
goodluck
Yea i checked it before and i have the 3 button config.
thanks for the quick reply
let me know how you go, when i flashed a dif kernel i then used oclf which is 100% campatable and installed touchwizGTG launcher also from the forums and it is smooth and stable.. Happy days

What is the "modem" ?

When reading about roms I always see them saying to make sure I have some specific version of the modem, which needs to be flashes separately, etc
What is the modem? Is it just the baseboard version on the system info page?
Yes.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab, that makes phone calls
So if that says (something something).DK28, I have the DK28 modem?
When I update to a different Rom (planning to pick up one of the ones based on official 2.2 when they come out) do I need to do something else to get a newer version of the modem too?
Yes if it says ....dk28 under baseband you have 2.2 modem. If you want to flash a custom rom you are fine. Your baseband is already updated. The reason why roms say that is some people used the update.zip method to go to froyo but you still had to Odin your modem so people were on froyo but modem was on eclair. If you use Odin with the tar files you always get the modem with it. Good luck
I used update.zip to get to DK28 and it says I have the DK28 modem.
Baseband version: S: D700:0:55: DK28

Yes, there is one update.zip that will flash the modem, but it requires you to be on DI18.
Odin is the fool-proof method
yes odin is the best way. it starts you out with a clean start.

Hey guys i recently put 2.2 on my phone via kies and realized i cant root my phone with 2.2. So i wanted to go back to 2.1 and root it and flash bionix which to my knowledge is running a more customized stable 2.2. Can someone please tell me how to get back to 2.1 so i can do this over again the RIGHT WAY lol. thanks
You can root with SuperOneClick
Check out the Thread by Nothingness00 or you can flash the KA6 + Voodoo kernel on Supercurios post and have root & CWM in one shot.. Dev section

yes...from what i've read you can root 2.2 from kies via SuperOncClick...
but if you just want to go back to 2.1 just for kicks and giggles then flash Bionix-V...
then use Odin to go back to stock...
root..
flash CWM recovery...
then flash Bionix-V

If he isnt rooted then he can't flash Bionix . His only option would be to use odin to revert back to any 2.1 stock rom, but like you said he should be able to root it just fine with SOC.
To the OP: Search, and answers you will find.

if you updated to 2.2 via kies then you have stock 2.2 Froyo
Bionix-V is a heavily modified Froyo ROM by Team Whiskey...it has lots of performance tweaks and VooDoo lagfix enabled by default...trust me...TW ROMs are gold.
so can i root my 2.2 with SOC then flash bionix on it or do i have to go back to 2.1 first?
You can root with SOC
SOC is not working for me. it keeps giving me an error message after i click root i have frame work 4.0 installed and the drivers for the phone installed as well

The most suitable gb rom for i9000m

Hi guys
Currently I am using ugjl2 stock rom with speedmod kernel.
I cant wait until samsung provides gb update, they are too slow in progress, especially in north america.
Korean version of galaxy s is already updated and had some more updates for bugs
Back to the topic,
Can anyone recommend me custom gb rom thats easy to install and has full camera performance?
Oh! And i need the way to get back to froyo(ugjl2) stock rom.
Do I just flash ugjl2 file via odin?
Um...also I need to keep 3g working
Thx
I used both Simply Honey and now Juwe, no problems.
Well... there is the OS battery drain glitch happens once in a blue moon... simple restart solves the problem...
Just make sure you flash an 850 enabled modem KC1, JL2 or JK4 etc...
To get back to stock just flash in Odin, I have not done it but do a search on here people seem to say just flash the stock firmware.
P.S. Froyo UGKC1 is newer then JL2
Do you flash kc1 modem after the gb flashing or together? And where can I find odin flashable kc1 modem?

Do you have kc1 modem?or links that i can downlaod it?
And does csc matter??
just flash the kc1 modem after you have installed the ROM, there are lots of links with modems just search to forums... You can either use oden and just flash the phone file but there are also some CWM versions you can install from recovery.
How about the csc??
Do i need to flash another file? Or doesn matter?
flashing a csc that is not compatible with ther kernel will mess it up... so I suggest not flashing the csc. just flash the phone file

I'm running Tweaky's 4.1 which has a JVO modem. As you can see in the screens, I'm on KC1 and the CSC is different from the PDA (but the only thing I changed on the phone was the modem). Simply follow the instructions flashing the kernel & rom. In my case it was install the rom on the SD card, flash the kernel via odin, install the rom in recovery, reboot, clear caches and when everything was up and okay, flash KC1 modem by itself via odin.
An additional safeguard against battery drain is Autostart. It analyses whats running in various stages of boot and normal operating modes. So you can turn off background operations (like updates) accordingly, and save juice.
I've been running stock JVK with CF-root kernel and KC1 modem. I have great battery life and the phone is super snappy. I'm thinking of upgrading to another GB build but I'm quite happy with JVK so until I start seeing some slowdowns or there's some major improvements I'm just going to stay with JVK.
Jvk is just not official and probably contains more bugs then jvh or jvo

JVO was the most stable in my experience.
Rumor has it JVO fixes some bugs on JVH and also fixes the OS battery drain issue
SH3.5 and change the karnel after install
the best for me

I was on JVH (JVO modem) simply honey and Juwe's for awhile and I was getting 2 days+ battery life with moderate use on Bell. This was compared to 1-1.5 days on JVK modem.
Then I switched to MIUI, though the battery drain issues haven't been fixed there yet and I'm back to getting around a day-ish charge.

I'm still getting the android OS battery drain bug on JVO. Has happened after playing Cordy and playing music on doubletwist. Going to try using SetCPU to throttle it down when the screen is off.

hi, posted similar on another thread but still fairly new at this so could do with a bit of advice please?
i9000m running stock froyo 2.2 kc1, speedmod kernel.
is getting GB simply a case of flashing a new kernel or do i have to go with a custom rom? i wouldn't have to change the phone/csc files in odin would i?

which modem do I have actually?

Hi all, I'm new here so sorry if this is a noob question. I've been fiddling a bit with the software on my Vibrant and am a little confused which modem I'm using now. I flashed the Bionix V v1.3.1 which I believe has KB1. I proceeded to flash Overstock 1.4.3 found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967861 which is KA6 based. Does it mean that I have flashed over KB1 with KA6? I check the phone info and it says that the baseband version is T959UVKB1 though. I'm not sure if the baseband version changes with every modem flash or ROM flash.
Also, if I flash with an updated modem, eg. KB5, would my overstock be overwritten, or does it change only the modem?

whatever the extension on the baseband version is your Modem. So in your case its KB1.
Overstock is a kernel, totally different from the modem.
You can flash different kernels, it wont change your modem.
Kernels and Modems are two separate things. Overstock may be based on KA6, but that just involves the kernel.
If you flash the KB5 modem, that is the only thing that will change. Your kernel wont be affected.
Bionix 1.3.1 was built using KB1 modem
Its in the op for the rom
