I'm currently on super clean 1.0 and like it, I'm just the type of person that likes to try everything that's out there. Thinking about trying this black hole rom once I learn more about it. Why do you guys run the rom you do over the other options out there?
Sent from the iPad, I know....
I ran superclean but i was like you and wanted to try blackhole. So i switched really easy just loaded from rom manager did a wipe data/cache for good measure. Its really nice.
They are both basically the same except that black hole is more customizable, being that you can go to rom manager and get additional stuff from sonofskywalker3.
I am sticking with blackhole for now, but superclean to be sure was awesome too great job by all the devs.
Running blackhole 4.01 with superdark theme very nice.
Stock, manually debloated.
There's a few stock apps and components that I like which are usually removed from the cleaned roms, and there's a few AOSP apps added to the cleaned roms that I don't care for. So for me, it ends up the same amount of work starting with a clean rom and removing and adding what I want than if I just start with stock and remove what I don't like.
I'm Running blackhole 4.01 with superdark theme. But my question is, why do I not have a clock in the Notifications window? I did on DL09 rooted... What gives?
Sorry guys, I'm pretty new to the whole rooting procedures, a co-worker that I worked with rooted my phone, I'm just slowly trying to learn and understand how it all works

The theme you are running more than likely removed the clock.

Also after loading blackhole 4.0.1 froyo, I get a "Google Talk authentication failed" error? Any ideas as to why. Thank you in advance
You could probably get answers faster in the rom's thread under development... I'm gonna try black hole tonight....
Blackhole with Midnight Theme. Looks great and always liked blackhole from since 2.1.
I'm running Blackhole 4.0.1 both for the ease of use with ROM Manager and for it's combustibility. Sonofskywalker seems to go out of his way to provide options.
superclean 1.0 with superdark.
i was running superclean for dl09 so sticking with that as i have not had any issues and phone is fast and theme looks great
Whose running Rubik? What's the deal with that rom?
superclean 1.0
I'm about to flash Rubik. Been on stock with removed bloat and trying different themes. So far I've tried the GB theme and the touch of blue which I love aside from the circular battery thing. I prefer the stock battery icon for some reason.
DL09 - Leaked 2.2 Rom (removed what i wanted) worked better for me
Superdark theme
I tried clean 1.0 - started adding and removing so moved backed to leaked rom
I will stay with what I have until kernals start rolling out!!
Rubix.03
Flashes it first and removed the few things I didn't want and like it so far.

Hey I also installed the superdark theme before recently installing midnight 1.2 which is awesome. If I remember correctly for superdark there were different links for the theme and one of them had the clock put back in. I remember having a clock when I installed the theme, you should look over the thread for that theme.

I love the stock battery icon as well. Let us know what you think of Rubik. I've been curious for awhile now, but it's not as talked about as other roms.

I'm digging Rubik so far. It's snappy. The GB theme is really well done as well. A few things were removed that I miss, but that's what I keep the DL30 leak on my SD card for. I'm gonna try flashing the touch of blue theme over this ROM and see if I get any FC's. But I'm loving this so far, definitely recommended.

Okay let first start off by saying I have commitment issues. Lol. I rooted my Epic yesterday, i"m pretty sure it is a permanent root. After rooting I did a full wipe of data/factory and cache.
Now I didn't know which rom to install. Bakedsnack or epicexperience. My preferences are better battery life and best looking launchers/themes after first boot without installing any other kernels since I'm a noob. So idk which Rom fits my preferences more (some help with please?)
However, I installed bakedsnack, used it for a few mins and went back to recovery to install epicexperince (I did not wipe data/factory again). After I installed it I rebooted the phone but all i get is a blank screen after the sprint 4g logo. I could hear some notifications like when I connect my charger it makes that sound. SO the phone is on but screen is blank/black. I did get a bit tense so I went back to recovery and again I didn't wipe anything but I just reinstalled Bakedsnack.
Now for the commitment issues, I was using bakedsnack without a default launcher for 3 hours. Didn't know which one to choose (touchwiz, awd or launcherpro). After 3 struggling hours i ended up with launcher pro(and now I found out about the app called home switcher -_-).
So idk if its a problem for me installing a rom 3 times. Did my epicexperience get automatically uninstalled? or is it still in the system?
Another question, when I go to settings>about phone, for my firmware version it says Baked-snack-1.2, and the kernel version says 2.6.29. Is the kernel supposed to say that or is it supposed to show that a custom kernel is installed?
(i think bakedsnack has a custom kernel).
Now can anyone pleaseeee help me about choosing a rom. Hopefully epicexperience will work if I do a clean wipe which I didn't try yet. But i'm open to any advices, suggestions. Can anyone with experience tell me which rom is all around better for battery life, looks.themes/launchers/widgets, performance?
One last question (sorryyy!!!), I leave juicedefender running 24/7 so my data/3g could be disabled whenever the phone is idle. Logically, I think this saves battery, but i've read here and there that literally bakedsnack rom saves more battery without juicedefender running. Is this true? if yes, then how?
I am sorry for such a huge post but I am confused lol.. Thank you very much for bearing with me. I appreciate it a lot and will appreciate any help. Once again Thanks.
Wrong section, but ill take a stab at these.
When your asking the question about performance and battery life between backedsnack and epicexperience. You really can't compare. The battery/performance driving engine aka kernal is not included in epic experience. You find and flash your own. However the EE (epic experience) rom has quite a few tweaks to it. Including the new reboot from system menu. Backedsnack I can't say forsure about it. I ran 1.3 but seemed buggy to me. And switched back to epic. And for you battery question. Overclocked kerrnals save battery ushually by undervolting the cpu and setting the govener to save you battery. Therefore any program that would run in your backround 24/7 is just going to eat battery. Even if it says it saves battery, it still has to run to do so. And that's just my 2 cents. Next time please post in a different section

ahh sorry for posting here.. just very new to these.. i think bakedsnack already has the cpu undervolted, but how can I do it and set the govener manually just to be sure?
thx a lot for your reply.. increasing my knowledge base.. can you please be a bit more specific to how epicexperience has more tweaks to it? and does it look better than bakedsnack? i'm loving the bakedsnack notification pull down window..

Alright, well since your new to all of this I wont get into technical detail to confuse you.
But, now that you have flashed Baked Snack, you are running Baked Snacks kernel as well as the ROM. What I suggest you do is go to recovery and than wipe data/cache/dalvik cache (Located in Advanced). And than flash Epic Experience, than reboot. After it boots up, you will be running Epic Experience with Baked Snack kernel because Epic Experience doesn't have its own Custom Kernel so it keeps the kernel you have on the system already.
Now, Epic Experiences theme is nothing like BakedSnacks, and your probably nto going to like EE's theme if you like BakedSnacks, so what you should do is go to the Themes And Apps part of this forum and go to Baked Snack Theme. Download that and put it on your SD card, go into recovery and flash it just like you flash ROM's and Kernels.
Now you will be running Epic Experience ROM, Baked Snacks Kernel, and Baked Snacks theme. Thats your best bet because Epic Experience has a great rep around here because its constant updates.
Theres my two cents.
Also, check out the Emotionless Beast theme in the themes and apps section, Mysteryemotionz combined Baked Snacks theme and Androdena Theme together, it looks awesome.

Oh and what do you recommend I do for the best battery performance? should I leave this kernel or should I flash phoenix? still having commitment issues whether I should keep this EE (i have installed it successfully). Its running perfect for me but I compare the logs between EE and Bakedsnack, and bakedsnack seems to offer so much more: better battery all around, faster performance (from what the log states), camera tweaked to get better videorecording framrates (im a huge camera guy). The only thing stopping me from going back to bakedsnack is that the forums are only for authorized help, so I cannot educate myself further about the rom lol.. and the developer is less fan-friendly.
what od you think about me running juicedefender 24/7? will it help me or harm me with the battery usage?
anyone? please..
Hello,
Thanks to all the members on this site who have provided all the info necessary to go from stock to SC 2.6, non-voodoo. I have been building my own PC's, overclocking, modding for years. I figured I wasn't clueless when it comes to all things techno and should be able to handle this. I have been studying the forums for a month and finally dove in. Really want to steer clear of the "please hold my hand" and do this for me type questions. Unfortunately, after searching for a while, I have to do exactly that. I can't seem to find specifics on installing or removing the various themes. If I'm blind, could anyone point me in the direction? The sticky on themes seems to cover how to create them, not flash them on. Thanks again to all the devs and others who have posted their experiences. I would be stuck on stock forever without you all.
The themes come in .zip files, like roms and kernel. And like roms and kernels, you flash them in CWR like usual. Reboot, and your phone should have the theme installed.
There is no way to remove a theme. Though, you can backup before installing a theme, and restore it if you don't like the theme. If you want to use another theme, all you need to do is flash the new theme in CWR, then reboot. Your new theme should overwrite the old one. Hope you enjoy your device!

Thanks, I get the idea. Do I wipe data before flashing? I don't think i did when I flashed SC 2.6 as all my contacts and everything were still there. Phone works well, so now I'm convinced I'm gonna brick it if I try anything else. But I can't resist.
Themes don't involve wipes, so no worries there. Just flash themes away!

all the post that I have been looking at are very old roms. There are a ton
of new roms that have come out. Please lets talk about your best or favorite rom? What is the best rom you have tried for Vibrant. That would help so many of us
that can't pick what rom to try out. I know everyone has different views, but
we want to know what you like?

I don't know I currently think we can use an update after all it is general you don't have to comment.
I tend to think you have two options right now. the 2.3.2 update roms IE CM7 and [BETA-2] 2.3.2 - XWJV1. both of which have there own downfalls. IE GPS doesn't work.
Or you can go with a 2.2 Rom like Bionix butter or frost. I'm currently going to look into Darky's Rom. All features work on these Roms.
Until we have a true 2.3.2 Rom those are you choices
I have made the most out of the time with updating Kernels you could look into those as well if you are twiddling you thumbs waiting for a stable 2.3.2
[BETA-2] 2.3.2 - XWJV1 is 100% stable for me so far. i had one weird sleep of death yesterday but havent had it rear its head again.
non working GPS to me does not equal "unstable"
unstable would be if the phone consistently locks up while sleeping, has random reboots, has lots of force close issues, etc.
I'm not sure what you mean by "old". All of the regular ROMs have had numerous updates (axura, bionix, trigger, darky's, etc....) old would be the people that necro like macnut or fusion.
You can go with any of the ROMs posted in the dev section along with any of the kernels. Just have to do some reading.

I personally can't say enough about the Honey Sweet 1.4 ROM...it is a 2.2.1 Based ROM, no issues at all.
It has a "unique" launcher that goes with it, so it is different then your norm...
I am running Honey Sweet 1.4 with Overstock Kernel (Voodoo enabled), and I constantly get a quadrant score of 1700+. This is the FASTEST, MOST STABLE, MOST ENJOYABLE ROM i have ever used...and I have flashed EVERYTHING from CM7, to the Leaked Gingerbread 2.3.2 ROM, to the "old" bionix, Loki, Trigger, Arura, etc...
I flash my phone more then an 18 year old at mardi gras trying to get the most beads!
Just go to the development section and seek out the [ROM]'s. Most have dates in the heading. Then you can read what people are saying about them.
Personally, I like Bv1.3.1 with overstock. Smooth, fast, voodoo extras and stable.

As long as the kernels are of the same breed then I haven't had a problem yet. Like voodoo to voodoo. (not too sure about OC or UV kernels) Best advice, use sgs kernel flasher from the market and back up your old one before switching. Also, be comfy with odin, just in case.
Kernel switching is about as simple as changing your underwear though.

I just went with the newer Trigger with Overstock and I'm liking it a lot. I usually stick with TW. roms but wanted to try something else.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
You really can't go wrong with any of the roms we have for these phones in the dev section. I would suggest a few things before you start flashing. First, be sure you backup everything with Titanium Backup or MyBackup. You might want to also go into Clockwork and do a Nandroid backup just to be on the safe side. I also have free apps called Call Logs Backup and Restore and SMS Backup and Restore. I make backups of everything then I can flash away and not worry about losing anything. I flash a new rom almost ever other day and since I use my phone for work too I need to keep my data.
I know a lot of people here don't flash back to stock and just flash over the existing roms they have. I always flash back to stock then put the new rom on. I also don't have any of the problems that I see a lot of others having by doing it that way. It takes me 5-10 minutes more but I know it is right and stable when I am done. When I get the rom on that I wanted I go back into Titanium Backup and restore just the apps and data (Menu key/Batch/Restore missing apps with data). Do not do a full restore with the system data or it will cause you problems.
When you are done restoring reboot and you should be good to go.

It's been a while since I have messed with Root on my phone since putting on Iced Glacier 1.6 for 2.2.1 Android for my MyTouch 4G.
So I need a little help or clarification.
Following this post directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175536
I updated to the 2.3.4 ROM and for some reason occasionally get the phone showing the "MyTouch" white screen after exiting an app.
Also get "MySense" failed to load or forceclosed when starting up the phone. I think that is what it says...
I re-installed my apps using Titanium Backup, but I think I am missing a few even though I made a full App and System back up the night before doing any of this new ROM rooting. I also did a "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager.
1: Is Footballs the most basic stable rooted ROM out right now?
Or what is recommended for battery length and smoothness?
2: How does Virtuous Unity compare in stability and speed and battery life compared to other ROMs right now?
I liked Iced Glacier for it's baseness and speed and lack of bloat-ware and I don't change ROMs often. I want one that works and is stable and I want to stick to it.
Not wanting to brick my phone moving to new stuff.
My other big question is:
After installing Footballs Rooted ROM, I still get the 2.3.4 OTA update reminder.
How do I remove that ????
And yes I did a lot of searching before posting this in order to refresh my brain but could not find a precise answer...
So thank you to anyone that can help with these questions and steer me in the right direction.......
I run virtuous unity on one of my my touch 4gas and it is stable and all functions work including tango,,, love the fact there is no bloatware.

It all depends on what you like actually. For a stable rom that you will stick with for awhile that is just like the update to 2.3.4 without the bloat. I would recommend GenerationX v5, its the most up to date rooted/debloated stock version. If you like sense, but not mysense. They Virtuous Unity 1.29 seems to be the favorite stable right now. Keep in mine there are AOSP roms out there like faux's and cm7 that people enjoy as well which are excellent speeds and awesome battery life over stock type roms.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm honestly not sure what the difference between Sense and MySense is since I don't keep up with this stuff anymore.
And if I flash one of the ROMs I of course need to make a full wipe and then install. will this erase the homepage icons and need to re-install all my apps again ?
Like i said before i'm not looking for flashy themes, just no issues & good battery life & speedy response when doing things on the phone.
Thanks again for the help....
I have a Droid X that's rooted but It's on the stock Froyo. I want to flash it to a custom ROM but I don't know how I go about this.
Right Now I can't Decide if I want CM7, Justice, Liberty GB, or Liquid. What's the best one to go too? I care about speed, battery life & awesome features.
Should I upgrade to gingerbread?

I would say go to gingerbread, just because it is the most update version and imo better than Froyo. Most all of the roms have great speed, as far a batery life and features tho ehhhh lol 1 of the 2 will have to be compensated by another basically meaning.
For instance, Liquid and CM7 has tons and tons of customization's about anything you would want to customize you can with those roms, yet due to so many customization features more data is on the rom which compensates the battery life.
Liberty doesn't have as many custom features yet the battery life is superior to Liquid and CM7.
So its all a matter of your personal preferences. I am currently on Liquid 3.0 I also have my phone underclocked and I have been on my phone uncharged for 17hrs with 50% battery still left. I love this rom, thinkin about checkin out the new Liberty or the Shuji rom by Mobile Sensei. After a few days and some more reviews by others.
Speaking of amazing battery life Mobile Sensei is the master of that had ICX by Sensei and could easily get 35 hours off the charger with no problem. Yet rom did not have really any custom options. As I said give and take.
As far as flashing a custom rom. You will definitely need Droid 2 Bootstrap by Koush from the market I think its 2.99, so you can go ahead and download that now. Also as far as flashing a rom I would suggest you visit droidmodderx.com or visit his youtube (just search droidmodderx). This guy Shane is amazing and can show you better than I can tell you how to load a rom. This guy does actual tutorials on how to load a custom rom. So definitely definitely visit one of his sites and you will be good to go (you can download roms from his website as well). You can actually go step by step on your phone loading the rom while you are watching the tutorial on your computer. Decreases the probability of errors.
Hope this helps guy.
Thanks Alot! I'll check out his site & comeback with an update. You helped alot.

Good post with good info!
I just want to add that the d2 bootstrapper is available to download somewhere on the forums, so make sure you take a look around. I downloaded it from here when first flashing CM7.
Also, most if not all of your questions have already been answered somewhere, so check the stickies, and use the search. If you cant find anything close to an answer you need, feel free to ask!

No problem man. Definitely keep us posted on how it goes for you.
I flashed it to .602 GB to move up to the recent roms but I like it how it is right now. I was wondering can I put t-mobile theme engine without CM7?
I went from GB back down to Froyo and put Darkslide on my DX.

Not sure if I'm understanding your question. But if a theme is built specifically for whatever type of rom you are on the yeah it shouldn't be a problem. If you are running a a Shuji rom i doubt that a theme for the CM7 rom would work on it.
Ok Cyanogenmod 7 has a T-mobile theme engine built in the rom. I was asking is there a way I can install that T-mobile theme engine onto the stock GB .602 rom?

Theme engine cannot be used/installed on any non 2ndInit rom.

Which Custom Roms besides CM7 have t-mobile theme engine included?

I'm not sure about the Tmobile theme engine, but, in my opinion, MIUI has a FAR superior themeing system.
MIUI's theme manager offers control of just about every themeing aspect of the device.

I think I might have to flash over to that, I flash to the Liquid Smooth 3.0 rom & my dailer force close as soon as my phone boots up, whenever i receive a call or try to dail out.. It's the only problem I'm having with this ROM
