[Q] Checking amount of internal flash memory - A7 General

Is there a way in settings to check the amount of internal flash memory that is in my A7? i bought mine from ShopNBC, and apparently some where shipped with 2gb instead of 4 gb. the box mine came in says 4GB, but I want to make sure
Thanks

I got mine from there too. Looks as though I have 1.5gb of free internal memory from the settings. Hrmmmmm...
From terminal, a df command shows that there is close to 4gb. Appears as though the data partition is set up as about 1.5 gb or so. Curious what others think?

The A7 contains a 4GB eMMC Module via HSMMC Interface for System Boot and Storage
You can run the "df" command from a terminal prompt (I use SSHDroid so I can ssh into the device over WIFI). The firmware presently doesn't display the amounts properly so don't go by what it tells you is available via the GUI.
# df
/dev: 190832K total, 0K used, 190832K available (block size 4096)
/mnt/asec: 190832K total, 0K used, 190832K available (block size 4096)
/system: 148420K total, 143558K used, 4862K available (block size 1024)
/data: 1224782K total, 359492K used, 865290K available (block size 2048)
/misc: 1976K total, 1976K used, 0K available (block size 2048)
/cache: 396678K total, 26336K used, 370342K available (block size 2048)
/storage: 1600452K total, 225540K used, 1374912K available (block size 4096)
/storage/sdcard-disk0: 7766184K total, 28K used, 7766156K available (block size 4096)
The last item (/storage/sdcard-disk0) is my 8GB MicroSD (need to get a larger one) but if you add up the amounts on the various mounted filesystems, you can see it comes to about 4GB. Not thrilled with their partitioning scheme but there is tons of space for applications and then I just use my MicroSD for Music/Videos.

Memory allocation problem

I've upgraded my Magician with Anansky's big_storage rom... I want to use as much of the memory as possible for Program memory as opposed to Storage memory, so I load up the Memory Settings and slide the pointer from Program towards Storage... however, it seems to reset the pointer straight to the middle if I leave it a few seconds... even although I am keeping the pointer between the two markers (within the blue area).
The only program I am running is Spb plus.. does anyone know why I can't set the program memory higher than the default?
Memory Settings reports:
Total main memory: 57.41Mb
Storage
Allocated: 26.64
In Use: 7.81
Free: 18.43
Program
Allocated: 31.17
In Use: 12.68
Free: 18.49
I face the same problem in Blueangel also,
by trial and error I found that around 92-95 megs out of total of 128 megs, remains stable and does not slide back. u can try yr optimum config.

Storage space in Universal - confusion!

On all my PCs, I have known how much storage space is at my disposal. But not on the Universal.
The user manual states that the device has
ROM: 128 Mb RAM: 64 Mb
But using Settings -> System -> Memory, I get the information that the space is 43.72 Mb for storage and 47.93 Mb for programs.
That makes almost 91 Mb. What is the relationship between these 91 Mb and the ROM and RAM? And when I use File Explorer (or Total Commander), I cannot see any distinction between areas for storage and programs.
Can anybody remove my confusion?
Welcome to the world of Windows Mobile 5...
128 MB ROM is divided into space for the operating system (+- 64 MB) and persistent storage (this is where you have 43.72 MB available). Persistent storage will preserve your data even when the battery is flat.
The RAM is no longer user controllable, and you cannot (easily) store anything there. So the 47.93 MB for programs is purely informational. No more slider where you can shift between storage and program memory.
obviously you are new... but please, research and read the existing thousands of discussion and contributions by hundreds of people on this same topic.
it is expired, old and tedium when the answers are here, over and over and over again.
there is a search function, it works try it.
Here's how it goes:
he Universal comes with 128MB ROM and 64MB RAM as compared to its predecessors who had the exact opposite.
The 128MB ROM is divided into 2 parts:
1) OS + Extended ROM (around 84MB)
2) Storage (remaining 43.5MB as shown above
The 64MB RAM is 90% available to run programs. As with the earlier version of the OS, there is no longer a provision to alter the memory allocated between storage and program memory. Of the 64MB RAM, around 15MB RAM is used for running the OS while the rest (47.93 MB) is left for running installed programs. This is more than enough to do multi-tasking without hiccups.
Hope this helps If you still have any queries about it, please feel free to ask.
hansof feel free to ask anything you want, we arent all smart arses like simon_dreary. In my experience the search function is rubbish.

Memory missing?

Hi,
in the prophet specs it says that it is supposed to have 128MB storage and 64MB RAM.
When i pop open the memory in settings it says:
Storage
Total: 47.46
In Use: 18.37
Free: 29.09
Program
Total: 44.01
In Use: 33.69
Free: 10.32
Where is my 64 and 128? Have the memory nomes stolen it?
Cheers,
Oz.
Yes, those gnomes are tricky little bustards
But seriously, I wrote this before and I am writing it again:
128 and 64 are "box numbers".
First, the calculation there is a bit off because they round up 1024 to 1000 when calculating KB and MB. It's just like with a memory card or PC hard disk, even with nothing on it you see a bit less.
Than there is the division:
128 ROM is all your flash and it is divided as follows:
64MB +/- OS Image, 10MB Extended ROM, whatever is left - yours to do with as you please.
64 RAM - well we already established that you should see around 55 instead of 64, plus the OS reserves some so there you go.
Those numbers are normal although we all wish they could be bigger (the available part any way).

How much free ram to you have on your magic ?

I noticed that different roms give more free ram to utilize applications.
When i ran Hero-rom I had less then 100mb of free ram and when I ran nk2 Ion i had 135 mb.
To check get taskkiller and add the task bar widget. Kill all applications and check how much mb u have.
This is based on the size of the ROM nothing new. The Ion ROM is 44.5 MB and the Hero ROM is 81.2MB, your going to need 36.7MB more room to install Hero.

How do you see the total amount of ram that your Magic has? I have a Roger's branded Magic which I "assume" has 288, but don't know where to see this.

It does if its a Rogers no need to check.

a.k.a. a device that is impossible to check the ram information on.
Well if you don't trust the spec sheet from Rogers or HTC or any of the DEVs or numerous posts on this. You can (if you have root)
Check how much RAM do you have => adb shell cat /proc/meminfo
A 32A should have around 197000 kB free.

I have the t-mobile mytouch and advanced task manager usually shows me at around 36mb free with only required services on. I've noticed that the phone always has a "Contacts and myFaves" app running. When I force close it, it usually frees up 20mb or so more memory. I've tried to uninstall it, but can't... I'm assuming the only way to do so will be when/if we are able to root the mytouch.
Thanks, I am rooted. I didn't realize I could just run some shell commands.
This is the first new lines in the meminfo:
MemTotal: 197144 kB
MemFree: 12264 kB
Buffers: 8 kB
Cached: 30084 kB
This is from running the "free" command:
total used free shared buffers
Mem: 197144 185780 11364 0 8
Swap: 0 0 0
Total: 197144 185780 11366
Looks like 197mb total, is that right for a 288mb phone? I assume so and that you mean't 197mb total. 12mb free isn't much...
If all that is correct where is the extra ~90 megs?

What do think is running got ROM?
Seems like it would still say total mem 288, even if 90 megs is taken up by the rom. I know my linux box sure doesn't hide any memory from me when I run free.

HTC HD 2 - Memory 336MB vs 448MB

Hi guys,
My HTC HD2, if I go to Settings - SD Card & Phone Storage - Shows as follows:
Total Storage: 191.68 MB
Used Storage: 75.28 MB
Free Storage: 116.40 MB
Total Program: 336.06 MB
Used Program: 150.39 MB
Free Program: 185.67 MB
If I go to Settings - About Phone - Hardware Information: It shows a RAM size of 448 and a Flash Size of 448 MB.
My question is:
TOTAL PROGRAM means the total RAM memory? If yes, where are the 112 MB?
Is there any way I can check how much RAM does my phone have free and how much is in use?
Thanks a lot for answering this.
System has taken up some RAM, like for GPU
manila reads the hardware but windows reads the accisable memory
If your phones working ok then its not an issue so don't worry about it.
Get hold of CleanRAM if you feel it necessary.
