[Q] Hardware Key turn off - deactivate? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi all,
Today I noticed that the HD2 switched off when I had it in my trouser pocket.
I noticed that it is possbile to switch off the device even if the WP7 screen is locked.
Is it possible to deactivate the function (only switching of the device) of the key if the lockscreen is active?
Didn't find anything....

+1 for this, I've had it turn off and reboot in my pocket too!

I noticed you can unlock the device by pressing the power button (screen turns on) and then long press the camera button (device unlocks and goes to camera)

I don't believe it properly unlocks the device, just enables the camera.

Or maybe it can be changed something in the registry...
Button needs to be pressed much more longer time!

I am having this same problem. Phone turns off even when locked if the power button is held for a few seconds.
Is this a generic WP7 problem, or just HD2?

Power off and Device Lock Reg Edits?

Hello all,
I am new to the forums but I have been using the HTC Touch for a few months now, and would like some guidance about a few problems i'm having. First off, I am using the official 6.1 rom with sprint....
I am running S2U2 and am having a problem with my phone turning off while in my pocket. It seems the power off menu can be brought up if you hold the power button, even if S2U2 is running. This is very frustrating, is there anyway to lock the power button when S2U2 is running, or any other option?
Is there any edits that can be done to make S2U2 call the factory device lock? I couldnt find anything related to the lock in the registry. If there is, is there anyway to assign the factory device lock to the power button, so that when you blank the screen it auto-locks? I love this feature with s2u2, and with stock device lock it takes 3 buttons to do this...
Thanks!

The only thing that I could suggest that might help is to get yourself a good case for your phone that would protect the button from being accidentally pushed. I have never had this problem with my phone. The button actually has to be pressed and held to bring up the power off menu. Even when not in it's case, I have never had this happen; however, the phone is only out of it's case, when I am using it. In the case, there is even less chance of powering off the device.
Rod.
The default device lock works just like S2U2, as it leaves only the power button unlocked. If you locked all buttons, how would you turn your phone back on??

The problem i'm having is that the phone actually powers off while in my pocket somehow....what i'm saying is that the phone not only "wakes up" from the standby mode, but also calls the shut down window and you can press the "yes its ok to shut down" button while s2u2 is running, something the stock device lock will not do.
It would be really nice if there was a slide type lock that was based off the code of the stock device lock.
Thanks for the replys
Find what the application is that launches when pressing the button and add it to the S2U exclusions list.
I have a verizon and my power button toggles screen off and on, so im not entirely sure, Is this a stock popup or a program you installed ? There is probably a registry entry somewhere that defines how the power button functions jsut as the button manager does for other buttons.

I understand your point, and am still wondering what it is you keep in your pocket with your phone that shuts it off!? Anyways, why do you keep referring back to the default device lock? S2U2 performs the same way, as it locks everything besides the power button. If the power button is locked, how would you wake up the device to unlock it ???
the power button has two functions, it blanks the screen if you press it, or it brings up the power off menu when you long press it. The problem i'm having is s2u2 doesnt prevent the power off menu from coming up, where as the stock device lock does. Thus, it is possible to completely power off the phone while the keys are locked.... of course I want to be able to wake the phone up with the power button, but i dont want to be able to turn it completely off.
And i'm not sure how it turns off in my pocket, except i usually carry it with the power button face down (phone upside down) and it must press against the bottom of my pocket...
The application that it is calling is the stock shut down menu, i'm not sure how I could add this to the exception list, as I dont know how to call it remotely....
Thanks again for the replies!
The title of this caught my attention.
It would be very nice to have a registry edit that will lock the device when powered off or on device wake up.
I use S2U2 and I am really not liking it personally, but it is better then the default setup currently I feel.

[Q] Screen off without locking device

Hi,
I want to know about any app or widget that just put screen to off, without locking the device. Same function like when I press the power button.
For example lock automatically device time is 5 minutes after screen automatically turns off. So if I press power button, it simply turn off the screen, if within 5 minutes pressing home button or power button again, it brings device on. (do not ask to unlock device pattern or pin)
So far I have checked almost all apps / widgets that on press, lock the device as well.
I am not looking for apps which are using any proximity or any other sensor. I am using galaxy s4
I already have checked other related questions in this xda developer, but could not find the answer to it exactly.
Thanks
Interested as well!

This one maybe: HERE. Try other thing too: Put the lockscreen off manually (Apps - Settings - My device - Lock Screen - Screen Lock - None)

Power button

Hello,
I have a strange problem with my Nexus. My power button is acting strange. Long hold brings up power menu, but:
- short press does not turn screen off
- Smart cover also does not turn screen off
- double tap to status bar does not turn screen off
- 15 seconds of timeout also does not turn screen off.
What is happening? Thank you.
So your screen will not turn off at all besides powering off the device?

Thats right.
Well i don't think the power button itself is the problem since it works to power it off and on, and since the screen wont sleep by other methods either.
Did you flash a new ROM, kernel, or other mod before this happened?

Question about Fingerprint/Power button

Hello G6 owners, I have a question about the fingerprint sensor/power button. Is this a physical button that you press in, compared to the fingerprint sensors on the Pixel phones? If so, do you have to physically press it at the same time you scan your fingerprint in order to turn your phone on? Or can you set it to just turn the phone on with a touch? Also, if this is indeed a physical button, does pressing it while the screen is on turn the screen off? And finally one more question: how hard do you have to press? It seems like it would be awkward physically pressing a button in that position...
The V30 looks pretty awesome and I'm assuming it is the same as the G6 in regards to the sensor/button.
Thanks!
When you want turn off the screen or shutdown the phone you need to click ( simple click like all buttons ) and for wakeup or open your phone you need just a simple touch on the button for scanning your fingerprint ..
You can also use the double click on the screen for turning off the screen or double click + password/knockcode/pin... For wakeup the phone

screen wake test anyone?

Hello everyone here,
I just run into trouble - a power button on my Galaxy J5 failed. Few days ago home button failed too.
Device is still on and running, so I need a quick check for not locking myself out.
1) after phone was locked - can volume keys wake the screen? (so I can enter e.g. an unlock pattern)
2) does J5 require to press power or home button to turn it on (e.g. after power down)
3) does J5 require to press power or home button to wake screen after it is restarted?
also, if anyone would like to suggest...
4) how can I access restart menu? or just restart the device?
5) any other issues I can run into?
6) can the be a software issue?
7) can a non-affiliated repair shop get this easily fixed or would they probably make things worse?
any advice is welcome!
phone is not rooted. Lock screen security (pattern) is now deactivated.
Model SM-J510FN, J510FNXWUAQG1, Android 6.0.1,
thanks!
Plug in charging, if it wakes up its working!!
thanks for feedback!
yes, it is working I installed Gravity Screen app and it seems to be doing fine with turning screen on and off.
The only question left is what to expect if the battery should run off one day or I'll need to reboot the phone or take out the battery... I am afraid it expects pressing power button to start booting, but its not working... any ideas?

Yep.. Then you'll have to take it to the service centre, that's the only solution I can think of.. :silly:
today the power button misteriously started to act again. I'll stick to Gravity app for waking the screen and hope the button will work in rare cases when needed after powerdown....
thanks everyone for suggestions!
