Data Throttle Hack. Will it work on our HD2? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I was wondering if anybody was successful in making this data throttle hack work on our phone. if it is even possible.
i have tried to implement this into a few roms but all were a failure and made each rom crash and not boot up. it would be cool to have this on our hd2
reason to why i want this hack is because it will no longer limit our speed, so if this hack is successful we should reach 4G speeds on our HD2

So basically this will give us the service that we paid for, no edge or 3G crap from time to time (or most of the time) but full 4G ,huh?

No this is for if you are throttled and they'll text you if you are. your problem is your phone is set to 3G preffered instead of 3G only. set it to 3G only by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone info. set to WCDMA only.

Surely 4g speeds can't be hit on a phone that wasn't designed for it?
Or am I missing something in America?

You're not missing anything. The radio in the HD2 only supports up to 7.2 mbps. No software can change this.

I thought so, from what I can see that thread is discussing the option to overturn your connection being throttled due to too much data usage, nothing more.

is there any update on this? are people working on it??

Tethering

I searched for 'tethering' and 'tether' but didn't find it here.
Tethering allows you to use your phone as a router to access data services from laptops and other similar devices. While the speeds may not be close to broadband, with maximum connectivity with 3G webpages load quite fast.

Android ?! Moto - HTC ?
If its a free open source app and not a paid app from the market your fine run a search though for wireless tether for root users and go to the google.code and you can get the WiFi tether app

If you have root, then yes, Wireless Tether for Root Users solves that and doesn't get you charged by your carrier
I've used it extensively on Sprint, as long as you're not tethering to a lot of deivces, you're good

Can I have web2go on my Vibrant if I root the phone?

I had an hd2 with an Android evo rom which let me use HDSPA speeds with web2go... now that I got the vibrant (without the 30 dollar plan), is it possible to use web2go if I put a custom rom like on my hd2? I obviously know from continous research that its impossible to have it with the stock rom but is it possible to have web2go with a custom rom? thanks.
No. It does not matter what ROM are you running, unlocked or not. They know your IMEI number if that is a T-Mobile model.
Probably, first few hours works with web2go plan, then they'll block. Also you'll receive SMS messages for reminding you to add correct data plan.
Tip it will still work. I've tried myself.

how did you get it to work?
Go to settings then networks and click mobile network. Click apn settings and make sure all the way in the bottom you have mms and internet selected. Then open your browser and it'll work then.

I tried what tge post above said with internet2 and it didnt work... U used that eith a custom rom?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I've used it with every custom rom for the vibrant and it worked every time. Do you get signal at the top of your notification bar with edge showing it's downloading and uploading? There should be a green and red bar blinking if you do.

I'm curious if this still works also. My girlfriend recently lost her phone so I am giving her my old G1. She is coming from a dumbphone she she doesn't use the internet much, will mostly need it for checking email and getting directions.
The internet2 thing works I hear?
Crazy I have those arrows when I try to go to a website... but it redirects me to web2go data update... even when I have those two arrows. Does web2go work for you with a stock rom? If not then what custom rom should I use (that will look the same as the stock I like the stock)

I know TMO is getting very picky on their data plans, and they insist you have a smart phone plan for your Android device, so they may have started blocking some how ..
But there has been announced that $10 200meg data plan for smart phones.
I know access to the market and such only works half assed on my "Windows smartphone" plan when using my HD2 on Android.
its very hard to find a solution for this someone please help me... Crazy25000 you have been the most help till now can you please answer my post before this

You have kind of answered your own question IF you are getting redirected to "web2go data update" , then TMO is telling you that you need to have a smartphone data plan, and most likely your phone has been identified as a smartphone.
Download eugene froyo rom. He has the second revision posted and that's what I'm currently using. It is stock and everything will be familiar to you plus awesome enhancements. Promise

Here w go again!!!!!!
You can only surf the net and talk on the phone if you are using 4g or wifi. Because these are seperate radios. If u are using 3g then it is impossible, it is a limitation of cdma tecnology.
Please do not argue with what i have said it is fact and not my opinion.

seems like you're blaming it on miui, what other rom let you surf and talk at the same time?

It doesn't matter the which Rom, as ling as its cdma it won't talk and surf unless its on WiFi or 4G.
Scientific fact, no fix or hack.

OP, this is an HSPA+ phone. If you can get 3G, you can get 4G (H). The icon just isn't in framework-res.apk. Most likely, the phone it was ported from was a 3G only phone. Hence, no icon.
Ordered my Nexus 4 on the 13th. Still waiting.

Jesus Christ, the ROM maintainer just said the speed is the same. Also, no. You would obviously screw it up as it requires reading and you're obviously not willing to do that.

App for Google Calendar and Sync Fail
First of all, great ROM!! Excellent. My only concern is that I can't get access to my google calendar. If the Fliq calendar can do it, I can't find the setup other than buying the missing sync software, which I'd rather not do. I've tried multiple apps from the play store and even pulled the calendar.apk from CM7. No joy. Also, the calendar sync fails with a sync error. I've tried reinstalling the ROM after a full wipe and hard resets, no luck. I can't find anything here or online that seems to address this, but I figure I'm missing something simple. Any help. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Never mind. I found that if I put the file in for the Joy Calendar sync, everything worked fine. My wife loves the ROM. Thanks again.
Also Rom gaap doesn't work whenever try to download something. Have to use Blackmarket. Really love someone to continue working on it could be the next good Rom out there.... Just saying

Is there a way to use this HTC Evo Shift in my country.

Hi all, I have this device given to by my sister-in-law from US., but I leave here in Philippines, is there a way to may this device be used here in my country? Thank you very much in advance.
Im not sure, but the same way that people flash to carriers like Boost, I guess you could do the same with one of your local carriers. But you would have to do some research to get all the necessary pieces like a donor phone, mms gateway URL and all that, I wouldn't know how to obtain that info unless you have an inside person but thats just my 2 cents
The first thing is to find out if a cdma network is available where you are. The Shift uses cdma but the majority of the world uses gsm...

That's what I was about to say lol, yeah it is doubtful because almost everybody uses GSM. And there was never an international Shift made as far as I know.

Thank you all for such replies and info's. I guest it can't be use here as a regular phone since there is no available CDMA service here. Well, i'll just use this as an experimental phone as I learn Android. Once again thank you folks.

Here is a cool app that will let you use your shift to make calls via wifi. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snrblabs.grooveip I hope this helps.
I've noticed in some of the ROMs I've installed that there are settings making it LOOK like you can change between CDMA and GSM. I never believed it was actually possible, but interesting that there are settings like that included sometimes.
Yeah, thats because CM uses the same base for all their roms, then makes it specific for each device
If you try to switch, it doesnt actually work though, like you said

Those ROMs are cross platform, such as cm7.. they were released on multiple devices on multiple carriers so adding that option makes it easier for use with different carriers. The only way you can get both is with an international cdma device (there aren't many)
