i can't post under the dev thread and i hope i'm not breaking any posting rules but i was hoping someone can help me figure out why everytime i try to install the 2.2.8 or higher it doens't work. everything goes fine untill boot, the screen emulates the tv turning off and black screen after that. it doens't shut off because the home buttons still light up, but screen is black. tried installing with voodoo shut off, or on, nothing. tried going from 2.2.6 which is my daily driver (with tw's dow 1.3 kernel, open to suggestions if another kernel would work better with axura and be around the same performance) anywho, still didn't work. tried going from bionix v to it and still nothing. not sure if im missing anything, agian thanks to all the devs for all the help, hope someone can shed some light on the situation.
thank you boys and girls of the droiddev universe
Try flashing to jfd first then to axura

When I flashed mine I went from 2.2.7 to the newest one I think its 2.2.9.0 when it boots just give it some time it takes a while because its also installing voodoo if you lost your patience and reboot by removing the battery you might have to odin back to stock and reflash axura

Boot up on 2.2.8 and later is 5-12 minutes you need to wait. After you install and then reboot, look at the clock and time it, DO NOT rely on your sense of timing.
BTW, it takes a long time to boot after, even when you add a new theme. Remember it is in ext 4 not RFS, that rewrite process is slower.
thanks alot guys, it did just need some more patience on my part, def takes longer than the previous versions, working great, thanks again for all the help. side note, anyone know how i can toggle between front and back cameras in the video callings apps. none of them recognize it, but it works fine for mirror apps and such.

Go to Camera, hit that and open/ then hit the tab to show menu setting (if it is not already open) in the upper left corner there is a little icon with a circle arrow around a camera icon. hit that that changes back to front and vice versa.

the camera is working and recognized by the rom, and even apps in the market, such as mirror apps and funny pic apps. it isn't recognized by the video calling apps, like fring, tango and even yahoo messenger. that's the one i need help with.

After searching the forums and the internet in general, I was unable to find anybody that knew how to get into safe mode on the SGS Vibrant. In an effort to help a friend with a FC loop from hell, I have persisted until I discovered how it's done.
Power up the phone and start pressing the capacitive buttons. As soon as they light up during the boot up process, usually once the video of the 'S' begins, press and hold MENU & HOME all the way through the boot process until you see SAFE MODE appear in the bottom left of the screen. At that point you can release the buttons and you will now be in safe mode. This is similar to safe mode on Windows PCs. It will load just the bare minimum to get the system up and running. This is helpful if you have some rogue app crashing the system or as in my case, a launcher that went into a FC loop and wouldn't break free. To return the phone to normal, just reboot.
**Be aware that any widgets you had on your screens will need to be thrown to the trash and replaced upon restart.**
Great tip!
Thanks.
Wow... thanks. Wasn't even aware safe mode existed......

patriot, thanks for creating the thread man. I've added it to the Sticky..
I have tried this on Froyo JPM
I have tried this on Eugene's JPM 2.2, but it does not work.
Is this only on 2.1 ROMS and what build specifically are you referring to?

I'm using Stock 2.1/JI6. Safe mode *might* be omitted or broken on custom ROMs. For discovery sake, maybe you can keep trying it. Sometimes it can be tricky to get into, because timing can be everything. Keep us posted...

Thanks! Glad I could contribute something useful to the community. I know XDA has upped my level of knowledge in a year's time.
Ok so i started this thread as a result of what happen to me. He is my story, i was on Bionix Fusion 1.1 w/Voodoo and of course i had that backed up along with Bionix 1.9.1 w/Voodoo and JI6 w/One Click Lag Fix. I was having issues with a app (Beautiful Widgets) where i was trying to have the weather how up on the notification bar but it would not come up automatically unless you went into the app and selected "save & apply" every singe time, very anoying. I contacted the developer of the app and the last thing he asked was if i was running the stock launcher. Since Fusion uses Launcherpro i decided to restore my JI6 w/One Click Lag Fix. To my shock when i ran the restore i ended up on Android System Recovery and could not get pass that even if i tried using the other 2 restore points (Bionix Fusion 1.1 w/Voodoo, Bionix 1.9.1 w/Voodoo).
I posted my problem in the Q&A section hoping for a solution but of course i got nothing back, so i found a thread regarding someone being stuck on the Android System Recovery screen just like me. It was mentioned to use Eugenes Froyo that does not brick and then flash the stock JFD rom. After many attempts i finally got my phone up and running but little did i realize that my entire phone got wiped clean, meaning i lost all my songs (over 100) 2 .avi movies, a few wallpapers and all the different Roms and Mods i had installed. Basically my phone ended up just when i first bought it. I was very upset i lost everything but glad that i got my phone up and running again..
So what to do to avoid this? when doing a back up using CWR and if you are running Voodoo, MAKE SURE YOU DISABLE VOODOO BEFORE BACKING ANYTHING AND THEN SAME THING GOES FOR WHEN RESTORING, MAKE SURE VOODOO IS DISABLE. I believe this is a very important point to note but no one has ever mentioned it anywhere in the forum. Yes they advise to do backups before doing anything, they advise to disable Voodoo before flashing anything but never this. If i had known this i wouldn't have spent hours freaking out and wondering what was wrong and looking all over the place and waiting for someone to help me out.
Now i have to spend more time installing everything that i lost and getting my phone back to the way i had it before this happened. I hope this helps and that maybe it goes up in the sticky so people can easily find it.
I would like to thank jdkackley for bring up the fact that Voodoo needs to be disabled while backing and restoring.
P.S. i still can not get the weather to come up automatically on the notification bar, still in constant contact with the dev of Beautiful Widgets app.
I'm assuming you checked "Temperature Notification" in settings.... You didn't say. Are you restoring app + data each time you flash a new rom and not changing the settings of BW's?
I dont understand why you would need to keep going in and clicking save and apply... have you deleted the app, and the downloaded it again?

Yes i did click the "Temperature Notification" and still nothing, every time i restart my phone i wait about 10 minutes and nothing so i have to go into the app and click save & apply, i have also un-installed and re-installed the app and same issues. Thank you for your insight, i still have not heard from the dev in regards to me running the app on the stock launcher so i just have to wait and see what he/she says.
But the main reason of the thread was because it has not been mentioned about how to properly backup/restore if you are running Voodoo.

only task manager i have is the one that came with the Fusion 1.1 rom nothing else and no auto starts.
EDIT: ok it seems to be working but i only get the temperature in the notification bar about 10-15 minutes after the phone is turned on and is finished with the boot sequence, i thought it should come on automatically. E-mailed the dev on this and waiting for a reply.
I just turned on the notification bar temp... rebooted.
It took about 4 minutes and the temp is showing up.
I have autostarts installed which prevents a lot of apps from opening on boot. Not sure if that helped with my better time. I also have BW set to refresh on wake (and the automatic refresh is like 8 hours or something long).
A great developer... I'm sure he can figure it out. You may want to ask if a logcat is needed... you may want to try an app like autostarts too (free for the 24 hour window, cant hurt).

Hello,
I flashed the 7.0.0-RC1-Glacier last night with no problems. This rom is freakin amazing and I plan on making a donation after writing this.
I noticed some things that might be wrong with the CM7 but am not sure if its cause of me or the rom. I will explain.
*********
The "g" button located at the bottom right side does not work. Meaning, when it was stock and I pressed that button, it would load that app that says you can speak your commands, like text bill or etc.
When it was stock on the keyboard I could choose "speak the message" or use SWYPE...but in CM7 I dont see that option on the keyboard.
Also, when I first flashed the CM7, I went to camera just to check it out...and when I took a picture, the shutter didnt make a sound, which was GREAT! But then the next day I went back to camera and now everytime I take a shot, the shutter makes that noise.
So far thats all I can find for now.
Thanks in advance,
Brian K

1) On CM7 the "g" key is used for a search key, if you long press it you should be able to use the native "google speech" application.
2) CM7 only comes loaded with the AOSP keyboard. Swype is closed source and not open for anyone to use on their builds. The MySense Rom that are customized like I/G are modified variants of the current ROM. They didn't build a fresh ROM they just edited T-Mo's.
3) Most phones will have shuttle sound to prevent people from taking pictures that aren't warranted, or taking "certain" pictures that people are unaware of. you can delete the .ogg file for the sound to perm-remove that sound if you should so choose to do so. i believe it's in the /system/media/audio/ui file.
Swype may be available to you, through swype.com's Beta program, if it is still active:
http://beta.swype.com
jggimi...I tried that download and it didnt work. However, I found another app that does the same thing as Swype...this one is called "SlideIT Keyboard" its a app u have to pay or find a beta....but it does work I have it running on CM7
Hope this helps
Brian

This guy hit the nail on the head. CM7 is a AOSP project ROM.
I bet your Maps, Email, Google Talk, Market, and some other little ones are missing.
Download the G/apps from Cyanogen and flash them, after a wipe and you should be good to go.
I believe my post was just hijacked....get out and start your own thread....Lol
Anyways...Aside from the swype issue...any ideas on how I can get back the "genius" feature. Please it would be very helpful.
Thanks

please delete or lock this thread. it doesnt make sense anymore.
the biggest problem i had with the XXJPM was the battery drain so i switched to XWJPF which i think is a recent release but i am not so sure. i did not have any issues with the GPS but the sound lag was there when the screen is on sleep mode.
i installed the fugumod kernel and set the minimum core speed to 333 so it does not fall below that. and never had any sound issues and sound was great too. u can also set the core to performance (OC 800 kernel version and the speed stays at 800 all the time) but that will drain your battery in no time. just my experience
i tried kyrillos and its an awesome ROM, the only con was that i could not change themes. i am yet to try the INDROID but as always i dont like a lot of apps in any custom ROM so i remove them. kyrillos only had a few but looks like indroid has a whole load of em
i'd like to see someone build a rom with the
original theme (but able to install themes)
basic apps
newer market
newer map app
deodexed
a2sd
lagfree
CWM recovery
5 lockscreen mod
and all the function that comes with building a custom rom
the rest can be achieved with a custom kernel i guess
this would be awesome!!!!
p.s. the dev's at xda are doing an awesome job keeping us happy, they deserve a lot more than thank you's and i believe we are here today coz the devs here are doing something extraodinary thant the devs at samsung.
you guys are the best of the best.
hmm, interesting, a found a lot of people have trouble about clicking sound when making conversation. OC is ok, but.. why do that, processor itself will work how it must, i mean, if overclock it will drain too much battery, if underclock it will be slow. i only expirienced delay problem when receiving incoming call, it's a little bit slow, but else is ok.
today i got official upgrade for my galaxy 3. it was jp9, 2.2, not 2.2.1. i have problems now with back button when in contacts and when unlocking the phone. i have to press back or menu key few times to turn on the screen, but home key works fine. strange thing.. why they put bugged version of froyo to official update over kies..

I agree with Clarkkov..I too have been using XXJPM for about 2 months now & there are no problems..the battery life is great..I easily get 3 days usage on a full charge. The 2 small issues I saw are:
1. Camera app. sometimes crashes.
2. Back button does not work in Contacts app., you have to click Home button to close it.
Does XXJPN resolve these issues..?

The camera thing is a known issue (there is also a fixed camera.apk without that problem in the apps section). It has to do with gps/location as it tries to geotag the pictures you take.
I also can't confirm the back-buttons issue. I've been running XXJPM for a while and back button works just fine! Try a wipe (or at least clear cache) and see if that makes a difference...

If yes kill the Contacts app ,and add again the shortcut in your launcher by long-pressing the icon.
Now when you open the app it must work normally.

Ok peeps, here is another great rom for you to play with.
For those who dont know what the Android Open Kang Project is:
http://aokp.co/
This rom strives to utilize the best hacks and mods of all roms and put them into one great build.
It was built by me, but it is coded by a wonderful crew of smart people and it performs quite well.
It features many nice addons:
* customized lockscreen with color changing for the text and a nice weather widget plus more
* customize navigation bar, Navbar hiding for NBA JAm and other phone Ui games and apps
* color theming for the navbar, along with the ability to add navbar buttons which you can set to do what you want
Basically, tons of stuff. I recommend flashing and going to settings>Rom Control and just spending about thirty minutes seeing all the things you can do.
On my end, I have tried to remove what we dont need for some extra RAM. I changed up the teamdrh device overlays to suit this ROM. modified build.prop for gameloft compatibility, applied Nobe's fixes for hdmi audio and gaming audio. Various other things to get it working well.......
This is still a work in progress!!!!
Many thanks to teamdrh for the "OEM device support"
Many thanks to Fosser for his kernel
Many thanks to the AOKP crew for such a great ROM
****INSTALL INFO*******
1. Use teamdrh nvflash for Jellybean - the 350meg prep
2. Wipe data/ factory reset
3. connect to PC, copy rom, and Flash away
ENJOY!
Known Issues:
Stock launcher has shortcut issues, YOU WILL NEED A DIFFERENT ONE. I left it alone so you guys could just use what you want. I recommend Nova Launcher, this is the one AOKP uses on official builds, but again, I left it alone so you could decide, but you will not be disappointed with Nova.
AOKP has their own wallpapaers, the app would not retrieve them though, still looking into this
Internal Camera, of course, NOT YET!
Others? please....you tell me. I dont have a dock, and I dont do many of the things that others do, so there may be issues that I have not yet uncovered. I dont care about logcats or whatever, just post what dont work if you find something. THANKS!
YOU MUST GO THANK ANY MEMBER OF THE AOKP CREW, AS WELL AS TEAMDRH. THEY MAKE THIS POSSIBLE.

Okay, I've found how to add more buttons, which does squeeze them together. However, I only want three buttons (back, home, recent apps) and squeezed together on the lower left. Is there a way to do that? If I make the other buttons empty, there are still icons showing that there are buttons there, just that pressing them won't do anything.
All settings for this are in settings>ROM control>navigation bar
At the bottom where it says "combined bar width port" or "land" you move slider left or right and the buttons will move, you most likely want 5 percent, do both but "land" is landscape. If you just want three buttons then just choose 3 under "Nav button quantity". And if you want more, up to 7 then in the settings just underneath the quantity you must choose what the buttons do for a short press and a long press if you want. You can change the icons too.
I'm actually liking this ROM the most so far out of the Jelly Bean ROMs. It's pretty lean. It performs well. There are a lot of options. And every app I've tried on it has worked.
Here is something weird. I flashed this ROM on my wife's tablet and everything works with it. So I decided to flash it on my tablet and some apps, like Dictionary.com, aren't compatible. Any ideas why this would be?
