I just rooted my phone with the one click root and now I'm trying to flash clockwork mod onto my phone so I can flash the froyo ROM and a new theme but every time I click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" it gives me an error saying that an error occurred while downloading your recovery. I even tried to use older versions and I get the same error. What am I doing wrong? I'd really like to use froyo.
Download the second file linked in this post.
Extract, place update.zip on SD card. Using Odin, place the .tar file in the PDA section and flash.
Where can I download Odin? And where do I get the .tar file?

Odin can be downloaded from here - link 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
tar is in the zip on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
The .tar file is in the zip you extract...
Odin can be found here.
Since you are placing the update.zip on your SD card, you don't have to flash with ROM Manager
I would recommend reading through the beginners guide which is stickied at the top of the general thread which covers rooting, odin, CWM, ROMS etc.; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897889.
Alright, well I used Odin and flashed that .tar file and I'm still getting an error from clockworkmod. Any other suggestions?
Did you put the update.zip on your sd card? You shouldn't need to do anything with rom manager.
Edit: Further instructions... Place update.zip on root of SD card, flash .tar with Odin using PDA, boot into stock 2e recovery (blue) and apply:update.zip, which should take you into new red cwm

I did all of that and I got a message that says it failed to verify whole-file signature, and that the installation aborted. I guess my phones just not to be rooted....
Wait, are you not rooted? You'll need to be rooted first to install CWM.
No, I'm rooted. I used the one click root. I can use rooted apps such as ad free android, cache cleaner and Titanium Backup. I have the superuser app in my app drawer. I just need to be able to get clockworkmod to work so I can flash some themes and the froyo rom that was leaked.
OK, let's troubleshoot here...
You have done the following:
1. Download Odin, cwm_froyo-odin.zip
2. Extract cwm_froyo-odin.zip, place update.zip on root of SD card
3. Power phone down, remove battery
4. Open Odin, hold volume down and plug in USB to enter download mode
5. Select PDA and place cwm_froyo.tar and flash
6. Upon finish, replace battery, hold both volume buttons down and power on until you enter stock recovery (blue)
7. Apply:update.zip to enter red recovery
You're doing all these steps and still having a problem?

Yes, I did all of that just as you mentioned. Is it safe to go over them one more time? Or is it bad to keep flashing that file to my phone?

Did you flashed via PDA in ODIN?
Then, did you install the ClockWork Recover mod via ROM Manager?
Yes, I flashed via PDA in ODIN.
As far as "install" CWR in ROM Manager .. not sure. I Flashed CMR successfully and granted SuperUser permission.
Is there more?
BTW .. thanks!

OK. Try this.. put the update.zip found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470 into the root of your SD card.
Use in ROM Manager select "Boot into Recovery"..
By the way, you don't apply the update.zip when you use Boot Into Recovery from ROM Manager. It does that automatically already.
If you see the green recovery, then you are in CWMR.
You only apply the update.zip if you are in the stock recover (BLUE)...
Thank you.
I did as you said and put the update.zip file on my sd card.
I used ROM Manager and Booted into Recovery. It automatically put me into stock recovery (blue) and gave me the same error. I selected apply update.zip and same error. I guess I am just not meant to have it.

Hmmm.. What Build version are you running? DH12? DL05? DL09? DL30?
Did you make sure you could open the the .tar file you flashed in ODIN? What about the .zip? Make sure you can open both of them via 7zip, to verify that you are not corrept.
Try flashing the .tar file again in ODIN, via PDA (of course)..
dl09 .. Really all I want to do is flash the dl30 .. Fml

I keep getting the same error but I have not seen a good answer yet. I tried to follow the guide by Syn Ack but I can not get past step 2. I get the error E: failed to verify whole-file signature...I have clockworkmod, I ran "Flash ClockWork Recovery" and choose the Fascinate. I also tried "Apply sdcard:update.zip" when I got the E:failed error. What am I missing? I read everything above. I am on DL09, rooted.
Turns out all the .tar files on this site are corrupt .. I found cwmrecovery.tar elsewhere and flashed that and it worked fine.

Did you flash the .tar file with ODIN via PDA??
yes, I reflashed odin by pulling the battery, holding down volume button and plugging in usb cable. Everything worked fine after that.
So I am not to NOOB but I sure acted like it last night when I was way tired and tried to flash a ROM. Here is what I did...
I didn't catch that I didn't have the CWM but that I had booted into the stock recovery tool... Well I didn't before it was to late that is...
I clicked WIPE DATA
I clicked WIPE CACHE
Then noticed there was no "install from SD"
So it seems like whatever I find to install from ODIN I can't get the CWM to install so I can then flash a ROM!
I need my phone up for work, I am in HOT SH!T!
How can I either flash a rom via stock recovery "update format" OR install CMW via ODIN?
PLEASE HELP ASAP!!
Thank you
why don't you just flash again via odin and then root your phone via odin as well?
Don't quite understand whats your problem. So what if you wiped data and cache the rom is still there. Reboot normally and flash cfroot according to your firmware and then you should have cwm up and running. After that flash desired rom and the end.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Flash one of the CF-Root kernels through Odin, whichever one matches the firmware you're running. They have CWM baked in, along with root so you can flash a ROM afterwards.
If you can't get into download mode, turn your phone off, plug it in and hold down + power + home and it should boot into download mode. Then you can flash with Odin.
I thought the same thing, that so what that I wiped them... but when I rebooted the phone it just sits at the "Rethink possible screen"
I can get into download mode and I did find the "cf" post but I dunno what kernel I am running as I can't boot to go into settings to seek.
if you in recovery mod choose reboot, and it will be ok, than read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399,
or put in download mod: turn your phone off, hold down + power + home. Then flash with Odin.
I know you probably don't want to, but you can try doing a factory reset, that should allow you to get your phone up and running. If you have gmail installed it should put all your contacts back, as long as you backed up to gmail.
If you have an old copy of titanium backup you won't loose ALL your apps, this is why I tend to back up every weekend, I'm only a week behind with everything if problems arise....
Cheers...

like I said, I am not a noob, just made a mistake...
I found the cf-kernel page, but I dunno what kernel I am running and so I dunno what kernel to flash (It seems vital)
"just rebooting" don't work lol I wish... it hangs at the "rethink possible" boot screen...
I was rooted but running the stock rom, if I can get CWM installed I think I will be golden, but whatever I seem to flash from ODIN don't work :-( no matter what nothing will flash as "PDA" but when I flash using "phone" it seems to install "zimage" which is the embedded file and succeeds and phone reboots... but still only to the rethink possible point.
flash any stock firmware then flash supercore 2.0 and do whatever you want from there
Think i know what the problem is,i have same issue sometimes, try flashing anogher rooted Kernel through odin, make sure its like if the rom is a kj3 that it has a kj3 kernel.see if that works

been in similar, if not same situation, things were missing from cwm recovery, like you wrote...if memory serves me fine,
flash stock fw with pit, repartition and everything...
then some rootec kernel with recovery...
Oh sh!t... just flashed the pit file here... http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-with-odin/#download-a-pit-file-for-the-i9100

Not responding at all now :-(
let's go in a safe way...as long as you have download mode, you're OK.
Go to samfirmware or somewhere on XDA and find FULL STOCK FIRMWARE with proper .pit file and flash it with odin. Not kernel, not anything that is not full rom.

Forgive my noobishness. I've actually lurked xda boards for years and used the EXCELLENT user made guides for all my phones. However, I'm at a complete loss and nothing I've searched, read, or tried has worked and it's consumed my entire day and left me with no phone at all. I cannot believe this phone can be dead unless there's some physical problem so I'm really hoping someone can walk me back to normal.
I bought a new S4 from T-Mobile on Labor Day (obviously I'm in the US). 2 days ago I rooted it successfully using Jimmy Mcgee's video and the various links including mattlgroff's and k0nane's threads. No problems whatsoever. After I did that I used Ti Backup and backed up the apps just in case, then I ran the moderate version of the Truly Clean script and did a factory reset. Everything was perfect. Then...
My wireless data stopped connecting. But that's not my current problem.
I decided to unroot and go back to factory to a) see if something I did was causing the data issue or b) take it back for an exchange at the store. I started with the K0nane and the Samersh72 guides, but frankly tried so many things and failed I don't know were I went wrong. First I tried M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5
Then I tried Samsung-Updates.com-KERNEL-SGH-M919-TMB-M919UVUAMDL-1366964131.tar
Then I tried the one I did to root it OUDHS-Recovery-jfltetmo-1.0.3.3.tar
Mostly I have gotten a NAND writing fail in Odin with everything I tried (yes I tried making sure Kies is off, the original usb cable, and another PC) which then locks me out of the recovery boot screen and gives me some yellow triangle between a phone and a pc with an error about the stock firmware and tells me to connect to Kies. I can fix that by flashing this PIT file CSB_signed_Fusion3_EUR_0325_V2.pit which allows me to go back to the OUDhs recovery screen.
Also Kies will no longer connect to this device and it says driver install failure when I connect it to the PC (except it stell charges, using the stock cable still).
Dear god someone help me, and I will buy you a beverage. I'm doing instant email notifications of replies. PLEASE.
I'm not sunk yet. I'm rereading the FAQs and guides and I'm going to start over to where I was able to get the rooted version to work. I know the CWM recovery is working so we'll see.

I am getting a little farther in the Odin process but it still says fail right after
aboot.mbn
Also I originally followed Jonny's video and only flashed the cwm custom recovery though odin. I flashed the rooted zip file from my phone's internal sd card like in the video. Now I can't get to the internal memory so I tried saving the zip file (the one I used to root it) on the ext sd card. I'm unable to flash that rooted zip from the ext sd card because the phone wants to reboot as soon as it starts doing so.
Is there a way to flash that rooted zip file (or a stock one) from an external sd card?
Is there a way to flash that rooted zip file through odin?
All you have to do is get into download mode and flash stock mdl tar with odin. After it's finished, it'll go into recovery by itself and wipe some small cache partition by itself, after it does that, hold onto the volume up button and get into recovery again and do a factory reset. This is so you don't go into a bootloop. Now get CF auto root and flash it so ur rooted. Next flash a custom recovery and ur all set. It's really easy to do.

Yes. Also when it fails, it locks me out of the recovery mode. Can you tell me what happens when you flash a new PIT file? Doing that alone does not get a FAIL message and it brings back the recovery screen. However, when I select the pit file it automatically selects the re-partition option which the k0nane says is a no-no (at least for flashing the pda, not sure about the pit which is why I'm asking).

Pit file basically means repartitining the storage chip of your device. Yes odin will automatically check repartition when flashing pit files. Flashing pit file is serious business. I recommend following the unbrick/ unroot thtead in the general section. Its pretty precise and I think since you are getting repeated fails in odin you will have to flash pit file.
You will be fine if you follow the instructions there precisely.

OMG it worked. K0nane's procedure worked on a different pc. Dowloaded a fresh Kies but didn't install any of the extra stuff with it. Downloaded, extracted, and ran odin as admin. Hooked it up. Downloaded and extracted the UVUAMDL tar. Put that in the pda box and hit start. Mine would immediately FAIL but this one kept working, and working, and working and reboote. Why why why? I've been at this for about 16 hours. That makes no sense. Thanks anyway. I'll try the other root method when I'm feeling brave again.
Hello all!
First off I would just like to say thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been a long time lurker on these forums (since the evo) and have gotten a lot of useful information from here. Now to my issue. I have had no phone for two weeks now, and have been doing search after search. I upgraded my phone to 4.3 (it was mk2) and rooted it via motochopper. So my dumbass tried to flash a custom rom with kn0x0ut and it failed. The phone rebooted and now will boot up to the samsung custom screen. You can hear the att boot up sound but no image. I can get into odin mode and stock recovery. When I am in odin it says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1

eMC BURST MODE enabled
I have tried sideloading the stock MJ9 and MK2 files to no avail. I really hope somebody can help me, I don't know how much longer i can go without a phone. Thanks guys and Merry Christmas!!!
yea sounds like bricked you cant flash roms on 4.3 yet take it to best buy that has a samsung center and just tell them samsung sent you here because my phone all of a sudden was acting up and they will flash it back to factory for you thats what i had to do

OK, If you're stuck with an incomplete flash, here are some steps you can try to get to MJ9...
These instructions assume you started with MJ6.
First, make sure you can boot into recovery. If not, download and apply the MJ6 recovery.
recovery-mj6.tar.md5
It should apply without error. If not, report the failure.
Download and extract the following files...
mf3-emergency-part-1.tar.md5.7z
mf3-emergency-part-2.tar.md5.7z
If you don't already have it, download the mf3-mj9 update file...
update-mf3-mj9.zip
Start Odin, connect your phone and boot into Download mode.
Flash mf3-emergency-part-1.tar.md5 which contains modem.bin, NON-HLOS.bin and system.img.ext4.
The flash of system.img.ext4 WILL FAIL at the end. That's OK.
Reboot the phone back into Download mode and restart Odin.
Flash mf3-emergency-part-2.tar.md5 which contains cache.img.ext4.
The flash WILL FAIL at the end. That's OK.
The phone should now reboot to recovery by itself and apply a small update. If it fails, stop and report.
The phone should now reboot to a black screen with the pulsing notification LED.
Reboot into recovery mode and flash update-mf3-mj9.zip. I recommend sideloading instead of flashing from sdcard because the sdcard method reboots the phone whether the update was successful or not and you lose the error messages.
Reboot the phone and let it initialize.
You should now have MJ9.

I was on MK2 using the 3.7 beta of SS when I couldn't get it to boot anymore. Tried the modified method outlined above, everything worked except after step 7, it never rebooted to recovery on it's own and installed a small update. Decided to try Kies, says it can do emergency firmware recovery but it hasn't worked yet. Any help would be appreciated as I'm not sure I can get the handset replaced since I got it at Walmart.
It may not automatically reboot into recovery, just make it.

No Idea if this makes any difference but, pay close attention to the process at least until the sideloading of the update.
Do not let the device attempt to boot with this firmware mismatch as this may cause issues. (This is the only conclusion I can come to as this process does work)
If the device automatically reboots then press and hold volume up to enter recovery or volume down to enter download mode.
If manual reboot or powering on then press and hold volume up or down respectively then press power until the device starts and release power button to avoid a reset.
SOLVED!!!
Thank you so much @dolph8886!!!1 You are the BEST!!! :good: :victory: :highfive:

ok here it goes i tried to flash twrp using goo but now i have no stock recovery can someone help me please im on mk2 running 4.3 and rooted
So
I have been struggling a couple of hours with this issue: Trying to root my samsung galaxy s4 i 9505, with three different odin versions (now last tried v.1.85) and both CWM and TWRP. I finally managed to get a pass from odin, but whenever I go into recovery mode on my phone, I am at the stock recovery "page", saying Android recovery on the top. Which must mean that I am not rooted.
I have no idea what to do, anyone there with some tricks up their sleeves?

1. Reflash Stock Rom.
2. Root your phone with latest version of ODIN following this GUIDE or you can:
- Download and unzip this FILE in your pc.
- Take your device in DOWNLOAD MODE.
- Flash it via ODIN.
3. Install SUPERSU of Play Store app if you don't see it in desktop of your device.
4. Reboot in DOWNLOAD MODE and flash TWRP via ODIN. Your phone will reboot or reboot manually.
5. Done, your have root and custom recovery installed. Good luck :highfive:

Cheers for your reply, unfortunately I haven´t gotten longer than the first step. I try to flash stock rom, but it seems like i need a pit file and i cannot find a working one anywhere around the internet. Is there some way to find the pit file stored in my phone? Or another place where I can find a working pit file other than the one called CSB_signed_Fusion3_EUR_0325_V2?
Edit: Now I successfully reflashed stock rom and installed CWM recovery. Problem is that whenever I try to flash a rom I get the message "installation aborted".
What to do?
