Does anyone know if wired tether for 4g is in the works? I use wired tether so I can charge my phone at the same time.
What rom are you using? At least with sense roms just delete system/lib/libnativetask.so and it'll work. At least it does for me. Maybe just rename it to be safe. I used root explorer.

That our just flash a different ROM. I don't have 4G in my area but I saw that there is a CM7 build with working 4G and I can do wired tether with my phone on 3G so I would imagine that it would work with 4G once it comes out of beta
EasyTether allows 4G wired tethering.
I use wireless tether for root and charge my phone via usb cable off my laptop. Use 4g and never have problems with battery draining. Not that this answers your question at all but just saying. Oh and I get 4-5 mb/s down on the laptop as well this way.

Thanks for the help. Is there a way to get 4G to work with that? I remember seeing a thread about fixing USB tethering but I cant seem to find it..
I'm currently using that USB Tethering Fix and it works great...
Actually this was posted from a laptop tethered to my phone, with a USB cable, one limitation as far as I know is that USB tethering doesn't seem to work with 4G, it causes 4G to disconnect, at least on the ROM that I'm running. So I'm looking for a fix for that, but it works great on 3G. I use Wireless Tether for 4G.
I'm running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo
If 4G doesn't work, I'd rather use EasyTether. A bit more nuisance and if you want https you have to buy it, but I like getting 5Mb download in my office where otherwise 16 of us have to all share a single 1.5Mb connection.
wired tether is the king. it sneaks the internets straight from the sky to my phone to my computer. wireless tether and pda.net gets the internets from the sky and brags about it to my phone, gets whupped, and ends up all slow. android wired tether is cool with my phone, but my phone will only let it peddle the three gs to my computer. my phone wants to keep the four gs to itself, unless you slip $30 to its boss for that really hot stuff.
Title says it all folks. Who here is using an Epic, rooted and tethering just fine via USB? Only one catch....without using PDAnet or other third party apps. Just the phone.
Thanks in advance.
I have no idea how to do this for the life of me, but why not stick with wifi tether? You can lock the phone or put on access control so only you can access it...

Because these phones heat up quite a bit when running a 4g radio, plugged into a charger, and the wifi radio. I want to tether via usb so that I'm getting power while I tether AND don't have to turn on the wifi radio.
Cut down on heat, increase the life of your battery and phone.
Besides that, it's a feature of the phone that I paid for and I want to be able to use it. Lol.

O BTW USB tether works just fine ;-)
Cool. Thanks for the tutorial here.
I've been trying to be nice about my data and pay for tethering through Sprint without rooting and doing wifi tether/usb but I'm finding that this Epic doesn't play nice with Mac and USB and there's a glitch which doesn't allow me to do 4g hotspot AND voice at the same time. Every time I get a voice call, the hotspot drops the 4g connection as if I was using 3g. ONce the call ends, the phone reconnects to 4g and continues on. I've brought both of these up to Sprint with no resolution as of yet.
is there any advantage using usb vs wifi? besides what you mentioned, but speed wise. is one faster than the other? or are they pretty much the same. i tether alot with wifi and i usually have my phone plugged into the wall charger whenever i do and notice it can get kinda hot sometimes. if there is no speed diff id prob go wired also

Speed is the same with 3g as for 4g I have no idea its not in my area :-(
Zulu have u tryed the wired tether app I linked to with a Mac? I'm going to have to test it on my friends macbook. I'm at my girls right now and the only pcs arond are both runing win7 32
I'm running SRF 1.2 w/Genocide 1.1. Earlier tonight, using qbking's excellent video, I used the Spring Hotspot hack. Everything worked perfectly and I can now wirelessly tether my Epic to my PowerBook G4. However, trying to do a wired tether is another story. Although my network preferences lists the Samsung SPH-D700, clicking "connect" doesn't seem to work. What happens is that it'll saying "connecting" for a few seconds, and then I'll get a pop-up reading: "Internet Connect A Modem error occurred. Please verify your settings and try again." Is there a proper way to configure the network preferences for this modem so that I can wire tether my Mac laptop to my Epic?
I tried using the USB Tether to share my phone's 4G internet connection with my laptop, but everytime I do that, it disconnects the 4G and turns on 3G.
Is it not possible to USB tether 4G?
Reason why I'm asking is because I noticed on avg a 1mbs drop in speed when sharing internet over wifi.
I do know that it works fine with easytether, but I'm not sure about pdanet or native.

4G and the stock evo usb tethering does not work. However pdanet works fine, but seems to limit speeds to ~4-5 mbps. Also, you need to install a client on the pc making use of it, not to mention having to pay if you want to access ssl sites.
Find wired tether on the market - it works well with usb without the speed limitation. Your pc detects the usb connection as a ndis connection. You will still need drivers, so include them on your sd card. Initially, setup the usb connection as disk drive so you can pull the drivers.
I've seen speeds peak as high as 12-13 mbps with usb tether during off peak times. Never seen speeds that high with wireless. Of course, for basic browsing, 4-5mbps is plenty.
+1 wired tether
Has this been fixed yet or how would go about making it work?

Doesn't work and messes up the built in tether. As far as I know if you've used the wireless tether, the only way to get the built in tether to work is to reflash.
Built in tether is located here:
Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks>Tethering and Hotspot.
Wireless Tether doesn't work...have to use the native tethering app, or use barnacle tethering.
Native tethering works.

I tried that says error

Can someone tell me what's the benefit of wireless tether over the native tethering?
I got the native tether to work thanx guys

^^What got it working again?
As far as WT being better, it has more options like being able to see who's connected and keep track of how much data you're using. But it doesn't work so it's not better
Wireless Tether will let you do so with 4G as well, native hotspot won't do 4G with the hack.
Wait, native tether doesn't do 4G? So I've been turning on 4G and tethering for nothing?
Is there a trick to getting the tether to work on 4g? I can connect but no data transfers to my laptop? 3g works just fine.
It works really well for me
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...ions-of-wifi-tether-app-for-evo-21-wont-work/
I didn't want to start another thread, so I'll post here.
Has this been remedied? The native tether hasn't worked for me either. I've wiped data/dalvik/cache and still nothing.
Suggestions?
No problem with mine. Maybe its just the 4g service?

...4g native wireless tether works for me on the last released nightly, however, is useless for me to use as it is constantly disconnecting ( I tether to xbox)...I have no problems with sense roms as I just got done with gears 3 for 4 hrs straight. If I switch back to cm7, it'll disconnect within 5 minutes...hope it gets fixed soon cus I reeaaalllyyy miss my cm...
4g tether works fine with a sense ROM, but I really like CM7. It's worked for the first day, then it stopped. Would get failed error codes. Wipe, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reflash CM7 reboot hasn't done anything to fix the problem.
I've tried wireless tether 2.0.5 --> 3.1
None have worked. They would start, but get hung up at (download) speed: .4kbs and .1kbs (upload)
Does your native tether turn on after 'wireless tether'? Mine does, so on the top notification bar it shows both running. But it doesn't connect.
I'd like to get back to using CM7 (my favorite so far) but I can't since using the tether is how I get internet access at home.
Have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046764
works for me ever since i did it.
Tether, 3G and 4G has always worked for me.
My S4 is on it's way and the one thing I think that's better on my old phone is the tethering options. I have an inspire 4G with AOKP 4.2.2 and I use bluetooth tethering for my nexus 7, I also use USB tethering for my laptop. Very rarely do I use Wifi. But I want to know how can I do bluetooth and USB. It's very important that I'm able to do this because I work online and sometimes my internet is less then reliable and have to rely on my phone occasionally. Once I root this mofo, How can I do this? What works what won't work. I'm tempted to do the alteration to wifi tether I saw in another forum using the S4's stock wifi tethering but I'm not sure if I can revert the phone back to normal. I mean if I **** it up can I just flash a stock rom in odin or what?
