Why is it so hard to sell my Evo? - EVO 4G General

So I recently got a new job and the company gave me a cell phone, so I no longer need my Evo, and I'm trying to save money, so I cancelled Sprint.
But selling this Evo has been so crazy hard to do. Anyone have any recommendations? I would really like to sell this guy to offset my ETF with Sprint.

how much
Sent from htc evo

$300 would be awesome, but I'm willing to accept offers if they are reasonable.

Craigslist and meet at a Sprint Store should work pretty fast. At $300 is a great price if it's almost new. I just paid $375 for a BNIB one off of Ebay.

Set up an Amazon Marketplace or Ebay, compare & 1 up the guy selling it the cheapest or autction it on Ebay.
EDIT: Highly recommend what the person above me said. That exactly is how I sold the Mogul, Diamond & the Hero.

where are you located?

Check with your employer on policies regarding personal use of the phone.
My employer has very strict policies against personal use of the company phone.
Swyped on my CM'D Evo using tapatalk!

I sell all of my old phones on eBay. I've sold 6 so far. The EVO will go for 300 in like 5 minutes.
The EVO you wish you had

True. I know a lot of people who got fired for sending steamy text messages or visiting porn websites.
If they gave you a Blackberry those are monitored on servers depending on the company you work for.

craigslist.org is what I use.. and very easy.. and free!!!

you wanna know why you cant sell it for $300? because of these:
1.) everyone has android
2.) alot of people already have an evo (like me)
3.) alot of people prefer verizon
4.) many people dont want to pay for 4g since not many places have it
5.) most people do what i do- wait for upgrade, and get it $400 of and get it brand new. $100 off what youre selling it for.
6.) some people want to hack verizon iphone onto sprint probably
7.) some people are waiting for a thunderbird on sprint with the tegra 2 processors (2 1ghz processors)
8.) like everyone above said: put it on ebay or craiglist. my dad sells random junk on it within a week all the time.

Well technically no you don't however now everyone who activates a "smart phone" pays the additional $10 for unlimited data.

Put good esn, also flashable to metro, boost, cricket

Man list that thing on Craigslist and it will be gone in a day! I sold one with a bad esn, non working screen and some scratches fr $100 on there! And yes, the buyer knew all this ^^, LOL

My area sucks. Sacramento is terrible. I've had it on Craigslist for about a week now with no bites. Maybe eBay is a better way to go.

i had my touch pro 2 on craigslist for 2 weeks.. with very little bites.
then someone wanted it... and paid my price - $15 discount.

Anyone know how much the Hero is going for in stores? I want to add one to my current plan. I have only been able to find it listed in a few places:
BestBuy - $99
Sprint - $250 (150 with M.I.B)
Radio Shack - Not sold
Wal-Mart - Not sold
Wirefly - Not sold
$99 from best buy is the lowest I found. Is that high?

Just tried that. There's no option to "add to current plan". I guess this is only for new users. That would of been a great deal!

My bad. I thought if you were adding a line to your contract it was a new line of service.
Here in Puerto Rico. In RadioShack it is Free.
I see them on craigslist for between $100 - $150. Why would you use an upgrade to get a Hero?
You can sometimes even find them for 75 or 80 on craigslist. Just make sure call Sprint to make sure the esn is clean before u hand over the cash.

I would never buy electronics off of craigslist, I can't count how many threads that start with "i bought this off of craigslist" and there suck in hboot or have bad esn. Buy it from the store, then you'll have the warranty.

it should be !lol sucks when new customers get better deals than loyal existing customers.
Amazon has a seperate wireless store (beta) that gives the option of upgrading or adding additional lines. For some reason Sprint is not part of the store. Supposed to be added "soon".
Sprint is selling refrub version online for $79.99 outright. Should be a better option than buying from craigslist or use your upgrade credit.

That's why when u buy off Craigslist u have them meet u at a Sprint store to check the esn, or u call sprint with the number. Ive bought plenty of phones (5) and computers (3) off ebay and everything was fine. I've saved enough money at this point that if I did get screwed one time I would still be ahead.
But to support ur point, obviously its not for everyone. If u don't know what u r doing, or r not very tech savy (in order to ask right questions or deal with problems that do arise - though I would assume most people on xda r at least moderately, if not very tech savy), buying from a normal store is better.

I think that the moral of this story is don't waste your upgrade getting a hero. Only get one from craigslist if you got balls of steel and know what your doing. If there is a refurbished phone from sprint for an outright price of 79 bucks get that. I'm sure it will have some kind of warranty.
I bought one from craigslist first of the guys story of I signed up for sprint but didn't like there service so I went back to at&t soon proved to be a lie when after a few minutes of talking to me he was trying to sell me four different phones from sprint. Everything worked great on the phone but when I got back home I noticed that the screen was dimmer than my other hero not much it was the only problem but it bothered the hell out off me. I ended up selling it for $125, 75 bucks less than What I paid for it.

[Q] How much for a mytouch 4g?

Ok so here is whats going on..
I live in Toronto and is using mobilicity(same frequency as T-mobile)
I currently have the mytouch 3g slide, i got it off the flee market.
I loved the phone so much and i have been reading about the mytouch 4g that i want to upgrade.
Now my question is where is the cheapest place to get a Brand New mytouch 4g unlocked?
I know T-mobile sometimes unlocks their phones for free but my question with them is that on their site i cant get the phone without a contract.
I am willing to drive to buffalo to an actual T-mobile store but what is their price on the phone with no contract?
Thanks in advance
Well that depends if you want new then I recommend buying from TMobile as you will have remorse and warranty without contract for 450+tax total 480 or so. Using website you can't order it as you have to call it in and order it via phone or go in to the local store. Now if you want to buy new or mint like conditions for cheaper price then try Craigslist or eBay which is selling for $350-400. You have higher chance of getting washed out display which you will have issues now if you don't care about it then just buy it. Far as unlocking goes you can do radio s=off yourself and sim unlock it.

Best phone yet hands down.
Well 350 is the avg price but the thing is what will you do when you get bad display?
Thanks a lot guys for clearing that up a bit for me.
I think i might go with buying a brand new one,
I'm the kind of guy who likes to have things from the start and since i don't see myself getting another phone for a while i think it will be better off to get it new
Cl for $250 new from a tmobile rep, was unopened when I purchased it. May try a costco or sams, im looking into a two year contract and can get another mytouch 4g, or g2 for 99

I've had a couple of chances to buy them off CL in barely used condition for $250ish, but average price seems to be about $300.
Ive looked in Craiglist around my area and the cheapest I've found was 400, i dont want to order from ebay because my visa is currently over due
for 400 i think id rather just buy it from T-mobile.
But once again thanks for tips and your thoughts

The best thing I like about CL is the false advertisement to lure folks in each threads by the seller. How they claim its new then when you go inside you see its used lol it can't be new (NIB) but its used morons. Don't waste your time with CL with 1st batch still out in large go pay the full price if money is not object for you or get it via EIP though tmobile I am guessing they have like 30-35 smaller payments.
Now I wouldn't mind buying it of CL year later but not even at that price as most idiots do want 350 for device that should be 150 due to time but they want the price they bought it for lol you have to love people who has 0 to no experience in sale department.

If you do your due diligence as a buyer and inspect the product it's fine. Just like buying a used car.
I bought a mt3g on CL for $200 and sold it on CL 9 months later with accessories for $200. Then a couple weeks later I picked up my gf's Captivate for $200 and in a year I'll probably sell it for $250.
I'm a perfectly straightforward and honest buyer and seller. Post a want ad to buy then post a sale ad to sell. This isn't rocket science.

I live in Toronto, theres probably only a few people selling around here and they want 400+ especially since "It's not out in Canada".
When i check buffalo and that area there are only a few low priced phone which are used and when i tried contacting them they where already sold.

How Do People Keep Getting New Phones?

theres alot of talk of switching from this phone to that, but how do they do it? My dad has always handled the purchasing and contract stuff with tmobile, so i dont know. Theoretically if i wanted to switch from my vib to the G2 (NEVER!), would i just sell my vibrant and buy the G2 at full price?
note: this is just an example, G2's are stupid (for me)
Buying the phone outright, at least on T-Mobile, will give you cheaper rates. Part of your monthly bill is to pay back the difference between what the carrier paid for the phone and the discounted price they sold it to you for. For example, my Evo cost Sprint about $450 to buy it from HTC, however in exchange for a higher bill, they can sell it to me for $200 and make back the money about halfway into my contract. Like I said, I think only T-Mobile will give you lower rates if you choose not to buy the phone at a discounted price from them.
So yes, people usually buy them outright or they buy them for cheap off of friends or idiots on craigslist. If you do the math, most of the time it would cost you less to buy the phone for the full price if it means lower service cost. But most people want instant gratification and think...well they don't think lol.
A job helps. I buy my phones outright because the get more plus plan does not give upgrades, but over the long term, it saves money.
me i actually wait until the store is closed and "let myself in" and its usually a alot of phones out on display.
If you did not buy the phone outright (i.e. as an upgrade for cheap), and wanted to sell it and buy a different phone used, would that cause a problem for your account? Or would it just be as easy as logging into your T-Mobile account and selected a different device for "my phone"?

Once you pay for it, it's yours. You can do whatever the hell you want with it. Sell it, destroy it, whatever. As long as T-Mobile's getting their money, it doesn't matter.

DEBO! lmao
IMHO, I'd say once a year is more than sufficient to upgrade your phone in terms of the technological jumps. Anymore than that seems like a waste of money. No one says you have to keep upgrading, its just a matter or preference. If you find a phone you love and works for you, stick with it. If you love having the cutting edge stuff and its worth it to you to spend the money, then by all means, spend spend spend.
a job and full price. lol. i haven't had a contract with tmob for like 4 years anyway...
but then again, i went from a g1 to the vibrant, but i typically get a new phone once a year. had a bb curve, wanted android and got the g1, cm wasn't cutting it on the g1 anymore, so i got the vibrant, when a substantially better phone comes out (dual core, better screen, honeycomb, etc), or the vibrant just isn't working for me i'll get a new one (likely the former).
that or my wife needs a new phone (she has a cliq...), so i may pawn my vibrant off on her and grab an sgs2 or vibrant 4g.
I have enormous piles of money all over my mansion. That's how.

If you don't have any connections, then the best way is to go on T-mobile's cheap plans and then buy the phones used from a site like ebay or craigslist.
The typical cost for a new-ish smart phone is going to be right around $300... so you are paying more than the $200-with-contract price that T-mobile charges.... but you break even on the extra cost in 5-6 months by avoiding the extra monthly cost for service on a contract (since you buy the phone without signing up for a contract).
You can also usually sell the old phone for ~$100 after you unlock it, and put that money towards your next upgrade.
Right now, I plan to see how the battery life on the dual core phones goes. If battery life is improved, then I will shoot for device running "Ice cream" or whatever comes after honeycomb.
If battery life still sucks, then I will keep my Vibrant (and the 3 spare batteries I have for it) in the short term and keep an eye out for cheaper plans
Im in a college town and I can get things cheap off craigslist. I bought my second vibrant for 120 brand new with accessories. Just got an hd7 for 150 and ive bought 4 hd2 plus a couple broken ones from 40-150.

Not really. All it takes is a brain. T-Mobile is addicted to promotions. I just upgraded my Vibrant to a HD7 for $200.
Free Online Promotion:
1. Order HD7 from T-Mobile as an Add-a-Line for $0 (they waive the Activation Fee) with a $15 Data Plan and Insurance.
2. Swap the SIMs in the Vibrant and HD7s.
3. Wait 2 Weeks.
3a. Sell the Vibrant for $200+
4. ETF the Line you added when you got the HD7 (it's using your older SIM*).
5. Total Price: $200 (Price of the phone for a new customer).
* You will still qualify for upgrade pricing when you would have if you had kept the Vibrant, because you still have the Vibrant SIM, you ETF'd the new SIM instead
If you're on T-Mobile, watch the promotions and wait. The only time you should feel like you have to get a new phone early is if you've been burned with an earlier purchase - like many [US] Galaxy S users feel they were.

The newer 360s aren't White, they're black.
Unless you meant a newer white 360 that isn't guaranteed to fail on you sooner or later?

The white ones... I wouldn't spend anything on them.

yeah, you could do that. but you pay more monthly on a contract plan than a no contract plan. plus, if i have a problem with something (or want to go to a contract for a phone), tmob is much more receptive to what i want when i'm off contract (and they check how long i've had service with them).
and i think you mean cancel the new sim/line and pay the etf on that. otherwise you lose future upgrade capability on the existing line. you physically swap the sim card between the two phones, but you cancel the sim that came with the <new phone line>. sim cards can't be reused, so you wouldn't be able to make your old sim use the new line's number and i'm pretty sure a sim has to be associated with a line.
why wait 2 weeks and why buy insurance? or is the two weeks to make sure the imei of the new phone takes for insurance (i don't have phone insurance, it's pointless)?
the hd7? that's a downgrade... and 'get a new phone early'? two years (22 months) between new phones is ridiculous, or at least is for any smartphone. once a year is about right with how technology is moving on phones.
i'm much happier just paying full price than doing some 'activate new line, call and ***** they didn't waive the activation fee, make sure the imei transfered for insurance, cancel line, pay more each month, etc.' dance.

That depends on where you live. Since this is the Vibrant forum I'll assume we're talking T-Mobile...
Not many people around here have T-Mobile, and their coverage is worst than Boost and Virgin so there are probably more people on Boost than on T-Mobile. Trying to sell a T-Mobile phone here won't get you anywhere.
Plus, the Value of these phones have gone down quite a bit.
Most people don't really see a point in buying a phone at off-contract prices, or anything close, because even if you buy at contract price and ETF 2 weeks later, the phone is cheaper.
So I rather buy on contract knowing I'm not poor and can ETF at any time on T-Mobile than buy a $500 phone and act like I'm better off because I'm off-contract.
$499 off contract, or $199 (with rebats) + $200 ETF fee two a few weeks later to end the contract?
Don't see a point in paying those prices for off-contract phones...
The contract prices only matter if you stay on the contract the entire time, but it's ALMOST ALWAYS cheaper to buy at contract price and ETF on T-Mobile later, than to buy an off-contract phone. You're actually throwing money away if you buy it off-contract.
That is precisely why AT&T and Verizon raised their ETF prices up about $100 bucks. To make the contract price + ETF = retail price. T-Mobile still hasn't, so it's cheaper to buy on contract and ETF break the contract after the first two weeks or month (depending on if you're waiting on rebates).

Trade in your old mobile phone at Tmobile for credit towards new purchase!!

http://phandroid.com/2011/05/17/tra...and-get-credit-towards-a-new-one-at-t-mobile/
I will be looking at this program when i turn in my vibrant for a sg2 or i may trade it or sell it on craigslist but the program does seem very cool. check out the details above. The reason for this program they say is that the lifespan for most phones isnt very long and this will help with the big bill of the new high end smart phones.
WHAT DO U THINK?
I'd rather sell my phones than give them to carriers. You won't get the same money you would from a sale when you trade in.
It's like selling a used car. You'll get more in a private sale, but giving it to the dealer is easier. I'll stick to craigslist.
yea like he said ^^
its like giving your car to a dealer. its worth $5,000 but he's going to give you $2,000 for it for a trade, so that he can resell it for $6,000 and make a profit.
Same goes here. Say a vibrant is worth $350 in goood condition on ebay.
butttt doubt they'd give you more than say 125 to 150. they do it for profit, and to bring ppl from other service providers.
never the less, theres always ppl out there that will be more than willing to trade it because they dont know any better. haha. Dont get me wrong, it is a good idea for not only T-Mobile, but for those ppl out there that just want a new phone and dont care for their old one or what happens with it once they get a new one. Or even ppl who are coming from other providers and just dont want their old phone.
personally, I keep all my phones. In case of an emergency, or just to have it to play with. If i get the SGSII, I'm totally keeping my Vibrant to keep playing with it, give it to my gf, or just sell it for a good price on ebay.
They estimated $110 for my mint Vibrant on the website. Better off with craigs
For what it's worth, I just recently bought a used Vibrant on craigslist for $150 and it is immaculate. It seems like an OK idea for simplicity, but I personally wouldn't do it for the same reason I won't sell my car to CarMax.
There going after the consumer that either doesn't care or is lazy. $110 for a mint Vibrant is definately low IMO and I'm thinking you would get more on EBay or CL.

I agree I think that is low, but I think theybwould offer more for non T-Mo smartphones because they be would be getting a new customer, where they are just keeping you if they give you $110, thus no real new income or new customer. Someone should check to see what they offer for a Fascinate or Captivate, and see if they offer more for them.

Well the other thing is they offer a max of 300 which according to the masses who don't know how great a phone these are technically they have released several phones that were expected to compete or be greater than the vibrant since last year, even though quality and hardware is not really improved try a newer phone a couple months old, might get better amount. But i agree the vibrant is awesome and worth much more than that

What do they do with the phones? I've never seen them sell used phones. Sell them online as refurbished?

T-Mobile wont sell them, they are using a third party to do this, who will clean them up and either sell them to someone like Assurion or the carriers where the phones originally came from.

Get the Facts Presently Gazelle is offering $157.00 for the phone if it is in perfect shape and about 20.00 less for one less than perfect. That means if Tmobile is offering 120-130 for immediate trade-in or you can wait 15 days and get 15-20 bucks more for your phone.......... or try to sell online @ Ebay or Craigslist
Those are the facts as of today....... It is an ok deal like all phone carriers their deal are not bad..rarely great..... just OK
I asked a T-mobile employee at the Mall Of America and at a T-Mobile store downtown Minneapolis and they both said they'd only give me 80$ towards a different phone.

[Q] Where should I sell my Evo

Okay so after much debate I'm looking to Upgrade to the Evo 3D. Really, after going to my local radio shack, they informed me that Sprint will allow me to upgrade early (only for a limited time) and therefore I can get the Evo 3D. In addition, they said I could sell them back My Evo and I could get up to $150 back. So my question is, should I sell it back to them, or would I get even more money if I went and sold it someplace else like Ebay?

I'd try craigslist. They seem to be going for $175-200. my brother sold his just the other day (upgraded to a 3D) for 175 cash on craigslist.
Your best bet would be ebay or Craigslist, but be prepared to wait a while for it to sell unless you sell it with plenty of accessories. The flood of EVO4Gs on ebay is pretty crazy, also try wireless toyz.

Okay thanks. Yeah the accessories I have for it will be the standard case, charger battery and that's it. Maybe I'll try Ebay first.

Okay...sorry to sound a little naive, but how would you go about selling it on Criagslist, I never sold anything on there before. Also...at what point should I have it deactivated? I'm just wondering because I'm thinking of the process.
1. Buy EVO 3D (still end up paying $200 upfront)
2. Sell HTC EVo (reimburse myself with whatever I made from the sell)
or
1. Sell HTC Evo to radioshack
2. Buy EVO 3D, only end up paying about $50 upfront.
Well Craigslist is pretty easy, you just go to like post or something, I haven't done it in a while but be sure to post pictures along with it, and a way to contact you.

Well the guy just said, until the 31st of this month, sprint will allow to push your upgrade date. I don't know if that applies to phones other than the 3D
Well sprint isn't very generous when it comes to upgrades, especially two yr upgrades, but I know they usually give you a two week advance of any upgrades, they tried doing this to me when I moved from a hero to my EVO a couple of weeks ago but I bought my EVO from a friend for 120. Saving my upgrade for the next best thing after this whole 3vo thing gets better and more stable.
