Having problems flashing anything to my phone - Fascinate General

I am running DL09, everything is stock. I rooted my phone, and flashed cwm via odin. Then I installed cwm from the market and from cwm flashed recovery. Via cwm i tried to flash an updated version of cwm, but it didn't work, then I tried to flash the leaked dl30 - it also didn't work. everytime i try to flash anything, i get the following error message:
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed installation aborted.
the top of the screen (when i boot into recovery from the rom manager) says
Android system recovery (2e)
Samsung recovery Utlis
- for BML -
also, when I try to select anything, it only recognized the home soft key as enter.
my only options are
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
what has gone wrong?

I have the same problem. Adrynalyn said something about dl09 being sneaky and killing the cwm loader, so the first boot after running odin we are supposed to flash a clean kernel... I haven't tried it yet, been busy, but I will this weekend before flashing froyo.

I had the same blue text screen with those for options this morning when looking to wipe batt stats. I went ahead and selected the sdcard option, and next thing I know I'm looking at the gen text again with the complete list of options. Maybe try that?
Mmmmm...Froyo!

Trouble loading roms...

Okay I have been using theunlockr's site in conjunction with xda and droidforums to learn about rooting and such over the last month. I have been rooted for a week or so now and have been enjoying wireless tether and setcpu, but thats about it. I want to do more, ie a custom rom. So I got DL09 Super Clean 's .zip on my sd card, and went into Rom Manager and Flashed Clockworkmod Recovery, then reboot into recovery. I keep getting stone walled here. It says;
failed to verify whole file signature
signature verification failed
installation aborted
then at the top I have the options to;
reboot system now
apply sd card update.zip
wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache partition
I tried a factory reset then re installed Rom Manager, seeing as super user was still in my app draw I didn't re root. What am I doing wrong? I know you guys hate people like myself but I'm at a loss.
CWM isn't fully installed. See what step you might have missed.
For DJ05 or DL09 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470
For DI01 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
good day.
another quick question. When selecting update.zip from recovery the screen goes blank and the soft keys light up, how long should I have to wait for something to happen?
If you are in CWM recovery (green text).
Back or power = select (home will black screen but tap home again to turn back on)
Search = Back
To flash a rom/kernel/or theme you will use the "install zip from sdcard' option in CWM.
In stock recovery (blue text)
Home = select.
good day.
Your the man! Thanks!

Wildfire freeze on startup logo

Heeelp....
Hi, i root my wildfire with sucess but i canĀ“t instal any rom, and i tried to fix permissions with "root tool.apk". Restart the phone and its freeze on logo in a white background.
I already try recovery, wipe factory and nothing......any ideas please.
Sorry for inglish
When you do a Wipe in Clockworkmod, it is different from a factory reset, and obviously, you will have to flash a ROM after it. Trying to reboot your phone after Wipe Data will result in a frozen start logo.
After you do a wipe, select Install Zip from SDCard, and select the ROM's ZIP file, which you want to install.
NOTE: If you have Clockworkmod 3.x, you can only install Gingerbread ROMs, and, if you have Clockwork 2.x, you can only install Sense / Froyo ROMs

I trie like you say but no sucess. Give a error message;
"E:failed to verify whole-file signature"
"E:signature verification failed"
I had install "root tool.apk" to try fix permissions because of clockworkmod was not properly installed. gave errors

alright, I updated to 2.2 and I was going to make a backup.. but once I booted into stock recovery and tried to apply the update.zip I got this error
E:Can't mount /dev/block/vold179:9
(no such file in directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:bplib_delta_for_test.bin
then..
E:Can't mount /dev/block/vold179:9
(no such file in directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip

I had this error when I was using imnuts recovery kernel (correct button mapping i.e. camera button selects) so instead I odin'd (haha) adryn's test_2 kernel from the "official" thread (the screwy button mapping i.e. press the menu softkey area) and it fixed the problem xP
I posted what happened in the ec04 stock thread too

i had this problem when i first upgraded to froyo, but i started from scratch which probably wasn't necessary, well here's what i did:
-i odin'd stock dl17 full odin package
-rebooted phone, let it do its thing
-i put the blue(cyan) cwm update.zip file and rom/kernel for froyo on my sd card
-odin'd froyo modem
-odin'd cwm_recovery_test4_adryn.tar
-went to recovery mode and fakeflashed update.zip(cwm)
-wiped data/cache/dalvik cache
-flashed froyo rom/kernel zip file
-wiped data/cache/dalvik cache again
and out of nowhere it all worked again. hmm....again most of these steps weren't necessary but i like to start out from scratch sometimes(bad habit)
thanks guys, all I had to do was use adrynalynes .tar in stead of imnuts. and it worked fine.
Can someone post the dl17 Odin files? All of the links I've found so far are dead.

small warning
I just wanted to put out a small warning to those trying to update to ec03: Do NOT use the yellow version of CWM to attempt a data wipe/factory reset before OR after installing ec03. It will hang on formatting /data and cause all sorts of headaches.
If you ARE stuck at formatting /data already and just found this forum:
hold vol up+down+power for about 3-5 seconds to reboot
get back into yellow CWM
ensure the usb is plugged in and go to storage and mounts
mount the USB storage
copy the cyan CWM update.zip from your computer.
install the update.zip (replacing the yellow cwm's update.zip)
hold vol up+down+power for about 3-5 seconds to reboot
voila, cyan cwm!
continue to do a data wipe/factory reset from inside cwm, ignore the error msgs since the actual sucess messages get hidden by the cwm menu when format is complete.
then reboot & enjoy ec03 froyo

[HELP] Problem with flashing [Cyanogen and frozen]

Ok, run down;
I rooted my SGII, CWM was working.
I got RomManager Pro, I followed the instructions to install CyanogenMod.
I got the error:
"E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
I couldn't find a good suggestion about what to do, some people suggested flashing and going the wipe route.
I followed the instructions here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176411 telling me to;
"Harder way:
Make sure you're running a rooted device.
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1118693)
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition) - do it for real.
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon (through ROMManager is easiest)"
After I installed the rom .zip file I restarted and I am stuck on the Samsung Galaxy SII GT-19100 screen with the yellow triangle and exclamation mark.
Any suggestions would be extremely welcome. Kind of freaking out.
I had the same. I removed battery and then replaced it and pressed up+home+power to boot into recovery and install back up.

[Q] Please help me, error while flashing

Hi guys, I hope you can help me.
I have just rooted + flashed my motorola defy plus for the first time (on any device for that matter)
I installed 2nd init, version 0.6.... or something.
Put a rom, kernel and google apps on my sd-card
Then I turned usb-debugging off and rebooted my phone.
Now I can get into bootmenu, and this is what I do:
1) go to recovery
2) select custom recovery
3) then it says: Clockworkmod Recovery v2.5.1.8
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
4) I then select wipe data/factory reset
5) then it says this: Formatting DATA
Formatting CACHE
FORMATTING SDEXT
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext
Formatting SDCARD:/.android_secure
Data wipe complete
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
6) After that i select install zip from sdcard
7) then I select choose zip from sdcard
8) then I select the zip file containing the rom
9) And it says: Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
E: Can't make /tmp/update_binary
Installation aborted
Now I can't go any further and can't use my phone at all
I hope u guys can help me, and that I haven't F*ed up my phone
I have a quite similar problem.
On a defy+,rooted 2ndinit installed, backup-ed first, download the new quarx05/03 ICS, put the zip on sd, wipe data, reboot and start to install ics, but the message was
''Finding update package

Thanks to the previously backup I can use may phone as usual.
What I have done wrong with de ICS installation?
Thanks
PS. Sorry for probable a dummie question:What we have to do with md5 zip near the CM9 Jordan.zip?
A little help please about the subject?
Thank you

I guess that this is a simple and many times occured error, since nobody has any answer....
Does you disabled the usb debugging before flashing?
Yes I do, but nothing change,
Thanks
if I'm not mistaken the last release of 2nd init is not compatible with defy. Try to check this on the development forum. I hope I have been of help.
I'd tried with both 1.0.7 latest and 0.6.1.
With latest, the phone is blocked.
Thanks
I had used this. Try with it
P.S. sorry for my bad english.
Tried, the same errors,
Thanks
I don't know. Sorry. By the time i had used that.
I think you need to go to stable recovery after you wipe your data from custom recovery

I think you need to go to stable recovery after you wipe your data from custom recovery
What do you mean by "stable recovery"? You talk about version 0.6. of 2nd init or something else?
Can you show a step-by step procedure?
Thank you in advance.
However, which is the procedure to un-root a defy+ and to have it with the original, fresh system?
I had flash a new SBF, root with Unlockroot v2.3, anything else doesn't work, 2ndinit v2.0 stable, wipe data/cache/dalvik (same errors), try to install cm9-ics, the same error "Can't make /tmp/update_binary"
What the f.....?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.. Trying to find a solution but is quite difficult. First I thought it has something to do with the partitioning, as stated in THIS topic. But, in THIS topic, people say that partitioning the SD card is not necessary at all..
@Cretu22: Yes stable recovery is CWM 0.6
Don't install stable recovery! I too faced this issue when I flashed using stable recovery. In snd init install Latest recovery and then try flashing your ROM. That should work..
I did choose the stable version indeed 0.6.7.
Now i did uninstall it and installed the latest 1.0.7, but when I reboot my phone it won't get into the boot menu but just boots into android. Tried it several times, but only with 0.6.7 I seem to be able to get in the menu

Okay!! I hope you were pressing the volume down button when the blue LED came?? Try doing this again all over.. I mean reinstall 2nd init and then latest recovery.. I remember doing this once(instal latest recovery after I installed stable recovery)..

Yes, its working Pressing the volume down button was not necessary with 0.6.7, that was what went wrong. Now the zips installed like a charm
i know the answer and is very simple
the problem is that you cannot create that specific folder.... because it already exist, cmp (connected music player) creates it, just delete it from SD and done!
