see post #5, give it a try and then report back? I would like to know how that works.
This wont work for me. When I orginally installed WP7 my Scandisk microSD card did not format, so I have no memory left on my phone. Its running the software with SD card right now. So I need to reinstall it, and I just want to see if all i need to do is put it in USB flasher and reinstall, or do i need to back all the way to the orginal rom and start from the begining
No you shouldn't have to start all the way over. Just take batt out and back in and turn on then hold end key (red) untill the magldr menu shows up then select option 5 I think it is. Then connect phone to computer and click on the DAF file from your ROM file.
make sure your SD Card is in before doing this. WP7 formats it automatically.
Does this help?
quick change
Have you tried the simple method...
go to settings > about
click [reset your phone]
when the phone powers off, swap the SD cards
the phone will reboot and format the new card.
your OS is on NAND, but is using the card as part of the opperatign space.
Good luck.
Hi,
I'm dual booting Mango and Android in my HD2.
Initially, everything was fine. i can boot into mango or android as i wish. after 1 day exploring mango, i realized that the empty space of the storage card returned to 8GB. FYI, i partitioned the SD card into 2 partitions of 4GB each.
then went into MAGDLR to boot Android...it says loading image fail...my android partition is gone!
anyone facing this issue? i'm thinking maybe mango has something to do with it...
any thoughts?
thx
me too,so i back to NAND android again
remember this is green mango and is buggy!
It probably did a hard software reset and wiped the sd card while you weren't looking.
Hope you backed up android!
You Jinxed me!!!! I read your post this afternoon I said to myself "Pfff...Sucks for U, glad I'm still on NODO!" and then an hour ago while listening to Last.fm my phone crashed and rebooted. I didn't think anything of it because it does this every time once in a while. I stuck it back in my holster while waiting for it to be ready to use again. When I took it back out of my holster and turned it on it had the "getting started menu" was on the first page! Nooooo!!!!!! I got Jinxed!!!!!!!!
Well, I was planning to upgrade to Mango shortly anyways and I have a backup of my android on my desktop, which I just I did 2 days ago, thank god!!! So not too bad though my desktop usb hubs is really wonky and unreliable at times so that will be my only headache. So to answer your question, it's not just a Mango problem. It can happen on Nodo, too!
is this a mango problem? i've been dual booting ever since wp7 was available and haven't had any mishaps. gotta backup more often, but aren't we always using new versions of android anyways?
radiikal,
How did you get Mango dual booting in the first place. I have not had the time to devote to figuring out how to work with the way Mango formats the SD card, in the past I have been running dual boot on 7004 and NoDo so I know how to do it. However, as of Mango it formats the entire card as two "Other" partitions, since the 200MB section is not FAT16 I have not been able to modify it using the usual steps and I cannot get Windows to recognize the new FAT32 partition since it is not the first partition on the disk. I am going to try and copy a partition from another SD card and see if that works but if there is another way to do it I would like to know.

Guys, the dual booting method is the same for all WP7 builds. I'm using the one user elfinlazz cooked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157535) and i loaded it the same way as i did when i was using xbmod's build.
spike, you are right in that when WP7 formats your sd card, it doesn't make a FAT16 partition. I use minitool partition manager for the whole process and it makes one 200MB "other" partition, and the rest of the space as a second "other" partition. what you do is this:
1) Delete the bigger "other"(red) partition and click apply. it should be "unallocated" (gray)
2) Click create make it "unformatted"(dark green), leave as logical, and make sure that "partition size" is BIGGER than "unallocated space before" (I would make it AT LEAST a 1gb difference. I've had issues where if you try to make them equal sizes, windows would format the whole card again)
NOTE: make sure the partitions read in THIS EXACT ORDER:
200MB "other" partition
smaller "unallocated" partition
bigger "unformatted" partition
click apply and it may take a while. once it's done, put it in the phone and boot into WP7
3) you should go through the setting up phone process. once you get to the home screen, go to settings, about phone, and check the available storage. it SHOULD be the size of the bigger "unformatted" partition (give or take a couple mb for the os files). if all is well, hit "reset your phone", when it asks are you sure, hit yes, and your phone will reboot. MAKE SURE YOU BOOT INTO MAGLDR.
4) once in magldr, put the sd back in the computer and open minitool
5) you can now delete the 200MB "other" partition and it will merge with the smaller "unallocated" partition. from there, click create, make it FAT32, make it primary, and make the cluster size 32kb. click apply and let it work.
6) you should now have 2 partitions, a FAT32 and an "other" partition. the "other" partition should be bigger. right click on the "other" partition, go to "modify" and click set as primary. both partition should be set as primary or android will not see your SD storage.
7) if that's good, copy your android build to the sd card and before booting into android, i would boot into WP7 again, set up your phone again, and check the available storage. should be the same as the first time you booted wp7. if not, then you'll have to do the process all over again, and i would make the WP7 partition bigger than you did.
I am using dual boot too, no issues here. Works as good as it always has

I think you can not dual boot with half and half size. Give WP7 greater space than Android as not to confuse WP7. I read that somewhere.

You can use 2 different separate cards, one for each build. It's a pain to update WP7 and then go over the partitioning mess again.
The only annoyance may be the removing and the reinserting of cards. That does not bother me.
Once WP7 Mango is set up and running, it does not erase a new card you would insert by accident. WP7 asks you to turn off the phone and get the right card. It is best to setup MAGLDR to boot android automatically...
I had that same problem but that was with a 7004 build. It happened a day after I flashed radio 2.15 to 2.12 to test for better battery performance.
Have got radio 2.15 back on and not changing this time
Hello everyone, I've recently installed Back to the Future [XBmod-Yuki] with kingston 8gb class 4. Everything was fine until i pressed 'reset ypur phone'. The phone started crashing on htc logo , so I decided to go back to wm 6.5. The problem is my sd card is no longer recognisable by anything. I tried SD formatter, hard disk low level format tool, killdisk, mitool partition, but with no luck

Or
Youtube type in search(video from 96edwy)......> htc hd2 how to format your sd card after wp7 use
thaks for the help, but both methods are not working, i've installed storage lock, but my sd card is no longer recognised by the phone itself. when i go to mass store, my pc is not finding anything either.
i have the exact same problem i also tried with the cab sender but had no luck if someone could please help us i actualy lost 2 8Gb sd cards
I had to get a new sd card for similar case.

all the solutions they gave in the forum didnt work for me, only this worked:
be carefull never do a reset from the about menu cuz this was the reason all my cards got locked <- im on this now for over a week, so believe me i tried everything, but its never useless to try it yourself because in my opinion you cant talk about a general state of cards or wp7 installation.
Reflash everything with your card inside your mobile, i mean start with windows 6.5 then the radio then magldr and then the native rom from yuki,
as it boots up wp7 you should get stuck on the htc screen because your sd is broken, now empty the sd bevor the phone has booted, and enter it in your sd reader, windows should now detect the card.
this only worked for one of my cards. and no its not depending on the brand because i have 2 sandisks and with the 8 gb it worked... with the 2gb it didnt...
but i still couldnt manage it to get to mango.

I had troubles to install WP also, I just tried again today, and I have it now!
I installed it from cabs, following more or less this:
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/09/16/how-to-install-windows-phone-7-5-mango-7720-on-htc-hd2-video/
I downloaded 7004-7392 and 7392-7720.
I installed in 3 update steps:
1st I installed the ROM,
then 1st update 7004-7392
then I installed all cabs to get to 7661
then I installed all to 7720
Had some troubles, but by keeping trying, I got it
Now I have my red mango!
Even if it is still bugging because of my sd card... Now It freezes 1 second after being loaded.

Had that same issue, just hard reset on magldr (power on, vol up and volume up again) and problem solved.
at the stage of 7.392 to 7403 it gets stuck with me cause of the sd card it wont update and then it gets into a boot loop, its definatly the boot when i need the sd to update, the boot kills my sd and it wont recognize the updates, any trick how to get over that boot which kills the card? any way to get the updates to the card without doing that reboot on wp7
I don't have a solution to the SD unlock, BUT I can tell you that people SAY that if you put the SD in a Nokia device and format it, it will be usable again. I gave myself a serious scare as I thought I had destroyed 2 SD cards, when not even WP7 recognized them, but I found out that if you do a Task 29, install radio 2.15, MAGLDR 1.13, enable 24mb nand and clear SD MBR, then install the ROM again, the phone can read the SD once more, thus meaning it is NOT DESTROYED and salvageable. Hope this was somewhat helpful to anyone else that thought like me he had destroyed his SD!
VERY IMPORTANT: WP7 stops recognizing the cards if you take them OUT of the device, so if you want to save yourself an hour of reflashing DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES pull your SD out. Otherwise you will need to reflash if you want the phone to see the SD again.
EDIT: Read my next post for the solution! Hope this helps
How to format a WP7 secured card
Hey guys,
I have flashed WP7 from initial builds to NODO to Mango so many times that I have lost count...
With NODO I have had success in formatting the card with my Nikon D90.
Cards started to be locked in Mango. The only solution is to format the card with a Nokia C6 or any Nokia with Symbian v8 or above.
I have tried every tool and every tool is dependent on the OS for initial recognition, and OS (Window 7) simply refuses to recognize the "wp7 secured" card.
I managed to salvage my SD card using a SD-adapter and the built-in SD card reader of my netbook... (Android, CWM, and 5 USB card readers didn't work) windows recognized the card as a 200MB card at first (?..)
used SD formatter to restore the original size to 4GB

Oh rly
Because I manaed to reformat my SD WITHOUT ANY CAMERAS OR NOKIAS
All you have to do is use the DEV_UNLOCKSTORAGE.cab and that will unlock your SD which can then be read by your PC and reformatted with SD Formatter 3.0!

I think I realised your problem and I'm sorry. I had missed the part where he says the PHONE can't recognize the card either.
Same thing happened to me, but I just:
1.Ran task29
2.Installed 2.15 Radio
3.Installed magldr 1.13
4.Went into services (WITH MY SD CARD IN MY PHONE) and I picked Clear SD MBR (i don't know if that really helps, but just in case it does)
5.Enabled extra 24mb nand and I flashed the ROM
6.Then I updated to 7720
7.I installed DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab and unlocked my SD, i turned off my phone, I took my SD out and My computer could now read and Format it.
I am truly sorry if this is another "stupid" solution.

Are you sarcastic? I mean really are you. Cause I SWEAR it works. The card may be locked, but builds 7004, 7392 can still see it just as well as 7720, but I think you need to be on 7720 in order to use DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab!

Either I'm a lucky mother Effer that this works for me, or you guys do something entirely different. And does the SD brand have anything to say?
Hi everyone my first post and probably a stupid one at that... anyway I have three SD cards all locked after failed upgrades and would like to unlock and reformat them on my HD2 now with a successful upgrade to Mango 7.5. Could someone tell me the procedure for doing so, because the storage unlock won't work when the current Micro SD card is removed from the phone before or after booting Mango.
I know one of the locked cards is compatible but is locked due to an outage during one of my previous upgrade attempts, its 16 gig and I would like to replace the current 2g for larger storage. If the 16gig card was unlocked would this even be possible without having to reflash everything?
thanks for your help...
The encryption is unique to each device, that means you can't take a SD card and format it in another WP7.
I don't know if the seed is generated randomly or based on read only values (IMEI?) but my best guess would be that you will have to use one of the methods described in this thread.

starting with the 2Gb one that is in the phone.
1.Send extrapartition 1Gb cab.
2.do hard reset (1234)and check in settings/about if partition is applied
3. unlock the storage using storagelock tool and remove card, check you can read card in pc.
4 put in second card. do1234 hard reset
5 do step 3 again
6 put in your biggest bestest card and do 1234 hardreset.
7 send extrapartition remove cab and 1234 hard reset
then you can send a bigger extrapartition, I have 7Gb on my 16Gb SD
8 You can then in pc use gparted in linux or Easeus partition master in windows to resize and format your spare sd cards
Thanks for that, i was sure that because all three cards were created and failed within the same phone then at least one would unlock, is there not a method to take out the present sd card swap with the locked one, run the storage unlock reboot then reformat but not necessary in the order as i have tried that and it hasn't worked, i don't have access to any other phones and really need the increased storage and a card to run some android SD builds. In respect of the last question if i was to get a compatible 32gig card could i just swap it out with the 2gig or copy the 2 gig partition and put in on the 32gig without having to go back to 6.5 and do the update all over again... i don't know... i am a bit lost with all this and its a steep learning curve..
Thanks Robbie, just what i was looking for will give it a try and let you know how i get on.. you answered my question in the middle of me typing it.. strange!!!!

Just a quick update to say that those instructions worked a treat, I how have more storage a few extra cards to try out some SD builds before I take the plunge for the dual boot. I think where I was getting confused was the difference between the (1234) hard rest and the hold vol - & + buttons while turning on the phone on reset. Robbie once again many thanks bro…

I thought the unlock tool was only useful for the sd card that successfully upgrade to mango

Yeah me also, that’s why I have been pulling my hair over this for the last couple of weeks, but it does work…. it’s just fining the right procedure and because all the cards were created on the same phone (EU Leo unlocked TM) I think that makes a difference. The other two cards I now know are incompatible so they have become my storage for android SD builds... I don’t think people are aware of this, maybe it should be a sticky or something… with credit to Robbie

hey plant man, can you just clarify something ..
do we send dev_unlock.cab after step2?
storagelock tool?? where will we find this on the phone?
step 4 - when you insert another corrupt card into phone would phone load up ?
i wonder what are the reasons behind step 1 - does this vary depending on what type of sd card memory you have?
luckily i borrowed a sony vivaz but needs to go back and i havnt got mango yet..i imagine this trick would work on all versions ie 7403?
off the topic..cab sender option 'B' anyone know if this would restore to orginial state ie 7004 if cab sending failed? to prevent from reflashing 7004 all the ***ing time
sorry for the questions...i cant do anything without understanding things first

yes but do it before you send the partition as any change of partition size will render backup unrestorable. After you have set up your good sd and everything is fine, do a backup then

Sorry, yes. I installed WP7 Mango (XBmod-Yuki rom V2), SD card was formatted and locked. I removed WP7 without knowing this would happen, and now I can't get the card to be recognized in Windows, Linux, OSX, or any of my other devices that support MicroSD. Been searching for a fix, but it looks like I'll need to find a Symbian device to format the card.
After I posted before, I was able to reinstall the original WP7 rom and the card was recognized after a hard reset, but I'm not having any luck getting the unlock cab to work. Actually, now, after trying to send the cab to my device, restarting with the card in the phone or doing a hard reset results in the phone just not loading the OS.
Sorry for being long winded, but I'm just about out of ideas. Thanks for any help

The way I fixed that is an aweful thing to do, but it worked.
1. Flash to stock Windows Mobile 6.5 (with locked SDcard in there)
2. Task29
3. Install MAGLDR
4. FLASH WP7 (still, with that same SDcard in there)
After it's flashed, do not update, but take the card out and stick it in a card reader (hell, even the magldr >> usb storage function works).
Windows will detect 200 MB on that card. Format it with SDformatter and it will be good again.
Note: That specific card is not compatible with WP7 MANGO, so don't try to use that ever again ;-)
It took me a week to figure this out, but i successfully managed to revive my 8GB Sandisk Class 4 card, which I now will use in my camera instead of the HD2
Hope this helps!
AWESOME!

I'm going to try this, but I'm wondering which WP7 Rom you flashed. I originally was using the Yuki Update rom, then once all the badness happened, I flashed to a much older one, then back to Yuki. However, in each of those cases, I never got the 200MB partition. Anyway, I'm giving this a shot, will let you know. Thanks!
If you want only format the SD card

Hi hautsi, welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately the thread you posted, dated January, only works for the pre-mango ROMS (and possibly XBmod/Yuki V1)
Look here for SD format http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242071
also Krewsia1nl's method should be posted there

Hey again all,
It's possible there's something else wrong with my card at this point. I tried Krewsia1nl's method and it seemed like it might work, but I still never got any additional partitions that my PC could recognize. I tried it a couple of times, 12st with an older WP7 rom I found in the HD2 WP7 dev section, and 2nd with the original Yuki rom I was flashing. Same issue in both cases.
What I did find is that I can see the card in the Yuki rom after flashing, BUT if I restart the device, it freezes, I have to remove the card to be able to boot it, and when it reboots, it tells me I must insert the card to continue. Great...
This also poses a problem with unlocking the card in WP7 with the unlock or partition cabs. To install them, the cab sender restarts your device. Once that happens, my phone freezes and I have to remove the card. All subsequent attempts to reboot or reinsert the card are met with either nothing recognized, or an error (It's also important to note that I can only see the card on first boot after following Krewsia1nl's method-if I try to hard reset with the card in, the phone just keeps freezing).
So, for now, that's where I'm at. I'm going to try the UBCD Killdisk method and I'll report whether or not that works, in case anyone finds themselves in this particular, sinking boat. Killdisk Method is here:

Thanks again for your help, all. Love XDA <3
Killdisk didn't work either. Guessing my card is fried, but I'll still try a Nokia if I can find one.
I also tried to install Yukis Mango 7720 but not with good result.
Does this 7720 work in any HD2...
Ubuntu doesn't do anything if you add your WP7 SD card to reader.
Win7 shows that you have "Removable Disk" but if you try to access it Windows says "unable something....".
I thought that I have also two fried SD card because this 7720 testing.
But Nokia E51 format successfully both cards )
i have an old Nokia 3650 and a few cards that mango has ruined. Now if I can just find the plug for the nokia......wonder if it will format them ?
Just got my 32 class 4 SanDisk in the mail. How do I release the card in tmous hd2 and add 32 to set up dual boot droid. Reflash from start.... Awww lawd! Took all night! Can I hard rest with no card and do it with cabssnder to partition card and card unlock and party with rum tonite?
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Btway.... Xda devs and forum participants could teach the worldwide manufacturers a thing or two about the way it's done. Thanks to all.

Can you tell me what SD Card did you manage to unlock?
I tried an E63 for my Sandisk Class 4 32Go unsuccessfully
What an absolute disaster the BTTF Yuki rom is...It is inevitable, most will lose their sd cards, it cost me $45 to replace. Could we put a BIG warning up for these roms, GUARANTEED to destroy your SD card? Because it will, at some point for sure, you will reload the rom and that's when the fun starts..AVOID AT ALL (cough) Costs...

You are completely entitled to your opinion and to post it here.
Many people have successfully upgraded to Mango and have not posted here at all.

I'm sorry, did not intend to knock the rom, the rom is excellent, the concern, it will ultimately cause you much duress as to the sd card at some point, that's my only point. Not many folk expect to lose the sd card after installing... and reinstalling...yes, there are work arounds, but, they entail, much ado and worst case, nokia.kodaj devices...there should be a MASSIVE warning as to SD card...yes, the small print offers cabs and tinkering to avoid the 'lock', but most of us don't expect any such chicanery.-)
