What ROM is everyone currently Running What's the best? - G2 and Desire Z General

I just rooted my phone today after months of research now comes the fun part testing different ROMs so what's everyone running. I also wanted to know what ROMs have the black notification bar like Gingerbread. Thx in advance
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

GingerVillian is by far my favourite, very stable and quick

I have also just rooted my phone, I chose to use MIUI rom ported by G4rb4g3, its a great rom, feels quick and even has different themes that you can use. You can also get a gingerbread style notification bar

If your wanting just a complete black bar like Gingerbread is the only option you have at this moment is GingerVillian or some other Gingerbread based rom. You can also change the status bar to black through a CM based rom. The Sense based have the black bar but it has a gradient piece to it so it's not completely black like Gingerbread is
I've tried a MIUI rom probably 3 times and I can't use it..even though people say it's like the iPhone it's not..could never get used to it. I personally run Virtuous which is a Sense based rom and have themed it to my liking to look like Gingerbread at the current moment

meXdroid ExtraHotSauce v.02! Best rom ever. And i tried em all. You get black bar, custom pulldown bar, awesum animation in everything you do. Its based on cm 6.1.1 and is the most stable, try it out
G2 with ExtraHotSauce v0.2!!

Virtous .90
Pershoot 1.3
and .26.04.02.17 radio
love it, love sense launcher, wouldn't use anything else

Just go with the cm7 nightlies. Best thing since sliced bread.

The biggest question is if you want Sense UI or stock Android..once you decide that then you can decide on the rom lol

Every once in a while I go back to a sense rom and have to slap myself because I am reminded why themed stock is so much better. I am hooked on GingerVillain... Running 1.5 since release with no bugs or issues... very fast and excellent battery life. I think Villain rom is the best 2.3 rom for our G2's as of now.

See I'm the opposite..I prefer Sense just for the camera and dialer...the camera on my G2 takes better pictures with a Sense rom than the vanilla rom that came with it

GingerVillain 1.5, no question. I tried virtuous and it was nice, sense is very pretty, but I had to run it at 1.4ghz just to make it acceptable. Even then it slowed down plenty. Also tried Miui recently, also very pretty, but not user friendly.
Humming along nicely at 1.2ghz on Ginger and am quite happy, nothing else compares to it at the moment imo.

Ahmen to that, the camera app for the 1.72 Sense based rom is a step above what we've got atm... its the only reason id switch back to Virtuous, but I'm running CM7 nightly builds for now.

I've been playing around with Miui recently. Definitely a acquired taste

Go with CM7. Its quite stable and nightly rom updates are being cranked out, well, every night. Lots of support and you can be notified of new builds through rom manager. Requires latest cwm recovery image 3.0.0.5 (not the same as rom manager version). Comes with an oc/uv kernel up to 1.5ghz. Compatible with pershoots kernel.

I'm chill'n with Ginger Villain...'nuff said!

I am currently running the Cyanogenmod 7 Nightlys, I would like it to have more customization to the status bar like CM 6.1.1

dat miui rom is the best i have to say

The one-and-only CyanogenMod 7.

When the official CM7 comes out that will be top dog by far but right now I'm just using 6.1.1 cm I have used virtous but although it was nice looking not nearly as stable or as well put togather as cm6.1.1I have been soooooo much happier when I made the switch to cm

Posted this in a similar thread.
Started with CM6.1.1 but moved onto the CM7 Nightly's since Build 1. I keep up to date with every CM7 Nightly Build. What I have noticed based on benchmarking apps is that CM7 scores lower than CM6.1.1. This is with the updated Quadrant and SmartBench 2010 that is compatible with Gingerbread. The Quadrant score in my sig was with a early CM7 build and a non gingerbread optimized Quadrant. In day to day use I dont notice much of a speed difference though.

[Q] What's your favorite 4G compatible ROM?

I'm stuck can't decide which ROM to go with, Now that 4G is really up and running in my area, I am no longer using Cyanogen (My favorite) Now I can't decide which ROM to go with that supports 4G I like so many of them, What's your all' opinions on which ROMS you prefer. I like more of AOSP style ROMS over the Sense ROMS.
Opinions? Ideas? Suggestions?
Ava-froyoV9, netarchy 4.1.9 CFS kernal, with Riptides colornclear v8 theme. Smoothest combo ever and everything works.

i would say fresh evo 3 i love it
I take both of these ROMS are 4G compatible?
Yep, fresh or Ava for sure!
I think myn's 2point2 is the coolest right now...im running baked snacks #6 kernel and battery is awesome in this setup.

Thanks for the input I'm gonna spend the next couple of days flashing these ROMS, If anyone else has any opinions please share.
I'm also a fan of the more AOSP-styled ROMs and agree Cyanogen is my favorite but i can't forego the 4g. So, I'm using the latest Fresh ROM with the AOSP lockscreen (just remove the HTC lockscreen and dont set your alarm using the stock clock), launcherpro, and an AOSP theme that gives you the AOSP notification bar and other AOSP-styled looks. Here's a link to that theme's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753081
Note: I use V1 and not V2 because I think the bootanimation for V2 is crappy.

Are you running sense or launcher pro?
Evo after my Apple
I am running Myn's also. Didn't use any other kernel, and staying with sense, I'm liking it. Battery isn't bad and phone works fine. I don't see any others that I like really...I would like to ditch sense, but I don't want to have to find mail app alternatives and do those other steps you have to do if you run that app to rid sense.
recent ROMs i've tried:
baked snack
evio
myn
fresh
cm6 nightlies
burntdroid
virus
ac
vaelpak
back to evio - fast, stable, nice theme, nice screen transitions (myn's were nice at first but got old and slows things down a bit) and a lot of his work is used across other ROMs. also, another important factor for me is the extra space on internal storage - i have 116 apps all on internal storage with 150mb left!
other:
manup theme
kings #6 bfs kernel
I'll throw my vote in for Ava-froyov9 ROM.
I used tons of roms, and I like Cyanogen a lot(and am using it now), but as for the Sense roms, Ava was my favorite. Battery life was great, everything worked, and an easy AOSP lockscreen flash and ADW launcher made me feel better =P
I actually had lots of strange issues with Myn's rom and in the end, it came down to which ROM ran my NHL app the best.
If I wasn't playing around with different ROM's right now I'd be using Ava's
ava-froyo v9
thanks for all the recommendations everyone. I too am wanting to keep my 4g abilities so am worried about the limited roms as of now.
Today I have been using Frost v2.2.2 if you like AOSP this is for you, The only issue I noticed if I overclock in setCPU too much the phone crashes.
I think I'm gonna go with baked Snack

Best Non-CM Gingerbread ROM?

As the title states looking for opinions on what non-CM Gingerbread ROMs are working best for other users. This also excludes ROMs based on CM. As much as Im not a Sense fan, Im at the point where I dont care if it is Sense or not. Im thinking of switching from CM7 mainly cause the GPS issue has finally gotten to me (ive tried all fixes and have GPS working but its so crappy compared to stock). Enough of that, time to move on. Welcome to opinions on some Gingerbread roms.
well i find the meXdroidMod meXperia remeX really awesome, though its cm nightly based, i think a good non cm would be the ginger-sense by gingervillian
I never was a Sense fan until I came across Virtuous. Best ROM for the G2 in my opinion. I'm always trying other ROMs just to keep up with what's out there, but I keep coming back to Virtuous as my daily driver. Everything just works with it, including GPS.
MIUI hands down. I love how fast and smooth it is, especially with pershoot's latest kernel.
miui for sure...
was gonna suggest ultimate droid. but its cm7 based. sooo.. miui. best rom IMHO

Ultimatedroid definitely kicks ass. I really want to try the miui, but there are like five different ones in rom manager and two or three on the forum, no idea which is most up to date, supported the most, or used by the most people. Is miui supposed to be iphone clone?
Edit: UD is based off cyanogen also but actually feels like a rom all its own and not a CM ripoff.

Some issues with ultimatedroid(for g2) are thus follows:
~Gps is still borked.
~After you select one alternate theme no other one will install, same goes for boot animation though in the case of boot animations once you have selected an alternate you cannot change it.
~Font changes do not work.
~Applications like to uninstall themselves.
UD "seems" snappy but it is entirely due to sped up render effects. I pulled just as fast & faster quadrant scores running CM6.1.1 with pershoots latest kernel.
Speed is in the eye of the beholder people. So far virtually ever rom I've tried that is based on CM7 code has some sort of "gotta pray to machine gods" type element to get GPS going. Virtuous is laggy even with overclocking past 1ghz and if you don't dig SenseUI you're up a creek. The only major rom I have yet to try is MIUI but I really don't dig iphone style integration so I guess I'm just going to be stuck on CM6.1.1 till the official Gingerbread release for the g2 comes out.

I think the gps varies partly on hardware also, because I have never had any of the aforementioned problems on UD (given I never tried to change the font), and gps worked fine. As in accuracy three meters and under and no drifting. Gps works for me on all these roms that people say it is broke on when the OP states the technically it is working correctly. Coming from a vibrant before I have seen how wildly gps hardware quality can vary with a given model, I do believe people when they say it doesn't work for them but there are also people who never expierience these problems.

is there any luncher/mod out there that will remove an app form the drawer when its on a homepage?

I don't believe the xboarders rom is CM based. It's just straight up, no bs, stock gingerbread.

New to G2, question.

Hey guys,

Never saw any bugs on Virtuous (its mostly stock 1.85 ROM, with a few added features), CM7 on the other hand, had bugs when I used it. It was a while back, but people on here still say CM7 has its share of minor glitches; although its cutting edge, and lots of features, which is why it appeals to so many.
On the other hand, Sense ROMs take up more memory and CPU resources, especially the launcher. So Sense ROMs tend to be a little laggy compared to AOSP (maybe that is what the previous 2 posts mean by "glitchy" and "buggy"). Unless you are already set on getting a Sense ROM, I'd say give the stock AOSP ROM a chance, and see how you like it.
If you still want to try a Sense ROM, Virtuous is the most stable. But its still Froyo based. If you want a Gingerbread Sense ROM, there is lots to choose from, and I can't really say what's "best". Virtuous Fusion is the only GB based Sense ROM I've tried, and while the new Sense 3.0 has some cool features, the constant reloading of the launcher was pretty much a deal breaker. Gingerbread ROMs are basically all ports (and therefore have bugs), and will probably remain that way until HTC releases the "official" Sense Gingerbread ROM, so the developers get their hands on it.

you do the same thing you do with flashing any custom rom, but I do suggest you wait for the one that is pre-rooted. (aka wait for it to be released on XDA prepped for flashing)
I tried the official Gingerbread leak for a bit last week. Its just a *touch* slower than CM7 and had some really annoying quirks about it. Back to CM7 I went, and I couldn't be happier.
Welcome! I would recommend the following roms if you are looking for stable and (relatively) bug free roms.
AOSP: Virtuous G-Lite 1.0.1, this is a Gingerbread build
Sense: Virtuous 1.0.2, this is a Froyo build
Both are from the same dev.
They have a GB version of sense called Virtuous Fusion, but I found that build to be a tad slow with the launcher reloading often.
Have fun!

[Q] What's your daily driver?

Relatively new to the G2, and I'm looking for a daily driver without having to experiment with 10 roms that all have one deal-breaking bug.
I like sense, which is good because it looks like pretty much all of the recent roms are sense or miui. I really wanted to have a sense 3.0/3.5 with 3d widgets, but it doesn't look like there are any stable, fast roms in this department.
So what's your go-to rom? I probably will start experimenting with all the newer roms anyway, but I want to get set up with a stable fallback first.
Thanks
As far as an AOSP ROM goes, I believe that meXdroidMod is hands down the fastest thing I've ever installed and it also has great developer support too. Here recently I've been all about MIUI so right now I'm running tun4fish's Bulletproof Miui. I'm in love with the speed and stability of this rom and the amount of customization you can do with it.
All in all it all boils down to personal preference. I like flashy, customizable roms so those two fit me. Play around and see what's right for you

I switch between CM7 and Beatmod Blissense. I prefer a more pure android, but I do like the UI and widgets in Beatmod.
Been running Bulletproof MIUI the last couple weeks. Solid daily driver with all the features I need and no issues.
When I get bored, I switch back/forth between CM7 and MIUI.
Been a meXdroidMod convert for awhile now. Really really fast and everythings smooth! Developer support is awesome too!
I started out with trying Virtuous Unity and Virtuous Doubleshot but found the Sense 3.0 ROMs were to slow for my DZ.
Settled for Virtuous Sense for the time being which is perfect for me. Also tried out Bulletproof MIUI just to try something completely different but that was definitely not for me so I returned to Virtuous Sense.

I agree with this statement 100%. Absolutely the best and my favorite ROM out right now.
I'm currently on CM7 nightlies. CM7 is by far the fastest ROM I've used, and it just gets faster when you overclock it. If I get bored, I'll use tun4fish's Bulletproof MIUI for a change of pace.
My daily driver is IC 2.1+3.0 and its awesome on the Desire Z.

Which ROM should I try that would suit my needs?

Lately, I've been having quite a few issues with CM7. I've been flashing nightlies every day for a few months now and there is always some issue it seems. Besides instability, I'm a bit bored of CM. I'd like to try something new, something reliable, lightweight, and stable. I love being able to tweak every aspect of my phone though. Any suggestions?
I have tried (I have mt4G and G2) iced glacier, royal ginger, miui, cm6, cm7, and nightlies.
Personally, miui & cm7 are the best.
My girlfriend ran cm7 forever. She loves to tweak her phone but somehow had rotten luck, and glitched her phone on cm a lot.
I installed miui. She hated it right away, as did I, but later it grew on her. I did a nandroid backup and she asked for cm7 back. Now she says she likes miui better, and a bit later goes well I like them both.
My point. Dude try em all
Miui is pretty slick for customizing. I personally like my cm7 with the minimal theme and icons. It looks almost like dos. Green text on black for terminal. 2screens. Everything in folders. It owns. Anyhow. Done rambling

Keep in mind I've only had this for a single day, but I'm really liking meXdriod. It's like a flashy, better looking cm7. After I turned the screen animations off it seems faster than cm7 as well, and everything works just fine, wifi calling is my biggest requirement and it worked right away. I don't know how much weight you can give it, but with mexdroid set to 1.1 OC I got a 2200 on quadrant.

Yeah, pretty much. Flashing a new ROM only takes about 5 minutes (after its downloaded). May as well try a bunch, and see what you like best. Everyone has different needs and tastes. Maybe you don't have time to try them ALL, but at least start with a few recommendations, and try them out.
HTC Clay SuperCM7
Apart from CM7.1.0, my favorite rom for my G2 is HTC Clay's SuperCM7 2.4. Here's a link to where you can get the 2.3 version. I had to root around on the internet to find the slightly updated 2.4, he never released it or updated it in ClockworkMod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076691
It runs fast and smooth and battery life if great. It's mostly just a themed/tweaked CM7, but it seems to have fewer issues. the only thing i really missed was access the FM Radio, but you may not use that at all.
I would suggest cm7 based roms. my favorite is the ice and fire with ice cream sandwich love. miui is nice but not my cup of tea... And beatmod bliss sense and desire hd 1.3 are my favorite sense 3.0/3.5 roms. but its your choice on whatever you like.
Ten words.
I'm using Virtuous 2.0.0. I have to admit that I like sense somehow. If you want a stable, smooth sense UI with an awesome cpu clock daemon, try this.

I'd like to try something new, something reliable, lightweight, and stable. I love being able to tweak every aspect of my phone though. Any suggestions?

Why not use a CM7 stable release then? 7.1 just came out recently. You can't flash nightlies then complain about bugs and instability
Other than CM7 my go-to ROM when I want a change is tun4f1sh' bulletproof MIUI.

Cyanogen said on twitter that he is trying unity. He mighta been being a little sarcastic, but i'd try it if it wasn't "hard" to install and I need my text messages right now.
I am running colorized latest cm nightly with ics theme. Before that I liked the wildfire theme and the ubuntu theme.

I think he was referring to Unity in Ubuntu.

He was using Unity in Ubuntu. lol....
Try using IWLT cm7 it is really fast and battery saver because it is built in with the custom oc daemon based on the virtuous oc daemon so you wont need 3rd party apps like setcpu and other
You should really give it a try!
Was having some problems with CM7 too and decided to try something new. Except for the lack of an app drawer, I'm digging Bulletproof MIUI right now.

Try virtuous unity v2.39.0 or virtuous beta 2. Currently using virtuous unity v2.39.0 & works great. Plus sense 3.0.

I have used
CM7
MIUI
Mexdroid Ghostchill aid
Unity w/sense 3.0
ILWT CM7 and others..............
I find myself going back to ILWT every time I try a different ROM . It is the most customizable ROM IMO
Going to flash using virtuous beta 2.

Which rom should you try? ALL OF THEM.
Which rom should you stick with? the one you liked most.
I can't believe people are still making threads about this topic.
That's a bit harsh, some people don't want to experiment so much as just find something that works for them. Also, some of these rom's need a little time for a new person to learn about them before you can decide on it, so it's nice if people give objective opinions on the different types so a new person can at least get an idea of where to start. I've tried one of each of the main types (Sense, CM, and Miui) and didn't like any of the sense-types at all. I didn't like MIUI at first either but realized I could put GoLauncher on it and have it work like I want it to. On my phone at least it seems like MIUI runs faster than any of the others I've tried, at least it gives me higher scores on any of the benchmarks I've run using the same cpu setting.
