Sirius XM working on your phones? - G2 and Desire Z General

i'm a Droid Incredible owner, and a Sirius XM subscriber...If I run any Z based Roms on my phone, I cannot get the Sirius XM app to connect to start streaming...it launches, checks for updates, signs me in....all that, but if I try to start streaming anything, it says no connection...
I asked one of the devs of the Incredible Z based Roms if he could check it out, and he is working with me, but he suggested I ask around on the G2/Desire Z forum to see if anyone else can connect....
Sirius XM is free for a week, download it from the market and set it up if you want to check it out...
thanks guys! I love the Z builds, but I'm stuck running an older HD rom from December because I NEED MY HOWARD STERN until i get this sussed out!

I just tried to check it on cm6.1, just to see if it worked and it tells me I have to upgrade my online plan.
I can't believe they want an additional fee for "premium" online access to be able to use the app. They are INSANE, I'm glad I only pay $55 a year for sat/online service now (I have XM, and I prefer O&A to stern)
Sorry I couldn't help more, but I think they are assinine to charge extra because they say it's "CD" quality through the app.

thanks for trying...i've had it running on CM...this looks to be a specific Z based rom issue...every Inc Z rom is affected...even Warm and Nil's Biz which are based on Z...

Had mine working on Virtuous and it is working now on a CM7 nightly.

is virtuous based on the Desire Z? haven't run virtuous in a long time

so it does work on the latest version of warm 2.2 which is based of Z....i'll check some others....

Works on CM7.

lied about the Warm....musta been connected wifi...forgot to mention it connects on WIFI, but doesn't connect on 3G...and yes, I know it works on CM as stated before....again, this only applies to Z based roms...works everywhere else.

Mine works on 3G or wifi on any rom. But I am using the G2 and not the Desire Z so it could be something with Sense UI but I'm not sure...
Thank goodness Howard Stern is on the app, finally!

[Q] Huawei Ideos X5.

Hi!
Im just thinking about a own forum for Ideos X5. Its a great phone with really good specs for a low price. Its like the Zte blade but twice as good. It's also good for root because of the vanilla rom. So what do you people think?(Hope you understand, im not from a english speaking country)
//Isak
I completely second this. I'm getting mine this week and I'd love it if the phone had some xda support.
I know this phone is getting quite popular in the non american regions and might get more popular due to the amazing pricing.
Please give us a forum \o/
Yes! Would love a forum. Getting mine soon, looks amazing for the price.
Can't wait for some rom love - Time to replace my mytouch 3g. If this phone came out in the US I think we would be seeing a lot more dev support for it.
Yeah Its a amazing phone for an amazing price If it just come out some good roots and it would be more awesome
Yes! We need a Forum for it!
My friend just bought one of these and it looks pretty sweet, especially for the low price. hopefully it gets a forum and some attention from XDA Devs
These are great value in Australia really cheap. $299 outright from Crazy Johns. Will probably pick one up soon. Really want a gingerbread ROM for it though, please create a section.
Yes, would like to see a forum for it too - it's quite a bit cheaper than equivalent phones.
Yes, forum please.
I bought one yesterday, here in Western Australia.
Been using it for several hours now total and so far have NOT been able to find any menu items for wi-fi tethering.
This post is coming using USB Tethering which worked right out of the box. Tethered to an Asus EEE 701 Netbook running Ubuntu Linux 10.04.
So, if I can't find wi-fi tethering menu item, I'll need to get root access and install barnacle again.
Compared to my Sony Ericsson X8, that I've had since late last year, it's blindingly fast! The big screen is nice too!
So yes, I'm all in favour of a dedicated forum ... I reckon that the Ideos X5 is going to be a big seller, at least here in Australia where I paid $349 for an unlocked, unbranded (vanilla rom) with version 2.2.1 rom.

Wait I thought x5 wasn't out yet....or is that just in America?

I got one last week and it is a great phone
I agree, this phone definitely needs its own forum. I got an Ideos X5 or u8800 a few days ago and it is just awesome. This is my first 'real' smartphone as I just upgraded from an n73 haha. I'm really excited about getting a 2.3 rom (and SetCPU ) onto my phone and I would be glad to contribute in any way I can.
There is another thread requesting the same thing (U8800 = X5)
that is, forum plx :]

+1 for own forum section.
I've had this phone a few weeks, I like it so far. Some minor things that I'd like to try to change, but I've been waiting for CM recovery before that. I mailed the ROM Manager creator if I could help him on March 8th, but no reply yet.
Edit: Looks like there's a guide on how to port the CM recovery for new devices: google "porting-clockwork-recovery-to-new.html". I think I might try this some day if someone else doesn't port it before that

Hope you get an answer Would be awesome if you tried it out and then post here how it worked
That U8800 thread has much more in the way of tips and useful info. While we wait for a forum dedicated to our Ideos X5 / U8800 phone, I suggest that we post any tips, info etc into THAT thread.
For example, I'll be copying my observation of the wifi tethering "gotcha" to that thread, now that I know it exists (thanks lyfkevin!).

Wow. I'm interested in this phone too ... since you already own one, does it run stock Android?
Really think we need a forum for this phone!
I'm not sure of your definition of "stock Android", Jubei71 but when I said "vanilla rom" I meant that it has a standard version of Android without phone carrier branding, shortcuts etc. For example, when it boots it just shows the Huawei logo.
It has "Swype" technology for the on-screen touch keyboard that I believe is a propriotory, non Google prodcut but I presume that Huawei simply pay for the rights to include it in this rom. And I found that I don't need to use Swype if I don't want too, "normal" hunt-and-peck key taps work just fine too.
I've installed plenty of stuff from the Google Market (Google and non Google) and it all works with no problems, although a You Tube link from one of my emails crashed the phone very soon after playback began. I had to power it down then re-start to regain control. I'm still checking but that email link may have been malicious or it may have been a "Adobe Flash 10" compatibility problem.
If my Ideos X5 proves to have unlocked Nand write and boot process (evidence so far suggests that it MAY be), I'll love it to death because then we'll be able to install our own "non-stock" , super-go-fast rom eventually!

Bell desire Z 2.3

Bell has starting pushing 2.3 to the desire z now, this is great news for us canadians. I just got the update its downloading right now.
It would be great if someone would post this in the development forum. I am really interested in getting my hands on the radio.
Just downloaded and installed. Honestly, I don't notice a huge difference (although I've only had my Desire Z for about two weeks). It seems a lot of the surface (UI) features of Gingerbread are something we already had with Sense (text selection, etc).
Here's a list of 2.3's features
I was sad to see that we don't get the awesome 2.3 CRT effect. Has anyone noticed any real upgrades since updating?
if any of you who updated still have the firmware package in the Download folder of your SD Card, I'd love to get my hands on it. I only seem to be able to pull the 1.84 firmware on my phone. I'd like to try my hand at making a Bell specific rom for our phones.
If you could upload it somewhere like megaupload and post a link, that would be pretty swank.
i dont feel the need to get it. i already have a gingerbread based rom so no need phone quality is also very good so no need to change radios too
carrier updates suck, period. my brother got the 2.3.3 update for his DHD (2.2 previously) on the Telus network, nothing's changed except for some UI differences and no CRT animation >.>..
my DZ on the other hand, has the new 2.3.5 with MIUI and it rocks his DHD into the ground =D
my point? carrier updates really shouldn't matter if you're on a site like XDA since devs beat carriers all the time.

Given that I don't have enough faith in my tech savvy level, I'm somewhat reluctant to root and flash it (at least not while the phone is still under warranty). I'm a lot happier with my phone now that it has GB on it, especially since the OTA update back in March absolutely killed the performance. With the new upgrade, performance is noticibly improved, with faster bootup times, app access and response, and better battery life (so far).
Mind you, the March OTA update REALLY killed the performance, so this might just be relatively speaking, but still.
I grabbed a copy of the OTA zip off of my SD before installing. PM me if you want it and I'll send it through.
I'm using my Unlocked Bell Desire Z on Fido network and I'm not getting the update. In fact, I didn't get the March update either, but that was a good thing...
Please post the zip file! Thanks!
I haven't received mine yet. I'm trying to find out why but no success.
My GF is using the DZ unlocked on telus and she received it.
boringegg - Did you root or flash your phone?
just got it!
update seems okay, for stock, but i'm wondering about the integrated VOIP / SIP "internet calling" (wi-fi only)
i tried with a couple of my accounts and it times out before the call goes though. anybody have success with this? not sure what i'm doing wrong since i can at least make calls with csipsimple nimbuzz linphone nettalk, but would be nice to use the build in service.

[Q] Free X10 2.2.1 Questions

Hi everyone, first post here. I've heard a lot of good things about xda.
I just flashed Free X10 2.2.1 onto my X10i and I have a couple of questions now after the fact:
1. The wireless network is displaying as Rogers Wireless however my carrier is Fido (they are sister companies in Canada and share the same network - however somehow the Rogers banner is prevailing on my phone and not the actual Fido one). Not a big deal, my phone number is still properly recognized from the SIM and all gsm, hspa, sms work just fine. Just wondering if anyone knows how to fix that.
2. It looks like my market app looks a little outdated compared to the stock ROM on the X10i. Is there a way to update that. I used the gapps zip from the Free X10 page however the UI looks a little antiquated to me compared to the previous version on the stock rom.
3. I like 2.2.1 (a lot faster and better battery life than the stock rom), however is there any stable wellknown roms out there for 2.3? I don't suppose 3 has been ported over to handsets yet (I just like to be on the cutting edge).
FreeX10 2.3.3 should be stable enough for daily usage. Give it a try.

Where can I get Free X10 2.3? Can you provide me a link? I have baseband 2.1.54
Wow bro you r late. U need flashtool and you can get official gingerbread right now. Just go to the development section

think theres one or 2 2.3.3 roms, i hear sony erricsons got one out for the x10

Thank You, all

I used XDA Forums for quite awhile for my Samsung Epix, updating that to WinMo 6.5, etc, etc.
I wanted an Android Phone since the G1 first came out, but not having a REAL cell plan (using GoPhone forever, just switched 2 mo ago to the new T-Mobile 4G Monthly), I had to wait for prices to drop (I'm also VERY cheap).
Well, 2 weeks ago, I found a G1 on eBay for $30 (I was the ONLY bidder..Works PERFECT, one minor crack on 'chin'), and got my phone. It is a Bronze (hate the 'lighted keyboard'), ran 1.6, and had a 'bulged' battery, but would hold a charge for a whole 15-20 min, as long as I didn't make a call...lol
So, I hopped on the forums here, and read. And read, then I decided to read some more. Decisions, decisions, decisions... First, I followed the Cyangenmod 6.1 guide, and put that on there. Nice. But a little..Slow? Laggy? It worked OK, but just wasn't right. So I looked at more ROMs. I looked at ICS, Ginger, but settled on Froyo, because I needed stable, and fast, because this is my 'main' phone.
Since I run Linux almost exclusively at home, ADB, and so forth, were not an issue, and the file system on the phone made sense to me. I finally chose the Froyo by Lazlo ROM, and ezterry's kernel, and flashed them. Boy, I am one happy little Droid now. Snappy, fast (once I partitioned my sdcard correctly, and went to ext4 and actually turned on the swap...lol). I also use Google Voice/GTalk a ton at home (I said I was CHEAP), so found Talkatone, which works just right for wifi calls when I run out of the 100 minutes on my Prepaid plan.
So, within 3 days I had a Froyo, wifi-calling, Android running little phone. That battery life I could measure in seconds. So, off to Amazon, and bought one of those extended-2400 mAh batteries and back covers. What a difference! HOURS of use! Days, even!
So, for around $50 (including shipping for phone, and cost of new battery), and about 2 hours of actual "work", I have a Froyo G1, that I'm VERY happy with!
Thank you, Google, HTC, XDA-Developers, Lazlo, ezterry, and whoever made the battery.
For an 'old' phone, it sure does work great!
+1

marketplace alternative?
have the current froyo by lazlo on my G1, but when trying to add talkatone the marketplace (Now Google Play?) says this is not compatible with my htc dream.
Any suggestions or workarounds? thanks!

Same, tried looknig it up on the play store on my phone, it wasn't shown on there. lol. Groove IP doesn't have good quality for some reason.
apk
Talkatone is in the market, just doesn't show up since these phones are really only supposed to allow 1.6... Just went looking for the apk and suprised to find it available on Talkatone's website. Works great, came here to post, and had a message from the OP - Thanks. pretty slick old phnne for $10! I downloaded the "side loading" version from w w w.talkatone.com/android-side-apk.html (sorry not allowed links ) Must have "allow installing" checkbox checked.
UPDATE
I stuck with Froyo By Laszlo (FBL) for quite awhile, and then have been "experimenting" with different ROMS.
So far, most of the GB roms (for me, at least) seem to be either too laggy, or have random reboots, lockups, or memory is HORRIBLE. At least, having my 'giant' battery makes battery life a moot point, so I don't figure that into whether I 'like' a ROM or not.
So far, it seems a tie between FBL and ezTerry's "Official AOSP 2.2 OTA" as far as stability/speed is concerned. The first time I used the AOSP rom, it had some 'odd' behaviors, but when I retried it, it may have been a 'bad' download.
AOSP does a better job with moving all programs, data, and caches over to the SDCard, too, so the apps have more 'memory' to play in.
I'll update this thread as I learn more, and my thoughts and 'concerns' with the ROMs I try out.
Happy Modding!

Most stable rom?

HTC evo 4G is a old ass phone. Just wondering whats the most stable rom for this now that the hype is over and dead lol

I'd used some ASOP and ROMs built on newer versions of Android but I always seem to go back.
Still the best form factor out there!

I still refuse to give up on the Evo Supersonic. It has the best form factor out there! The SD card, removable battery and kickstand make it the best out there for several functions.
Just the usual disclaimer. I have done nothing to develop the below ROM's and just passing on some good work by great people that are well worth tossing a dollar or two to support their development.
One I have loaded a "media player" ROM on it which can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850220
It wont activate your cellular bands and shuts down most "phone" functions. I then loaded alarm clock pro which can be found here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vp.alarmClockPlusDock&hl=en
It makes a great bedside alarm clock with a nice "floating" time display that is highly customizable and even comes with its own white noise generator!
The second I use as a full fledged media player and "gym phone" with a ring.to account loaded on it so it will still function as a phone with the wifi network at the gym if I MUST get calls or texts. The ROM I use for this is a Kit Kat ROM and looks and runs great! Its by EverVolv and Team Nocturnal.
it can be fond here
http://forums.team-nocturnal.com/index.php?/topic/1752-romkitkat-444-updated-110814/
Hope this helps! I would love, love, love to see a Lollipop ROM come out. I saw an old article saying CyanogenMod made one, but the link isnt active on it (Sigh).
Dave
Thanks for the tips Unidave199! I've also installed the Ubersonic media player ROM you mention onto my old-ass HTC EVO 4G original, and it runs great! I didn't have to flash GAPPs because it already had the play store and I could install whatever else I needed that way.
Ubersonic ROM has allowed me to run the Ingress game/app on the EVO like it's a little tablet with GPS, by tethering the EVO to the wifi of my current phone, without needing a phone plan. Nice way to upgrade to a more recent version of Android that is compatible with Ingress.
I'm curious though, in terms of different versions of Android, is there a particular version of Android that is at least version 4.0 or higher, that is particularly forgiving on the hardware? Like, uses the least amount of phone resources/memory/CPU so that I get more performance?
Difficulty here in finding valid links to ROMs that run on the original HTC EVO 4G. Most links are dead, so you can't find a download source for the ROM anymore.
I tried the Nocturnal ROM, which is KitKat 4.4.4. However, I cannot get it to create a google account, as it just says that Google servers are not accessible, so I can't access the Google play store using that ROM. Maybe I'm using the wrong version of the 4.4.4 GAPPs? Anyone running Nocturnal ROM and were you able to add a google account and access the play store to install more apps?
