Google are about to make an announcement about android.
If anyone's interested...
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/28/google-announces-android-event-for-february-2nd/
Live stream at:
http://www.youtube.com/android
Starts in 5 mins...
EDIT: for those who missed it the replay can be watched here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfJuigJebRg
Alright, nothing really mindblowing, some cool features like video calling in gtalk.
Yeah, not reallyy impressed, but I think it's more an app developer conference. So I expect they will kick-ass at Google IO

Yes, sort of hoping for an announcment but it was just a look at honeycomb for tablets. Glad the android market is accessible from a web browser now.
Guess we'll have to wait for google I/O for the big one...
Is there any place to watch it for those who missed the live stream?
Where to catch the replay? I'd like to know what's new.
Actually one can see the replay using the youtube link in the first post.
Replay here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfJuigJebRg
The conference may not have had that much to do with us; but I think it does mean that there will be a lot more high quality apps being made with the 3d system and the sliding window things.

I often wonder what kind of people voluntarily watch FOX news.
I love how they never really actually rationally explain that this is done with a .jar install and that the target phone would have to be streaming audio upstream. I really doubt anyone on xda would be fooled or victimized by such a technologically trivial "hack", but then again I guess it made a good dramatic "story" for FOX watchers.
thats awesome..lol its eagle eye the movie coming to life!
There are a couple apps that could be used to "spy" on you... but you would see them all in your apps drawer... so it is pointless.
Verizon let go of the deathgrip they had on Sykpe! Free for anyone now!
Android > iPhone. This is a HUGE deal.
Woot that's awesome

And you can only do voice chat over WiFi (in the US). Most of the time, that's what I'd be using Skype for, but not always.

Huh? iPhone has had Skype for a long time now. The Verizon deal was only with Android and Blackberry (?).
Pretty useless to me without video chat... thats the only thing I use it for.

Yeah, it most likely will be hacked. It's still sad they don't support it officially.

Yeah.. if you're forced to use WiFi, you probably have a computer around to video chat anyway. Right now this app is pretty useless. Come on Google.. release mobile Gmail video chat already.
I dont get why they wont just add video to gtalk... that'd make EVERYTHING a ton simpler for all of us.

What do you mean? I used Fring to video chat with 2 different iPhone 4 users this past weekend. What death-grip on Fring are you referring to?

What's the percentage of people with phones that have front facing cam? Now what's the percentage of people with a desktop/laptop that has a web cam? There's your answer.
I'm hearing rumblings that Skype for mobile is STILL exclusive to Verizon. They get 3G/WiFi Skype, the rest of us get WiFi.
Yeah its useless thats the point of Skype video chat
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
if you can put up with the low quality Qik has a desktop client now, Mochiva is also pretty low quality but they have a desktop client, it really is a pain to not have skype going, they announced some new feature that allows a HUGE amount of multicam chat, i forget the number i think they claim 30? anyways its crazy, i know a few programs have multiple cam chat but ive always stuck with skype
Maybe I am missing something?
For those saying Skype only works over WiFi, am I missing something? This is a direct quote from the Skype App "Free* Skype-to-Skype calls over 3G or WiFi"
I haven't tried making a call yet on 3G so are you saying that its not supported on the EVO over 3G? It does say its not supported on the Samsung Galaxy S, but no where says anything about EVO.
I must be doing it wrong. I downloaded Skype from Android Market, and installed it, but it won't let me sign in.

It sucks its just WiFi. I am using the Skype Beta Lite that allows to use on 3G.
So yesterday i received a cr-48 from google. I about **** myself. Being one of the lucky ones i decided to start a blog that compared my evo and the netbook. What I'm looking for is ideas to do comparisons on. From simple to complex and anything in between. After a day of pretty intense use i haven't been able to find much on the basic side of things that one trumps the other on.
So shoot me ideas on what i could try to make these 2 devices do battle with. Post 2 will be reserved for things covered and things to be covered. I will try to keep up with this as much as possible and post my review and comparison at http://evovscm48.blogspot.com/
Link to album...https://picasaweb.google.com/Vitaminjay1982/LETTHEBATTLEBEGIN
Let me know if that link is broken!
Covered:
UPDATE!!! Initial Product Review! http://evovscm48.blogspot.com/2011/02/chrome-os-notebookmy-review.html
To cover:
Google Voice and Video Chat
At least give us a picture of the thing, sheesh.
How is the call quality on the netbook? I know...bad comparison. I bet the evo wins.
This gives me a great idea! I got these apples the other day, I'm gonna go out and get me some oranges and do a comparison.
I kid, I kid.

I know, I was just messing with you I'm pretty pissed, I signed up the minute they launched their pilot program and I haven't gotten one. I wonder if they take browsing history into account when selecting who these go to... That might explain why I wasn't picked.

Wow, you got your Cr-48 late. I got mine 2 months ago when they first started shipping.
Have you discovered where the dev switch is yet?
Hell...I'm just happy I got one.
I just got mine too a couple days ago.
I haven't gotten one yet, still hoping to, but I've seen some other sites that say that the cr-48 has Bluetooth in it so that plus the Verizon card built into it might work for calls or voip.

lol no i meant soon as in a few days. Im wondering if they will have demo units at other stores too.
Hi all, you may have seen me about on these forums before. Basically I'm one of the Samsung Mobilers for the UK.
I've got a chance to go to MWC 2012 in Barcelona (which of course i could report back on all the latest mobile news), but i just need people to watch my video on the galaxy note and maybe give me some feedback? (it's a demo video for samsung really to show i'd be suitable to go to MWC) I'd be very grateful.
I'll also have plenty of other samsung reviews on my channel and are willing to take requests for videos/blogposts of any features on the following samsung gadgets: Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung 3D bluray player and Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop.
Heres the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ope5cpwcBg
Many Thanks in advance
Stacey
I've posted a comment on your video to make it look good.
Thank you kind sir
first off, you need to get a better camera.
not criticizing, just giving an advice, people tend to skip a video if the quality is not good!
other then that, u got the skills....
Stop saying "you know..."
Point out that the Super AMOLED screen can be seen in full daylight, even with polarizing sunglasses on (unlike a certain fruit named devices)
Might be worth trawling through this thread for GNote ideas:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1407787
And I'd advise scripting your video so you don't get those pauses when you're thinking about what's next.
Might also be worth recording each "feature" as a separate chunk of video then stitching it together.
That way you can "retake" any bits you don't like without having to re-do the whole video...
One like, one positive comment

Couldn't agree with you more
A couple of points.
* Lighting is very important, I don't like reviews where I can't see the device clearly.
* It's a big device, show how it would look talking with it, and where would you carry it.
* Edit your videos as recommended before.
Try to answer potential questions from the device.
