Hey so i just picked up an hd2 on craigslist. when the seller handed my the phone he showed me the phone working and then did a hard reset so i thought nothing of it and took the phone while it was resetting. then while waiting for it to boot i noticed it was taking quite a while so i took out the battery and let it reboot, it turned on then froze on the homescreen. i've tried several hard resets and have gotten the phone to the point where it works but only after putting in a removing the battery several times and the phone sticking on the "stick together" logo. I was going to try to do the newest tmobile update on the phone using the one available on their website but now i have an issue plugging the phone into the computer or wall adapter as it will make the phone freeze and ill have to go back through my removing the battery 5 times process. is this some sort of common issue with a common fix or should i take the phone to tmobile or htc and see what they can do for me. i dont have a receipt as a purchased the phone on craigslist so im not sure tmobile will do anything for me.
Edit: i can now connect my phone to the pc i'm trying to update to 2.13.531.1 but i got to 8% but the update froze there and the phone currently has no image version. I'm using windows 7 ultimate and ive tried to run as administrator and with xp service pack 3 compatibility.

I would put the phone in boot load manually by holding the volume down button while turning it on, and remove the memory card and then reflash the tmobile rom
can someone also help me figure out how to get the ruu.nbh file off this rom and how big it should be so i can try to flash it from the sd card. thanks

i found a .nbh file on my computer that was 4mb and renamed it leoimg.nbh then tried putting it on a freshly formatted fat 32 micro sd car and went into bootloader mode but the phone gives me an upgrade error, asks me to try again and just goes to a white "loading..." screen now the phone is stuck here. its like the newest issue is the one im stuck with. now i cant get the phone to sync with the computer or run the .exe to recognize the phone

What error did it give you? Found an nbh file? was it from a stock rom? Do you have Hard SPL on it? If it doesnt have HSPL on it then you will only be able to load a stock rom

no i have not run hard spl so i can only install a stock rom a suppose. the exe gets stuck at 8%, i have no idea where the right nbh file is. i read somewhere when you run the exe it installs the nbh in a temp folder but im not sure i found the right one. ive also downloaded task29 and tried to run as admin but it doesnt do anything just goes to the htc install screen and stays at 0% Getting frustrating it was working fine actually before i tried to install the new tmobile software update. ive read that task29 gets rid of extra leftovers of other roms and might help the exe finish up on the phone and get past that 8% wall but it doesnt seem to be working for me
right click the stock exe file choose extract here, will give 9 or so files, one of them is about 200meg and is called ruu_signed.nbh that's the file you want.
randomly flashing nbh files that you don't know what they are, that's about the stupidest thing you can do...... you deserve a brick for being an idiot.

lol thank you for the words of encouragement, so i've extracted the .nbh file its 268mb, renamed it to leoimg.nbh tried the update from the sd card and it fails at the radio says, update terminated, update FAIL. any idea where to go from here?
Edit: i've run hspl3 on the phone is boot loader mode and have also run task29 from doloop but still get the same error with the tmobile file. 8% using the exe and FAIL trying to flash from the sd card
heh you're welcome. (i was harsh to make the point,,, if you found a random bottle of liquid that said petrol on it, you wouldn't put it in your car till you were sure it was petrol, right?)
as to why it failed, i'm not sure, i think i'd probably hspl3, choose 2.08.hspl, then try flash a radio on its own (see the tmous radio thread) because it could be a bad radio.
just please confirm the exact filename of the .exe you extracted ruu_signed from?

The first exe file, which got to 8 percent then went red and failed was
T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_2.13.531.1
After hspl3 and using task29 i tried flashing this exe which gets to 99% and fails
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.02.531.MASD_S__Radio_Signed_15.29.50.07U_2.06.50.04_TeleNav-5.5.42
that second one, did you flash from sd card? cos its a manufacturing test rom, and if so then you may now be stuck with a test spl of 2.02, and if so things just got a heap worse,,,
go into bootloader and tell me what it says next to spl

i tried flashing using the .exe method in bootloader mode. next to spl it reads -2.08.hspl 8g XE
it now says
Upgrade ROM code error
ah ok, good.
so, it seems to be the radio causing the error, so since you have hspl installed, why not try a custom rom? they don't include a radio, so it may bypass the problem.

Which do you suggest, i bought the phone so that i could ultimately install android on it. but it seems i'd be lucky to even have wm running on the thing
Edit. just tried kumars classic rom, renamed to leoimg tried running off the sd card, The update finishes successfully but after i hit the reset button on the back of the phone i just see the tmobile stick together logo and the phone doesnt boot. Do a lot of people struggle with the hd2s or do i just have a bad example here?
well unfortunately i think you may have a dud. its the radio that is preventing it from booting.
it could be the radio from that test rom, it could be something else (but still the radio)
options...
its still under warranty, speak to t mobile and/or htc, but don't mention flashing and be sure to remove hspl if you do send it back. (run hspl3, choose 2.08.0000, that's stock)
or
look on here for a user called xmoo, he knows a lot about this sort of problem, (im just good with regular flashing issues)
im having the same issue so if you believe its the radio will installing different radio maybe fix the problem?
i;ve tried installing a new radio from the sd card. it goes red and fails
It sounds like a hardware issue at this point. I'm willing to bet you fried something when you pulled the battery in the middle of the master reset.
Hope thats something htc will cover. Phones on its way over
Hi guys, so my phone's touchscreen is basically dead and I need to send it off to warranty but all the buttons work. I was wondering what I should do to flash it back to stock Windows Mobile? I currently have a T-Mobile HD2, with aMAGLDR V1.10 and Android 2.2.
Thank you

All you need to do is flash a stock windows mobile rom to your device via your sd card. Also downgrading your HSPL is advisable.
Just stick the needed nbh file on your sd card renamed to leoimg.nbh, then enter bootloader by holding volume down button while powering on and follow steps.
Also using search function in future will help. Any person with some common sense would understand that this topic will have been created and discussed at lengthy before so no need to re-create when teh info already exists.
Go to HTC website and download the ROM for your HD2 (you need to use the phone's serial, thus making sure you have an approved ROM).
Now do a search on here for the SD Card ROM flashing method.
The only thing you need is a 2GB microSD Card (there is known problems with 8GB and greater SD cards).

Above 2 described solutions are INCORRECT - do not try this as you may brick your HD2...
Here is what you need to do:
1. Download HSPL3_PKG, ... google it!
2. Since it may come in rar arhcive extract and run as if you were going to flash the HSPL, hit next on first screen, now you get a drop down list, select 2.08.0000 not 2.08.HSPL. Once you have 2.08.0000 you are ready to install Stock ROM.
3. Run the program / install (by clicking next, next, next, etc)
4. Now just flash your Stock Tmobile WinMo ROM the normal way (via USB).
Stock T-Mobile ROM can be downloaded from their website by entering the IMEI on the website.

Euhm I think you are wrong.
The sd-card methode with the proper rom is the only way to flash it so it places the correct bootlader, radio etc etc etc
For the guy('s) opening the posts with 'how can I flash back for warranty purposes' I wish there would be a new torture feature on your keyboard so it would at least give you a 110V or 230V shock for a couple of seconds.
Browsing the HD2 forum I found a minimum 3 threads which ask exactly the same on the first page.

"Incorrect" is quite a bit... well, incorrect in this case.
Only if you are 1000% sure that you are correct, you should choose such words. But in this case, it is definitely a *fail*.
The way you describe does work, too, but it can be confusing for some users. Especially those who ask questions like the OP here...

@ "eenbox" . sd card method is less complicated and more secure me friend... it will write spl, radio, os .... and you are done.
You dont need to search google when you can search in xda ... or just visit sticky threads.
So you are all saying that he can download T-Mobile branded ROM from htc website and flash that one on his T-Mobile US version HD2?
If that works for someone - good luck; I know for a fact it did not for few people when they bricked their phones...

I've done the sd card method on my phone twice, and other peoples phones at least 4 more. They all reset stock spl, radio, and stock rom for warranty purposes.
Flashing a wrong stock rom will brick you for sure though.
The sd card leoimg.nbh method is flawless. Especially when your touchscreen or USB port breaks, its the only way for warranty if you want it replaced.

Hello, I'm new here and I'm about to buy a HD 2.
I could get one for 100€ but the seller says, that it hangs on htc logo but it is possible to get into the bootloader.
Is there a risk, that it's broken or something similar? Should i ask him something to make sure, if it's broken or not?
Thanks.
There is always a risk with buying second hand goods, the chances are the phone has already been toyed with and flashed to a point where either the wrong spl or hspl was installed for a specific ROM or maybe it they tried to install Android but got it wrong etc, Personally if you have time on your hands to try and rectify it then go for it, But unless you know what you are doing then I wouldn't bother with it.
Thanks, should i ask him, which H/SPL Version is installed?
The seller says, that he got the hd2 from a friend, who tried to flash a rom but it failed and they had no effort to "repair" it.
So do you mean, that there is finally a chance, that the device or/and the NAND is broken?
A friend of my bought a HTC HD2 recently and got flashed Android onto it. The only problem he has is that with Android he gets quite poor batt life. So if you are a heavy user, keep this in mind
Thanks.
The only question is, if the HD2 is broken.
I hoped, that you guys could except that.
Stuck on HTC logo is for example when you install sense rom and choose one of two options about apps on SD. They have done something bad during the install, or bad HSPL. The best way is to download from this forum Windows Mobile rom (no matter which, but best should be stock), flash it in bootloader (PWR+Vol-) via SD card. Then everything is default. And you can start flashing android step by step. It is not easy to break that dev, trust me I have it for 2 months, and it is still alive For a smartphone it is long for me I am using Dorimanx rom, and when you don't surf a lot of web, then it is OK for 2 days (battery life). When you use it much, then about 1 day (phone still looks for network, under ground).
Okay these are good news.
But don't you think, that a Tas29 would be better as first?
Oh and do you think, that selling my HTC Blackstone/Touch HD for the HD2 is a good deal?
I think that the system specifications of the Touch HD are not good enough to get sometime a good anroid nand rom. I tried the only nand build yet and I'm not very convinced.
EDIT:I asked the seller, what is displayed on the bootloader screen to get known of the H/SPL version (, right?).
I hopo to get a answer from him very soon.

I have never done Task29 and I have fast and stable rom. I even don't know what is this Just flash stock rom via SD in bootloader. Then during android install and all these HSPLs you can do Task29, but it's not necessary I think.

OK, but that is not important if you will flash windows onto it. It should be 2.08 HSPL for android, on other it doesn't work.
Okay thank you.
So can I finally buy it without risks?
How about prepare a SD card with leoimg.nbh first, then test it immediately when dealing? (If you are not buying it on ebay, i mean you go out and meet the seller, instead of shipping the product to your home)
My guess is it's foobarbed, if easily recovered then it would be done & up & running.
Is it EU or TMOUS version ? It is a big risk but as mentioned above if can physically meet & test device a little could reduce risk.
If a blind sale via eBay forget it unless you can afford the gamble or have use for parts ...
Buying used HD2s listed as fully working is risky enough & anything listed like this is normally scrap hoping for a gambling punter ! ...
Good idea! He is 25 kilometer (15 miles) away from me and it is cash only.
I hope, that he allows me to flash.
A official winmo rom would be the best, right?
How should i proceed? Flashing the rom and then testing if it works? or less?
Where can I get one, which will work with SPL and/or HSPL?
Thanks.
EDIT: @ Mister B: What does foobarbed mean? I'm not that good in english. The HD2 is EU and as above it is cash only so i hope that I can test it.
I don't know what does it mean too. Flash rom (Any WM6.5) but best would be stock, and boot it When it boots ok, then all right. But check Wi-Fi and these stuff if you want Stock roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283
Check if the touch is ok, and battery if is original etc.
Prepare a SDCard with a suitable rom version(ask for the seller which region of that HD2, and download the corresponding rom)
rename the exe to .zip
open the zip file, extract RUU_signed.nbh to the root of your SDCard
rename RUU_signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh
When you want to test the phone, insert the sd card, boot into the bootloader, do:
Hold VOL-, press the power button(hold both button)
Now, HD2 should powered up, it should tell you to:
"Press power button to start update image"
Press the power button, then start update
When the update is completed(with NO ERROR), restart the phone and see if the phone turned back to Windows Mobile 6.5 and all function are working.

Thank you. I downloaded the rom for my country and then i extracted ruu_signed.nbh from the .exe file.
Now i need to rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and copy it over to my micro sd card?
Is this right?
EDIT: Thanks hopkinskong. You were faster
Yes, that's right
Tips from me:
1. SD muntn't be partitioned, and must be foramted before copying leoimg.nbh
2. Watch out with time you hold these two buttons, because Vol- cancells update, so holding both, it will choose cancell, and it won't update. So just after the bootloader appears, immediately unpress the buttons.
Yes, thank you
I think, that i know that steps from my touch hd, so it shouldn't be a problem
If it has HSPL installed I would of first tried flashing a custom ROM such as NRGs WM6.5.x builds.
By flashing from SD and using original Rom you will overwrite HSPL & if then ROM is wrong vendor version you will have hassle.
Try keeping HSPL if it has it as can make recovery options less difficult.
"Foobarbed" is slang english, means broken, my bad & your english is very good ...

anyway, right click the .exe file,, choose rename, change the .exe to .zip, then double click the zip file to open it, find Ruu_signed.nbh, extract it, rename it to leoimg.nbh , copy it to an Sd card that is 4GB or smaller (important, bigger cards won't work)
card into phone, reboot into bootloader, flashing should staRt. tell us what the blue writing on grey background says.if you don't see it you did something wrong.

If you are absolutely sure that the ROM you downloaded (and the radio it contains) are the right ones for your phone, then go to the boot loader and see what it says for SPL. If you do not find HSPL, flash HSPL 2.08 and then try the ROM.
Flashing aborting or getting stuck early on is an indicator of the flashing process bring stopped by SPL...

Samsamuel can tell you better but it sorta sounds like yet another stuck radio seeing as it is hanging at the 5% to the 8% area during flashing. I am not sure exactly when but hang in there and let Samsamuel post again he can give you your list of options better than I, hope you get it going again my friend.

If it was a SPL issue then that means it is a CID or a MID issue and if it is that then the Rom would not even start to flash at all no matter if it is via RUU or SD card. If the CID or the MID is wrong it would through a error saying something like "CID mismatch" or "Model I'D mismatch" when trying to flash.

I do not want to highjack this thread so after this post I will be contacting you via PM, or if you use G Talk you can hit me up on that. If you have a TMOUS HD2 I have the 3.14 stock RUU for theTMOUS HD2 on my computer and I can upload it for you if you want. But I think the ROM you have is the same as the one I have.As far as checking your radio version if you can not boot your device at least to the T-Mobile screen with the red text at the bottom left corner then you can no check your radio version.

do you have any facebook account sir,,maybe we can contact each other thru facebook..,yeah maybe that should work 3.14 ruu sir..,can you upload it on mediafire sir if its ok to you..and i cant go thru that t mobile screen with red text sir, when i open my phone it just stuck on black screen with a message "software update failed please try again.." and whats up with the vibrating?? my phone keeps vibrating..
yea I'm with TMacgnolia, , sounds like a stuck radio (albeit it's sticking earlier in the process than expected, perhaps indicating the stuck spl variant.)
combined with the vibrating I'd be thinking hardware, so I'd be trying sd flashing using the freezer trick.

sir yeah we manage to install a custom rom but the problem now is i think its on the cpu..,is there any way to fix this hardware problem..,
I could use some help, having the problem described earlier. I can't get past the 4color boot loader screen, - for a fraction of a second it goes to the insalling screen then comes back to 4color with "Serial" in the white.
Here is what I have on my HD2: Android 2.3.5 Radio 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14
Here is what I have tried to install through sd card: RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.13.531.1_Radio_15.39.50.07U_2.10.50.26_Signed_LEO_Ship.zip (renamed .zip, was .exe) and T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_3.14.531.1.zip (renamed .zip, was .exe)
I tried 3 different sd cards; (2) 2 gig cards (1) 4gig cards. I reformated several times before copying and renaming the nbh file.
What next? Thanks
just to confirm, you rename the exe to zip, open the zip, extract Ruu_signed.nbh, rename that to leoimg.nbh, copy that t sd and reboot, correct?
also, please confirm that you do in fact have a tmous.
the brief flash usually means the file was renamed incorrectly, for example depending on the file extension settings, it has been known for a file to end up getting called leoimg.nbh.nbh
the fact that it flickers means it is detecting something, but finding a problem.

Thanks. That makes sense. I can't check for 6 or 7 hours until I get home for the day. I'm using W7, and have never really gotten how to view the real extension on a file, not like the good old DOS days. yes I have a tmous. After requesting the help, I tried the same card in my brother's HD2 that I need to restore as well, and got the same response, so it has to be the card/name not my HD2. I'll post back when I check it out. Thanks again.

I renamed the file, making sure there was only one .nbh extension. Still not working. I tried it with both tmos roms, I reformated the card, I tried it on both phones. Obviously, I have done something wrong with the file, but read and re-read the instructions and I can't find what it is.
Any ideas would be great.
Hello people, I have been going through threads and threads regarding similar problems, but having tried and failed with so many strategies, I will have to bother you all.
So the thing is I was using a CM Jellytime MOD (data on ext) in my HD2, and having frequent hangs and freezes that I thought were linked to LCD malfunction, so I ordered a new screen and digitizer to see if I could save the device. Unluckily, just before these arrived, the HD2 suffered one final freeze, after which every soft reset would give the white blank screen and nothing else. I thought that maybe I should task29 the device and re install the ROM. The bootloader can be still accessed and I re-flashed HSPL with no problems.
But I cannot get to Magldr, as you can imagine, as there is no way to go through the white blank screen. Every time I try to re-flash either the radio (2.15.50.xx), Magldr, or even task29, I get "update errors", and no changes. I tried both using the specific utilities or the NANDtoolkit, to no avail.
I even tried MTTY, which seemed to go well, but did not bring any changes to the situation. It is still the same.
This is my bootloader screen:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
CotullaHSPL 0x05
0x30
Any other info that you think may help I will post it ASAP.
I have read that maybe the NAND has finally died, but I'm not sure and would not abandon the cause without some feedback. Can someone help with this? I will greatly appreciate, I live in Argentina and I don't think I will be able to get another smartphone (I got this one from a good friend who bought himself another one) right now, or ever
If I'm lucky I may be able to sell the LCD and touchscreen replacement, ha.
Thank you all!
pd: sorry if I posted in the wrong thread but I was really confused with the whole subforum arrangement. I moderate a forum and I am aware of how painful it is to start moving threads around.
@leandrox :i recommend removing the sd-card if present, flashing hspl 2.08 again.
Then, flash radio 2.15.50 (even if you tried before, try again now). if that was successful, reflashing magldr should be the success.
Or else...
Also, try putting your hd2 in a freezer, sometimes there may be overheating problems from what i used to see

Hello @Gilbert, thanks for helping with this.
I have tried each flash with the SD and the SIM out, as I have read around about both interfering with flashing. So I guess that's not the problem.
I will try the "pre-cooling method" and tell you how it goes.
Is there any chance I should remove HSPL before re-flashing it? Also, does the battery charge while connected in bootloader mode? Because I am afraid I will finally run out of power througout the try and error processes.
Thanks again.

not sure about removing hspl... you can try that tho. as for battery, you're probably right. there's a possibility it runs out of power.
did you try flashing stock rom from sd or usb? (emphasizing on sd method)

I guess that would be the next wise step (and I'll do it with the right pre-cooling in the freezer).
Correct me if I'm wrong:
- I need a FAT32 (?) formatted SD.
- Then copy the official nbh to the root of the SD, renamed as "leoimg.nbh". (still looking for the correct download; maybe here o here?)
- Enter bootloader screen, with the SD on. After a little while, it should read "loadng" and the flashing can begin.
After this, hopefully, has worked, I should be able to:
- Reflash HSPL 2.08
- Reflash latest radio if needed.
- Reflash Magldr and Clk
- Install new Android ROM
... but I'm looking way ahead my actual hopes
EDIT: I could not download the ROM from any of the quoted sites. Maybe someone can indicate to me the right ROM from this list: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=windows mobile&model=Leo
My model is the 576 RAM one.

Correct. don't forget that the sd should be between 1 and 8 gb in size (that's what i remember, larger sizes could do weird stuff)

RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe this is the one i used IIRC
Ok @Gilbert, here's the update. No good news so far.
I tried flasing the mentioned official ROM from SD card and I get the "Update terminate / Update failed" message when installing. I also tried with a custom RUU but I got the same message.
I have been reading this thread where some guy apparently had the same problem and fixed it:
"After that I made a new goldcard using Duttys Leo Sense 2.5 Multi-Lang. "
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5384679&postcount=68
but I cannot understand what this actually means. I downloaded the mentioned Dutty ROM but it is a cab file that I don't know how to flash to the HD2.
I still have a tiny hope that the phone may actually come back to life. Again, thanks a lot for helping!

OK. Back to work then.
I will follow this tutorial. But I see I need an ActiveSync/MobileDeviceCenter connection. I don't think you can do that when you have no OS on the phone, right? Can I do this while in the bootloader?
Should I take any additional precautions attempting the process from W8-x64?
EDIT: It seems I need another phone to put the microSD on so I can get the correct CID with RevSkills (apparently you need the device to be connected through the MobileDeviceCenter or it fails). Then I may be able to ask someone else to get me a goldcard for said CID.

I remember there being tutorials for making a goldcard, that need to have a microSD adapter only, no other device, and others that tell you how to get cid from an android phone.that doesn't require PSAS like in the tutorial you're following

making goldcard is easy...
i remember getting cid and writing it reversed to http://huygens.hoxnet.com/goldcard.html (choose reversed cid iirc), downloading goldcard.img, opening sd with some hex editor (hxd i recommend) and writing goldcard.img content to it
you should read the tutorials available online, as what i said could be a lot wrong

I have tried to flash the phone with the Goldcard through this method. I am wondering wether I should expect something different after the bootloader starts, because I just get to the same point as I did when trying to flash it without the Goldcard, and getting the same failed "update terminate / update fail" message. Maybe I did not prepare the Goldcard well. Or maybe the phone mainboard ROM/NAND is simply ruined :crying:
I have to assume that the radio must be bricked. From what I read, this is the only thing that can actually brick your device when you still can get to the tricolored bootloader. Everytime I try to flash a ROM, it fails while flashing the Radio, so there has to be a hardware problem that prevents it. I still wonder how that happened.
I was running JellyTime, and then all of the sudden the phone froze and then just didn't turn on again (blank white screen). Can overheating ruin the NAND or ROM? Should I consider this battle as lost? I am so disappointed...
I read about one user who concluded that all you can do is flash a ROM with no radio, and keep the phone only as an Android device (no phone use). He told me I should get a dev or cooker to cook a radio-less ROM so I can do that. Does anyone know if there's a ROM like this I could use?
