May sound daft, but make sure nothing is blocking the proximity sensor (dust etc.)
Does it come back on when the call is ended?

Try using setcpu at smartass settings... I had the same problem in one of the builds... setcpu solved it...

Actually i have same situation. Tested many different roms (froyo and gingerbread). Now tested this on gingerbread with setcpu at smartass too. No good results. Sometime all works like charm using gpc_hd2_gingerbread_v13. Sometime helps back button before call ending. Sometime back button after call ending.
Yes i have screen protector. But i tested with no protector and results was same.
EDIT: But i can connect phone with usb and Android commander. All this way works.
EDIT2: Just now had two calls and all worked good. Setcpu at smartass is on powersave. Needs more testtime to get real results.

Setup Application (first boot)

Hi all,
I tried searching the forums for this particular weirdness but could find it.
I recieved my HD2 last week and had the crackling ear piece problem, with no help from T-Mobile i decided to flash the device with the latest HTC Rom it corrected the problem and everything is working fine.
There is one little thing i have noticed though which is weird, when booting the phone for the first time when it had the TMO rom it gave me a pre-setup application or firstboot application whatever you want to call it.
With the new HTC rom it doesnt give me this when i hard reset is this normal?
Thing is when i turn off the phone for a brief moment it shows the same setup application as running in the background?
switch teh phone into airplane mode and you should find the background app comes to teh front and you can complete it.
wouldn't a task manager allow you to switch to it?

Brilliant, thanks alot it worked a treat. I was wondering how to get it up again. Is it just a glitch then?

I am facing this only when battery is bellow 15%. If this is the case then just charge it before it goes to 15%.
If that's not the case then you can try installl MAGLDR v1.3
Do you have this issue in Froyo or Gingerbread ROMs? or in both? What version of CWM are you using?
I have the same problem on MIUI since after approximately 1.3.18 (cutover from Froyo to Gingerbread). Also have this problem on CME DHD2 Compact.
It is also an issue if someone tries to call me.
Sometimes, if I try waking the phone from sleep (power button) and it hits the black screen, and I wait long enough, it will wake. But again, the only real fix I know is pulling the battery.
I am running MAGLDR 1.13
Also, another fix that works sometimes is plugging in the phone into a power source e.g. laptop USB port
It's something about light sensor, when you put your screen into a strong light it would be turn "unblack" again. I don't know how to fix it, is this a problem with this hardware because it's broken or my version of LEO doesn't support NAND full functionaly.
Begging for answer!
i know about my poor english
I have this problem too.. running latest Hyperdroid rom by pongster (magdlr version) and it's driving me crazy. Sometimes phone wakes up normally after a call like it shoud, sometimes is stuck with black screen for few minutes, hours even (although i can't wait that long so i pull out battery)..
Back on WinMo everything worked normally, so it's not an hardware issue with proximity/light/whatever sensors
Is there any fix out yet? I googled and searched this forum a lot and haven't found nothing much helpful, ony a couple of threads with bunch of people with same problem like me. An option for disableing those sensors would be just as good, i've tried few apps for keeping the screen awake and none of them actually worked..
Any help is appreciated.. thanks in advance.
Bump!
Anyone? :/
I have the same issue - running Gingerbread, MAGLDR 1.13
Very annoying cause everything else works super.
Temporary solution i use is to use headset / handsfree. Then there is no problem.
So experts on XDA, we are begging for a fix for this!
I have the same issue since first Android roms and never found a real solution for the problem.
Instead i found a bypass that works for me reasonably well (99% of the cases the screen turns on after a call).
I installed the following 2 applications that wakes up my screen after the call (install then enable each one):
1. Screebl - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keyes.screebl.lite
2. Modified version of SpeakerShake - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=449922&d=1290758421
I suspect this issue is somehow related to hardware failure in light sensor. Installing these programs solve this problem for me.
Also take a look on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835127
I have had the same thing happen to me but only around 2 or 3 times in a about 3 months of usage. Had it on both CM7 and MIUI Gingerbread ROMs regardless of battery percentage.
MAGLDR 1.13
Some users experience this using SetCPU
if you have a profile for screenoff and it's set to the lowest frequency, try to set the frequency to something above 500 MHz.
If you have smartass set as governor, then even setting the frequency to it's highest (without OC) during screenoff wouldn't change anything in battery performance, but the device will wake up faster.
Your setup works for me as well - until we`ll see a fix for it this will do

Incearca Sanity app, cauta pe Market, mie aceste doua nu mo ajutat
with me is so but only if I navigation (Navigon) and to have someone call me and then left the screen black and I can not make
try to change the kernel. that works for me
hey guys! i found the solution goin through the market!
download an app called "Sanity" theres a free version in the regular android market.
go to the settings > general > check "Reverse Proximity" (This will give you some warning about not using it if you DONT have a buggy proximity sensor). Check it anyways. Then go back to preferences then click "Proximity" scroll down and uncheck Turn off screen and leave leave the Turn on screen checked. this will force your phone to stay on during calls so that it never has to go through the proximity phase of calls this no more black screens. Hope this was helpful ^_^
Thanks!
I had this problem aswell. MIUI & Cyanogen mod were the ROMs I was using, and this problem started occuring after a few months use (my screen is also damaged from a fall, so maybe the sensors are a little damaged as well).
When I installed the WinMo 6.5 stock ROM again, everything was normal, except that my screen still turns black during calls BUT I can activate it again by pressing the power button.
Now I installed android again and the Screebl app (enabled it) and I have the same functionality! The only problem that remains is that my screen still turns black during calls, so I have to answer with the phone button and putt down phone with the power button. Still beats having to remove the battery though .
If someone has a fix for the black screen, it would be more than welcome!
But, thanks a million for the Screebl app tip! I can use my phone again .

I also try with WinMobile and the problem was still there ...
I think the sensor is broken ....
I will bring my phone to service ... and when i take it back I will tell you whether it is repaired
Solution
I had the same problem with Android roms on my HD2. I saw in an other thread a member (z-o-r-r-o-, thanks btw) wrote "just clean dust on the screen, where sensor is situated". This looked like a joke to me, but it's not. On a review of the phone I found the place of the proximity sensor. This is on the top of your screen next to the speaker, on the left if you look at the screen. I just took off the protection layer of the screen and cleand the sensor and the problem was solved. So I cut of a bit from the protection layer so that the sensors arn't touched by anything.
I think the problem is that this sensor is much more sensitive with android roms.
Hope this works for you to.

[Q] System goes crazy when receiving a phone call

hi all
i have been using nand android builds since day one , and in most of the builds i am having this same issue
sometimes when i receive a phone call the system just hangsout and then gives me a force close msg for the phone application !!
either way , if i force close or not , no further phone calls can be answered and the phone will freeze for about 30 seconds with every call
also when this happens the volume buttons wont modify the volume for the media anymore and the phone wont give any sounds
so is there something i can do to get rid of this ?
i tried android builds based on 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 , miui , sense , no sense , and i have this issue with all of them
again , it happens like 10% of the times
hope i get an answer to this
I want to ask what exactly rom are you using (does it use newest tytung r10 kernel?) and tell you that I have not been experiencing these issues with NexusHD2 2.8 rom (2.3.4).
fpu
i tried typhoon , rafdroid , ndt miui , and plenty more and i think typhoon and ndt miui has the latest kernel
have you ever tried receiving a phone call while the camera application is running
this seems to trigger the issue many times , not always tho
if you have the call recorder running turn it off. it was causing me lot's of problems.
Hi,
I have the same problem.
No matter what kernel.
Already hardresettet and reinstalled everything. Radio, Magldr, Rom, you name it.
I even did format 10 (or what ever it's called)
Anyone else experiencing this?
Will get a logcat later.

Are You using Magldr? I had that problem with mag. Than i switched to cLK. and im okay.
I just recieved a phonecall without problems.
Flashed the .12 radio from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787&highlight=radio
however... My rom feels a bit slower now.
I am playing with it now.
Maybe clearing Dalvik cache will help. Or the issue comes back... Will see.
Got the same problem, tried different ROM's but no result. I'm thinking already to switch back to WM 6.5 :\

Yes that's it. Works fine for me
Mea culpa just today I had the same issue, for first time.
It's nothing major and reboot made it work fine again, but breaks my belief in HD2 as perfect, native-like Android device.

Beside changing of radio, THIS seems to be interesting.
I'm on MAG but considering switching to cLK (for many reasons - fastboot support being one, second that I don't need 99% of MAGLDR features).
Let's see how it all pans out ;-)
fpu
It just happened again! On the new rom... :/
There is a thread, however, stating that it's due to skype.
This can very well be true.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164058
but I need skype to stay on contact with my girlfriend... why can't android support skype natively instead of sipthings? -.-
Well still... anyone tried clk (instead of magldr) and skype?
Disable "Audible touch tones". It's under Sound in Settings, it did the trick for me.
I thought this was against robot voice?
well what ever. let's give it a try. Thx
In my case, first call after reboot always had the robot voice. To fix it I'd just hang up and call again. But lately on non-Sense ROM's, the first call would go with robot voice and then I would get Force close on the phone app. This fixed it for me.
BTW I have T8585 Leo with 2.12 radio.

For me recieving a call does nothing but a very bad noise. hd2 nearly freezes after that. I cannot hang up most of the times. If I somehow manage to, phone app forcecloses and connection cannot be reestablished until I pull out the battery...
Good old Robotvoice. I wish that was my problem.
i have switched to cLK about 3 days ago and till now i have got no problems at all

[Q] ...::: Problem with red button for calls :::...

Hi, guys
I have a problem with the calls. When dialing numbers and put the phone to my ear and screen turns black and doesnt lights up when I click on the screen, the end button or any other button. I tried other kernels and reinstal the rom and there is no change. It works only when I am with headset and just lights up the screen - does not close.
I'm with haldric's rom by the way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316632 which is great.
Any suggestions ...

Yea, But I have the same problem with older versions. Last time, before installing 2.2 I went back to WM 6.5 and started all over again with the task of 29 new recovery 5.0.2.6 ...
I tried the rom of dansta34 v2.2, but it was the same.
I have a friend with the HD2 and it has the same problem.

However I do have an idea, Check your screen off settings in setCPU if you have it set to the lowest it could be struggling to work the screen and the call all at the same time.

[Q] Touch screen not responding that well

Hi!
With my HTC HD2, whenever I try to, for instance, type a message, the keyboard on my HD2 barely reacts or hits the wrong key. Installing a swype-like keyboard like TouchPal may solve this but for some apps like games this may get an issue later on.
I'm running tytung's NexusHD2 v2.3-HWA, which runs fine (thanks!). Just this issue.
No idea if this also occurs in WM6.5, but not going to switch back just to check that
How can this be fixed?
Aside from that, is there any way to speed up the ROM? It's fast enough as of now but speed is always useful
Thanks!
Was am issue with my ROM, flashed another one and now it works fine!
Sent from my HD2 using xda app-developers app
Try disabling the keypress vibration or sound when typing. It helps ALOT for me.
same problem for me
i had the same issue with ROM,after flashing to another one it works great
In the future, just run a ROM from SD and see if that changes things, that way you don't lose your current ROM.
But yeah glad you fixed it
From an SD card it's even worse, lmao

Most likely you won't be able to fix this(unless you replace digitizer, but it's not 100% solution!).
Sometimes, it's true very rarely, some HD2 hardware is not fully compatible with android(more often touchscreen function related!), but could be fully working on WM.
Even it seems a bit hassle, you should flash a WM and see what happens!
Thanks for your reply.
It works fine now, so I am not going to fiddle around anymore
