Do you all have unusually long boot times on the mt4g?
From power button push to lock screen appearing my phone takes just under two minutes!
My wife's mt4g takes about 20 seconds less to start up, but she does have fewer apps and services. Can you post your boot times or recommend ways to reduce the boot time? I already have fast boot enabled. I'm just shocked that the boot time its so long. I'm pretty sure it's normal though...
do you have fastboot selected in settings?

Yep. See post above. What's a typical boot time from power button press to lock screen?
I don't use fastboot but I can tell you that the boot time on the mt4g is long compared to other phones I've seen. Both mine and my wife's take around 1 1/2-2 mins. I think it's the mysense ui that does it.
Swyped on my rooted MyTouch4G

Ya i believe you have to be using sense. From what i understand when in this mode the phone never really powers down, just goes into a hibernation state like laptops and therefore can "reboot" very quickly
When I had the stock rom boot time was quick, way faster than when I had my g2
Can someone post up their boot time(s) on a non-rooted stock sense mt4g?

I saw a thread on this for the Vibrant but that method doesn't seem to work for the Fascinate.
On the G1 you could hold down the call+Menu+hangup and it would reboot.
On the Vibrant you apparently can hold the power button down for 10+ seconds and it reboots.
Anyone know what it is for the Fascinate?
if it takes 10+ seconds to reboot wouldn't it just be faster to turn it off then back on?
well if your phone freezes it's much easier to hit a combo of buttons instead of pulling the battery. and if it freezes u wouldn't be able to reboot normally. plus it's much quicker when you're installing roms as it's an instant reboot and doesn't have to kill everything

if it freezes whats to say the button combo would work either? seems like if the normal shutdown and boot up isnt working your best real option is to remove the battery.
why the hell don't we have a reboot option when we hold the power button down?
Is there a way to add that?

On the G1 if it froze, the button combo did a reset. No need to pull battery I liked that feature a lot.
When I used to have my BlackBerry there was a key combo to reset it. Wish my Fascinate had one too. Then again, I dont usually have to reset my Fascinate as often as I did my BB.
My G2 is running the stock ROM, not rooted. I rooted my G1 and ran every ROM I could get my hands on, but with free WiFi tethering and a clean OS, I find no reason to root my G2... yet.
Lately, I've been encountering a really slow boot time - almost 2 minutes from power button to OS up and running. I do have a lot of widgets, but I don't have an excessive amount of apps. Do the widgets slow the bootup? They're not even ready when I unlock the screen (after the network becomes available), and I've already waited 2 minutes.
My wife's G2 takes about 20-30 seconds to boot up. What gives?
It's the widgets. The more you have, the longer the boot time will be in order for everything to load up!
Thanks! I got wise and rooted/installed CM7. Bout damn time. WAY faster than before.
Yeah I noticed the same thing when I tried out CM6 (which I'm using now).
Before it was taking more than a minute, now it's up pretty quick.
I think many of you are misinterpreting the "Random Reboots" you're experiencing. Unless the screen goes completely blank, then it is not a true reboot, if all it does is flash back to boot animation it is just the graphical shell crashing.
Good point, I did notice that it booted up significantly faster than a full reboot when it happened to me before and that it only dropped to the boot animation.
That makes a lot of sense actually

Thanks for the suggestion - that does make some sense. Is there a way to verify this, though? In my case, my DInc will be in a stand on my desk - screen off, so I can't actually see what happens - when I'll hear it vibrate, and I'll notice the white HTC screen followed by the boot animation. It's only done this since I rooted, and it has done it with at least three of the ROMs I've used.

Yeah, same deal. I have learned to do "real" reboots, especially after rooting. What I mean is actually turning it off, counting to like 20 (maybe pull the battery), and then turn it back on.
Recently I had an issue with the capacitive buttons not lighting up at all so I tried a "quick" reboot (the kind that requires root) and it did nothing, then I tried a "real" reboot and they work fine now.
Agreed. I can confirm the Atrix is not doing a full reboot. I had a call on speaker phone then all of a sudden my screen showed the boot animation and I could hear the other person talking for an additional 15-20 sec while the phone finished "booting". Our conversation was not ended until the home screen came back up, at this point my bars/service dropped to no service. Also, I have not rooted or modified the Atrix, its stock.. w/LauncherPro+.

I had those "reboots" twice now. Once while using Maps and once while sitting on my desk not being used. I was also using LauncherPro+. I wonder if that might have been part of it. I stopped using LP+ and haven't had a "reboot" yet (knock on wood)
Anyone else think the xperia play has the longest ever bootup? It can take up to 5 minutes to load on mine!
how long does your phone take to boot?
Couple of minutes maybe, rooted & some bloatware removed.
My boot up time depends, maybe on the plays mood?, it's between 2-5 min? Never really the same boot up time
Really liked htc fastboot option, took less than 30 secs. Missing that one...
Regards Dousan...
mine takes exactly 4 min.... i never seen an android phone boot so slow....
Little over a minute after removing lots of bloatware.
Its so long that I want to root it just to remove the bloat.
mines is really random, sometimes it takes a minute, sometimes upto 2
when i gotit it took up to 5 lol
ive removed most apps btw
50 seconds. Used this thread to help identify a lot of bloatware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699
the boot time will depend on what you were doing before you switched your device off, for example if you had just installed lots of apps, the dalvik vm will have to rebuilld the DC on bootup so it will take longer ect
It was the weirdest thing ever. I literally mean 2 seconds.
The phone was COMPLETELY off. It showed the short sprint boot animation at lightning speed and went immediately to my lock screen. I proceeded to enter my code to find sense already loaded and most of my background processes/notifications loaded or loading.
I had to share this with the community. I don't know how it happened.
I'm running stock, rooted gingerbread without a custom kernel.
When I turned off my phone, I did it by holding the power button and shutting it down. Normally I just pull the battery.
Also, it normally takes about 3-4 mins for my phone to boot up just to the lockscreen (it stays at the "4G" animation frame).
Has anyone else had this lightning fast boot?!
You probably have fastboot on lol. You'll find it in settings, then applications.

Yeah, I see it is checked.
I didn't even know fastboot existed. Is this a new gingerbread feature?
Why wouldn't this ALWAYS be on by default?
And I wonder why it hasn't done it before?
I've been on gingerbread for about a week now, and I haven't checked that box manually...hmmm

Yes its a GB feature. I don't use it as it doesn't play nice with all apps. I'd rather do a normal reboot.

Yeah your phone wasn't completely off. It sort of hibernates but still keeps things in memory. Turn it off and pull the battery. It won't boot up as fast
I really wish they named it something else, like "QuickBoot" or whatnot. Now it just creates confusion when talking to users about fastboot (what you can use while in the bootloader).
Also, this feature seems to make it harder for people to reboot into recovery if they used to use power + voldn. Since the phone isn't all the way off, it won't put you into the bootloader. -- Easily worked around by turning it off, or using an app or using adb reboot recovery, of course.

I couldn't agree more!! As soon as they mentioned fastboot I immediately became confused: That's an option in the bootloader......?!! hahah
This would also explain why I've had trouble sometimes entering the bootloader using the keystrokes.
And yes, I did a battery pull, and it takes the normal 3-4 mins to boot.
Thanks again for the replies guys! Really did explain a lot! I did a search and nothing came up, so hopefully this can be used as a reference!
You'll want to uncheck that, if you ever want to be able to boot into recovery
