[Q] Newbie question - Wildfire General

Hi I've unlocked created a gold card an updated to froyo via shipped roms
using the cable method if that makes sense.
Now I know there's no clockworkmod yet but my question is.
Can I revert back to 2.1 via shipped roms then clockworkmod then custom ROM

Nope, If you upgraded to 2.2.1 with RUU, you can't root until unrevoked find out how to root. Just wait, as we all are.

So IF this 2.1 update ever comes...

Will I lose root by installing it? At the moment I have RA-Hero 1.6.2 and the rooted HTC 1.5 ROM
Yes, you must wait for someone who root it so don't update but you can flash some roms like VillainRoms or Cronos or Modaco which are based on the 2.1 update !

Of course you can. Nandroid backup or look for official FroYo modified without new hboot.
Because if you flash the new official Froyo (RUU) or OTA update, you won't be able to root it nor install any other ROM. Otherwise, you can install an older 2.1 RUU, which can be rooted then.
Ask me for more help if you need

As far as i have experienced with my wildfire, once u flash RUU froyo on your wildfire,u cannot flash back an Eclair RUU as the latest HBOOT wouldnt allow you to overwrite with a previous version.
If I am wrong ,please correct me.
I dont want to downgrade to 2.1 but get back 2.2 original

Yes, you can't downgrade with the official RUU, because of the new HBOOT. But there are now SAFE roms extracted from RUU, so is the RUU without new HBOOT, so can be rooted.

But now, which version you have? Official update 2.2.1? If you have updated by wifi when the phone showed "Update available", you can't do anything now, until the official Froyo can be rooted.
If that's not your case, explain in which situation are you right now.

[Q] How to downgrade to 2.2

I upgraded my wife's g2 to the official tmobile gingerbread release (used the pre rooted deodexed gingerbread rom) and need to return the phone to tmobile for an exchange. Before the upgrade to gingerbread I rooted and enabled permanent s-off.
1. Will I have any issues just flashing the stock tmobile 2.2 rom through clockwork recovery?
2. Once downgraded will I have to root again to go back and undo the permanent s-off
3. Is there a rooted stock rom available to flash? Want to be able to restore apps + settings while awaiting a replacement?
dig around the forums for an original PC10IMG.zip of the shipped rom and flash that through bootloader
Any issues using the rom in this thread. Looks like its a flashable .zip file.

Can I flash the above rom through the bootloader? Want to make sure I don't brick the phone before I do this.

Hi !
You can not downgrade at all because the install of an older PC10IMG.zip will give you a "main version too old" error.
Normally you solve this by using misc_version to change the main version string in the misc partition.
But to do this you need (temporary) root access.
All published temp-root methods (rage and it's derivatives like visionary, z4root, ... - psneuter - gingerbreak) have been patched in the official T-Mobile G2 Gingerbread release.
So enough background info for now - This firmware version is not rootable and can not be downgraded (for now).
Have fun - Guhl
Of course we will post and update if the situation changes
I have this gingerbread rom installed. Can anyone confirm that this version cannot be downgraded.
Flashable version of PC10IMG_Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.13.531.8 Leak, that football posted, and yes this is the final release.

Wait, you got a rooted version of it installed?
If yes, you can use misc_version to set the main version back to a lower or equal value of the rom you want to install and then install the PC10IMG.zip through hboot.

how i thought you need temproot for that
So I flashed the rooted gb rom above through clockwork. Will I brick my phone if I flash the stock rom I linked above through clockwork? Is it really this hard to go back to stock?
I think there is a lot of miscommunication going on here. I think the problem is that users are having a hard time differentiating between the unrootable leak and the rooted leak.
I'm having to send my g2 back also, I'm rooted, s-off'd, and using the rooted version of the tmob gb leak. ive got cwm installed too, should I be able to use the pc10img to completely wipe, set s-on and go back to 2.2?

Pay Attention!it is said once U updated 3.1,u cant restore 3.0 with update.zip.

i think it's because root is gone if you update... even itsmagic is not confirmed will work or no..
ok well first off if you are talking about not being rooted and being able to flash down to 3.0 You are probably right because companies block you. But if you are rooted and using something like cwm that doesnt check the zip just lets you flash it then ummm 3.0 is possible. Just need to make sure you use a rooted 3.1 not the stock... So all you impatient bastards wait lol You have been warned.
I went from Stock Rooted Acer to Virtuous Picasso 3.1 and back again multiple times no issue. I am currently running stock rooted. I will probably go back to VP with version 1.0.5 since it is based on actual Acer 3.1 and new kernel.
Edit: Sorry was assuming people talking about rooted 3.0 to 3.1. Of course installing a non-rooted update will potentially wipe out your root. Never update stock ROMs or do OTAs if you plan to keep rooted. Always wait for developers to make a rooted verison available.
People need to be more patient.

no.
i mean, u cant restore 3.0 with update.zip in stock recovery.
because 3.1 has not been rooted,u cant flash CWM recovery.
if u upgrade to 3.1 with original method in stock recovery from 3.0,u cant down to 3.0 with update.zip in stock recovery.
i think acer is going the apple way by not allowing downgrade of version..
can confirm it. have tryed to come back to 3.0 from stock 3.1 without success on the middle of proces got bee with exclamation. now have a problem to get a root for 3.1 stock

Which ROM is on your phone now? Have you flashed custom ROM's before? If you answer no, then, I suggest, do some reading on this portal to gain some knowledge first before playing with your phone.
I think the phone have already on a modified a ROM.
I have flashed a custom rom on my old htc Blackstone (Windows Mobile 6.5). But i think that flash an Andriod Rom is different, and also the phone is different.
1. hv u installed blackrose? (a custom bootloader) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270589
2. hv u repartitioned ur hboot to 220/16/200m (check the thread for exact values)
3. hv u partitioned ur sd for ext4?
these are the compulsory requirements of the ics roms.
generally flashing in android is very easy n straight forward. but these are lil difficult n tricky.
i would suggest u to do more reading
