[Q] WHSmith app (storage) - Galaxy Tab General

Got my tab a few days ago and just in the process of redeeming my voucher codes... The WHSmith app is HORRIBLE, was hoping that any books I downloaded I would be able to import them into another e-reader, however I cant find where the WHSmith app stores my books?
Does anyone know if it's possible? Or am I required to use the WHSmith app?

i couln't find them on the STG either, i went to the W H Smith sight on my pc, downloaded them from there & then transferred them to my STG external mem card with Kies, then i imported them into my Aldiko reader, works fine for me
the pc sight is --- whsmith.gospoken.com/secure/force;jsessionid=B755B03BE4AB35B6DEFFDAE0A9A049E7

Thanks for the tip!
I've gone through the WHSmith site, Installed adobe editions, but the only file I can download from the WHSmith site is a .acsm file at only 2kb?
What/Where was the file you transfered to your tab?

Some books come through as epub which is easily transferred to tab and opened.
Other are ascm which need to be opened with Adobe digital editions software on PC. Trying to work out how to convert them at the moment. Let me know if you sort it.

OK,
Open Adobe digital editions.
Drag the .acsm file onto the open window
Look in "c:\my documents\My Digital Editions"
There's the .epub file
Problem is eBook app on tab does not recognise the file type. Tries to import it but fails

Adobe Digital Editions help says:
Connect your compatible ebook reader and it will appear as a bookshelf in the library.
This could be the end of the road.

I installed Adobe Digital Editions, clicked on the "Book Title.acms" file & it opened in the ADE, I then went to the My Digital Editions folder and copied "Book Title.epub" & "Book Title.png" (from the thumbnails folder) to my SGT My Files/ebook/import, then i clicked the "Book Title.epub" file, selected "Aldiko" as the program to open it in, selected the import option that opened, the book then opened in Aldiko & is listed on the bookshelf

books library?

hi,
i'm using my trinity a lot for books reading. i have them in *.txt format. i would like a suggestion of a program/database that will allow me to put them all together and view them easily, as well as search the text within them.
thank you very much
For putting them together you can use mobipocket reader (google it - the app is free) - desktop version can convert some formats, including .txt into its own file format and allows you to organise your books, sync them with your phone, etc.. I'm not sure about searching inside a book though.
you can also use ms free ebook reader they got a various formats->lit converter

Htc Reader Application

The reader on htc desire HD is great, i love it that it comes preloaded with couple of great books but how do i add more books to it. I tried tranfering a book in pdf and epub form but it doesn't seem to load onto the reader app but i can see the pdf file in adobe reader...How do i add the epub or pdf into Reader app?
You need to log into your own Kobo or Adobe ID account, and get the books from there. There is no file import option AFAIK.
yes, epub files work.
You have to put them in the Digital Distribution folder on the SD card, they will show up in the reader once you start it

I don't have any folder called this, where is it located?
I'm sorry, i meant Digital Editions
You'll find it on the root of the SD Card, if it's not there make it.

HTC Reader ICS version?
Hi,
Does anyone have the HTC reader compatible with ICS 4.03? I tried using the old app but it malfunctions in that it stops working when trying to load a book and also loads on half a screen.
Thanks!
The adobe reader app works for the pdf files and books I use

[Q] Odd sideloading in library

Okay, so here's my problem with sideloaded content, and I don't quite know what's going on here.
I have a rooted (via manual nooter) 2.1 Nook Color. I can put books on my NC via Calibre and they'll show up in the library. If I download an ePub from the web, and place them in the /sdcard/my files/books folder, they DO NOT show up.
However, if I download the books through Aldiko, and then move the EPUB FILE ONLY, not the folder, it will show up in the library although with a different cover, I'm guessing I need to do an epub to epub conversion to get that, it might just be displaying the first page.
What does Calibre do that moving the file will not? And why would it show up after Aldiko downloads it and moves it. I have a feeling there is something missing from just the ePub and I can't figure it out.

Where to store ebooks?

Hello, I am a Mac user new to Android phone. I need some advice. I got several ebook files stored under "book" within iTunes. Whenever I launch an Apple app called iBook, all the ebooks are available in one place. I have connected the Galaxy Note to my MacBook Pro using an usb cable. Where in the Note should I copy the ebook/pdf files to? Is there a specific folder to store these files? Thanks.

If you have adobe reader or any.pdf reader app installed in your device, you can just make a folder in your external/internal storage and place all your ebooks there.
Ps: launch the app and you'll see your ebooks on it.

If you have the common epub format files, you can store them in the folder associated with a epub reader. I store in the folder lumibooks, for example. Cheers!
You can import books into the Kobo reader, part of the Readers Hub. Just place the files into the kobo/spubs folder using the MyFiles app. Then should be able to import them into the app, there is a import option.

Yup, and if you install apps like Aldiko or Kobo your epub ebooks will usually be stored in the "eBooks" folder on your SD card, which will automatically be created.
If you want some other PDF or Epub readers, just search the Play Store for "PDF Reader" or "Epub".
You can also just drop the iTunes mentality from now on. You don't have to use a software to transfer your stuff. Just drag and drop the stuff over to your Note.
I use fbreader and it finds the ebooks wherever they are stored on the sd card in numerous folders

Thanks. Is the kobo/spubs folder created by default? After I clicked Readers Hub, I see a list of folders but there is no kobo. On the top left, I see /sdcard
The home screen of Readers Hub looks nice.
I am also consider ezpdf reader because it is fully compatible with S-pen, has Japanese language and annotations supported.

[Q] Associate file extension from library.apk

It is posibble to associate the file extension of unknow types (.docx,.mobi,.rtf,.txt) directly from finding it in library.apk and click on it? I just need to open file and ask me for (open with aplication...)
I'm fairly certain that the reader can't read anything other than epub and pdf, but there are other apps that will open those. Kingsoft Office (however strange and broken it is) should be able to open .docx and .rtf, I know it opens .doc and .txt. As for .mobi, Cool Reader should be able to work.
