[Q] GPS nav on ADAM - Adam General

Which GPS navigation software did NI include on the ADAM? I noticed it was mentioned already for a while on the Sygic website, so either MobileMaps or Aura are a possibility...

OsmAnd. it's on the market for free. 2.39 mb. not bad application. it works and has everything, but of course Google Maps makes OsmAnd look really bad.

Google navigation on my HTC Incredible makes EVERYTHING look bad. I own 3 Garmins, have CoPilot Live 8 on an Imagio for world traveling, had a Tom Tom, used a Magellin, and Navigation is so quick, easy and accurate it's unbelievable.
Wonder if it will be free on Honeycomb like the Incredible.

You mean Satelite Navigation program? TomTom will work fine, there is a thread in this forum for a version that'll work with our phone/resolution, you'll of course have to buy maps.
iGO8 also works pretty well, and there are also free things such as Waze, Google Maps, etc.

I'm using iguidance2009, it seems to work fine. It comes on an 8Gb card, but doesn't need to be activated and has full maps for US & Canada.

If you are going to stick with WM6.1 TomTom will work, but if you goto WM6.5 it will lag really bad... I have swiched over to Garmin which works perfectly.

Not true. I'm using energyROM Leo (wm 6.5.5 w/manila 2.5) and tomtom runs smooth as anything on here.
I will second that. I am running 7.917 with 840 maps and have virtually no lag and fast aquire times. I guess it boils down to what you are used to. I prefer TomTom because that was my first and I like to customize the heck out if it with cameras, poi's voices etc.
As long as it gets you there is all that matters.
My preference
I've used iGo8, Tomtom 7.9xxx, many of the freebie/shareware and CoPilot 8. I liked CoPilot 8 the best. It's smooth, nice display, with many display options. It seemed the most intuitive to use and is very finger friendly.
I've used it on a Fuze and Tilt 2 with stock and various flavors of WM6.5 custom ROMs.

Google Maps

Never seen this posted here because, and I didn't the answer with search.
Why does Google Maps not auto-turn? It does on the iPhone 3GS and 4, yet not on Android. Android is made by google. :|
Is it because of the compass in the iphone; does the evo not have a compass?
Auto-turn??????
I think he means that it doesn't change orientation when you turn, north is always up. We have turn by turn nav though.

That's my biggest gripe with the evo..well, that and the battery. I wish google maps orientated in the direction you are facing like the Iphone does....I did find an app called Rmaps that does it, but it is definitely not as polished as the Iphone. Seems strange that a google phone would not have included it?!

While the gnav is super cool, especially in places that you haven't drove before, but a lot of the time, If I'm trying to get somewhere locally, I just want to see the map because I already know the area, but the damn maps never move.

Polished? Maybe things are different with the new iPhone, but I have the 3GS, and unless I was walking, it virtually never oriented in the same direction I was going. It was usually about 90 degrees off.
The Navigation app uses GMaps and orients with you.
It is the Polish for driving.
Click the compass. It changes from N-S to turn.

Compass moves to indicate what direction you are going not where North is.
Listen to the guy and just click the dang compass! This toggles the map from top-down north orientation to a 3d directional orientation. You must be moving to see the change.

Don't try to figure it out, you'll be right half the time anyway!

Ummm....there's no compass on my gmaps...I'm running version 4.5.1 comes with the search box, places, layers, and my location buttons, but alas...no compass.
check it out....no compass
Use navigate instead of maps. Then you will see a compass.

That's where the confusion is--there are THREE options in gmaps--map, directions and navigate. Map does not have a compass and does not give you turn-by-turn directions, directions is just the text listing and navigate is the turn-by-turn with voice directions and the compass. And it all works (even the compass switching)!!!

Google Maps v5.0.0

Hi All,
Google has just pushed the new google maps v5.0.0 3D in MARKET. I have update mine and now its working fine. Now the question is for Navigation. We need new version of BrutMaps.
Thanks,
Mahesh
New version is super slick. Vector graphics make scrolling around maps so much faster with no tiling. Edges of maps are blurry and come into focus as you scroll around.
Download it now!
what i dont understand is maps is an google app but its smoother, better on iphone.
Can someone tell me why i can't find the update in the market on my Desire? I live in Europe, Lithuania...

Thanks for the link. Shoud i just install this on top of my current gmaps version, or shoud i remove the current versio somehow before installing? And still, is there a reason that an update doesn't appear in the market?

For sure But like everyone expect are this buildings only in the USA (I didn't found them outside). But you can still tilt and rotate the map (but also the terrain layer stays flat).
Swipe
Everything is working pretty fine, the new features are awesome but - there's always a but - I can't make the two finger swipe thing. Is it working for you? I just try to make it and it zooms instead of turning around. Anyone has an idea about this?
Same here, I can tilt but I cannot get rotation
I can use the two finger gesture to tilt the map but no way to rotate it. Is there anyone can do it? how to do it?
Rotate with fingers is not Desire and Nexus One possible unfortunately. Our toys are not 100% multi-touch capable.

Press the compass on the top right twice, you'll see the rotation. 3d feature is for some cities for now e.g. Oslo

It works on Sense HD ROMs AFAIK, don't know how well though.
But it's clear: Desire doesn't really have multitouch capability. I'm really glad the 3D-Gesture works though!
The Desire's touchpanel gets confused when you cross an axis with two fingers at the same time.
Not that big of an issue, IMO. The biggest improvement in the new Google Maps are the vector graphics.

Fullscreen GPS Navigation?

You guys know any fullscreen GPS apps for XOOM? I tried Motonav (I have it on my n1) and it's taking up a tiny portion of the XOOM screen (obvious reasons)
anything out there already supersized?

I'm curious whether downloading Spare Parts and disabling Compatibility Mode will make it fill out the entire screen.
Good question, it's something I'm also interested in. Does Motonav use downloaded maps?
Also, have you tried disabling compatability mode in Spare Parts to make the app full screen?
The XOOM comes with Google's full screen navigation app 'Navigation'...

forgot to mention I have the WIFI-only xoom
Motonav has pre-installed maps ... the point is to use the GPS and only the GPS (no data)
what's spare parts?
Spare parts is an app. Just put it in market and search for it and you'll see what h meant

Spare Parts is an app that lets you turn off compatibility mode, so that most apps will scale to your larger screen apposed to being small phone size on your big screen device...Why you have to turn off compatibility mode to get apps to scale..I have no clue, but it works.

That might simply be an app issue, Ive used the navigation app overseas in rome even in walking navigation, works perfectly.
I wouldnt know if it's possible to extract the apk, i am sure many others would know.
copilot might run "fine" but does it do Fullscreen on the Xoom?
Like I said, Motonav only takes up about a quarter of the screen... by removing compat. mode with spare parts it'll stretch but prolly looks ugly ... is there an actual GPS navigation version (offline) that's made for the xoom yet?

If you bring up Google Maps a notification should appear saying that your location was set by GPS.
yup, and offline gps apps like MOTONAV work just fine ... the GPS chip is very quick to catch a signal from 10+ satellites
One thing is MOTONAV isn't made for this big resolution...
if I understand it correctly, I think this is what you're looking for (not sure if the nav works with all the maps):

Thanks for the response guys. I'm looking at getting a Xoom probably in the next couple weeks. WiFi only... having GPS is a huge + for it.

Google Navigation doesn't like corners!

I am very disappointed with google maps navigation. When I am taking corners it lags behind then suddenly jumps forward and misses the corner completely. On some corners it jumps to a different road completely.
Do I have a defective GPS? or does google maps not handle corners very well?
Have you turned on "sensors aiding" under Location and Security? It helps a lot because it tells your phone you are cornering.

Thanks that seems to have helped alot.
I just used Google Navigation yesterday for the first time in a while and they changed the interface in one of the updates. It used to behave more like Garmin, Tom Tom, etc., but now it's really just Google maps with a line and arrow on it. The SGS2 seemed to perform OK but Google maps wasn't too good with providing advance visual or voice alerts for turns or changes of direction. I'm going to try TeleNav today. Someone's posted a link that allows us to use the "basic" version for free. i'll see if I can find it.

On the streets, SGSII can hold its own pretty good. In all of my cars, it hasn't even lost a signal, jumped to adjacent streets, missed a turn, overshot an intersection, spun circles at a stop light, etc... including in my GT-R.
On the track, yeah... probably like the Porsches... left in the dust.
