Hey folks, quick question. I tried to read up on this but there is SO much information that I can't seem to get a good direction to start in.
I would like to make a market app, to change battery icons to what I have created. I would also like to make them compatible with most roms if possible and foremost, I would like the app to make a backup file within the app so users can flash back their old icons at any time and choose from different colors I have to offer.
I have read through this guide and looked at this as well. Is there something more streamlined to be able to do what I want to do or is the first guide sufficient enough? Thanks in advance, any help or input would be appreciated
I'm pretty sure to change the battery icon you need to have root access.
I would suggest having a look at the theming section of the forum, because what you wan't is what they are doing there, replacing stock icons/images and styles with custom ones.
I think there are even apps or programs to flash the themes for you

Im tired of trying out appz for my Universal and finding out they are of no use. And the recommendations here run in 100's of threads.
Could you please, (in the following order) state your:
1. ROM version
2. Favourite Tweaks
3. Favourite Appz
4. Favourite Skin
and possibly
5. A screenshot of your today screen.
Thank You, Im sure alot of people will find this useful as reocurring applications and skins will often mean useful for others.
Greatly appreciated.
put some effort in and read the existing forums, your right, there are hundreds, so why would we want to do it all again.
First I want to thank everyone for all the help perfecting my new 8125!
I've searched high and low, and I've found tons of threads showing peoples Today screens, I haven't found a good way to create them. I'm looking for something basic that doesn't take up device memory. On my old Mobile3 device, I could edit the file by hand, but haven't found a way to do this yet.
I'm just looking to be able to change colors, get rid of backgrounds, move items around, and maybe change fonts.
Any advice? Is there a thread somewhere that outlines the process that I may have missed?
Thanks again
Sounds like you want to change the theme of your phone, not add new today plug-ins. Try searching for ThemeGenerator or something like that--it might have the settings you're after.
so i was checking out the forums.... did some searching and kinda got lost... so i decided it was time to join and see what i can find out..... got my evo a couple days ago... first thing i thought when checking out my phone is how i can change the theme...
i figured that such a powerful phone it should be possible to do it.... well i found themes and other info... but it all seems contradictory.... some sites and info it seems i need to "root" my phone (which i'm not sure what that is still).... others say i need to "rom" my phone (again still not sure what that is either)...
so what do i need to know to change the theme of my phone? what other things should i know about my phone (besides the basics i read in the guide)?
is it possible to create my own theme for the phone? or is it very complicated?
sorry if this is a repost i did search and as i said i kinda got lost and confused.. it's obviious you all are smart and some of the terms and info you put out kinda has me scratching my head.... it there's a way to explain it simply i can probably understand...
i feel the same way
Well it took em a few days to figure out everything.. I am too a new evo user..i managed to root my evo, add a custom theme and kernel and change my banner..i had figured it out all on my own..theres a evo wiki that might help you...
thanks banks.... i'll look into it...... but thanks to fachadick i learned a little what i needed to know.... my next step was to learn how to root and add roms and the like.... i'll look into that wiki....
the reason you get a lot of different information depending on where you look is because there are multiple options for themes depending on what exactly you are looking for. there are some things that can be done without root. for example many launchers (OpenHome ADW etc) will let you download themes made for it which give you different icons and backgrounds. Other options are to go with a launcher liek Launcher Pro and youcan change your dock around a lot, you can download folder organizer or application organizer and make folders with custom icons, you can use better cut to change icons on single applications. All these you can do with out needing root.
what you will need root for is if you want a theme that changes the rosie UI, changes the menus(ie adds color) or changes the notification icons\color of the top bar, and even changing fonts used by the rosie ui itself
if you dont care about that stuff then you dont actually have to root, though i suggest it anyway, to change your theme.
Hi Well-Esteemed XDA Developers
May I ask for your expertise in changing the battery icon as well as the color of the toggle buttons in the notification bar up top?
I've already rooted my Note and tried the paid version of ROM Toolbox, but even after rebooting, the battery icon refuses to change. I understand that the toggle widgets might be harder to modify, so I'll be patient with this, hoping someone would find a way around this.
I apologize in advance if this is something that has already been fixed, my last Samsung was the Omnia i908 for Windows Mobile 6, and I've checked other threads specific to the Galaxy Note and nobody has yet brought this up.
Thanks once again XDA for the amazing experience you've bought to my Android experience!
You may need to wait a little while until the devs get their hands on this device. Be sure to check out the "GN Android Development" forum instead of "General" for this kind of modding.
You can use uotkitchen website to do it. Works perfectly on my GN
how did you manage to change the icon... i have kitchenpro but i'm a noob, so i'll be extremely grateful if you could share how to change it
Is is possible to replace the animated cog that appears when an app is being launched or a network communication is taking place?
I'm an iPhone user migrating from iOS to Android. I'm enjoying all the customization freedom that Android offers, but I'm having a hard time finding information on how to edit this icon. I'm attaching an image of the concerning graphic.
Thanks in advance
You need to root your device and edit framework.jar, although i can't tell you exactly how.
Why don't you try a custom rom like cyanogenmod? Much better than the stock software and a lot more feature rich.
I just didn't know if this was achievable at all, but thanks to your message I know it's possible so now I just need to figure out how to go about it.
I'm not familiar with cyanogenmod, I'll look into it, as well as into editing the framework.jar.
Thanks for your kind reply
