Hello all,
Im having trouble with a newly acquired my touch. I bought it with stock 1.6 on it and it has upgrade to stock 2.2. Its not rooted. The OTA downloaded and installed. The problem now is the phone keeps restarting. It loads all the way to home screen and then freezes and just restarts. I tried going to recovery but same thing it loads recovery and just freezes. Xda members are the most knowledgeable about this. What can I do? Can I downgrade or anything? I cant do factory wipe because it freezes before I get a chance to do it.any help is appreciated!
What all your fastboot info?

If your sure that recovery isn't working your going to have to downgrade. I know I've put directions on how to do it somewhere, but I've got to dig them up. I need to know if you still want to upgrade to the 2.2.1 OTA or if you just want to re-root.
I actually didn't have root at all. Everything's stock. I'm not sure why that happened. Maybe a bad flash? I don't want to do 2.2.1 OTA, it's really slow! Thanks for your help. i just want this phone to function again like normal.
Sweetness.
1. Go here and download "sappimg.nbh", "update1.zip", "update2.zip", "Gio's_OTA_Froyo-1.8.1.zip", and "Universal Androot.apk".
2. Copy the "sappimg.nbh", "update1.zip", and "Universal Androot" to your SD card. Once on your SD card, rename "update1.zip" to "update.zip".
3. Boot into hboot (volume down+power), it'll pick up the sappimg, do a file check, then ask you to hit "Action" to continue, press the trackball. It'll run the updates and ask you to press the trackball again to reboot.
4. Once you get to the Google Activation screen, just shut the phone off.
5. Boot into recovery (home+power), you'll get a triangle with an exclamation mark and a phone, hit home+power again to pull up the menu. Select "Apply update.zip from SD card". It should automatically pickup the update, run it, and reboot. Once again, do step #4.
6. Put the SD card into the computer, delete the "update.zip" and "sappimg.zip" files from it. Move "update2.zip" to the SD card and rename it "update.zip. Also move the "Gio's_OTA_Froyo-1.8.1.zip" file but don't rename it, just put it on there.
7. Do step 5 again for the second update.
8. When you get back to the activation screen, sign-in. Go to market and download/install "Appinstaller". Open the app and select the Universal Androot.apk. Install it as well, then open it and click root. When it says you've got root, download/install ROM Manager from the market. Select "Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery", then scroll down and select "Flash Alternate Recovery".
9. Reboot into recovery again (it'll look different than before), go to the wipe option and select "Wipe data/factory reset", "Wipe cache", and then "Wipe dalvik-cache". Hit home after each one to confirm.
10. Select the "Flash ZIP from SD card" option. Select the "Gio's_OTA_Froyo-1.8.1.zip" and hit home to confirm. When it finishes flashing, reboot, and welcome to awesomeness.
Let me know how it goes. If you have problems let me know on here or hit me up on Google Talk at [email protected].
Thanks a lot for the very detailed instructions! I had a question. since i dont have a data plan on this line, do I need someone with a data plan to actually activate the phone?
Thanks DonJuan692006! Your post helped me as well.

Can't seem to get CWM installed through "ROM Manager", no matter how hard you damn well try? While trying to flash my Legend, I came across something which may help you guys out as it did me.
NOTE: You must have root to to do this.
This is a NON-PERMANENT solution. Using this method will NOT permanently replace your stock recovery with CWMs.
Download the file attached to this post.
Rename the file to "update.zip"
Place it on the root of your sdcard and then turn off your Legend.
Hold the volume buttons and the power button. You will boot into HBOOT.
After HBOOT scans for the LEGEIMG stuff, navigate to the "RECOVERY" option with the volume down button, and hit the power button to select it. Afterwards, you'll hit the dreaded "RED EXCLAMATION MARK OMG OMG WHAT DO" screen.
Hold the volume buttons and the power button again, and ignore the error which appears.
After the blue menu appears, navigate to "Apply update.zip" and select it.
Magic just happened. SUDDENLY YOU'RE IN CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY.
From here you can flash ROMS, wipe your cache, etc etc etc.
Hope this helps anyone having trouble flashing CWM.
P.S. This may well work for other models having trouble flashing CWM.
Nice guide, but There is allready a guide for this in dev. Fake-Flash

if you mean reflashing from beginning you must do a 'factory reset-erase data' from AD RECOVERY.

Hi,
Repartition according to ROM requirements.(via number 5 usb flasher)
Then go to ad recovery and wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(advanced).
Then go to install zip from sd card
Choose zip from sd card (which you should have placed on the root of your sd card, using a card reader)
After installation,reboot.
Give it time.
Some ROMS take 15-20 minutes to install.
So I tried what you guys told me and none of those work :/
I partitioned the sd to 1024 mb and 64 mb cache and still no go .... I am clueless tried couple roms always same thing

hi... i posted a lot of questions lately. and many kind people here help me, by answering my question. so i think it's time for me to help others.
when i 1st got my G1, im so eager to root it but i'm scared of bricking it.
then i found this guide. and damn it help me to root my phone in a very easy way. just follow what this guide tell you to do and you wont brick your phone
I FOUND THIS TO BE THE EASIEST METHOD OF ROOTING A G1 AND INSTALLING A STABLE BUILD OF FROYO. (or any new roms for G1 out there)
THIS IS DESIGNED FOR THE COMPLETE BEGINNER!!
I HAVE THIS ON MY G1 WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!!
Rooting Your Stock T-Mobile G1 (HTC DREAM) AND INSTALLING A STABLE ANDROID 2.2 FROYO BUILD. (CYANOGENMOD 6.0)
**Please make sure your phone is completely charged before doing this**
**I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. Do this at your own risk**
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was pretty worried about bricking my phone, but it is almost impossible if you do this step by step and correctly. Just make sure to follow the steps!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prerequisites:
**ALL DATA/APPLICATIONS WILL BE REMOVED FROM YOUR PHONE AND IT WILL BE RETURNED TO FACTORY SETTINGS AFTER THE FOLLOWING STEPS. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SYNC SET UP FOR YOUR DATA SO THAT YOU CAN RECOVER YOUR CONTACTS!**
(TO SYNC GO TO SETTING > DATA SYNChronization > make sure AUTO SYNC is checked as well as contacts calendar and gmail)
Here is what you will need:
1) Your Phone
2) A Computer
3) USB Cable
Download the following file onto your computer:
(DO NOT UNZIP OR CHANGE ANY FILES!)
Original DREAIMG.nbh
Cupcake Update.zip
FlashRec.apk
Amon Ra’s Recovery Image
G1 Radio
G1 HardSPL
Generic G1 ROM w/ Root
CYANOGENMOD 6 ROM
GAPPS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I) Formatting the SD Card and Downgrading to RC29
(YOU WILL DELETE EVERYTHING OFF YOUR SD CARD!)
1. Plug your USB cable into your computer and then plug your phone in.
2. Mount your SD card by sliding down the notification bar and selecting mount.
3. Go to My Computer and access your SD card.
4. BACKUP ANY FILES THAT YOU WANT ONTO YOUR COMPUTER. VERY
IMPORTANT!
5. Go back to my computer and right click on the drive that is your sd card. Click format. Choose FAT32 from the drop down and hit the format button. This removes all data from your memory card.
6. Once the format is complete: drag and drop "DREAIMG.nbh & Update.zip files that you downloaded into the sd card. (DO NOT create a folder or anything, just put it right in the SD card)
7. Unmount your phone by going through the notification bar and then unplug your phone from your computer. Them turn off your phone.
8. Press and hold the camera+end key until until you see a screen with colored bars, then let go. This is the bootloader. The screen will turn gray with blue writing on it.
9. Hit the end key to start the update. DON'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THIS IS DONE!
10. Once it is finished press the trackball to reboot. (If it goes back the the colored bar screen and doesn't reboot try holding the home+menu+end key, if this doesn't work, just remove the batter and put it back in and turn the phone on)
11. Once the phone is on, just turn it back off.
12. Now press the Home+End keys until you see a triangle with an exclamation point in it (this is recovery mode). Once you see this let go of the buttons.
13. Open the keyboard and press the ALT and L buttons, and then Press ALT and S buttons. Now wait until the phone reboots (it will do this automatically once the update is applied) (Don't worry if you see picture of a box and a g1 or a chip with an arrow)
14. Once the phone reboots, go ahead and and go through the welcome guide and get to the home screen.
II) Flashing a Recovery Image
1. Now with your phone at the home screen, go to settings>applications> an turn on unknown sources.
2. Now go to settings>SD card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card
3. Now Click format sd card and go ahead and format your sd card. It will automatically remount after.
4. Go back to the home screen and plug and mount the phone to the computer again as you did earlier.
5. Place the following files you downloaded earlier right into the sd card: FlashRec.apk, and Amon Ra's Recovery Image (Again not in any folder or anything, just on the sd card)
6. Once they are transferred go ahead and unmount and unplug your phone from the computer
7. Go and download a file manager from the android market (I suggest LINDA FILE MANAGER)
8. Once downloaded, open the file manager and go to SD card, and click the FlashRec.apk file and then click install. If it asks -> Tell it to use package installer to open it (it probably wont ask but if it does)
9. Once installed click open (it will be on bottom left of screen)
10. Then click the button that says "backup recovery image"
11. Once it says "backup complete" open the keyboard and type the following: /sdcard/recovery.img
12. Then click "flash custom recovery image" and wit until it says "Flash complete"
13. Go back to the home screen and then turn off the phone.
14. Turn the phone back on into recovery mode by holding down the home and power buttons. You will see a bunch of text on top of a black background with an HTC logo in the middle.
III) Partitioning and Loading the latest radio
1. Scroll down to "Partition SD Card"
2. Click "Partition SD"
3. Press the Home key to confirm
4. Use the trackball to increase the "swap size" to 96MB then press Home key
5. Make sure "EXT2" is set to 512 MB then Click the Home Key
6. Make sure "Fat32 size" is set to remainder and then press the Home Key and then the phone will begin partitioning.
7. Once partitioning is complete scroll down and select to "SD: ext2 to ext3" and then press the Home key. Wait for it to upgrade.
8. Once the Upgrade is complete hit the "back" button to get back to the main menu. Then scroll down and select "USB-MS Toggle" and wait for it to enable.
9. Now plug the phone into the computer again. Now transfer the files downloaded earlier: G1 Radio, G1 HardSPL, Generic G1 Rom w/ root, to the phone. (AGAIN KEEP THE FILES JUST IN THE SD CARD AND NOT IN A FOLDER OR SOMETHING)
10. Once the transfer is complete hit the Home key to disable the USB-MS toggle and return back to the main menu of recovery mode. Unplug your phone.
11. Scroll down and select "Flash .zip from SDcard"
12. Select the G1 Radio file (named OTA Radio or something like that) and hit the Home key to confirm. DO NOT SELECT ANY OTHER FILE, THE RADIO MUST BE DONE FIRST.
13. Once the Radio Flash is complete Press Home+Back to reboot the phone. It will then say "writing radio image" and then reboot back into recover mode (this will take some time)
14. Once back into recovery mode, scroll and select "Flash zip from SDcard" again.
15. This time choose the SPL file (named somthing like "Latest G1 SPL.zip") and then click the HOME KEY to confirm.
16. Once it finishes, hit HOME+Back to reboot once again. It will say "writing boot image" and then reboot
back to recovery mode.
17. Once again scroll to "Flash zip from SDCard" and choose the Generic G1 Rom file (Named something like Generic G1 Root Rom.zip) and click Home to confirm and wait for it to finish.
18. Once finished it should go back to the main menu and say"Install from SD card complete"
19. Now click on the "Reboot System Now" choice. (Home+Back)
20. Wait for the phone to reboot back into Android.
IV)Installing CYANOGENMOD 6 (Android 2.2 Froyo for HTC DREAM)
1. Once back into Android, turn the phone back off.
2. Hold the Home + power keys to turn the phone on and get it back into recovery mode
3. Select "USB-MS Toggle" and wait for it to enable
4. Once enabled, plug your phone in and transfer the CYANOGENMOD6 and GAPPS file ito your SD card/phone. (again not in any folder, just in the sd card)
5. Once the files are transferred, press the Home key to disable USB-MS Toggle and return to the main menu, and then unplug your phone.
6. Scroll down and select "wipe" and then select "wipe data / factory reset" and then hit the Home key to confirm. Wait for it to finish the wipe. It will say "Data wipe complete"
7. Hit the back key to return to the main menu.
8. Scroll and select "Flash Zip from SDCard"
9. Select the CYANOGENMOD 6 ROM Named something like "update-cm-6.0.0-DS-RC1-signed.zip" and hit Home to confirm and wait for it to finish.
10. Once finished it will go back to the main menu and say "Install from SD Card Complete"
11. Go back to "Flash Zip from SDCard"
12. Select the Gapps File Named something like "gapps-mdpi-FRF91-3-signed.zip" and click home to confirm.
13. Once it is finished you should be back at the main menu. Select "Reboot System Now" and wait for the phone to reboot.
14. The reboot will take some time, (roughly 5-10 minutes) so don't freak out. Just put your phone down and go do something =)
CONGRATS! YOU have successfully rooted your G1 and installed CYANOGENMOD 6 (ANDROID 2.2 Froyo)
thanks worked great
Step III-20. Completed all the way up to there and now it seems stuck on the ANDROID logo with the white flash scrolling thru. Holds the logo for 10 seconds with the flash moving left to right, then the flash pauses on the "D". Repeats. Did I miss a step?
I can use the camera button and the power button to reach the bootloader screen. It's not the multi color screen. It's the white backgrown with three green Androids on it. It will not allow me to use the home and back buttons to go to the recovery mode though.

So I had to start over. Now I am at the login step. Tried to install ADB onto my computer but I can't seem to get it to "recognize my device".
Is there a ROM flash that just deletes this step when you load it instead of loading 1.0? I know this question came up before.

if your can't bypass even on adb using your computer. why don't you just borrow a sim from your friend or anyone (for a while) that you know, that have a sim card with a data plan or 3g connections. or if your in a country with a prepaid service. just load your sim with an amount that you can avail 3g connection.
Yeah I went to the local market to buy a SIM card that will transmit data but they were out. Just tried a local SIM with no luck and tried someones AT&T SIM out of their iPhone with no luck as well. I'm going to try the ADB route again.
Got a local SIM card (Roshan) and used its data plan to unlock my G1. Started the process from the beginning but made it to step IV-2 (Press home and back to power up in Recovery mode.
It will not power up by that method.

i did everything as this says and im stuck at flashing CM6 with a status 7 (as user above) , i also tried another tut in the cianogenmod wiki (ttp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod#Rooting_the_HTC_Drea m_2) same error:
but i dont know maybe something is missing from the root part of that tut?
i understand it has to do with nand partitions, but since i already tried with death spl , and also hardspl, then i dont know what else to try.

boot normally, go to settings, about phone, if you are @ android 1.0 then your dreaming.nbh file worked as it should, if not telenet wont help if your still @ 1.6 or 1.5.
if this is the case go to your bootloader screen (camera + power) and try again. make sure that the dreaming.nbh file is spelled correctly! also make sure it isnt in any folders on your sd card

Edited May 16 2012
Hi all,
Due to confusion and scared people I have decided to post simple instructions on how to unlock the bootloader on GB 2.3.4. I just received my Bell Atrix 4G, unlocked it for rogers and then rooted and unlocked the bootloader. I was confused by the pudding instructions, so I decided to recreate them In my own wording.
I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your phone or your heart stopping while you wait for your phone to reboot or if it is stuck on moto screen etc...
Credit for original tutorials go to the2dcour, romracer, Nottach, Faux123 and the others for all of their hard work.
Requirements:
1.Create a folder on your desktop named motounlock
2.Go here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
Scroll down to where it says "RSDLite/Windows Drivers/Sbf_flash"
UPDATE: Download RSDLite from here : http://www.multiupload.com/T6NOEBKKLO . If you need x64 bit Drivers use the other link. thanks AnguishedEnd!
download the first two files for windows (RSDLite 5.5 link, x64 Windows drivers)
download the third file for linux/mac
3.Scroll until you see the big word "Unlock"
where it says "Unlocker only SBFs" download the second file UNLESS you are on ATT.
4. Scroll down to the word "Root" and download 'Fastboot' for your OS
5.unzip all of the files you just downloaded into the motounlock folder on your desktop
6. open the folder, install RSDLite, and afterwards install the Drivers.
Then follow these instructions
Power Down your atrix
Take out your microSD card and SIM card for the flashing process
While turning the phone on, hold the Volume Up button until it acknowledges RSD. Your device will say “Starting RSD protocol support”
Run “RSD Lite” on your computer
Press the “. . .” button next to the box labeled “Filename”
Navigate to your desktop and open the motounlock folder and select the file named intl-fix-try1.sbf ( IT WILL BE DIFFERENT IF U ARE DOING THIS FOR ATT)
Plug your device into your computer. RSD Lite should recognize your device and say “Model: NS Flash Olympus” and “Connected…” The acronym 'NS' may be different for your device people!!
Press the “Start” button. The Flash actually failed for me, wait for it to complete to 100% it may FAIL or PASS! just make sure it gets to 100% leave your phone sitting for about 10 minutes AFTER RSD SAYS FAIL/SUCCESS.
If nothing is happening after 10mins, perform a battery pull. Power the phone on while pressing vol-down. “Fastboot” Will show up on screen. DONT PLUG IT IN YET. Press volume up and let your phone sit. You will see “Starting Fastboot protocol support" LEAVE IT UNPLUGGED
press the windows key + R on your computer, type cmd and press enter
command prompt will open. type cd C:\users\YOURNAME\desktop\motounlock press 'enter'
Plug your device back into usb now
back in your command prompt window type "fastboot oem unlock" no quotes
You will now receive a warning along with a unique device ID
Type the following commands using your unique device ID (the numbers in the command prompt) in place of the ####
fastboot oem unlock ####
fastboot reboot
your moto will reboot. UNLCOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Proper Recovery:
1. After your bootloader unlocked go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
2. Scroll down to where it says "ALL USERS" and download your favourite colour. (NOT THE ZIP VERSION) Place it in the motounlock folder that you have on your desktop.
3. Press the windows key + R on your computer, type cmd and press enter
4. A Command prompt will open. type cd C:\users\YOURNAME\desktop\motounlock press 'enter'
5. type "fastboot devices" Press Enter.
5b. type "fastboot erase recovery" Press Enter.
5c. type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-atrix5.img" Press Enter.
Wait for the command prompt to say : "writing 'recovery'... OKAY ['The amount of seconds it took here']"
5d.type "fastboot reboot"
DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS PART: After the install of RomRacers recovery boot up your phone. Open up your favourite file browser (I used Astro file manager to do this ) and navigate to /system/etc/ and delete the file called 'install-recovery.sh'
You will be set 100% !
Installing a custom ROM (Any custom rom will work as long as it has unified kernel/Faux Kernel)
MOST ROMS WILL COME PRE-ROOTED! Just saying, to avoid confusion.
I will be using Nottach's Darkside ROM as an example, because Cyanogenmod does not have features included with original moto rom (this one is way more NOOB friendly) But this is COMMON PROCEDURE for almost every rom so be sure to follow this for whatever ROM you want to use.
1. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1222108
2. Scroll down to where it says 'DOWNLOADS' and download the most current version.
3. When it is finished downloading you will have a ZIP file named something like "TheDarkSidev2.8.0-Wipe.zip"
4. Plug your phone in to your computer and transfer that file to your INTERNAL MEMORY.
5. MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE HAS DECENT CHARGE! I would say at least 50 percent. 70+ is recommended, I have done it with 40 + though.
6. Power Down your Phone.
7. Hold The POWER Button + VOL DOWN. DONT PRESS VOLUME UP WHEN YOU SEE FASTBOOT! Instead...
8. After fastboot shows up click volume down until " Android Recovery " shows up, about 7 down clicks. THEN press volume up.
9.
***FIRST TIME ROM FLASHERS ONLY!!!!!!***
WE ARE GOING TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL ROM SO THAT IF YOU EVER DERP YOU WIL ALLWAYS HAVE A SOLID BACKUP
Press VOLUME DOWN and go to backup and restore. Press the POWER BUTTON
Press the POWER button on backup
Select where you want to put your backup (internal or external memory)
Backup INCLUDING WEBTOP! (if you ever think you will use it)
Wait for it to finish.
***********************************
10. Ok now that you are in android recovery you have to do a few things before flash.
a. Scroll down to "wipe data/factory reset" PRESS POWER. say yes to EVERYTHING until it goes back to the main screen.
b. scroll down to "wipe cache partition" PRESS POWER. say YES. Wait for return to main menu
c. Scroll down to"advanced", click "wipe dalvik cache" Go back to "advanced", "wipe battery stats
11. At the main menu, Scroll to "install Zip from SDcard" Press POWER.
12.scroll down to "choose zip from internal sdcard"
13. select the ZIP file that you saved to your INTERNAL memory. If you're using darkside the file name is "TheDarkSidev2.8.0-Wipe.zip"
14. Scroll down to "YES - install TheDarkSidev2.8.0-Wipe.zip" Press POWER
15. Let your phone work its magic!
16. When it is finished installing, you will be returned to the recovery main menu.
17. click "reboot system now"
18. Let it boot! This can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 5+ MINUTES! if you dont see it move from the "unlocked" screen after 10 minutes Perform a battery pull and power on again. If it hangs then all you have to do is go into recvoery click "backup and restore" and restore your original ROM. Or like me, have one of every kind of ROM on your storage in case I feel the need to change it on the go!
19. YOUR PHONE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY TURNED INTO A FULLY OPEN DROID Pat yourself on the back and have a drink to your accomplishments . We on XDA knew you could do it!
Some solutions to issues:
As ar31791 said,
Anyone having issues not being able to boot into CWM recovery after flashing it (such as seeing android guy with exclamation mark):
Delete or rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh AND /etc/install-recovery.sh I renamed mine to bkup.install-recovery.sh in case i ever wanted to use them again for some reason.
/etc/install-recovery.sh will automatically be placed in /system/etc if /system/etc/install-recovery.sh is not found on boot.
So, you must delete or rename both, THEN INSTALL CWM recovery.
rename the files using ROM Toolbox's root explorer as some file explorers will not give you the proper access levels to delete or rename the files correctly.c
Hope this helps it worked for me. I was afraid of a brick because nobody clarified the steps that were involved in RSDLite. It may be nerve racking, but it does work!! Enjoy and thanks again to the2dcour, romracer, Nottach, Faux123 and anybody else who has helped in the scene that I didnt have a chance to mention. PM me if I forgot you!
Oh, and just to let everybody know when your bootloader is successfully unlocked it will say unlocked at the top left of your screen everytime you turn it on. just wait, this is normal.
OMG thank you so much tayshun!! I just spent 2 hours reading through that pudding post mess trying to figure out how to do this for a 2.3.4 bell atrix....
I was very nervous about trying something without clear directions in case I brick my phone. You're a lifesaver

I understand your grief hahaha. Feel free to press the thank you button at the bottom of my post. I'm trying to get a good reputation around here as I am going to school for programming and I will probably be in these dev forums daily to get help cooking Roms!
Has anybody else had success with my simplified instructions? Results?

Maybe i spoke to soon...I just noticed it has reset to factory defaults. Not a big deal as I already backed everything up but i certainly wasn't expecting it!
What about android version 2.2.2 and system Version.4.2.11.MB860.Retail.end.FR
Build: OLYEM_ U4_2.1.1
IT'S bell phone atrix 4g unlocked and running on Rogers
In just afraid of ruining it,, I've bricked a vibrant by just updating it from Samsung utility which is weird.
Thanks

you would have expected this if you had informed yourself as you should, before performing this kind of procedure on your phone.
Worked perfectly for me. My phone wouldnt complete the flash, so I went into CMD and unlocked it.
I've been trying to do this before, and many failed attempts.
So thank you.
worked
Fantastic summary.
Worked like a charm.
Bell Atrix with retail updates.
Thanks a million!
...Damnit, still can't remove Kobo; wtf!
Super guide
Thanks for the very clear instructions. Worked first time. The one thing that always seemed ambiguous to me was the memory fix. Do we need to apply it?

I also have an unlocked bell atrix 4g on rogers. If you dont have 2.3.4 you would have to update your phone with the bell original software. It wont take away your unlock as unlocks are permanent. after you upgrade follow this guide to unlock the Bootloader and feel free to use custom roms!

well after I unlocked my bootloader I installed romracers CWM and DarkSide v2.1 to my phone. No issues with ram so far. I dont know if you intend on installing customs ( I assume so because what other reason would you have to unlock the bootloader? lol) but after the install my ram readouts seemed correct
Yes, you're correct. I checked available memory and its over 800 mb, so the fix must be in there.
Cheers
Working very well with Bell Atrix.
Thanks for big help.
Wondering if this instruction works with Hong Kong's ME860 2.3.4 also?
I'd love to try this!

I'm not sure if it works with hong kong version. If you check the link that I posted, it leads to a thread on here called international house of pudding. in that thread at the beginning it says that " China version ??: DANGER: Brick after OTA 2.2.2" So you would definitely have to ask someone around the forums or search to see if somebody has done it successfully
It is possible to remove the unlocked during the boot?

These are the steps:
1. Unlock the bootloader following the instructions at "htcdev.com" You can't muck up your phone. If you succeed, when you start your phone into the bootloader mode you will see "UNLOCKED" at the top of the screen. You will still have "S-On". This method doesn't give you "S-Off". You don't need it to install custom roms and there is far less chance of you bricking your phone. If you can't get this far you will need to get someone to help you.
2. On your PC go to "unlockroot.com" and get the free download of "UnlockRoot" (Press cancel if it asks you whether you want some browser addon, you can still download the program) Run it and connect your running Wildfire by USB (make sure USB debugging is enabled). Confirm a Wildfire is connected when asked and the click on"Root". After a bit it will say "successfully rooted". Just disconnect the phone. I then rebooted the phone (I don't know if this is necessary).
3. Install "Rom Manager" from Play Store. Run it and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Then select "Reboot into Recovery" and you should come up with the Bootloader screen with CWM 5.0.2.0. Use the vol up/down button to go to "backup and restore" and press the "Trackball" to select it. Follow the instructions to backup your current Rom. This is important as you can go back to your stock Rom is you are not happy with the new one. The "power" button lets you go back to the previous menu. Select "wipe data/factory reset" by pressing the Trackball. (I then went to "advanced" and "wipe dalvic cache". I don't know if this is needed, but it doesn't hurt). Then you just go to "install zip from sdcard" and select the Zip file for your new Rom.
4. Follow the the instructions for installing your preferred custom Rom and Gapps etc. I think jordfaz's MiniCM9 Rom together with "tiny gapps" which will get you Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS 4.0.4) might be as good as it gets with a Wildfire at the moment. What follows is how I got MiniCM9 running.
Make sure you have put the MiniCM9.zip file and the Tiny Gapps zip file on the root directory of your sd card.before you do step 3 above. Then in the CWM recovery just go to "install zip for sdcard" and select the miniCM9 zip. After it says installed just "reboot system now" and let the phone start normally. It will take over 5 minutes. After it has fully started power the phone down. Then press the vol down and power buttons together to reboot into the recovery screen. Go to recovery and press the power button to select. (I thought this would get you into CWM 5.0.2.0 but on my wildfire I got the original recovery. So go to "apply update from sdcard" press Trackball and you will have CWM 5.0.2.0) Then go to "install zip from sdcard" and select Tiny Gapps zip file. After it says installed just reboot phone and let it start normally and you have a fully working version of CM 9.1 ICS!
Finally a few tips about using MiniCM9. ICS puts more demands on the processor than Froyo so in settings go to Performance and set max cpu speed to 691 and min to 176. Also set CPU governor to "Smartass2". I didn't get any FC's with these settings. (I like to play the game "geocaching" and I was really impressed with how well the overclocked ICS Wildfire runs "cgeo"). Also one of the small bugs with MiniCM9 is that the soft keys below the screen work but don't light up (Not a major flaw in my opinion). Also the installed fm radio causes a reboot. I just installed "Spirit FM" from Play Store. Sounds good. There is also no email app in tiny gapps so just get gmail from Play Store.
One final tip if you want to be able to use the Trackball to wake the phone. Go to the app "Terminal Emulator" type "su" and press enter, then type "trackballwake" and press enter and the Trackball can be used to wake the Wildfire.
That's about all I know. Hope it helps you get the most out of your Wildfire!
Glad to see that you finally got it
Should be a help for all the future wildfire users who unlocked their device before via HTCdev
Actually, I see HTCDev producing far more errors than others will. You need to include in your guide that it will void warranty, unlike S-OFF, and also that you will not have access to partitions such as radio etc.
Also, you will need to flash boot.img after flashing ROMs, or you'll go into a bootloop.
Nice step by step instructions.. Good work man !
Good...
