I seem to have a problem with my signature not appearing when using Email 2.3.
My common practice when I want to create an email is to first select the recipients address from my contacts folder which then prompts for whether I want to use Gmail or Email. If I select Gmail, everything works correctly with my signature appearing in the text field of the message. If I do the same thing but select Email instead of Gmail, no signature appears in the text area when the Email app opens. If I open the Email app directly and go to compose, the signature appears as it should in the text field.
This problem occurred after moving from FR008 to CM7 and has persisted since I installed the first CM7 build.
Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone running CM7 + Email 2.3 reproduce this problem, or is it just me?
Thanks
so you were using the htc mail program? i'm not sure if there is an inherent difference between the htc email and the email 2.3 in cm7. try a 3rd party email program perhaps and see if the problem persists?
Email 2.3 is the Gingerbread email app. I'm simply trying to confirm whether or not this is a known problem related to this new version.
I don't have a high enough post count yet to post in the development section, or I would have done so.
I am also using the Email 2.3 app, if you hit menu -> Account Settings -> signature. it should work. signature is the third button down in the account settings menu

I am having a problem with the email app, and wonder if anyone has seen this or can suggest a solution.
When I open the app to add an email account, I get a window which (patronizingly) explains how I will be done in 2 easy steps; I hit Next; I get a window asking for url and password ECXEPT this time the Next box is grayed out. I can't hit Next! There is also a "Manual Setup" button next to the Next button but it is also gray and I cannot press it either. My only option is to escape. I reset to factory settings. Same problem. There must be a defect in my factory settings? Is this a symptom of a bigger problem? Can I fix this, or download a fresh copy? How do I check email?
thanks to anyone who can solve this riddle,
alphanzo
have you tried entering your email and password?
yeah its not URL is email you put in.And the email app sucks anyways. go to market place and download k-9. Its much better, with the same type of easy setup.
Of course I've tried that. For instance, I type: mail.pas.rochester.edu. and [password], still nothing. And why would "manual setup" also not work? I don't want load my phone with redundant apps, and iif this one is not working how do I know there isn't a greater problem?
Its not asking for a url or your email server ip. Its asking for your actual email address. ie [email protected]ter.edu or whatever it may be.

What type of email are you trying to set up? I had the same problem when trying to set up my hotmail account. It wont accept much except gmail, i think?
it accepts most pop3/imap style email boxes
E-mail configuration on G1
Hi friends,
I have another problem with e-mail (POP3/IMAP) application on G1.
Everything's working fine except the e-mail automatic checking (that could be set up on some period of time) and deleting messages from the server.
1. Automatic checking (for POP3 or IMAP settings) is not working - don't know why... So, I have to check e-mail manually by clicking in Inbox or using refresh button
2. Deleting messages (for POP3 settings) is not working at all. Even if it is set up to delete messages from the server and message is deleted - it is going to Trash folder, then if it is deleted from Trash and refreshed it is still existing on the server and in the Trash folder on G1. I really don't know how to get it working... I have tried a few settings and it is not removing messages from the server at all.
Is anybody have it working? Thanks in advance for any help!
Regards.

It is the same for me using [email protected] with the correct password, just keeps saying that the username or password is wrong, which it isnt.
Before only on the Gmail app were we able to add signatures. Now with Froyo the Email app also gets it too . No more copy and pasting signatures from the notepad from me
This is probably awesome for everybody that use Microsoft Exchange, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.
Good find, Vandam.

Signature Doesn't Work in Replies
I'm using Froyo FRF72 and have attempted to set up a Signature in the Email app to indicate that I'm replying from my phone. However, it seems like the signature is only included on new messages and not replies to existing messages. Has anyone noticed this? I wonder if it's a bug or just a poor design? I'm more likely to reply to existing emails on my phone than create new emails, and would like the signature to indicate that I'm replying from my phone so the recipient understands why it might be a bit more brief than usual.
how about different signatures from different email accounts? for example, i want to use one signature from my exchange e-mail, and a different signature from my yahoo account, etc.

Yes, you can. Each account has it's own settings.
My signature is not added when I'm replying to a mail. Is there any way to enable this?
Reply Bug
Yes, the reply issue is a bug. I reported it on the Google Code site and at least got an initial response from development. I assume it will be fixed in the next release (or will keep my fingers crossed on an incremental update). That and the Exchange partial wake issue really cause problems and have me considering using Touchdown.
I was running touchdown before, but I don't like how it keeps its own contact sync separate from the phone. Feels like I'm syncing my contacts twice. Plus, an extra app taking up memory always bothers me.
Its a great app though. Does more advanced Exchange features than my WinMo 6.5 phone did.
I'd like to know about other people's experiences with CM6 and Exchange. With the stock email app, I have noticed at times that at times it would start using a lot of cpu, and stop receiving emails. I did have "all email" sync, but these issues would happen randomly after all of my mailbox was downloaded; could this have anything to do with it? I would have to reboot my phone for email to start working again. After reading about people's experience in the CM6 thread I thought it might be appropriate to have an altogether separate thread. I did notice some users having similar issues, and that TouchDown is a good alternative.
So about 2 weeks ago, I started trying it. Problem is, when I go to add a contact (discovered this by long pressing a number to create a contact), it will let me create a "TouchDown contact", but only with names. I contacted touchdown support and they said that no other applications can have access to TouchDown data for "security". I did put in a feature request for an optional contacts integration, because my Aria is a work phone, and every contact I add I *need* synced. I did think about adding contacts to Google account, and then installing Google/Outlook sync on my work pc, but this seems too convoluted.
Has CM6 exchange improved in any of the nightly builds? If I choose to go back to the stock email app, is there any way that if I run into these issues again I can provide debugging information? The only thing I really liked about TouchDown was the search email feature, but this is in no way a feature request for the stock email app. xD
Why not ask in the cm6 thread instead of starting a new one?
I've been using stock exchange mail client since the beginning of CM6 on aria, haven't ran into any major issues with it. The only problem I have with it is that sometimes the deleted email on aria still show up on desktop outlook.

Just wanted to add that stock client does stop getting emails ( very rarely for me), instead of rebooting, I just forse close the app and restart it again.

For adding/syncing contacts (using touchdown for email) I added the exchange account (under stock email settings) and set it to never check mail, but still sync contacts and calendar. I am going to see if this combination with touchdown works, as the email app is required to run if syncing exchange contacts is to work at all. I hope don't run into the process hanging without email actually syncing. I'm still waiting this trial out to see if touchdown is worth it; they did add a new feature that shows the number of new emails in the notification icon (I don't recall if this is in the stock email app).
Hi All
Anyone else got this problem
I updated yesterday to 2.3, and now I'm having problem with the htc mail with Hotmail account as a Exchange sync.
Fist off all it won't download any of my past emails, even when i change the option to 30 days or 3 days etc..
Secondly every time i read an email for delete one and it does a refresh it pull all the emails down again thinking its a new set-up, so it doesn't mark the emails on the server.
Anyone know of any fix for this?
Nik
Hotmail never worked for me using HTC Mail App. I use touchdown now.. much better, but you gotta pay for it
I have the same issue as you describe, would believe it is consistent on all 2.3.3 DHD devices.
Exchange (via HTC mail) on froyo did not work with the Hotmail server, and it seems they still haven't got it working as it should with 2.3.3 either.
Does anyone know where i can get the Android Mail apk for 2.3.3
I tried looking for it on 4shared but with no luck. I downloaded "Enhanced Email" from the market and it works exactly the same way!

Is the Mail apk (I assume you mean the default email app on nexus s) the same as "improved email" app? it's free from marketplace and I use it everyday with @hotmail, @msn, and @live account. All exchanges work just great (you must know you need to use server: "m.hotmail.com" in exchange settings right?).
So I think there is no need to use mail apk app or the HTC one, "improved email" is just good.

Downloaded it, b ut it won't install, i also do have unknown sources ticked.
Hi,
I found I had the same problem with the HTC email app when I upgraded to a Gingerbread ROM.
The only way I was able to resolve the issue was to delete all five accounts then manually add each account again (three IMAP gmail, two POP hotmail).
Everything has worked since then (although I don't like how the unread count now relates to since you last used the app rather than actual amount of unread messages).
Hope this helps.
p.s. good to see another LFC fan. With King Kenny at the helm and Suarez buzzing, we've got a good chance of getting back in the Champions League next year - all we need is a top left back and good wingers.
I am expericencing this issue also but on my HTC Evo. Ive tried everything i can think of and nothing. No one has a fix yet? Do I need to install a different email app???
still searching for a link to download the APK :S

I use hotmail and with the Android 2.3 update whenever I delete emails through the Mail app they just keep coming back. If I delete a new message before opening it it comes back as a new message and give me the notification and everything. I have not had issues with hotmail and the mail app until 2.3. Will probably flash back to 2.2 if this is a known issue unless someone has any info. thanks.
I had this issue on 2.2 (htc hero) when I flashed between different roms. If you aren't currently using your Exchange (active sync) email account on your phone. I ended up setting my hotmail up with that and used some settings I found online. Once I did that I didn't have the 'new message' issue anymore.
I actually ended up finding the default android email app online and installed that and it now works properly. Unfortunately it doesn't show the nice little number on the envelope for how many emails I have but that is a minor issue. I deleted the HTC Mail app using titanium. Guess I keep it as is for now.
I was trying out mik shifted g, and yahoo would not work with the htc app at all. Even went back to cm to copy all the settings on paper to input manually on sense, but it will not pull my emails, although it says connection is fine.
