[Q] I need your help! Random Reboot sucks! - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
i have problems with random reboots since the Android NAND Version.
My HD2 just reboots automatically after a few hours or also sometimes after a few minutes (it doesnt matter which android rom I installed..) - I also updated on MAGLDR 1.12 but the bug is still here.
Does anybody know, how to fix this bug?
Thanks!

same here i doo task 29 no problem .....

always use task 29 and no problem

do task 29 no more problems trust mi its easy and safe i do thet..radio is same but at the and put in boot loader and install rom what you wish
BUT can be also radio what rom and what radio you have

Well, what do you mean with task 29?
I'm using MDJ's Cyanogenmod 2.6 NAND with the newest radio (2....whatever lol)

Use this tool and select the Task29 only. Task29 formats the NAND memory area. After completing the Task29 the phone will reboot, as it does hold the volume down button so you boot back into bootloader mode (if you miss this the phone will hang as there is no longer any rom to boot into - it's been formatted ) If this happens just remove the battery and boot into bootloader mode yourself. You will then need to reinstall magldr and reflash your Android rom.

Are you using setcpu to overclock? Going higher than what your device can stand can cause reboots. Also make sure you are not low on memory.

Thank you for your tipps guys.
I just used Task 29, installed MAGLDR 1.12 and installed MDJ's Cyanogenmod 2.6, thought that it worked but he rebootet two times in the last 3 hours again.
So is there anything else i can try? I mean, a friend of mine has the same bug, but with MAGLDR 1.11 and an older version of Cyanogenmod... :/
Oh and im not overclocking my phone, just use it with the default settings etc.

same here.
Random reboots ever since nand.

Yeah, it just sucks.
Would be interesting to know, why it works on other devices without problems... i dunno but maybe its the radio?

+1
i also have the same problem.. the frequency of the reboots vary from radio to radio, i have flashed ALL the available radios and ended up on 2.14.50.04, this giving me around 40-60 hours between the reboots.. my solution to the annoyance was to turn of PIN lock thus eliminating the need to enter PIN code when the phone resets.
no solution to the problem yet..
problem started before NAND in my case.
i have noticed that the reboots happen more frequent at night when the phone is charging (checking this by looking at the uptime).
solutions to this problem would be awesome!
MAGLDR 1.13
Radio 2.14.50.04
MDJ cyanogen 2.6

Didn't read this thread too carefully but I saw someone mentioning overclocking. It seems a very likely cause to me too, don't forget some (kernel) devs overclock by default. Download SetCPU (its free on xda) and limit your clockspeed to something like 900 MHz and check if that fixes it.

i dont know if MDJ overclocks, but when i downloaded SetCPU and clocked to 1267mhz and the speed difference is just astonishing !!! 7 hours uptime and counting.. i will update on next random reboot.

Overclocking is exactly what you don't want to do...

that might be, ill underclock next time the phone reboots and see if it makes any difference..

my hd2 = tried task29, tried ALL the nand roms, NEVER overcloced my phone...tried different radios etc.....still reboot reboot reboot.
matt

try this: Change your mobile network mode from WCDMA/GSM auto --> GSM. If this helps i think it's not software problem. this fault is also happens stock wm

@heitaas:
i tried your "workaround" and i'm happy to say that it helped. no reboots since 2 days for now (and i had a lot of them)!
maybe some of the dev's out there could use this information to fix this problem!
edit:
sorry.... bad news.... i had a f...... reboot again

Well, I tried it to underclock my HD2 with SetCPU but i didnt helped - any new ideas?
Maybe an another Radio or whatever?

You could try switching off the automatic network selection. I had these same rebooting issues, but when I switched to manual network selection, I haven't had any more random reboots. It has worked for some of us.

[Q] HD2 Random Reboot Issue with Android in Nand

Hello everybody,
I came from a nrg on a leo512.
I have installed MAGLDR 1.11 in order to use Android in my NAND.
But I've some random reboot from my device and most of them are when I'm standby mode when I woke up the morning the phone asks me for the pin code...
It's strange when I boot I saw in first for 1-2 sec NRG bootscreen before MAGLDR...
That's why I'm wondering If you think my HD2 NAND is clean ?
Should I make a task29 ? I heard that tools earses all the data...
All your helps are welcome !
Regards
ditto
I have this problem also..
Norwegian HD2..
I have tried quite a few radios.. plowing through all the available radios as we speak.. if i get a reboot i flash a new radio in hope of figuring out the problem.. the weird thing is i dont get this while using WP7... i get reboots in all other OS.. a quick fix for the SIM lock annoyance is to disable PIN code but does not fix the problem itself.. anyone have any thoughts on what this may be?

This is normal.
The custom ROM you were using has flashed a custom boot screen. As MAGLDR is installed AFTER this in the chain (Boot1->Magldr->Radio & NAND), it does not alter the screen. You can actually install a custom boot screen to replace this. Check Here for some.
As for the reboots, check the sticky link in my sig. There is a FAQ in there which may offer some help.
Also try post 2 of THIS
looks promising

Update: Ended up on 2.11.50.20 and its been 20 hours since i flashed the radio.. still no reboot... looks promising, ill update if the situation changes...
Update: 2.11.50.20 was no success, 2.15.50.04 seems to be the best radio in my case.. about 60 hours between reboots has been quite consistent
lately.. i wonder what causes this. ideas and\or sollutions are recieved with gratitude. Disabled the SIM lock so its nothing to worry about but it stil gives me headache.
Although the posts above me may be right, it seems that after I disabled over clocking on my hd2, the issue was no longer present.
As always, remember what your mommy taught you; it's proper to say "please and thank you".

I tried this solution, but it didn't resolve anything. I'm using mdj's cyanogen mod 2.6 with the latest radio and magdlr 1.13. I' m not using set CPU anymore. I was using it to underclock the phone and I was still getting restarts. The phone's temperature did not seem excessive either. This is a great phone but these restarts are making it almost useless. I'm at a lost here.

Like I said, it works for some of us. I haven't had any rebooting issues, after I turned of the automatic network selection. Some Norwegians fixed this issue, by turning of the 3G. You could try removing the sim-card and leaving the phone at sleep mode for few hours, in order to see, if your phone is still suffering from the random reboots. If so, the problem is somewhere else and I can't help you with it, because I haven't had such issues.
I resloved the issue by sending the phone back to HTC and having the mainboard replaced. Now the phone is working exactly as it should.

[Q] bricked tmous hd2 from freezing android?

hi all, long time viewer first time poster, i have been reading many post on the net trying to find a definite answer on my tmous hd2 but with no luck. My problem started when i was running android (sandisk mirco sd, yes i know the incompatibility issues, it came with the phone). I was playing music through headphones while charging and suddenly the phone froze with a buzzing sound until i battery flipped, first thing it did when i started it back up again is vibrate approximately 5 times at boot flash screen (indicating excessive heat?), so i battery flipped again and waited 10 mins then i tried to start again and it just froze at boot screen, it would keep doing this and every now and then it will boot to wm, but sooner or later it will freeze in wm and then have booting problems, its still doing this today after doing all the following: 1.flash another custom rom. 2.flashed another radio. 3.task 29. 4. flashed stock rom & radio. 5. flashed nandroid 6.tried different capacity and brand sd cards & none at all.
I now have a hd7 because I couldnt fix it and didnt want to shed the cash they are still asking for a hd2, but i do want to fix the phone to play around more with it, i did look at the possible solution unbrick with jtag thread but im thinking the phone is perma bricked, when it was working it has had alot of custom rom flashes so i dont know if that makes much a difference but i would greatly appreciate some advice, THANKYOU XDA FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

Please mention your RADIO, HSPL and the last Android Rom in which this happened!
If your phone is booting, it's not bricked. Did you try another SD card? Have you tried doing a low level format on your SD card? If it were me I'd Format the SD card with an adapter on my PC, low level. Then I would put it back in the phone then run Task29. Then flash MAGLDR 1.1. Then Flash the CMY 1.4n Desire HD Nand build in the HD2 Nand Android Development forum. It's the most stable Nand build up there right now.
I would use the 2.15 radio that comes with the newest Tmobile ROM. You might have to download the 3.14 ROM from Tmobile and flash it first to get the Radio in there. Then Task29 after that. MAGLDR, Then the NAND build. Make sure you find the Task29.exe that doesn't have a radio paired with it. it's on this site somewhere.

hd2 running MIUI freezing up too
I'm a complete noob here so bare with me. I'm currently experiencing the same probs as lewy255 with the hd2 freezing up. It happens every now and then when I'm accessing certain apps. When the hd2 does freeze up, i have to take the battery out, wait, then boot up again. Once it tries to boot up it freezes on magldr, then i got to take out the battery again, wait, then power it on again. It seemed to happen when i first rooted my hd2. The first ROM i flashed after rooting was typhoon CM7. Currently have:
HSPL 2.08
radio 2.15.50.14
MIUI version: 1.5.27
I hope this isnt a hardware issue cause i bought this phone from one of my friends and he didn't have the receipt. Please advise on what i can do to fix this freezing issue.
Thanks
Sounds like cpu overheat freeze. When you were playing music and charging it the first time it froze, was the phone and/or battery hot?
It's very possible that it got too hot once, and now the cpu its self gets too hot much easier now that it has already happened once.

Cpu overheat freeze? So its a hardware issue? What if I ran task29, and reinstalled magldr, clockworkMod, and then MIUI, do u think that would fix the freezing issue?

No I do not think that will help your situation. I think your HD2 is starting to show signs of hardware break down. More specifically a breakdown in the connection of the processor and the main board. The only permanent if this is the case is to replace the main board.

I tried installing setCPU and adjusted the temperature setting so if got too hot then the speed of the phone would be reduced, but still no luck.
What if i unrooted the phone and put everything back to stock? I think that way i will know for sure that its a hardware issue. I dont know much about phones but your probably right. I'll try running task29 and reinstall everything and see if that works, if not then i will un-root and put everything back to stock and test.
Is it an undervolted kernel? Might cause problems, but I'm with mac here on it being a hardware problem, since you flashed back to winmo stock and you still had problems.

in my opinion and its just my opinion, but you should flash a winmo 6.5 build than boot android from sd its safer because theres no need to worry about battery dying in magldr. and if theres a nand rom you want to try out i suggest using port a droid. im using now with the new nexus 2.8 with a 1gb data.img and it runs great plus i have 3 other builds on there also.

[Q] What is a good ROM?

Hello,
I recently had my HD2 setup with MAGLDR 1.11 and a stock DHD ROM, however this froze constantly and seemed to get worse over time, as well as all together failing to boot sometimes.
So I updated MAGLDR to 1.13 found a nice rom "Typhoon CM7" I believe, downloaded the radio it sugested and flashed it, downloaded CWM and flashed it, and then flashed the ROM from SD using CWM.
Sadly however this has not fixed my freezes/failures to boot, im starting to think it might be hardware related.
So what I am asking is does somebody have a ROM that is working really well for them that they could sugest to me?
Thanks,
Alex.
everyone has different opinions, do you want a version with or without sense?
personally i like sense so am using imilkas ram hd version ,its fast and very stable
Well i usually tend to go for ROMs without sense, but i am pretty impartial to it.

Which ROMs have you tried already, and what was wrong with them?
I have tried one of the many DHD stock ROMs and Typhoon CM7, as well as Raphroid and Ultradroid.
I frequently get a freeze at "GO GO GO" in MAGLDR 1.13, and then once the ROM does eventually succeed to boot, it often locks up.
Some ROMs seemed to do better then others overall however, Typhoon CM7, successfully booted most frequently.
In all cases I have used recommended radio's.
However the greatest hassle has been flashing them as I can only get CWM to boot 1 out of 20 times after multiple reflashings, it often gives me an error stating "FATALHIT 1".
Does everyone get behaviour like this?
Hmm.
That's Weird I Have Tried Lots of these roms and they all seem stable and fast on my hd2

i am too having a lot of problems when booting up from maglrd. It freezes or gets hit fatal error. Do anyone know a good stable rom that doesn't freeze when booting up,and has great battery life?

All of them. End of story. This is due to user error. Not build related

Yeah, Im starting to think my hardware is damaged, I used to use the SD RAM rom that Dark Forces released, and I guess it did not benifit my device, as it would frequently get quite hot after 20min of straight use.
How does this ROM run with the 2.15.50.14 radio?
If it is also laggy and has bugs, then I think your phone might be broken.
For me all roms using SD-EXT are laggy as hell and i personally stopped testing those roms as I'm already used to the smoothness of Gingerbread... I'm searching almost everyday though these topics to find somebody who says "This is a really smooth Sense rom!". But never seen a comment like that.

[26.Mar][Fix] ★★★MARKET INCOMPATIBLE ISSUES, Bootloops, Random reboots -AND MORE- ★★★
MOST ASKED QUESTION ARE ANSWERED IN THE LINK BELOW :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945427
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This thread was opened as a question, but now I have some solutions, so I thought I should change it to a fix. Hope this helps!
Introduction:
"Your device is not compatible with this item"/market incompatible issues
Possible solutions to fix the random reboots
Possible solutions to fix bootloops
1. "Your device is not compatible with this item"/market incompatible issuesI will list the solutions that I know about, hope this helps. (if you have other solutions, please reply in the thread)
1. Clear market cache.
2. Edit this in system/build.prop to make market recognize your phone as sgs2
Code:
ro.product.model=[B]GT-I9100[/B]
ro.product.brand=[B]samsung[/B]
ro.product.name=[B]GT-I9100[/B]
ro.product.device=[B]GT-I9100[/B]
ro.product.board=[B]GT-I9100[/B]
ro.build.product=[B]GT-I9100[/B]
3. Change DPI to 240.
4. Download Market Enabler.
Go to the settings list and long-press Verizon [us] and then fake this provider now.
5. Currently working for me:
LCD Density Modder Pro
What the app does, is to download a vending.apk to your phone based your preferred dpi. The vending.apk has a "hack" inside, which will trick market to think that your phone is on 240 dpi.
It's a paid app, but it's worth it.
2. Possible solutions to fix the random reboots
- Turn off automatically detect time
- Turn off automatically back light.
- Do not overclock
- Turn off Background data and Auto-sync: Menu > accounts & sync > uncheck "Auto-sync" and "Background data"
The options above "may" fix your rebooting issue, but the one that helped me (no reboots for over 4 months) and few other people was:
Go to Settings - Wireless & networks - Mobile networks - Network operators
Now choose your network operator manually.
I think this fixed my random rebooting issue because sometimes my phone would disconnect from my network and that's when the reboots occurred.
Another "proof" is that the random rebooting was reduced while using magldr. As we know, magldr is more stable when it comes to data, as it uses RMNET. So the disconnecting may be the issue.
Anyways, it worked for me, I hope it works for you too.
3. Possible solutions to fix bootloops
Update 15.FEB.2012:
(Thanks to Seadersn for the idea)
Increasing the partition that contains the bad blocks will not always help.
To fix this, try increasing the first partition (which is recovery, in cLK)
Code:
fastboot oem part-resize recovery:50
Code:
fastboot oem part-commit
If your phone won't pass the android screen after a reboot, try decreasing the recovery partition. I ended up at 10.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Make sure you have performed a task 29 (clean install) before complaining about anything
- If you flashed or edited something in your system, then rebooted and your phone was stuck, then try to go back to how your phone was.
For example:
If you were using kernel 1, but then flashed kernel 2, which caused the bootloops, re flash kernel 1, and it should be fixed
The solution for most of the people:
The Htc Hd2 came out in 2009, and if you are one of the people that have been using it since, then your phone is pretty old. We flash our nands very often, as new rom/kernel updates are released. This is causing bad blocks on the nand. Bad blocks are mostly causing bootloops, but it can even cause small issues like app2sd not working (funny, but it happened to me).
Solution:
Connect your phone to your pc and open the folder where the adb tools are located. Open terminal and type in:
Code:
adb shell dmesg
You will see a lot of text... Scroll down and you should see something like:
Code:
###BAD BLOCK 1234 56789###
###BAD BLOCK 1234 56789###
OR (recommended) (CLK ONLY):
Enter cLK bootloader. Connect your phone to your pc. Open cmd inside a folder containing fastboot files and type in this: (similar to task29)
Code:
fastboot oem format-all
If you do not see any bad blocks, you are lucky if you do, then do this:
- CLK USERS ONLY:
- THIS WILL DELETE YOUR CURRENT ROM AND CWM!
- You need fastboot drivers working on your computer
1. Install clk 1.5 link
2. Turn off phone. Click on power button once, and hold back button. Connect your phone.
3. Download fastboot.zip (scroll down)
4. Locate to the folder where the .zip is located and extract it. Hold shift while right clicking (inside the folder), open terminal.
5. This part depends on where your bad blocks are located. For example, lets say it is located in "system" then type this in the terminal:
Code:
fastboot oem part-resize system:160
The "160" is just an example. You will need to experiment with the partition size.
My bad blocks are located in "misc". After some minutes with experimenting, I ended up with increasing it to 25.
IMPORTANT:
When you are done re sizing your partition, type this in your terminal:
Code:
fastboot oem part-commit
Your phone should now reboot. Re flash cwm, then install your rom and check if it boots now.
ADVANCED ADVANCED USERS ONLY!If you have bad blocks, and task 29 is not erasing it, you can try something called task2a using mtty. It is not guaranteed that this will erase your bad blocks, but there is a possibility.
You will need some drivers and mtty installed.

lol i know
im trying to help ya figure it out
ive never had the reboot problem
the only one i know who did was having it but he was useing
setcpu and your not using it
This is a longshot, but maybe its hardware related, like its been dropped to many times. Does it randomly freeze up or just reboot? I've had a few customers come in with similar issues, and one thing that seemed to work was scaling the CPU back to 800mhz in the cm7 performance settings. I'm not sure why, but its worked most of the time in my shop.

it does not freeze at all :/ only rebooting.. It doesn't happen when I'm using it, only when it is in standby mode.
I've exactly the same problem. Device is rebooting only in idle/standby mode. Time between reboots seems to be ~2 hours.
-Radio Rom 2.15.50.14
Already tried to:
-Turn off automatically detect time
-Turn off automatically back light.
-Turn off mobile network (only turn on when needed)
-change maximum and minimum cpu to 460-800 Mhz
-with TyphooN_CM7_v3.7.0-cLK and 35-AmeriCanAndroid+122011(magldr)
-Tried with Magldr (1.13) or CLK (1.4.0.1)
-remove SD Card in case of incompatibility
does anybody has solved his problem? Another thing I can try?
I had forgotten this thread haha
The solution that helped me.. ever since june 2011 was to select my operator manually. No reboots since
Thanks! Helped!
goddamn, if that fixes it im gonna be SO happy lol
I had that problem a few days ago. I think its actually rom related .. on the new ics builds its been common for my phone to reboot but then other more stable roms it shouldn't be rebooting.. when I first noticed the reboots was a few days ago I converted an official miui rom to clk (not on xda) and randomly when I checked my phone it would be turned off or rebooting, this occurred several times.. today I updated to the newest miui 2.1.6 and converted it to clk but I haven't noticed any random reboots yet.. so maybe (hopefully) rom related.

I have been having this problem more often using sense 3.0 Roms. I would like to know what the issue is as well!?
yea I notice it more in sense 3 roms also. Ive ran rom cleaner v6 super charger script ,different ram optimizer apps ,task 29 ,re flash radio, choose network provider manually.
I dont know what else to try lol."besides flashing back to win 6.5"
My wife has a hd2 we bought ours together and she does not have this issue. But Ive only flashed very few roms on it and she likes cm7 roms so I dont know.
I just know when I switch the phone to 2G only they stop. Period . Doesnt re boot unless i reboot it. Its really pi$$ing me off though.
Sometimes it will re boot like 3 times in a row and then it wont for hours "Really Random" lol

try rom cleaner 2.0 but its vicious and wile wipe ur sd card also, but for the best solution try..............USING ROOT EXPLORER,GO TO.............
SYS/MODULE/lowmemorykiller/parameters,then long press minfree ,open in text editor and edit the numbers to whats best for ur phone.......
Thanks for the info Ive tried rom cleaner and v6 supercharger script. the only thing that works is switching the phone to 2g mode.
Ive not tried rom cleaner 2.0 though is there something special about that version?
It also does it on eu roms and I have a tmous phone so I dont think that limited space is my issue. On sense 3 roms after supercharger script I have 150mb"at least" of Ram so I don't think that lack of ram is the issue either.
Does anyone think flashing back to win 6.5 will help? I mean Ive done a task 29 and ran Carls wipe it zip, I think everything would be erased after that.

Is there anyway to log/debug the phone to see what is causing this annoying problem? I've the EXACT problem as you...2G ok but 3G random reboots...
Some people said it could be bad NAND blocks, but yesterday I've moved to NativeSD ROM (no NAND blocks anymore) and the issue still persists...HELP!!!!!!!!!!
