[Q] Froyo App2sd method: how to backup or wipe? - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi all,
i wrote here cause i think it's not a general question.
I use CM 6.1 as my daily rom and I erased my EXT partition in favor of the original froyo app2sd method.
Now I have a problem. The recovery ( amon 1.7 ) can backup the ext partition. How can i backup the app2sd folder created by froyo on the FAT partition of the sd? And what's happen if I change the rom without removing the android_secure folder and its data?
I want to try the new GB roms but i want a working Froyo backup with all my apps...
How can i do?
Thanks!

No one can help me?

App2sd - sd card

Hi guys,
I’m using VillianRom 12 with app2sd and just wondering how can I replace with new one along with all installed programs. Is it just copy function or I have to run recovery mode?
Thanks

I don't understand.
"how can I replace with new one along with all installed programs" - do you mean how can you put a new ROM on without losing the programs? Simple answer is that you can't. You have to wipe the sd card's ext partition for a new rom. Having said that you can backup all of your apps using titanium backup and restore them after the wipe.
See my sig for a guide on backing up between wipes.
If your question was about having a new SD you can do a nandroid backup + ext and install it after wiping everything and with your new SD in your phone...

Safe to flash an adsd+ Android Rom on my existing one?

I have Hyperdroid with CNM 7 and a2sd+ partitioned SD card.
My question to you guys is..
Is it safe to flash another Android Rom with a2sd+ on my existing one?
Or do i need to flash my Card with Panasonic SD Format and make a new partition?
Whats the best a2sd+ ROM in your opinion?
Sorry if might this had posted before..it's just a quick question

Hi,
The ext2/3/4/ partition does not get changed when you flash a new ROM.
You should be fine to flash a new ROM over your old one.
Don't forget to backup your data and when you go into MAGLDR wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(in advanced).
Each ROM comes with its own CWM partition to flash in recovery.Do this, then flash your new ROM...
As for which ROM to choose,Imilka does a nice line in A2SD ROMS.
(Please remember, that this is only MY opinion)
Check here:

That was very helpful man! Cheers!
If you're coming from a different ROM then you should do a back up using titanium backup before installing new ROM. It's highly possible it will have conflicts. Install app2sd when you close to run out space in your internal memory. Say, when you install a NAND ROM everything goes into your internal memory and whatever left should be use mostly before installing app2sd. Installing app2sd will take 195Mb from SD card and stop using your remaining space in internal memory.

[Q] JokerDroid + AlphaRev + Sense Fix

Hello
I installed JokerDroid ROM and I really like it. After fresh install i have 167mb of free internal memory ( because of a2sd). But as we know there are some problems with sense based roms (2.2.1) and AlphaRev - no setup wizard, no htc wallpapers... and MMS send/receive problem.
After that i flashed Sense fix. Now i got working setup wizard and most important I can send and receive MMS.
But the problem is that after fix i get only 120mb of free internal space and all new apps are installed on phone. Somehow that Sense fix destroyed a2sd option.
Is there a way how to fix this?
Thanks
The 167mb free memory after fresh installation is not because of a2sd. Make sure you have created ext partition correctly. Then install "a2sdgui" from market and see if it is working.

I installed ext partition correctly because i was using it normal last month with this ROM.
Before i created ext partition i got 120mb free with this ROM(fresh install) and after i created ext i get 167mb. Also after ext partition when i install angry birds it uses only about 2mb of internal storage, before about 22mb. So yes ext partition works.
The problem starts when i flash Sense fix.
Any idea?

No idea. I haven't used jokerdroid actually. So, maybe I'm out of knowledge. But I doubt getting 120MB free memory on fresh install (without ext partition).
And regarding angry birds, suppose if you install it without ext partition, I guess it will be installed to ".android_secure" folder of sdcard (atleast on stock froyo rom). Because it supports default apps2sd and also has default install location to sdcard (fat partition). So, maybe you shouldn't consider it on judging that ext partition works.

Re-enable A2SD using the terminal emulator with the required commands (a2sd reinstall and a2sd cachesd), or, download A2SD GUI from the market and re-enable it.
Just before I read this last post i fixed this problem with A2SDGUI. I found that after Sense Fix the dalvik cache was moved to internal storage. I just moved it back to sd and now it works.
Thanks to both of you for your answers.

Same as any rom, flash it in recovery. But if you mean running sense on a cyanogenmod rom it's more complex, you'd have to port it from another source

[Titanium Backup] Set up Backup Properly

Hi there !
Im currently Running Kyrillo's Rom 7.0 and using a 2GB SC CARD.
Since i've partitioned it to use the A2SD+ function avaible for android, and also created a SWAP partition, how do i backup my apps ?
Seems like i have to choose which partition to backup and where to backup or w.e
How do i do that in case i need to Wipe my data again to flash another rom ?
Thanks in advance !
You need a fat32 partition on your sdcard to save your backups. Have you left some space on there or did you use it all up with swap and a2sd ?

[Q] Resize rocovery partition

If I resize my recovery partition on my HD2, is all data on my SD card lost? and would i have to reflash a new NAND ROM?
Repartitioning your internal memory will not affect the data on your sd card in any way.
Yes, you would have to flash a new ROM, or restore a backup.
so i take it the recovery partition clockwork uses it not on that sd card
which leads to my other question, if my rom requires a 169mb recovery and i use a 400mb recovery, will it work?
yes it will work, but you will waste 231mb of rom space. This is because you will set a system partition of 400mb, and load into it 169mb of files, BUT once the rom is running, all your user data, installed apps, etc get put into different partitions. Nothing will use the extra 231mb in the system partition, so it will be completely wasted and unuseable.

is there any sense rom that will work on a 150mb recovery? if so please share the link
Very unlikely. Why not just change the size?

bored on my help desk job, was gonna mess with my rom,but if im goin to resize i rather do it at home....lol
think im gonna try the bliss rom, any takes on it?
well you could always flash the rom, play with it, then when you get home, do a cwm backup, change the part size, reflash the rom, then in cwm do an advanced restore and just restore the sd-ext and data partitions. hey presto, system size changed and any settings you configure today will be restored into the new flash.
CAnt comment on the rom, i only use typhoon.

CAUTION; the CWM partition make it is for the SD and it WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON SD , for partition internal memory u have to use other tools on a PC (my favorite its HD2 toolkit)

Typhoon has a nice stable sense rom.?
Send me a link

Typhoon is a cm7 rom. Cm7 roms don't have sense.
I CAN highly recommend it, though. I've been on an older version typhoon for over a month now, and the only bug is the occasional failed video capture. Annoying, but doesn't happen often.
