[Q] AlphaRev HBOOT 1.01.1000 S-OFF - Wildfire General

I noticed that Jacob was running this for his wildfire and after a fruitless search on XDA (cant find any new infomation from the 30th of september.) was wondering if AlphaRev 2.0, or a custiom build had been released for the wildfire so that we can get the s-off at last
or if anyone has a alternitive for me to try i would appricate the addvice you give me.

I'm testing the S-OFF

what does s-off do?

@ Jacob. oh cool i hope the testing goes well. i look forward to the release and also on a personal note your self and the CM team have done well on cm7, could i ask that in your opinion whats the most stable cm7 night build for every day use so i might be able to test it for my blog?
thanks for the speedy reply
@ btrst
s-off is a full rooting of the Hboot which allows you to have full read write to the /system folder of the android device. HTC are trying to make it harder to root newer phones there for it takes longer to get around the new nand security. i bleave this is correct if im wrong will someone please correct me

you've flashed it without jtag?
I'm hoping it. Good job!

Do you realy think that by making that statement suddenly Jacob will release a way yo root with the new HBOOT? No. So pleas stop making those remarks in all posts that mention "root", as they aren't the most polite way of showing your respect to the people who spend hours and hours making roms, performing hacks an make our mid-budget wildfire a top class phone.
I myself was stupid enough to perform the official update (as the matter of fact, i realy had to go trough a lot of work to get there), which I regret now. Just keep an eye on the forum and the official tweeds, and try to pollish the physic mood of the devs (not sure if i'm saying this right, but you get the point), as they are our only hope for rooting.
I'm sorry if I just pick on you, while you aren't the only one who's posting that kind of one-sentence willings. But pleas, re-read your post and think how you would like it if someone said something in this kind of way to you.
So jacob, keep up the good work! No mather the outcome, we do appriciate your efforts! ;-)

It may sound stupid, but I will give it a shot. I do know couple of things about programming, but I cannot find a guide "how to root a phone" in order to think of a way possible. I believe there are lots of people like me. Is someone able to give us a guide how unrevoked (for example) worked on hboot 0.83 analytically, what it did and what it can t do now, in order to try the rest of us rooting the phone? propably some of us will have an idea to bypass security etc.

Not familar to me as well but one reason might be it's just too dangerous for ordinary developers. if you do something wrong then you brick your device... and you can't just simple restore a nandroid backup because this is the part that's actually broken. I think for developing such tools you also need to connect JTAG adapters to your phone and what not.

Also, when new ways of rooting are found, some developers prefer not to disclose how it was done to the whole public as these vulnerabilities are usually patched in the next update; this is probably why we are in this situation today.
Whereas in the past I believed that information wanted to be free, I tend to rally this point of view now for two reasons. One, it keeps the idiots out, and two, it ensures that the same exploit can be used again in the future, and that you don't have to spend time re-inventing the wheel as is happening now.

I agree, but can't we assume that htc has fixed (and thus have already discovered) their leak that was previously exploited by unrEVOked? So that it is safe now to document the exploit?

Will this work on the froyo ota
EDIT: i realised what the title said (FAIL)

hello all and thank you for some great infomation. i have ot learn more from someware. and im glad that this community can just waffle on so i can keep learning.
just to think 6 months ago all i knew about android was it was a linux os on a arm based phone. and now i can root my phone test new roms and play with some really good software that is made by people for the people with out charge
even though i do a bit of programing i think it would be best to leave all the phones exploting to the best of the best. i for one am looking forward for s-off and the final release of CM7 which i think is a bee's knee's .

You're right.
I just typed a whole post full about why I was saying that, but actualy it isn't of any importance. I'm in my last week of exams now, and i think thats the reason why I'm a bit cranky.
So Yuanvp, I'm sorry, didn't mean to pick on you. It was meant for all the rest who spam every post about rooting by asking the same question over and over again.

Google rageagainstthecage, that's the exploit that was used to root the Wildfire, it's been open for ages. I'm pretty sure the unrEVOked team don't have any "closed" Wildfire exploits yet. The point is, the person who found rageagainstthecage wanted it to be open, so it was, and it was subsequently patched... After like 6 months

It seems now cm users got a new reason why they need S-OFF.
The CM Team added CPU Overclock to CMparts, but it seem its only working if you hav r/w access to /sys dir.

Reposted from Android Central (link above):
Guys and Gals -
First off, I had a read through and I'm glad for you all that it looks like you might get a working camera with the 2.1 leak. Congratulations to whomever figured it out.
Now on to the not so good news. This morning I received an email from the developer of a popular market application. It seems that someone has put out a ROM full of stolen software, and associated my name with it, as they took the boot image from one of my ROMS and called it their own. This developer and I have squared things away, so no harm no foul on my end.
It does leave me in a dilemma. Rather than have my name tossed in to a mix like this again, I've decided that I'm finished developing for the Hero. Enjoy the work, I won't take it down, and if I can get Google Earth and Nexus one wallpapers working a bit better (yes I have it loading and running, but it locks the system up after 30 seconds or so) I'll pass that fix to the few people here who have helped out so that they can package it up in any way they like.
The person responsible (and I won't name names - they know who they are, and the work they put out with my name attached isn't hard to find) has really soured me. I have been an open source developer for almost 20 years, and am very happy that the carrier I use for cellular service finally released a (mostly) open source operating system for me to play with. The way I see it this leaves me with two choices:
1. - Stop releasing work that others can use in any way they like
2. - Stop developing altogether for the Hero.
I chose number 2. There is already enough closed development and a "I'm first" mindset. That also goes against everything I believe in, so it's not an option. Bundling my name with software piracy and IP theft is not an option either. I will not let this happen again.
Keep the flames and ignorant comments to yourself please. I've thought about this all day, and this is my decision. I'll always be available to help others in any way I can, but I won't be publishing any more work. Rather then wasting time and energy to tell me how wrong I am, please use that effort to congratulate the individual who has placed me in this position. Sorry, but it is what it is.
Jerry.

Well, first lets thank gbhil for his effort, time, and work that he's put into helping us develop.
His guidance has helped almost every project associated with the CDMA Hero.
You will be missed.
That being said, let us not take this as setback. Use it as inspiration to get your own hands dirty. There's no better time than now to learn the trade.
And please, don't go on a witchhunt to attempt to bring this person to "justice." It puts the entire community into a bad light, something that a lot of us don't want.

I think when he says boot image he might mean the actual boot.img of his roms. That has to be modified for his kernel to work in the first place, so everything out there incorporating his work has in some way used it.

Although I agree the bootup animation is from older versions of Android, It's clearly 2.x+ as shown at 1:20 by the lwp, phone app instead of dialer, and a few other apps in the drawer.

[Q] Android 2.3 Gingerbread for HTC Buzz/Wildfire ???

Just wondering, but since Gingerbread is out now: I would love to know if:
a) it can be configured to run on the Wildfire?
b) how/who/when can do it, to make it happen?
c) if there are plans to build cyanogen mod on Gingerbread
Thanks and looking forward to it
You'll have to wait a few weeks as it hasn't been put on AOSP yet meaning the source isn't available. You might see a port of the emulator image on the nexus one as that has been done before with froyo. Once we have source it should(afaik) be a case of modifying the vendors that adeadrat and Jacob are using now to accommodate for the new build.prop etc.

well: I guess that wasn't the warmest possible welcome into the developing world. Hope for you guys that it's not all too rough out there ... I really have fun trying out the different custom ROMs that there are. I would even report bugs, as that's about the only thing I could contribute ...
still am excited to see how the work in Gingerbread for Wildfire is going, since I suspect it will be the last major release that can be run on the wildfire.

good work guys... please refine this rom and make the wildfire a great purchase for all people as it is a great little phone..
Also i don't know if this could be done but can something be done in regards to the resolution of the wildfire... please lol or is there a replacement screen for the wildfire? ......cause i really would like to get another screen and if anyone knows where that would be great.
I only know for the resolution of the wildfire, that there is a pixel density changer (I have no idea if this is any good, but you could look into it if you really want to change it)

New To android, looking for the right path.

So I'm new to android, not new to modding. So if someone can find the patience to set me straight on a few things. Ahem: I would like to keep a simple stock" ish " rom. I would like everything to just work. I would really like it if there was no ads on anything. Overclocked would be nice, but not if it hits the battery bigtime. So, in summary, is there a rom out there that will accomplish this for me failry easy? HTC sense is pretty cool. so that would be a plus. so Rom suggestions, mod suggestions. Very much appreciated. Time with family an gf doesn't leave me much time to my computer an phone tomfoolery.

1.Read as much as you can, don't understand ask someone will help you.
2.Most important ask your quest. in the proper thread.
3.ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID(a copy of the existing rom, settings and apps on your phone at that moment.)
4.When you read a discussion about flashing a new radio, Remember this: NEVER FLASH A RADIO THAT IS FOR A GSM HERO OR OTHER PHONE ONLY A CDMA HERO!
You will end up with a very expensive paper wieght.
5.Try to do as much searching as possible before you post a question(this should keep you from getting flamed! lol!)
Like I said previously the latest sense roms are Nfinite's Stk .7 based on the sprint 2.31.651.7 update you'll find that here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790889
Nfinite's Stk .2 Rom:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849024
Try these 2 the stk .2 is nice thats what I run overclocked.
But try either of them and see how they work for you, need anything just shout !
BTW heres a wiki link with alot of info for you to learn from:http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Hero_CDMA.png

I's just a stock sprint hero, updated to latest sense version. I read I need to roll back to sprint build no. 2.27? I'm currently on build no. 2.32.651.2 The rooting process seems like a long one using command line? The gf's moment was easy cheesy to root. no drop in an flash files for rooting the hero eh ? I"ll take a look at those roms an download. along with htc sync an.....the android sdk I beleive is what I saw.

I really don't know. I don't do anything about them because most of the Devs work or apps are free,so if they get a little back from the ads is ok with me. I think there is an app on the market that will block most ads.

Upgrading DHD to Gingerbread 2.3

Hi, not long had my DHD but it came with Stock Firmware from Orange so I successfully installed 1.32.405.6 which is all good so far!
I now want to upgrade to gingerbread 2.3 which looks good from what I've seen on youtube! Just want to know if there is an upgrade guide online anywhere? Also will I be able to downgrade to 1.32.405.6 in the future if I don't like it?
I also noticed that a few of the 2.3 roms have a few glitches with certain things not working on the phone. Is there a stable release where everything works properly as it should?
I prefer to wait for HTC to release a 2.3 version. I am sure the usual suspects will do a great job optimizing it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
does any know if 2.3 has improved bluetooth compability with mw600 headset for caller id
We only really have Cyanogenmod 7 at the moment. It's actually pretty stable for the most part but it still need work.

Someone Swyped my idea.
i myself am using mcdv's modified CM7 rom. it's actually pretty damn stable for nightly releases, and so far i have literally zero issues with it. i vowed myself before that i would wait for htc to pack sense with it and then use that but i fell in love with this rom when i tried it on.

Hello there,
i just want to know that is it possible to downgrade to froyo if i need to due to some operator related issues?
Looking forward to your kind reply.
Thanks in advance.
There are rumours about Android 2.4. Google is going to do an Android Event on Feb 2nd.
I think they will announce 2.4 officially & I think HTC is busy with updating the HTC Sense to this version of Android.
But who knows, let's hope HTC won't give up with updating our beloved Desire HD
now that would be nice.. Looking forward for it.
still stuck with the 2.2.... still not getting 2.2.1, so i'm getting little worried..

Yep. I was able to flash the leedroid froyo rom after just to see if i could. But for restoring froyo backups i think you need to reflash CWM 2.5 (because you will then be using CWM 3.0.0.5 to flash gingerbread).
Is it really needed to take half a year to get a damn update? If we eventually get 2.3 when will we get the next one, after 2 years?
The mobile manufacturers are really doing a bad job with their updates, and we need to put some pressure on them.

it's just something you have to live with, once you've got the phone they lose interest in you and try and attract new paying suckers customers, if you want the latest and greatest go with the custom ROM's i.e cm 7 which tend to be at the head of the field

And what do you consider a 'good' job? Diverting all resources to updating the DHD? What about the Desire? Or the Hero? Or all the other phones? Or maybe you think that because you bought a DHD, that's the only phone that must get updates? And what about developing new ones, so the company doesn't fall behind the competition? 2011 will see boom of tablets, dual-core CPUs and whoever knows what. According to your logic HTC should make one phone and dedicate to supporting it for years. It might work for Apple, but that's because no one but them makes IOS devices, so they don't have the same competition, as all Android manufacturers face from each other. HTC are doing the best there is regarding the updates. If you feel that's not good enough, you can always try a community ROM, HTCs devices are the first that get them anyway.

Just been to that link and saw this written in one of the posts
Here is a litte guide for using fastboot:
First of all you need the newest Android-SDK. You get this here
After installation (or extracting for Mac/Linux) copy fastboot into the "tools"-folder. You get this here
Your phone needs Engineering HBoot, have a look here
Now download CMW 3.0.0.5 into your tools-folder.
Now reboot your phone into the Bootloader, plug in USB and on your PC switch to Terminal/Command. Change into the tools-folder.
In terminal type:
fastboot-mac flash recovery ace-cwm-3.0.0.5.img
and press enter.
(If your using windows it's just fastboot and on linux it's fastboot-linux.
You can flash a radio by copying a radio.img into the tools-folder and type
fastboot-mac flash radio radio.img

I have done the first 3 but don't understand about the Terminal bit. Can someone explain?

Yeah sure, but why do you really need 2.3 what is really as much better?
They should make better Apps and better Engines for Games first before they make all these versions.
