[Q] Help with finding driver for adb

Two quick questions; any help is much appreciated. As a newbie I am unable to get adb to detect my device; running 'adb devices' always yields an empty list under Windows 7. Searching different threads lead me to the recommendation to uninstall the mass storage device driver with USBdeview and then reinstall with the android usb driver (which is said to be under tools in the SDK); however, I can't find the driver file anywhere., nor is there an USB available package in the SDK. If someone could point me in the correct direction regarding how to run adb I'd be much appreciative; I have the SDK installed and the adb daemon appears to be running.
A quick second question is if I can get the device to be detected under adb, can mass storage driver and the android driver run simultaneously? Thanks again.

i downloaded "pda net " to my windows 7 64 bit pc when i was having the same usb issue, it then recognized my adb device(of course you have to uninstall the drivers that windows assigned to it first)... question 2 is yes!

You mentioned that you had to first uninstall the drivers that Windows assigned to it first.
Would you please share how you went about doing that? I've been stuck on this part (adb not recognizing my device) for quite a while now and can't seem to get past it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I tried each one but only the pad net worked. Regarding the second reply, there was no usb_driver folder in my Android SDK folder. I downloaded the inf file anyway but when I pointed to it during installation it gave me a 'file not found' error although it recognized the driver. PDA net worked fine. The adb wireless widget connected to my PC but the list of devices remained blank.
Thanks again for l the suggestions; perhaps as I become more knowledgeable I'll appreciate why the first and third suggestions didn't work, but I really appreciate your willingness to help.

The reason you had no usb driver folder is because the android sdk was not fully setup. You need to run the sdk setup file in the android sdk folder first and download the rest of it. There are a bunch of different packages available. Follow the prompts.
To connect by wifi you need to use one of the adb wifi widgets on your tablet. When it is ready it should give you an address to connect to.
Then on your pc from a command line change the directory to your tools folder in the android sdk. Then type adb connect "address from adb wifi widget" and hit enter. Should then connect.

I have seen the same thing with the locations. I just copied the files in the platform-tools folder to the tools folder. Send me a pm with your email and i will send my USB folder if you want.

Hi. I 'figured' it out (if it could be called that). rather than click on 'update all' in SDK manager, I selected Android SDK tools, then clicked 'update all' which gave me a series of archives options, one of which included the USB package. This was very non-intuitive but worked.

[Q] assiatance with adb please any one

hi guys im getting anoyed with my pc and phone now ive followed so meany tutorial etc on how to install adb but still not getting any where so far i have done
1. downloaded sdk from code.google.com
2. extracted to c:/android-sdk-windows
3.installed htc wildfire drivers
4.created a path on enviromentable variuble
5.ive loaded the skd.exe
6. ran cmd and ran adb and adb devices but my pc will not reconise this command any adice please thanks
ps ive also tryed using qtaADB it connect to the phone but dnt show any thing frustrated now lol thanks daddyspud

First download adb for windows from " http://developer.android.com/sdk/ ".
then u will get a file named " android-sdk_r08-windows ".rename it as "Android SDK" after extracting.
download proper driver for your phone and install them .now move "Android SDK" to root of hard drive that is to c\Android SDK...
now update the adb using SDK manager that is inside Android SDK.all packeges even usb drivers.
connect the phone via usb and windows should recognize it as android phone .
now take "cmd".command prompt and type the following code .
cd\
cd Android SDK\tools\
adb devices
Now Adb is set if it shows your phone code ..

I had a hardtime making my computer recognize my wildfire, I had to manipulate the driver to make it find it. just google it and you shall find .. if thats the problem ..

They changed the location of the adb.exe file with the new SDK release using the example given would be :-
cd\
cd Android SDK\platform-tools\
easier in my opinion to add to path in windows
c:\android sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe
make sure u add java.exe to path aswell

Well what do you want to do with adb?

run the sdk but i get errors when i start it "error 2" cant find file.
Failed to get the adb version.
Edit - Never mind i have sorted it.

adb.exe is a program that runs on your windows pc, and is a part of the android software developer kit, sdk, distributed for free. adb, android data bridge, lets us transfer files and execute commands between your phone and pc.

I get the typical 'time out' error when I try to go to both: code.google.com/android/download.htm and developer.android.com/sdk in 99.9% of the time you get these errors, it means the site is blocked.
any suggestions for mirror sites....I haven't been able to find one.

Yes, that is exactly correct. It is a very cool, very smart method for us non-coders to unlock our tabs.
Make sure the first command you execute is "adb devices" to verify your connection and drivers. Copy everything from Roto's post. then right click in the command window, and select Paste from the pop up menu. Wait a minute ... done!

I googled "android sdk" and came up with a few links. Here is a promising one:

Choose the most recent. Also you will need drivers for your pc if you don't use windows 7. Again, google or search this galaxy tab forum.

Once you have followed all the steps explained in here to set it up,
whenever you want to "send a command" over to your GT, you ...
1) first run "cmd" on your Windows device
2) and when the cmd windows pops up enter:
cd\
cd AndroidSDK\tools\
adb devices
(to check if your device really is listed)
.. and then, run the actual command

developer.android.....is blocked. I googled untill 2 in the night and found a few local stored outdated version of SDK. One of them actually wanted to update itself, so I think I'm ok now

Drivers for pc, and putting adb.exe and any file you want to send to the tab in tools directory are the two keys for success

ADB/SDK?!?!?!

ok, just got a new laptop because the old one died and im trying to get adb working on it...i spend multiple hours trying to get it to work, can someone please point me to a guide that works with windows 7 ultimate...i have followed many and then go to command prompt and type adb and it basically says that it doesnt recognize the command...sorry for the noob question, i had it before, i tried multiple guides and im still adb-less

Lets start off with a simple question: do you have the sdk installed?
If you wish to use ADB first you have to run it from the directory that it is via the command prompt (start -> run -> type cmd). The easiest way to get it to work by just typing adb at the command prompt it by putting adb.exe in c:\windows.
Sorry if anything is slightly off, I use the Linux version of ADB.

When I rooted mine a few days ago, I had spent the night before trying to do it on Windows. Two computers, and none of the files that were supposed to exist did, even thought I had followed the directions up to that point.
Oddly enough, the Linux/Mac tutorial on the forums here works incredibly well and is incredibly easy. If you can use Linux (even a LiveCD or USB drive install) that is probably going to be the easiest method.

Watch the YouTube video or do the step by step method. You do need to download Android SDK and install an USB driver as well. Took maybe 15 minutes all together

Once you get to the point to make the .android folder in your users folder (if you dont have sdk installed), you have to use the command prompt (cmd) or else you will get the "You mus type a file name" error. The command is " mkdir .android ". just make sure you do it in the proper directory (cmd should show C:\Users\*yourusername*)

I just did it following this guys video. Quality is great and so are the instructions.

I'll second this. It's extremely simple and straight forward. Much simpler than the Windows method if you're at all comfortable with the command line. And as the OP said you don't even need Linux installed you can use a live CD.

This is what I had to do basically.
I created a folder android, and wouldnt let me name it .android
So in command prompt i renamed it, then I put an empty txt file, renamed it to the necessary ini, pasted that line they tell you and it worked first try.
