Double Caps When Typing (like THis) - Fascinate General

Ever since that update about a month ago my phone has been typing double caps before defaulting to the lower case. For example, DOuble. It actually stopped doing this in SMS...but does this when I type in fourms. Any work around or fix? Same problems with your SF?

I have seen issues like this for as long as I have had this phone. Have you found any way to reproduce it?
I suspect it's a combination of random lag and physically learning to type faster. Hopefully future keyboards will handle this a little better.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.

Same issue here. It is annoying.

Very annoying. I heard from a guy in another forum and he said that the problem eventually stopped

Have you played with the swype speed vs accuracy slider in settings, keyboard, swype settings?
I had the same problem after updating to DL09.
I adjusted the slider over more to accuracy and it seemed to go away.

I also have this bug. Mine will either do that or it will just skip the first letter all together, like this (Top instead of Stop.)
gots kaos on my ****s. ha ha

What keyboard do you see this bug with? I use Better Keyboard, and have never seen this problem.

I have been seeing that with swype after updating to DL09. I would recommend the solution that quarky42 suggested.

Changing the speed vs accuracy worked for me.

Yep worked for me too. I passed this along on DroidForums too, hope you don't mind.

Cool, swype does the job, but I don't use it all of the time. I downloaded the gingerbread keyboard from one of these forums and that works like a charm. Thanks to all who posted

Ive had similar issues on every version (including the one thats with the new froyo leak)
I love swype but the bugs are argh. the slider did fix the double caps but i cant type as fast now. My other problem is when i double tap to correct a word, it adds the corrected word either in the middle of the highlighted word or at the end of the entire message/textbox. (yes the word is fully highlighted) also i get the word suggestion popup even though i have it set to never.
I ended up switching to slideit recently
the last few versions of slideit have improved it a lot although it still doesn't "feel" as slick as swype, I cant find any glaring problems with it either.
on another note - op , my last name is schlitz :]

Best swype settings that work for you?

I'm still pretty knee to swype so I'm wondering what settings work for you with accuracy, consistency, and speed. I have a hard time getting want instead of wasn't.

Swype settings? I just use Swype the way it was preloaded onto the phone. I caught up super quick. I will never go to another phone without swype.
I've been bumping up the accuracy vs. speed slider and it seems to help as bit.

Typos, incorrect words, gibberish, and other nonsense brought to you courtesy of Swype.
Best thing that worked for me? ACTUALLY using their tutorial. Totally helped, and I've been loving Swype ever since. Amazing.
i use stock settings (except i turned off audio feedback cause it was annoying). i went through the tutorial. but the thing that helped me most getting used to swype was using it after a couple beers (not drunk, but just a little buzzed). it helped me try to go faster and see the how accurate you have to be while not trying to over think it. now swype is like second nature. once i got swype on my g1 i pretty much completely quit using the hard keyboard and haven't looked back since.
also, knowing how to use the correction feature is nice. like if it brings up the selection, and the word you want is the first choice, you can just start typing the next word and that one is automatically chosen. and after about a week or two you should have most of the words not in the swype dictionary added in which makes it quicker and easier.
I'm using stock settings also. It has just worked really well right out of the box. My iPhone buddies at work are soooo jealous.
What helped me the most was the tips and tricks short videos on the swype website. I highly recommend watching them. I learned a lot of good tricks there:

Thanks man, I got it down pretty fast, but I have trouble getting some words every time, WANT, is one of them. I do the hopping thing and it seems to help.
I know the thread is a bit old but I think it's still relevant.. Here are what I consider to be the best swype settings. These are of course my own opinion but they work really well.

This is an older thread I made on this topic with what I consider the ideal settings:

I'd strongly encourage using the latest beta (not the stock swype). Night and day difference. The autocorrect feature SUCKS in my opinion.
EDIT, also.. put up what I consider a great guide on my blog:

Ironically, Tapatalk runs craptastic with this build and I've found the keyboard lags the most while using it to post here.
It does seem app specific. I'm at a love hate relationship with this build.. I'm teetering on going back to 2.1 or working through 2.2's issues.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I'm not have much problems but do get a checker affect when I open up the browser.

So for me even with all keyboards off and device keyboard settings off i still get some missing keys.
I believe I may have found the source to the problem though, as this problem seems to still happen even without any software keyboards. It must be in the os or driver, my issues are always with the keys that when long pressed bring up a menu choice of softkeys.
Mostly s,e, and l i notice it the most with. i.e. long press e, youll get; è é ê ë ę ě ē. If i try mupltiple eeeeeeeee presses i get this popup occosanionally as if i am long pressing and you can clearly see it misses some of the presses for e, also try mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm or ppppppppppppppppp i never have the lag issues with these as when long pressed they just repeat with not pause and popup.
I think the lag (loss of letters) is due to the OS interjection monitoring the length of keypress to determine if this prompt should be shown.
What would be great is if a developer could determine what controls this feature and strip it from the rom/kernel/driver whatever it is. I will never use this as it is only for non-english charachters anyway.
Hopefully the right person reads this and looks into it, as i feel this could be the source of our issue.

Oh wow weirdest thing... keyboard lag was still there for me when I first flashed the phone. But about 20 minutes ago I dropped my phone while in the shower (first time :O) and the keyboard got a little wet. Now my buttons don't feel "sticky" and I can type a million times faster without missing any letters. I'm so happy haha.

[Q] Keyboard Lagginess on display units

I just got home from Best Buy where I played with their Xoom for about 20 minutes. Anytime I tried to use the keyboard (in the browser or just doing the google search on the home page), the keyboard only registered like 1/5 keystrokes I made. The line "just testing out this new xoom" would come out as "j tesgo t ewom" or something like that. I watched as I was typing and it looked like the keys were lighting up. Is this just a bad display unit or does the keyboard really suck this bad?
Let me put it this way, I am typing this on my xoom almost as fast as I can type on a computer. It does get laggy in the browser on more complex sites, but it shouldn't lead to that much mispelling. The keyboard is at least as good as the ipad in terms of speed.

Best Buy has some crappy units on display for some reason. ANGRY BIRDS lagged when I used the one at Best Buy.

The xda forum makes the browser lag like crazy, probably because of all the elements that are on the page at once. Use the xda app instead.
Not sure, but as far as my personal experience goes, every single floor unit of any device I've tried is always slower than the real thing. With the amount of abuse that the devices get, and in the case of Android the people messing with things that they don't know the reason for make everything laggy.
I remember using the Galaxy Tab at a T-mobile kiosk and having it run pretty smooth, then trying one in a Sprint store than absolutely lagged out and crashed several times. It really depends what people have been doing to them.
Let me also +1 the Xoom soft-keyboard- between the responsiveness and accuracy of the touchscreen, the size of the keys, and the medium autocorrect setting, what used to be a chore typing on soft keyboards has now made sending E-mails FAR easier (which my client certainly appreciates, as now I respond to E-mails coming thru in late at night or early AM much faster ).
I found that when I went to bestbuy the display unit was terrible because everyone installed apps and put a ton of widgets on the desktop. When I actually got my own xoom it was perfect and never had any issue browsing or using the keyboard. So I guess the point I am trying to make is that its more what people put on it then the unit itself and when you have tons of people messing with it a lot of things get screwed up.

The unit at the best buy I was at didn't have a google account tied to the device. You couldn't use the market, gmail or any google application. So nobody put extra apps or widgets on there. Maybe they messed with the settings? All I know is the keyboard was horrible. It would enter a couple letters, miss a couple letters. Half way through typing something it would auto-close the keyboard. Something must have been messed up, I guess. Otherwise I assume everybody would be complaining, which they aren't. I just wish I could have tested the device with the keyboard working correctly so I knew what to actual expect since I'm still on the fence between this and the ipad 2.
Sorry but its not the store unit's fault. This is something ive noticed and subsequently been annoyed with using my Xoom. Usually its while im using the keyboard in the browser window. It just cant keep up and misses keystrokes. It wouldnt be so bad if the keystrokes were just behind, but it lags enough where it doesnt even register some keystrokes. but like i said this is mainly in the browser. Plus for the person who mention Angry birds, i noticed this myself. Which is something thats alway bothered me about Non-Apple(dont shoot me im not a fanboy) hardware/software. If there was one thing i never experienced on my iphone/ipad it was subsequent slowdown while using apps and such. Everything was as quick the first time as it was the last time. Slowdown to me is a major nusiance becuase it seems to happen in intervals as apposed to consistantly. i hate that. Sometimes AB is smooth as silk other times its choppy, but i never know why or when.
I have noticed the lag too. Not on all sites but some especially XDA.I have seen many others complain about the same thing in other posts. Obviously an issue that needs to be corrected by Google in an update.
I have yet to see any lag playing Angry Birds.

Interesting since the unit I messed with had a ton of stuff. The only time I have noticed some keyboard lag occasionally was in the web browser when on some intensive websites but other than that seems to be fine. As a note you could try out a different keyboard on it if they actually have a Google account such as swift key and see if that helps. Also id see if you can go to another store such as Verizon and test it out there since normally it works well without lag for me.
That is very strange, I played with my new xoom and it was quick on all apps except for SBM but it makes sense since its not optimized yet but as far as browser and keyboard I haven't experienced any lag yet. Side note Google body was very underwhelming.... more for children then Med students or anything past high school.

I get no lag but I use voice to text a lot and that works great
I thought that I was the only one that noticed a little lag on the keyboard..... nothing I can't handle or that stopped me from buying the Xoom

My problems with the keyboard are how it freezes up during a keystroke and the only way to stop it is to turn the Xoom all the way off. It can be a bit laggy, but it seems to depend more on the app being used vs the keyboard its self.

Ya it probably depends on if the app is optimized yet for honeycomb so the keyboard lag issue should be fixed when everything becomes more compatible.

XDA Forums are much better on 3.1

With the changes to WebView and 3.1's updated CSS support, I believe it's corrected many of the issues with XDA's forums on the Xoom.
I loaded it up and it's running 10x better. I can finally scroll smoothly through the forums without having to resort to the 'XDA Classic' theme.
This is great
But if on the verizon network, the forums suck up data quick with advertisements and peoples unnecissary footers.

Browser rendering in general is much improved.
The vBulletin typing on sites like XDA is still unbearably laggy. There's a 2 second delay between key press and the letter appearing.

Glad I have seen this thx, thought my xoom was laggy, but if iit is ononly xda.......happy days.Except the whole double lletter ttyping tthing.... is there a fix for that?
i was gonna say the opposite really. Browsing these forums is unbeleivably laggy and typing messages is horrendous.
I was thinking maybe that was an issue with using the us software on my xoom, but I guess not.
Using Opera MINI on problem forums , seems to solve the input lag.
Hopefully the stock browser someday will work better.
browser is ok with the forums but the app always fc's when i login then try to open a thread
deleting text in a reply box is a nightmare
My experiences are similar. The text inputs are terrible... but with 3.1, the forum page rendering is much faster.
by the way, is it just me or it is common issue that my xda app downloaded from the Market ALWAYS fc if I logged in then next time I open it, I am guest in that app again...
In that way it successfully blocked every my effort to log in or save a favourite forum in my xoom through that app...
Any fix to this?
Thanks!

At the bottom of the forums switch the view to XDA Classic. It isn't laggy at all for me after doing this.
I'm using the TDR 3.1 rooted kernel and the keyboard is fine. I experienced the lag on the BRD 3.1 rooted kernel. The TDR supports over-clocking and I just flipped that on, works great. I also use the SlideIT soft keyboard which is working nicely. I was having problems with long posts on phpbb forums before 3.1 which is no longer a problem, yay. Things are looking up.

Swype - I used to love you

Hi! Is it just me or has swype become almost unuseable since a few ROMs back when it went from popping a box up to horizontal suggestions above the keyboard.
I'm not talking about the aesthetics, it seems as though the dictionary selection, accuracy and changing of half typed and corrected words is just terrible.
Prior to the update I used to breeze through, now I'm lucky to swype in a few words without an epic correction struggle against its will to correct and change.
Swype, once a selling point and a joy to use now just plain sucks for me, and the thought of using it turns me off productive tasks.
Just me? Bad settings? I look forward to peoples input. I can't exactly remember when the change occurred, it was when it went horizontal instead of pop up.

I don't intend to hijack, but I couldn't have an android phone without Swiftkey X on it... only complaint is that I have to use the gmail app for my email instead of the Samsung email one because it is very buggy on the Samsung one....
Same here. Old swype was more accurate.
I did two things:
1) Remove swype that comes with the rom, install the beta from swype.com (its newer)
2) Disable autocorrect
I absolutely love the new one. Much better than before and just as accurate.
The new Swype rocks! Especially with the horizontal word choice window. I can't even consider going back to 2.7. No problems with accuracy whatsoever with the new version on my phone.
It's not just me! Latest Cognition 1.50 just released and Swype has been reverted to 2.x, Designgears said the following:
"I think the new versions suck too, it is no even usable anymore, I can type my message 3x faster with the stock samsung keyboard."

Quit the bull - if you didn't mean to hijack, why are you doing it? Is this an accidental hijack? Jerk.
On topic - never been a huge Swype fan, but been playing with it a bit this weekend - and I concur with those that say the new version is hopeless.
Still a noob with it, but my accuracy was much, much better on the old version.
Not sure I'll stay with Swype anyway - old dog, new tricks....
Make sure you check your Swype accuracy settings. I put mine closer towards the error tolerance end now. Still works fine.

I don't like it that much, have to swipe twice/thrice for a simple word like 'or'. I used T9 Trace on my S8500 before and it never had any problem, even if I swiped on some wrong letters it ultimately gave me the right word.
I am on 2.72 version, at default setting.
Regards.
Yep same here. Spent more time struggling with auto-correction than actually swyping.
I use TouchPal's keyboard now. Surprisingly accurate even when you mash the wrong buttons, high degree of customisability (you can even use the classic numpad keyboard), and they will also be implementing the swyping functionality in the next major release (hopefully more usable than the current version of Swype).
I've found, disabling auto correction helps a million.

I absolutely agree with every word you said. Please if someone can tell me a way of downgrading to an older version, i will be ever grateful. Its terrible now!!
from my perspective.. swype 3 is better than swype 2 .. well the horizontal word suggestions eats up a line, but in exchange it's easier to scroll down (or right ) for the words.. it's true that it's not perfect when selecting words.. but overall.. it's still the best keyboard...

Swype 3 beta says you can't install it on a phone that was shipped with swype pre installed. Anyway to get the new 3 beta of swype on official firmware?
Is there any way to downgrade though?
