[Q]using stock apps in custom roms

Here's what i did
i wanted the stock gallery 3d app so badly so i took it from stock jpm (both the odex and apk)
then i placed them both in the system/app/ folder
strange ..didn't work.. (didn't show in app drawer at all..)
so i installed gallery 3d from market and then replaced that apk with the stock gallery apk
even strange.. when i opened the gallery app, i got the old gallery app not the stock app
for those who are wondering.. stock gallery app is flawless and has blue highlighting while the one in the market has yellow highlighting and appears patched while scrolling and is damn slow..
question is.. how do i install stock apps in custom roms??

I had the same problem but then with touchwiz and on a stock rom:
I wanted to enable landscape mode in touchwiz and for some kinda reason I deleted the touchwiz30launcher.apk and the odex file... I tried to place it again but with no succes... For another reason my phone was captured into a bootloop so I flashed the firmware again and everything works fine. I would also like to know how you get that stock apps working if they weren't on your phone after flashing...

ok atleast tell me how to deodex apps..
is it enough to move the /data/dalvik-cache/classes.dex into the corresponding apk??

[Q] Remove 3D gallery and install 2D gallery?

I am trying to install the 2D gallery on a rom that has the 3D gallery, but when I try to install it via ADB I get this error: "install_failed_shared_user_incompatible" The rom is Froyo AOSP. Can anyone help me out?

Try remounting system rw and delete /system/app/gallery3d.apk then copy the 2d gallery to /system/app.

Use QuickPick is a lot better and its free

But quick shows teh GIF files as Jpeg..
I mean... No animations support..

Porting??

So I am running synergy godmode on my EVO 4g. I flashed One of the sense 3.5 ROMs to try it out though. I like several aspects of the sense 3.5, but I also really like the speed that the synergy gives me.
So how would I go about porting some stuff from sense 3.5 to synergy? Specificly I would like to take the music app and move it to synergy. How do I do this?

I know how to replace a system app, it is just a matter of figuring out how to get the APk for the music player from the 3.5 ROM. Is it possible to go to root exporer and system/app them copy the music player and paste it into the sd card, flash back to my other rom, then put that APk into the system apps, change the permissions, and then reboot? Would that do it?

download Titanium backup and backup all your apps and then load up whichever new rom you want and go back into Titanium backup and restore that app and see if it works...

I tried that. For some reason the apps just don't want to install. Odd. I guess I'll just wait until a more stable rom with sense 3.5 to come out and I'll just use that

Music on CM9 doesnt work

When I adb install the new cm9 music after installjng cm9 by epsylon3 it always force closes and doesnt work at all. What do I do for it. I also reinstalled cm9 but no advantage. Please help.

Try the player attached in this post.
Installation instructions:
1. Use file manager and copy /system/app/Music.apk to somewhere on your sdcard.
2. copy the new Music.apk that you obtained from the above link to /system/app/
3. reboot or install the apk.
4. go to "Manage apps", select the music app and clear data and cache.
Then try launching the new Music. It should be in your app drawer.
This is just a suggestion. It worked for. Though I had no FC's with the old music app.

Hey thanks man did exactly what you said. No force closes so far. But I am getting the force closes for the new miuiV4 music app for ics. So is it the fault in the app itself ?

hey im really new into this i just want to know somthing about the launchers and deh gallery....
i just rooted my dhd and flashed icecoldsandwitch on it...
didnt found any bugs jet working very well...
but i want to get rid of the 3 launchers and the standard gallery... is there a way i can repleace the gallery with quickpic and the launchers with launcherpro??? so i can get rid of em ...
would be nice if smb could help me...

There are several apps out there that allow u to uninstall system apps. I use Link2SD myself. With it u can uninstall any syestem app or if don't want to uninstall it u can just freeze it. It also has an option to convert 3rd party apps to system apps so u could convert QuickPik to system/app if u wanted. And u could use it to get rid of or freeze all those launchers too. I believe Titanium Backup can do all of that too. Or an app call Root Uninstaller. Just look on the Play Store & u'll see several but i recommend Link2SD personally. Good luck

Open the ROM zip file in 7-zip or WinRAR, Delete the Apex, Nova, and Trebuchet Launcher apks from /system/app and put in the launcher you want. Preferably keep Trebuchet (Launcher2.apk) along with the launcher you want. So in case it doesn't work, there's a launcher for your phone to use to rather than pull out the battery and re-flash ROM. Same with gallery. Delete Gallery2.apk and put QuickPic apk in /system/app. Finally flash ROM. No need to wipe anything, the IceColdSandwich updater script formats /system, /cache and dalvik-cache.

U cn uninstal the launcher . .
Its given in the ics thread. .
