Currently i have a non-carrier branded HTC Legend. On the HTC Australia website there is 'ROM Upgrade for HTC Legend (Vodafone)'. Will this spike my phone with Vodafone non-sense? Am i better off to root my phone with a custom ROM? Will both ROM upgrades give me equal performance?
Thank you.

No, since you have an unbranded Legend you'll get the WWE update (World Wide English), which is completely unbranded.
BlaY0's ROM is brilliant, i would consider rooting and trying it out.. Plus you have all the benefits of Overclocking, A2SD and/or Data2Ext!
Hope this helps!

Vodafone AU haven't added any crap in the froyo RUU except changing the homepage. If you dont wanna root, then Do update according to instructions given on htc australia website. But rooting and using a custom rom will of course give even better performance.

The HTC website says that Rom update is not suitable for my phone.....Why Not? I am currently on ROM 1.43.110.2 UK based phone on the T-Mobile Network. I thought that the latest ROM was 1.48 or am I wrong?
proably because it is branded by t-mobile, it is only suitable for unbranded phones, you will need to use the goldcard method if you wish to update your rom

Could you explain the Goldcard method to me and why wouldn't branded phones want latest ROM updates?
branded phones need updates from the carrier.
unbranded (as they have no carrier afflilation) gets theirs direct from the manufacturer (HTC)
This link should help give you more of an idea what you will need to do. Haven't done it myself. Still waiting for the new ROM to be made official on the UK HTC site(well waiting and learning only had it 4 days). They haven't given it to us yet.

Yes there is... I suggest you install the rooted official HTC Sense UI.. it worked for me, and you don't have to wait until Proximus awakes from hibernation.
You can find it here, together with the installation instructions.
You'll need to upgrade your radio as well.
After this, you can experiment with flashing customized roms, like CursorDroid's CursorSense or GyD's
If stuck, PM me and I'll guide you.
Goodluck!

Yep. Feel free to browse over the Android Dev threads here.
Just be mindful of your current SPL and radio so as not brick your Magic.
Peace!
is this ROM update safe?
HTC Magic Android 2.0 Sense.html.zip (340 Bytes, 40 views). what exactly will this update do to my phone? I want to know before I install it.

the attached zip won't do anything.. it isn't even a rom or an update.
the first post does include a RapidShare link to the official HTC RUU update, which will install HTC Sense UI on your Magic 32A, together with a perfected SPL (which disables flashing custom roms).
my advice is to go into the Sapphire Dev forums and look for a rooted version of this update (GyD's rom or CursorSense rom or the Stock HTC Sense Rooted rom).
goodluck!
Hey everyone!!
Today I got my HD2
I saw a ROM update on the HTC site. It was posted on 02-02-2010.
When I enter my serial number it says the update is not for me (I'm sure I filled in the correct one).
Is this because my phone is from Vodafone (splash screen en shutdown screen show Vodafone logo)?
Is it possible to install this official ROM? (I don't mind to lose the Vodafone screens) How could I do this.
I want to keep my phone in dutch.
Let me know, I know you could help me!!!
has your phone already got an up to date rom? you can download official rom's in the leo rom development forum

Hi, yes, you are correct. You should get your rom upgrades from Vodafone.
However we all know how bad carriers are at releasing upgrades, so consider hspl2 and then you can flash the rom of your choice. (official or not)
But isn't it possible to get an official HTC rom?
At this moment I prefer to have an official rom on my new phone.
For an official Vodafone ROM update, ask them. The ROM on the HTC site is also official. Not for your phone tho.

no because your handset is branded to vodafone, the offical updates are for non branded phones
I had a same problem!
Just bought an HTC HD2, in hungary, but it has a "hungarian rom 1.48.479.1" on it, with SPL 1.42.0000
But, i cant upgrade any roms, my PN number last 3 number is 042, so this htc hd2 is came from a german vodafone. (htc . com says, no upgarde for this pdaphone yet)
Still have 2 years of warranty.
So is it possible, to get an 1.66 official rom on it, with hspl2? and if i need my warranty, can i "un/install" to 1.42 SPL to not lose my warranty? If is it possible, i will use hspl2 if i need my warranty, and i will use that german 1.66 rom that just came out (vodafone . de)
Answer pls, and yea, i know my english is sucks.

Here is the latest ROM for HD7 Telstra.
You can download it from here
Hi, Thanks for this download. Does this mean that the HD7 is already released by Telstra? I can't find it anywhere and the Telstra rep. has no idea.

This is a test rom, they may not be selling hd7 yet; but its a sign that they are working on it
Since this is a test ROM for the HTC HD7 on the Telstra network in Australia. And when the HD7 was officially released it already had a NoDo ROM on it, if i flash to this ROM then dev-unlock it, will the phone be able to pull down the Feb & March updates?
Since this is from Telstra i'd like to use it to downgrade, then dev-unlock my device.
I'm currently running the 3.14.405.2 WWE ROM on my unlocked/unbranded retail HD2 on the T-Mobile network, but HTC have made available a new T-Mobile (UK) ROM 3.14.110.1. What is the difference between that ROM and my existing WWE ROM? Is there any point in me flashing with the T-Mobile ROM, or would that be a retrograde step?
Thanks.
if you want exactly the same rom that you already have, but with t mobile branding, and probably tmobile proxy settings making the web worse, go for it!
If a nice t mobile splashscreen isn't what you are after, dont bother.
Translation - the roms are the same, just the t mo one has t mo branding.

T-mobile and 02 branded phones take an age for updates to become available. The HTC 3.14 ROM has been available since Oct, and 02/T-Mo have only just released it. And I'm certain there has been at least one HTC update not released by 02. The branded phone ROMS prevent you from flashing HTC ROMs without HSPL, I've just sent my 02 branded to the shop and they sent it back brand free but with the Cotulla HSPL. Not a massive turn-off if you don't mind flashing and installing HSPL, but not ideal if you just want to use your phone.
Personally, I don't mind going through all the HSPL install and ROM flashing, so I'd go for WP7!!!
