use RUU rom.zip to load deodex system.img - EVO Shift 4G General

never owned an android HTC device, but would it work to pack the deodexed system files into a system.img and flash it through the RUU? just until we get working recovery that is. and would it be worth it to pack the hboot into the rom.zip and have an RUU that has a deodexed system with an s-off hboot?

That won't work as you can't sign it (no one has the HTC keys to do so)

Downgrade hboot to eng hboot

I can't seem to find the guide for this. I know it can be done....or am I crazy. I rooted a friends phone this weekend. Tried to use unrevoked but it wouldnt work until I down graded froyo. He's rooted now. But still want to downgrade his hboot. And for the life of me I can't find the guide.

I think maybe this is what you want. It installs the eng hboot and amon ra recovery in one shot. The updated file with ra 1.8 is in post 18 in that thread. There's a guide in the first post. The only thing I can think to add is that you'll want to have a rom on the sd card ready to go. The reason being, it might boot loop after the install (mine did) and the only way I know to get out of it is to flash a new rom (or reflash the current one).
I can't post the link or i would just do that.
In the EVO 4G Android Development section, the post you want is called 'ENG bootloader (0.76 needed for CM6) extended fastboot commands'

Zikronix, I have just downgraded my HBOOT from .97 to 0.76.2000. (In fact done this a couple times both from 2.02 and .97). In case you still need this.. below are the steps.
1. Got my replacement EVO today (hboot .97, 3.29.651 build, 1.71 PRI)
2. Rooted it with this method using default (clockworkmod recovery)
3. Rebooted and flashed Amon_ra recovery (optional.. my preference)
4. Copied the correct Eng hboot file (renamed as PC36IMG.zip) to my sdcard, rebooted to bootloader, Eng hboot zip was flashed, I accepted update, done. Rebooted into recovery.
5. Flashed my favorite root ROM (this is necessary bcos the change on hboot does something funky to your existing rom, so you can only reboot into bootloader ... not sure why, some dev should be able to explain more)
6. Done.

[Q] How to get stock recovery back for rooted wildfire ?

Hello mates,
I have a rooted wildfire with Wildpuzzle ROM v2.2. My recovery image is the Clockwork Recovery.
I want to load the Stock Froyo, now that app2SD is possible without root.
(App2sd is the only reason rooted).
I tried flashing the RUUxxxxx.exe file ,but got the error cannot upgrade your phone.
I found that signing key of the custom recovery is the causing the problem and that I have to get the Stock Recovery. And only then I will be able to run the RUUxxxx.exe file for Stock Froyo 2.2.
Can anyone tell me how I can do it ?
It will be of great help if any one can share an original "recovery.img" .
Also I am having trouble with fastboot becuase I have S-ON in bootloader.
Make a gold card. Flash stock RUU. Flash 2.2 RUU. Done! Look up a guide of making goldcard on xda or modaco.

So you dont need the root anymore?
Then you should download from shipped-roms.com a WWE that is eclair run the .exe on ur pc and when its done go to (in ur phone) to the updates section and OTA upgrade to non-rooted official froyo!
(Htc Buzz:wildfire WWE is under the windows mobile section for some reason xD)

id say hit the irc for a faster response from someone who knows and ask them if you can use newkidds 1 zip to get your old hboot back, but keep in mind newkidd now has like 3 ruu files the old one with the .93 hboot and one with the .98 hboot and one with none I think

flashed .exe
I flashed the .exe so i dont have access to clockwork recovery any more, To flash zip files. Probably a big mistake until a perm root solution is found.

You won't be flashing an exe with the ruu program on your computer, it should just return you to 100% old stock

I just need to find one that will revert me back to stock with .93 hboot so i can start over from scratch. The v1 version will not allow this due to being the wrong hboot when it does itks check...

[Q] How to Unroot and having stock hboot without RUU method?

I've installed the revolutionary for the S-off, rooted and have a Nandroid backup thanks to the excellent guide:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
Since somebody said the RUU rom is somehow different from the stock rom, so if I flashed a custom rom, the only way for me to get into the stock rom is flashing the backup in Nandroid.
After that, I can flash the fastboot into S-on Hboot 1.01.0001 thanks to this guide:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160251.
But it is still not the stock Hboot 1.01.0002(only flashing RUU can do so). Does any method allows me to flash the Hboot into 1.01.0002 version and also unroot the rooted-Nandroid-backup, so my phone can be completely restored? Thank you so much!
An RUU is necessary to remove the Clockworkmod Recovery (Custom Recovery which allows you to flash stuff). That is the only reason why an RUU is needed to back to a completely stock state.
You can replace the HBoot file in that 2nd guide using any HBoot. So, you can extract 1.01.0002 from a RUU/OTA you know carries it, and replace the file accordingly.
Replacing the Stock Recovery should be possible without an RUU - BUT, it will need someone to extract and verify it. Till that process is done, I guess its the only way to completely get back to Stock.
Or are there any method to upgrade the Hboot 1.01.0001 into 1.01.0002 by extract the boot.img from the RUU?

Oh...I forget the most important part (remove CWM), thank so much!!
Here's what I propose:
- Restore your Nandroid Backup of your Stock ROM. This will give you the Stock ROM.
- Extract the Recovery.img from an RUU. Flash this using flash_image or Fastboot. This will remove the Clockworkmod Recovery and get back the Stock Recovery
- Extract the HBoot 1.01.0002 .nb0 file from an RUU/OTA, and flash using the guide above. This will remove the AlphaRev HBoot and replace it with stock.
These 3 steps should help you get back to a completely stock system. WITHOUT touching an RUU.

Thx!
But the Nandroid backup require root permission, will the rooting permission be still exist after getting back to the stock ROM? how can I Unroot it?
Yes which is why in the 3 steps I posted, Nandroid Backup comes first. So once you restore that, then you have the stock ROM, But, you have Clockworkmod and Revolutionary HBoot.
To remove Clockworkmod, and get back the Stock Recovery, Extract the Stock Recovery.img from an RUU and follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974590
Now, you have your Stock ROM and a Stock Recovery, You just have to remove the Custom Revolutionary HBoot. Again, extract the HBoot 1.01.0002 .nb0 file from an RUU, and follow the same guide you already linked, to get back to S-ON.
Thus, you can revert back to Stock completely without running an RUU and losing your data,

Nandroid backup and nandroid restore will not require root permissions.
And your question depends on whether (or not) you have rooted and then made nandroid backup.
And if you have to unroot it, do it before flashing hboot. Because once s-on is made, it is bit difficult (nearly impossible on hboot 1.0x with stock recovery) to unroot. Use super one click or gingerbreak.apk to unroot .
[In short, unroot = removing su binary from /system/bin (or) /system/xbin ]

Alternative method to flash new radio.img

I was looking for an alternative method to flash a new radio on my HTC DHD, because I cannot connect my DHD anymore to the pc. It will only charge my phone. Even in the bootloader my pc doesn't recognize my phone. This is due a hardware problem that recently occured on my phone I think, but i still wanted to upgrade my radio with the newest version.
So I searched for an other method, instead of the fastboot one, but didn't found a lot of info. Only that I needed a flashable zip file with the name PD98IMG.zip. Normally you flash the whole phone with that file, but I only wanted to flash the radio.
Then I discovered that inside the PD98IMG.zip file the radio.img and the android-info.txt files are in it. So I decided to delete all the other files in the zipfile. I placed the edited PD98IMG.zip file on the root of my SD card and started my phone in the bootloader. Now the bootloader asked me to update and I did that. The update went fine and now my radio is up to date!!
I don't know if this method is save or not, and that you need S-OFF and ENG-OFF, but I have both so that wasn't a problem for me.
This method is very interesting
Thank you for having shared.
Totally safe.

You need only S-OFF (Signature OFF).
With s-off the bootloader doesn't control the signature of the zip file, so it flash it without problem.
I always flash radio with this method, and you can downgrade always without any procedure, just put PD98IMG.zip in the root of sd card and reboot in bootloader
is this method working if i have already ENG S-OFF ?
