Few days ago my touch screen died. I know many have reported it, but most of this thread don't have any answer how to repair it. Best answer they get is send it to HTC, but we cant all do that. My question is, if i replace my touch-screen will it work again, do i need anything else to replace? Plz need answer form someone who knows what he is talking about, I don't want to waste my money on something that cant be fixed.

From what I can read, it seems it's the digitizer and not the actual screen.
Have you tried flashing WinMo or an SD build back to see if it fixes it? It does for me.
Yea i read that thread and nope tried going back to stock and its still there. what i rly what to know is what is causing this, what part of the phone? It seems to be related to the end call button, since it gets worse when i press it hard. Maybe adjusting the hard buttons could help? Well i contacted HTC maybe they can give me a smart answer but i doubt it they sad to hard reset the phone, maybe they are just trolling me...
Contact your carrier. If it's still in warranty, they may replace the phone. Also if you pay your carrier monthly for an insurance policy, that may cover it as well. If not, but it covers accidental damage or theft or lost of the phone . . . .

I was using my phone today and all was working ok, till about 2:30 when I wanted to place a call, and nothing was working anymore.
Apart from the Circle wheel that works , the Call, End, Both Soft Keys, Ok,Windows, Comm Manager Buttons do not work. All of them just stopped working at once. ALL OF THEM.
I thought maybe it was too hot, I turned off the phone for 20 mins and still no go. I have never dropped my phone, not in water, nothing. Have had it for like 3 months now. Could this be software related? Please my phone is basically useless now, as I use the physical keyboards more than I do the touch screen.
Please Help me out
Desperate here please
please people I desperate here. Anyone ever experienced this? I have read most forums and there seems to be no option but to return the phone and get a new one, but I hav no insurance. I called HTC but they were closed. Please any input. I am lost here
htc wont repair or replace your phone. youll need to call ut starcomm and they will repair it for free. if you get mad enough you can even get them to send it back in a couple days. other than that i dont think their is anything that can be done about it. ive never heard of this happening before

Actually it seems to be a common problem with the Mogul, here is a thread that talks only about it
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/1179470/Mogul+buttons+stopped+working??t=anon
I was shocked myself that problems like this is out there and am not aware. I would have opted for another brand of phone, maybe Touch. Guess I am one of the unlucky ones. Hope everyone learns from me, coz there seems to be no solution ( yet) . Not even HTC.
Well...
This isn't a hardware problem...
It's definitely software... Somewhere...
Hard resets work (requiring pressing and holding of 2 soft buttons) and bootloader mode works (pressing and holding the camera button...)
While the OS is up (flashed a few roms), none of the buttons (other than power, scroll wheel, and D-pad) work at all.
So... hardware wise, the buttons work.
Anyone want to look further into this?
I just got my mogul off Ebay - it was stuck in bootloader mode...
Ran "ExitBL" and no go on the buttons...
What all does ExitBL do?
Anyone else having button problems run this in the past?
Have you tried flashing stock oem carrier rom to the phone to fill in missing registries?
send it back to the seller and get your money back.
Hi guys,
I searched the forum for this and didn't find any threads that had an answer so i thought I'd ask for your help. This morning for no apparent reason the touchscreen on my HD2 (stock ROM) stopped responding, everything else is working fine but the screen is just not registering anything.
I tried flashing a couple of custom ROMs but that didn't do the trick, it's now been a whole day where I can't use my phone. I've had this happen to me once before but after a few hours it started working again (also for no reason). This time though it doesn't seem to be fixing itself.
Anyone has any suggestions, hints or tips before I send it back for repair?
all i can say is to make sure it is flashed with stock rom and no custom spl is present when you send it back!
Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely do so. To be honest I was hoping there is a fix that doesn't involve a repair since i bought the phone on craigslist (yeah I know silly me) and there is no warranty. So I'm guessing HTC will hammer me on the price.
you may be able to find a replacement digitiser as it sounds as if that is what is faulty on your device.
Im not sure if anyone has succesfully replaced a digitiser on an hd2 just yet though.
there are a few posts around where people have tried to do the entire screen array, lcd included but i dont know if they were succesful.
would be great to find a service manual for the leo
i just had a thought aswell... if you have no warranty then you may aswell save flashing the device back to stock... you will be charged for repair anyway!
This problem has been discussed several times on XDA. You should search for "touchscreen" or "touch screen" to see the various problems people have had. There doesn't appear to be much you can do about your particular problem.
My HD2 had the same problem when it got hot for any reason (while charging or if it was a hot day). Putting it in the fridge to cool it down helped. You can try that if you like...
Seriously - if you can repeat the problem on the phone, send it back for replacement. The phone is no good to you like that.
Thanks for all the replies, it looks like I will have to send it in... sigh... Let's see how much HTC will charge me.
By the way I tried the fridge thing after reading about it on this forum. Didn't work.
[ABANDONED] My worries have been aliviated by the people posting here that T-Mobile did not check for an unlocked bootloader. That's enough for me to close the issue. If someone does need to find the answer to this question, feel free to pursue it otherwise I consider this [CLOSED]
-----edit above-----
I've already searched for this EXTENSIVELY and need more help. I have a similar problem to this thread (which wasn't resolved), but didn't want to revive a dead thread from Dec '10 to ask this.
First and most important question is: WILL I NEED TO DO THIS?> Will T-Mobile check for the unlocked bootloader on a broken-screen phone and will they notice my MIUI rom? (I'm REALLY worried about this because rooting my phone does void the warranty, but honestly I didn't break it. The screen just stopped working. Really worried = the search for a solution).
Is HTC warranty a better option? (I'm actually the second owner and the original owner is going to try to do the replacement)
I've realized that I can use Android Screencast to see what the phone is showing, and touch input still works on my phone (though Android Screencast isn't letting me use my computer mouse/keyboard to use my phone). This is only available on a rom/backup with USB debugging enabled, and shows CWM Recovery (using the latest version).
Can someone please help me go through all the steps needed to restore everything to stock? I am cursed by this issue and realize that someone would need to take over an hour to figure all this out.
>>I know I'm asking for a lot, but this is a great community to be involved in and I've searched all over for help before posting.<<

P.S. I've also looked at [Guide] Remove permanent root, and I need to know what extra steps I will need to know with a broken screen. CWM 3.0+ presents a problem for stock rom, and I need one with USB debugging enabled already.
Also, fyi I used the Rage/Gfree latest version available as of Jan 24 (when I rooted). I did not flash the Engineering HBoot, which would probably help.
What i found was they dont care about the software. confirmed twice. Apparently it is a known defect in the phone that the screen stops working, they will admit it now. We have done 2 warranty replacements and the first one at the time of the post, they tried to charge me for breaking the screen (we did a better business bur Complaint) and got refunded. The second time they didnt even question it and we werent even charged.
So no they dont care, dont worry about it.
I just so happen to have the exact problem as you, i stepped on my phone leavng the screen internally broken put the touch screen still worked. I was running CM7 and i called them and just sent it in with no problems. there not there to look at the software and are not going to take the time to replace screens on all the phones they get in first to see if there rooted or not. If you cant tell its rooted by looking at the screen (i mean it is broken) then theres no way they will. Just send it in and you'll get it in about weeks time
I had this problem and submitted it to warrenty, anyway. They asked me three questions, is the screen cracked. Is there any external damage, and any water damage. All were no's, so they replaced the phone without ever checking for root.
Thanks for all the responses. All three of you have reassured me to the point that I'm not going to worry about it either. While I appreciate that T-Mobile is not going to charge me for rooting my device (which I should be able to do), I am annoyed that as a secondary owner I do not get warranty support and need to have the original owner take care of it.

I see a lot of solutions, but nobody seems to have told you to boot up your phone using volume down, which gets you directly into the bootloader, from where you can flash the Winmo 6.5 ROM.
Did you try that?
Otherwise there are numerous ways of trashing it i guess... mess around with electrical wiring and make sure the mainboard has a power spike or something... then you're sure nobody will be able to do something with it
Of course I tried it. The problem is that for some reason I can't get into bootloader, and I tried to do that 100 times with all different methods with no luck. I only can get into MAGLDR. I wrote all this in my first message in that threat
Well, from what i can understand after looking at your original post, you cannot enter the tri-color bootloader? Well, have you tried a hard reset? And, when you mentioned liquid entered your phone, you should also check the water indicator stickers on your phone and battery to see if they are pick or red. Else, they will not bother replacing or repairing it. Have you also tried resetting Android from MAGLDR? Back to your request, if you cannot enter the bootloader and unable to flash anything, the easiest ways to brick(any maybe recover) your phone are all void. The best way to physically damage your phone might be to short circuit it. Alternatively, if you just do not want them to know that you have flashed MAGLDR, you should damage the ribbon cable for the LCD. You have to unscrew the phone for this, but do gently remove the warranty and water indicator stickers before this. Please do explore all avenues like a hard reset and Android reset

Yes, I cannot enter bootloader and yes I tried hard reset (with volume up and down keys) with no luck. I checked my indicator stickers and they all look fine (white). The liquid damage was not a water damage I get a little bit of oily liquid on my phone but just a little, so very little of it could get inside my phone if any, but after that my phone just frozen on android screen and when I tried to reset it, it’s always freezes on android boot screen. And yes I tried resetting Android from MAGLDR, I even tried to install different android soft but after installation it still freezes on android boot screen.
Code:
the easiest ways to brick(any maybe recover) your phone are all void
Can you explain more about his one? And how I can do that?
I don't really want to unscrew anything because if I going to do something wrong I would void my insurance and they not going to change it at all. I was thinking maybe just drop it in a big cup of water and hold it for like 30sec - 1min. I think my insurance will cover water damage and I think whey not even going to bother to fix it. What do you think?

The thing is that I have insurance on it not a warranty. If I only had just a warranty I will think of fixing it by my self with jtag. But now I just need to think of how to break it so whey don't know it was hacked pay to my insurance £20 - £30 and I should get brand new HD2

I already trouble shot it with Google but I figured I would ask here as most of you know more than they.
I already did a factory reset 3 days ago because I deleted a file I shouldn't have. But now it has come down to them recommending me do another and then getting back if it still persists.
The problem is when I turn my screen back on I see white spots all over the screen for 2-3 seconds. I can't imagine why, or even why a factory reset is going to fix.
I have NEVER dropped (cross fingers) or got it wet, and truthfully have no idea how to tell and wouldnt want to begin taking the back off.
I am most certain there is no water damage
So I have tried:
Switched Wallpapers
Turned phone off then on
Switched from Apex to Launcher
Still there. I am posting a pic below. If anyone could help I would be most grateful.
Again you prolly know more than most of their employees
One time when I had a problem, but eventually got fixed, this is what I was told, they will do an advanced replacement, BUT I have to pay $350, then get it back when they get and verify the phone I send
I am not working so would not be able to do that. I suppose I could switch to my phone of choice I have here and just send it in?
Or I was told contact LG where there is no downpayment needed.
In either case, back then I was told there was stock for this type of situation, now I am told they no longer have any? You have any idea when they will catch up
THANKS for even taking time to read this, and even more if you can help

Can't imagine what sort of hardware issue or fault would cause that, it looks like some sort of effect done by software.
You need to reset your phone and go back to the stock ROM (if not already using that) and then see if it still does it, I suspect it will not.

Phil
So this was present before the factory reset 3 days ago? If not then do it again

Thanks to everyone, as you were responding, my friend Macky (maybe you know him LOL) suspected it had to be software/app because it showed up on the screen shot. So he said it wasnt hardware
I reset again and no problem
Thanks
lets say it wasn't the app, what could have caused it. (btw I dont root so dont know all the basics you prolly do) Just simple things like the computer that get messed up??
