So after reading through a lot of threads about problems with chevron, it seems that most, if not all, people are getting the communication error when trying to unlock their phone with Chevron. Personally, Ive tried everything the guides said and a bunch more over the past couple days and nothing will work. Has anything changed in the past week or two to make chevron just stop working? Any ideas anyone? WP7 is nice, but not being able to activate it and use live services is fast becoming a deal-breaker

Agreeing with you on this one peace warhead. It just doesn't seem to work even on Windows 7. Somethings gone awry. I have moved back to Nand Android as it didn't activate for me after using every method others have suggested over a period of 5 days.
That you can't unlock your phone can have more than one reason. I have the same problem because I tried everything thats possible now and nothing works. Maybe it's my computer, mybe it's my reg-tweked phone. There are many tutorials how to unlock, re-unlock, keep unlocked your phone, if nothing works, you only have to options. Reflash wp7 or wait until someone finds the reason for that issue.

I have had PDAs for over 10 years, all of which have untill recently been Palms. 2 months ago I bought a X01HT and since then it has taken over my life, I am spending way too much time reading forums and upgrading, probably on average over 3 hours a day. I can not get any work done. maybe I'm stupid, I don't know, all I want is a working device and my device after many upgrades and roms is not reliable, it crashes 5 times a day, I've missed important calls and MMSs and lost important files. What should I do? am I missing somethin
Any hints would be greatly appreciated, I just don't know where to start
Currently using LVSW not the latest but about a week old, with the Japanese addons suggested on the forums, and a basic selection of software that all have been noted as being used by someone else without problems (nothing strange) have also tried black 2 and 3 with the same amount of phone throwing success ( I haven't thrown it, or misstreated it in any way, although I have wanted to)
I don't want to miss out on the endless possibilities that PPC has over the Palm but I may just have to go back to Palm so I can get my life back

thanks for the link I did the things you suggested and reformated my SD card and uninstalled Spb pocket plus and things seem much better, It has only been a day but not crashes so far, thankyou.
I am willing to help build a wiki and I know its going to be hard but is it possible to start a troubleshooting wiki? maybe with software issues with various ROMs, wireless issues etc? I realize it's going to be big and take some time but a general WM6 troubleshooting guide I think would possibly be more advantagous than searching through 100s of pages of the forum with little success

Everyone needs a hobby.
I'm using the latest Black ROM, and had no problems so far. It is quite likely to be the add-ons and programs you have installed. Have you tried using clean ROMs or alternative programs?
I want to send a HUGE thanks to all the developers and users on the site. I have had nothing but problems over the past week, with my EVO being stuck in some inbetween root and unroot world... I couldn't load the PC36IMG file to re-root, I couldn't get toasts part 2 running to run so i could get those files to run, couldn't get files to flash that needed flashing, etc.... I was stuck only able to use one or 2 different roms, which, while allowing me to have a phone, frustrated me to no end, knowing that it wasn't right. Through piecing bits of info I read in various different threads, i was finally able to do everything that I needed to do to get back to a good rooted state. I can now run any Rom, and have control over my phone again. I am starting to understand ADB a little better, and am no longer intimidated by it.
Only problem I still am having, is the 4g issue... I had a bad Mac address, which I was finally able to run the fix (I couldn't get in before because of the state of the phone), but I still get the (Turning on, scanning, connecting to sprint, turning off, repeat). I know it is only a matter of time till that gets fixed as well.
I decided to thank everyone in a single thread, because it was no one persons help or advice that helped me get through this. It was a collective effort by everyone. I don't want to even TRY to thank individuals, for fear of leaving someone out.

I was having the 4g issue.. i just reverted back to the DC ROM 3.1.2.. works like a charm for me. I'll wait until the stable Froyo ROMs before i upgrade again.

Nice to post here, you all are really good at this, that's why i'd like to ask you anything that's being a headache these days.
I ran the WP7 Moonlight rom on my HD2 properly last week. I've been using it for a couple of days and everything works fine, except the jailbreak thing.
I read that the Moonlight already contains the hack but it actually doesn't work for me. I've been trying to hack it by the famous chevronwp7 method (I followed all the steps, little by little, from even 4 differents guides) and no success at all... it says "check the USB ... check zune open... blablabla" I read lots of posts on here about this issue and none of the answers worked for me.
The main reason because I want to hack it is to stop the battery problem that makes my phone last less than 20 hours (I have 3G disconnected most of the time to prevent this but it doesn't make much!!). I've read that i could arrange this by editing the registry.
I think everything would be fine if I could hack the phone...
Any ideas?

Ok I fear I have a very isolated problem since I have not found any other posts over multiple sites on the same issue.
I bought my VM optimus V 3 days ago and wanted to root it. I had used gingerbreak to root my optimus M just 1-2 weeks ago without problem. Well unfortunately I did not see that it basically doesnt work anymore (I did PLENTY of research but you guys have the only post), and installed and attempted a root.
It failed after a few restarts and tries, so I moved on, but soon I noticed 3G and GPS (I guess data as a whole) was not working.
Since then (2 days) I have rooted using <yuck> windows-superoneclick and flashed multiple ROMS including stock with success. BUT no matter what I do the data is still not working.
VM couldnt figure anything out, and has escalated the issue internally, and I could go down to BEST BUY and exchange it as broken, but I'd rather figure it out, and I hope its something stupid easy.
Can any serious developers, or even funny ones help me out here? Thanks in advance!

Latest: Its been escalated again to like lvl3 VM support now, since 3G shows up and up and down arrows flash but it doesnt actually work. Also the virgin activate app completes but identified my phone as a Nexus S!!???

Same thing happened to me I freaked out.
I saw this thread and used Gingerbreak to unroot my phone in hopes the problem would go away. It didn't seem to. Then I tried to turn on some sync things like gmail and google reader. Googled for a bit and the 3g came back on I received the email notice for signing up to xda and just thought I would let you know it wasn't permanent. If you backed up your original rom with the gingerbreak try flashing to it and unrooting. Then wait a while for the 3g to come back.
I need your help guys. Been on here for years, rooted every phone I have ever owned (multiple carriers). Self taught through trial and error and reading threads on here. But I have now ran into an issue that I have never seen or heard of and cant seem to find something on here to help. A friend of mine has Verizon Galaxy S5 and recently had to replace it through the insurance plan he had on it from Verizon. He had been complaining for a while and has finally agreed to let me take a look and see if I can fix it. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING!!! (that I can think of). This is extremely frustrating. Below ill list the issues and things Ive tried.
Issues:
Operating system crashes
Rebooting on its own
Wont load up when turned on
Apps crashing
Battery wont last long
and general "Jankyness" haha (seriously though)
These issues are constant issues meaning all happen constantly throughout the day and night.
I have tried multiple factory resets through the settings and through stock recovery
Just tried using Odin to fix this aaaannndddd NNOOO GO!!! 8-O
i have used Odin many times, never seen it not work like this. If anyone has an explanation for this and a recommended solution that would be great!! Thanks all for reading this and hopefully I can help my friend.

if your friend's S5 is running OE1, you're out of luck:
