I have rooted my HTC Aria which is currently running 2.1. I also have ClockWorkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1 and the liberated_aria_FR008_signed.zip ROM for attn1. But when I try to install the ROM is looks as if it is starting to install but then when it says installing or something like that it jumps back to the Recovery menu screen and does not seem as if it has installed it completely. So I have tried this couple times and have rebooted through recovery and it just starts up as a restored version of 2.1 that was originally on my phone. Not sure what I am doing wrong. It seems as if everyone does this with such ease. Please help.

Number 1 mistake is booting into ClockworkMod with the USB cable connected. Disconnect the USB cable before you boot into ClockworkMod to flash the new ROM.

I have done that. USB was not attached to phone when booted into ClockworkMod. I just don't know why the ROM is not installing correctly. Anything else you can tell I may have done wrong?

You should make sure that you have a good download of the ROM by comparing the MD5 checksum of the zip file on your SD card with the MD5 checksum on the download page.

Did you download the ROM file to a PC and then copy it to the SD card? If so then here is a Windows version of md5sum that you can run and generate the MD5 checksum. Then compare that with the MD5 value this is on the download page. If the values don't match, then try downloading the ROM file again.
If you downloaded directly to the SD card, then you can make a "adb shell" connection and run the md5sum program on the phone to check the zip file.

Then it looks like Google will be your friend. I'm sure the Mac can generate MD5 checksums in some manner.
Anyway, so did you download to the Mac first and then copy it to the SD card or did you download it directly to the SD card?

downloaded to the Mac first and then .zipped it because my downloader auto-unzips files. then i dragged onto my SD card. Then unplugged USB and then booted into ClockWork Recovery. Did the restore and empty cache steps and attempted to install the Liberated ROM. It seems like it is installing but never seems to say complete. so then i reboot and it still goes to 2.1
i boot into recovery mode then i restore to factory settings, then i empty devlk cache which seems to not even run but just shoot back to the menu when i hit "YES". Then I go to install the ROM but it doesn't seem to be installing completely

Try downloading from your phone browser. It may be the whole, unzip /rezip process that's fuxing it up.

But it does all that really fast and then just goes back to the ClockWorkMod menu screen. Then I try and reboot and it is still 2.1

Ok. So obviously anyone who has installed the google goggles remover app from the market from paul will have issues to install the ota download via bootloader. I've tried pauls method to fix this and flash back to stock rom via fastboot which could be found here - http://android.modaco.com/content/t...ng-to-stock-1-19-before-applying-the-new-ota/
My issue is it doesn't work for me. Downloaded the pc10img rom, downloaded the fastboot zip. Created a folder on my desktop named android and I put both files in there. I then extracted the fastboot zip and tried to open windows-fastboot exe which was in the zip but all I get is a black screen that opens and closes within 2 seconds. I also tried going to start->run->cmd and trying the last 3 points from pauls site and I get a unsupported command error in cmd terminal in windows. I'm using windows wista 32 bit ( if that matters ). Any ideas fellas? Your help is much appreciated.

Install update without wiping anything
Download zip file then rename it to update.zip and place in root of sdcard
Hold volume down and power then select recovery
Select install update.zip
Once completed your phone will reboot and after it turns on you will get notification saying congratulations you updated phone.
Notice that all your apps and settings remained in tact.
Worked for me.

I can't just install the update it errors out because of google goggles. I used pauls app to remove it from the system. Now I need to restore the ORIGINAL google goggles that came with the phone via flashing back to stock. My issue is pauls fastboot method isn't working out for me.

how I did it
I had the goggles removed....
I forgot my sync cable at work.... so I renamed the .zip file to pc10img.zip
put it on the root level of my sdcard (i.e. not in any folders). I used a MicroSD adapter.
Then powered up my G2/vision while holding the touch button.
Went to the bootloader and it did a file check and found the zip file and began reflashing then reset and finished.
I also had the update.zip in the same place and it went hands free. No problems.
I used appbrain to back up my apps. but thats me.
Cheers
Just tried this method. Now my g2 is stuck at a black screen with a phone and a green arrow after the OTA update was installed via bootloader..
I cant even boot back into recovery or anything from here....
i had the same problem with the black screen and the green indicator. run fastboot reboot when it completes the update. i removed goggles and used pauls method and everything works great. if its not working youre doing it wrong

Make sure you have it named update noticed you had udate as the spelling. And if you did pauls way and reverted back to stock / wiped then you shouldn't have problems loading the update . Make sure its on the root of your sd card. Then update via bootloader.

Its not that hard, all you do is place the latest OTA update on your sd card, and rename it to update.zip. . .Its easier than it looks. Then you just boot into recovery, and flash it.

You have to reflash the stock ROM, meaning it erases everything, then you flash the ota on top. Paul has more infoat his site.

You do realize you have to run the fastboot commands through adb. And that file has to be located where you have fastboot, or the sdk tools folder is.
Code:
fastboot flash zip PC10IMG.zip
I have flashed the newest radio (26.09.04.26_M) via hboot, but I want to revert to the previous one because I was getting better download speeds. Unfortunately, every time I try to update it, it says "invalid image" or "no image." All you need to do is download the correct PD15IMG.zip from the radio thread and store it on the root of your SDcard. Make sure you've deleted the other one off your SDcard or it might be picking up both of them and throwing the error.
I have done that. In fact, this was a clean card that i used to install. In Astro, the file shows as PD15IMG. Under details, it shows as a .zip file. I don't have to rename it PD15IMG.zip.zip do I?

I would say you need to specify more of what you're doing. I'd recommend installing Rom Manager, then in the Rom Manager app, do the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" (the app is in the market).
Then download whatever rom you want, like CM 7.1 and copy it over to your cf card. Then run the Rom Manager again, and tell it to 'Install ROM from SD Card'
Realize, as is always stated, I am not responsible if you brick your phone. Be very careful to ensure everything is done right.
Bad downloads sometimes abort. Have you verified the MD5 hash of any of the zips before you tried flashing? Also, what ROMs did you try?

Assuming you did everything else right, which seems likely since you got S off, this is the most likely answer.
It's also the easiest thing to try and fix because you can just redownload the ROM and try again with a fresh copy. And ROM's do get corrupted during downloads more often than you're think, so it's not unlikely that this is your problem.
Also, download it from the phone using Clockworkmod. Less chance of the file getting borked on the transfer to the SD card.

The downloaded rom should already be zipped, so no need to zip it. And if you need to zip them back up I think it has to be without compression.

Yesterday I completed my first root (using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228566 ). Today I downloaded HDMwIn HDMI mirroring app which told me I needed the kernel manager lite. I Dowloaded and flashed I think it was Tiamat_evo kernel. After that it automatically restarted. htc white welcome screen comes on, goes away for 5 secs, white welcome screen comes back, goes away again then the revolutionary recovery screen comes on. I tried running the zip file from when I rooted it again but after rebooting again it does the same thing, over and over and over and over. I'm able to access the sd card via usb mount on the computer and I'm thinking there could a file I could put on there to make this right, maybe? I'm just not sure what file that would be if there is one. Like I said...pretty new to this stuff, so any help will be appreciated.

i tried to volumn down and power, it said something wrong...., it went too fast I couldn't see it all. It went straight to hboot.
My sd card is formatted to fat32.
I was having trouble with my camera, and is on TeamAndroid AOSP Roms, and partitioned my sdcard (500m out of 16g).
One thing when I partition the sdcard, i didn't make a back up, so I lost everything was on the sd card. so my current sdcard has no recovery.img or anything, other the files the rom created after flashed. No sure it makes any different.
Should do fastboot or recovery now? I'm on Hboot.
Please help.

Is the zip on the root of your sd card? Shouldn't be inside any folders. Also make sure it's named PG06IMG.zip exactly. Once you boots into hboot it should ask if you want to update

understood. one more thing, when I extract the files, my virus warning flagged me and I let it remove the file. should I ignore the warning?
updating.....keep my fingers cross.
it works! you guys are great.......
thank you and thank you.
I may have missed something but I hope you aren't extracting the actual PG06IMG.zip file. It needs to go onto your sdcard intact.

jsp254 is correct, I hope your not extracting the file. The PG06IMG.zip needs to be run in HBOOT. Like crump said it should be found automatically when you boot into HBOOT. You will be prompted on whether you want to flash the zip or not.
FYI, I had an issue with the 2.3 PG06IMG.zip where it flashed my bootloader to S-ON and refused to downgrade to from 2.77 to 2.76 (2.3.4 PG06IMG.zip)
I had to use the thunderbolt misc.img trick in order trick it to downgrade.
Becareful recommending things like this, guys. We're lucky we have this trick or you could screw a few people over by telling them they can use this .zip to downgrade. [I almost screwed myself over]

Thats kind of a pain.
I used http://goo.im/stock/speedy/ruu/PG06..._1.88_0128_PRL60674_release_196686_signed.zip
However, after it updated to S-ON, it says "Main Version is older! Update fail"
Do I need to use the 2.2 RUU?
EDIT:fastboot getvar version-main
2.77.651.3
Hrm. Did I screw up here?
Can I still use the 2.2 RUU?
Do I need to use the downgrade techniques to get it to downgrade?
EDIT2: I flashed the misc.img in order to trick hboot into installing 2.3.4 stock.
I'm not sure if I was suppose to have to do that.. but whatever, it worked.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to add a warning to my google page about formating the SD in recovery and how it will erase everything

Yes ignore all virus warnings. It's funny because after doing a virus scan with avast! on my pc it wanted to delete the visionary app lol. I know it's a malicious app for rooting exploits on android but it shouldn't be warning me about it on my pc lol.

I have Viper on my Laptop. It says a lot of my Android Stuff that I've used a bunch of times is Malicious . It has something to do with the security settins. But I've changed them to the lowest settings, with still the same message. I've also had it delete the Visionary apk. But at this point I just shut it down when I'm doing something I know it will interfere with. Gives me the same messages with RUU's .
