XperiaX1 - Sad sad phone - XPERIA X1 General

Hi all,
Just want to say some things about the xperiax1. Don't get me wrong, its a great phone but not many xperiax1 users are left.
And now even the X1 forum is left in a stagnant state with few posts. Not much custom roms are left, and the android builds have almost stopped completely. Developers have got new phones and switched to another forum. Sadly most users followed suit. That leaves us few who are die hard fans. Even support from Sony Ericsson has long gone.
Well i also confess that I myself have also obtained an HD2 and is happily running an android rom from nand (internal storage), I will still keep my X1i as spare. Hope that the last X1 users still keep using the X1.
Anyone has any thoughts? Pls share...

I'm quite happy user of X1 (although I have some mechanical problems with phone turning off randomly) and I'm satisfied with it. I think that most of the winmo devices are in some stagnation because of Android and WP7
but the existing roms are good enough and there is some android dvelopment here and on the neopeek.com
Some builds are ready for everyday use like FRX04 or CM6.1 but withsome problem like no camera or locking buttons but development is done on this.
So... I'm almost big fan, I like my X1, it nice in use, looks 'pro' and it was my first real smartphone
But almost 2 years is century in consumer electronics, especially in phones o If it would be possible, i'd like to change X1. But, for now, I dont have money.

heck, I just bought another x1 (see sig below) far as I'm concerened not to many of the new phonees outshine the x1, but yeah times change, screens get bigger and people move on.....however I'll keep flashing old roms and keep my x1 even after I make the leap.

Good to hear that, but all I want to have is an android platform. X1 android development is without post for days of new kernel/build. Even my favourite custom rom developer had stopped due to his X1 being stolen. Guess its almost a necessity to change...

yes.... Xperia X1 till death...

I'm very happy with my X1. maybe it's old device, maybe it comes with old OS (WM6.1), maybe it have some crack issues (mine don't have any). but anyway i love my device. I don't care about how many custom ROMs for this device, but I now there're good ROM series - gtrab's PURE, BAROBONE; Willy's 826x ROMs, ultrashot's Dynamics ROMs.
For short time i used HD2, but I can say none of WM devices as good as X1.
I love its keyboard and using it so much! even best HTC phones like - HD2, Desire, Desire HD, Nexus One, Nexus S don't have any hardware keyboard.
I don't think to change my X1 for now. I don't think to sell or change it to another device.
The only device is SE XPeria Pro that I plan to buy as primary device.

YEAH!!!

Love my xperia x1...
This has been my first windows phone and I have loved it since i bought it.It has really taught me how much freedom is actually there to customize and alter the looks and feel if you put your mind to it... WinMo 6-6.5 just rocks when it come to customisation and i dont think the android community is stagnant.... slow maybe but what would you expect for a phone which just barely cuts through the bar of being a smartphone in this era of superpowered mobiles.

I love my X1 !!! You can do soo much to it xD .. It's highly customisable. At the moment i am running the latest 826x wm6.5 build 29007 with sense 2019 also dual booting with 2.2.2 froyo
X1 can easily handle android rom, but offcourse it will never be as fast as the other phones out there. Just need someone to come out with a perfect ROM for x1 which works for all.

X1 is just perfect . Yes, its customisable, best keyboard and it looks cool with metal design. Screen to use with all weathers.
And next going to test some roms.

Got this phone today used for 50 bucks.
I'm playing with it a lot. It's highly customizable and I love the hardware keyboard.
The best would be having a complete working android froyo version without any compatibility issue to be used every day.
I hope programmers don't stop working on this high quality phone

what android rom most stable and smooth? I just can't find best one from these.
important for me. Camera, bt, wifi, smooth and good battery life.

There plenty of roms around which are all good..you will just have to try which one works best on ur X1 as it varies alot. My X1 works with gingerbread alpha5 ..
For camera there are many kernels around but i dnt think the quality is that good yet

Is OMNIA 2 Worth it??

Hi all,
I am thinking of selling my Xperia X1, that still is a great phone, but I wanted something faster.
I am considering Omnia 2, because of the battery life. As it carries the same battery capacity as Xperia, I would like to know how it performs.
My other choice was HTC HD2, but when I heard that I could not be sure it would even last me one day, I started looking for something different.
I want a WM phone, as all the programs I have (like GPS Tomtom) run on WM and I am used to it right now.
When I read some reviews about Omnia 2, I got the impression that the Samsung skin is slow and not very useful. I would like to ask if there are some good ROMS for it that solve the problem, and if you think it is worth moving from X1 to Omnia 2, or should I just go HD2.
Thank you all for the input.
UI performance with rom that my O2 shipped (I8000NIL5) was poor. Every time you switched screen widgets reloaded and this took time - just watch some review video and you will know what am I talking about.
Now I am using I8000NJD3 rom (by the way, it is WM 6.5.3) and UI runs smoothly. It is really a big difference! Plus you can choose between widgetplus and samsung today home screens (like work and life mode with B7610). Samsung's cube and main menu are gone but if you ask me they were useless. Also all the programs are updated but there is still room for enhancements.
For me, battery lasts for 2 days - hour or two of conversation, few messages and some web browsing using wi-fi. Decent performance I think.
Well with heavy use I can not get through all day without charging but that is the story with all phones on market.
You mentioned GPS program. It takes few minutes to get a fix on cold start on a sunny day.
And, when I bought a new phone I was choosing between O2 and HD2 too. Decided for O2 because I got it for ahalf of HD2's price (talking about carrier's price, not retail!). I am pretty satisfied with decision.
I had the same choice as well and chose the O2 over the HD2.
I am happy with my little "Sammy" as well.
Mr Frog
I think my Omnia 2 (i920) battery has only died once since having the phone since December. I use internet and messaging pretty heavily daily. I have no problem getting a day to two days worth out of a full charge.
The samsung widget interface isn't the best, definitely laggy and widgets are unresponsive or disappear at times.. but that's why I don't use it
There are tons of other UI's though, the one I've been using and like the best is throttle launcher..
The thing I like most about Omnia 2 is the swype keyboard, makes typing really fast once you get used to it.
The one issue I have had with this phone is that incoming phone calls or text messages will sometimes go unnoticed. That is because the ringer will not sound, yes even when volume is on full. It seems a lot of other people have been having this problem too.. It happens about 40% of the time and is rather annoying.
If I had a choice between HD2 and this phone I would definitely not purchase this one again. Overall it is a good phone, I am just tired of Omnias (had Omnia i910 too). They seem to be late to market with features and so on, not really ahead of the curve..

Never had this problem. But I have I8000, not I920.
out of the box this phone (i8000) is a peace of **** that you will just want to throw away. But thanks to cookers that issue is solved this phone dose everything you need. Using a custom lite ROM i get around 100MB of usable memory vs the 40MB on stock. I read many reviews on this phone as well and was a bit worried about it but took the plunge and could not be happier, the fact it had such bad reviews made it that much more cheaper when i went to purchase a new phone. So in the end it was a great deal for me and the hardware is still amazing for this phone, yeah it not your 1GHz snapdragon but still good enough. I just hope samsung do not forget out this phone and continue to support it, mainly adding openGL support. They have been very good with updates thus far and now its 6.5.3 so it getting better.
This phone has 2 major problems
1.) Low RAM which can be fixed by using a lite ROM, although i hope future updates reduce the reserved RAM.
2.) OpenGL driver, this phones dose not have any. I did not take this into account when i bought the phone. I thought it would just work and all apps won't have any issues and i was wrong. There are devs working on the drivers like chainfire and they do fix many apps like sences and the such but again its not fully featured drivers.
So if you buy this phone you will have to flash and tweak it to get a everyday usable phone.
p.S wtf how do you guys have swype as the default keyboard?

Only I920 has Swype preinstalled.
ohh i wonder if i can get my hands on a cab
Thank you very much for the input. It was very helpful to see what users think about their devices. It makes me sad to see such a great phone, with an OLED screen and a big batterylife, with such poor software. I like WM phones, and I do not think I will switch to android that fast, but the only usable WM phone is HD2 and that has a battery life of an hybrid car (2km just on battery). If you use it moderatly it will not even last you one day.
I hope that this phone will at least have good gps tracking, better batt life, and that with a custom rom it will be faster then my Xperia X1.
If anyone wants to add something new about this phone, just post it here.

Many here currently using kydkylin sence ROM although its a bit slow still a lot faster then stock, just avoid using the music tab if you want to keep RAM usually have 50-60MB after full day. Or if you want the litest ROM there is tw2 JE1 gives around 103MB on boot.
Thanks a lot.

I posted answer in this thread you started.
As said there, roms mentioned there are made by Samsung but can't get them via PC Studio, so I don't know if I can say that this is official upgrade (decide by yourself ).

I quite agree with most points made here, but there's a lot more to this phone than what you get out of the box.
Once you've registered on this and Modaco's forum the possibilities are virtually endless with the i8000.
When I first got this phone I nearly sent it back because of the lagging and I fancied an Android device( I still hunker after the Galaxy S now ) but I have stuck with the i8000 and I am very happy with it thanks to the great people cooking roms out there!
Omnia II is wonderful
I think this phone need excellent people to cook for it. I'm waiting for Energy ROMs to come.
* The camera is realy nice with alot of features to make nice pictures.
* Video recording is wonderful with 720 pixels recording. "I used daiamond, touch pro & HD from HTC. I will tell you it is wonderful and the difference is big.
* The samsung applications are nice and you will see tha the samsung taste is there in all applications. Sometimes you will forget yourself as being using WM!!. It is another taste.
* The battery is really having good life of more than one day for sure
* The processor is 800, the screen is much better then that of HTC.
* Samsung is producing official firmware nearly every month and although it was originally coming with wm 6.1 but it is officially upgradable to 6.5
* with the new firmware coming last July the free ram is nice. With good cooking it will go more.
* The performance is rely fast and rarly you need to do soft reset.
In summary, When excellent cooking coms to this device it will be more wonderful.
Thanks

I love my HD2!

Hey guys I've been here for years and strangely for the last couple of weeks I've not found myself on this site very much. Why? Because my damn phone is so damn good I haven't the need/urge to mess with the set up I have. I'm yet to unlock it or flash it (although I hear there are some very nice roms out there). My set up is as so:
Standard TMO USA rom.
SPB Mobile Shell 3.5
Quick Menu 2.8 (task manager/program closer).
JZ Mortbuttons
Opera Mobile 10, Opera Mobile 9, Skyfire, Mobile IE
Resco Explorer
Coreplayer
I haven't added any of my other contact programs or anything because this damn phone comes loaded with great programs and runs very, very well. I know some people may ask why did I create this thread? I see a lot of people coming in here complaining about the HD2 and WM 6.5 and I think the satisfied people need to speak up also. The phone is great (needs very few tweaks) and the OS is awesome now that is actually has a processor strong enough to really use it and a screen beautiful enough to show it's shine!
Join me with your I love my HD2 comments. Peace all.
Im with you on this one, people keep telling me to flash android. But there is no need for that.out of the box the phone rinds fine with no problems, and movies finally look good.
This will be my last phone I ever buy.

Saying it's the last phone you'll ever buy is quite a statement... you know it will die eventually, right? You plan on not using a phone after that?
Also, who keeps telling you to flash android on it? You should let them know that it's impossible to do, because their is no android port for the HD2.
HD2
HD2 is a cool phone, I waited for it since it came out first in Europe. I switched carriers too. I think it needs alot of help. The phone is clumsy to me, on any phone I had I never found myself making so many mistakes typing or scrolling, I seen the difference right away when I went back to my itouch. But I love Winmo plus I already have a that love/hate relationship by having dealt with win95/xp/vista/windows 7 so I figure why not keep it going with the mobile too..HD2 is nice it has made me learn alot about mobile phone software like CABS, Flashing, etc. We will see what impact winmo 7 has on the old 6.5/6.5.x versions. You have to admit you can't never get bored and you can't just change stuff on Android the way you can with winmo..ok im done glorifying..peace
I really like my HD2, it has its quirks but they aren't bad. The screen is amazing on it and whenever I show people it they are blown away. Once some of the issues are fixed, random reception and freezes, it will be an amazing phone.
I love my phone too
I'll keep it until the HD3 comes out
OP, you're from inland empire? Me too!
flashing ROM itself is quite an amusement for me.
HD2 does have a facebook app that I actually like and use.
I read books quite often, and HD2 became my alternative eBook Reader with an app called, Freda. I still have an eBook Reader as my main source of reading material, but on 4.3" screen, it isn't too bad to read on the phone!
Then I do watch lots of MP4 videos and use Youtube.
besides those, everything else is quite standard.
RSS hub, Web Browsing (although on 4.3" screen, it's pleasant to browse), Music Player, and all the things other phones also have.
HD2 is a satisfying device to spend your time on the go.
But it's nothing other phones can't do.
Definitely love mine, had a brilliant email, navigating, talking weekend and it didnt blink, Just need T-Mo to update to 6.5.3 and fix the radio issues and it will be perfect for me.

My wife has one also and her phone freezes while mine doesn't. The only real difference is I use SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 and she uses the standard Sense interface. I think the messaging in the Sense has issues with the OS.

I personally don't want 6.5.3 because it has the start button on the bottom and that would eliminate me from using QuickMenu as my taskmanager/program closer. Sad huh?
This phone is so awesome to have. I have been roaming around xda-devs for years tweaking, modding, flashing but this thing I have to say is very stable. I have not flashed roms ever since I got it. So far i'm loving the way it handles things and haven't have any freezing unlike what other peoples says. Anyways I couldn't promise I will not be flashing roms coz they're tempting, lol. Cheers..
Quite a phone
I really love this phone, i have had a lot of wm phones but this tops it all. i use it as am mp3 camera browsing .... and so much more. I used to flash all my other phones but i think i will keep the stock rom since i havent had an problems with it.
I'm running Energy ROM on my HD.
Flashed almost every ROM that's compatible with TMOUS, and I think I'm pretty much settled on Energy for now. Problem with the most is the SMS lag. When you get more than 50 messages in one thread, it takes a while to load the conversation you highlighted on the messaging tab. I hated it, since I had to delete them almost every day, since I text a lot.
Energy ROM uses different looking SMS and MMS tab, which eliminated most of my annoyance.
Kudos, Energy ROM
I have to agree with addicus. I've had my HD2 for a over a month now and have had absolutely NO issues (knock on wood) and I'm a HEAVY user. I keep reading these horror stories involving random freezing, SMS issues, reception problems, etc. To date these issues aren't affecting me (knock on wood again). I'm running the stock ROM because it works flawlessly for me. I've installed several apps/mods and am completely satisfied.
I haven't touched my iPhone since buying the HD2. My iPhone contract ends in June and I will not be extending it. Will this be my last phone? absolutely not. I'm definately an early adopter and have to have the latest gadgets. Until then, I LOVE MY HD2!!
It's the screen size and brilliant colors and picture quality and capacitive touch that get me... It's not much different than any other Winmo phone besides that. I also like the Sense UI.
I'm stoked on this phone and if you are afraid to do a hard resets, ROM Flashes, tweaking WinMo, etc, I don't understand what you are doing on this site complaining anyhow... Just buy an Iphone and keep your opinions to yourself...
There is nothing worse about this phone than any other phone if you know what you are doing. Only good things...
Yeah, I love mine too much. I'm spending too much time on it. I think it's a bad thing.
Me and the wife's phone hasn't froze on us yet. We are on stock rom, using Sense UI.
I made a whole DVD of a graduation documentary with just the phone's camera alone. It turned out pretty good. Of course I edited on a PC though.
This phone will last me a while, at least till HD3 comes out.
Also, swype is screwing my typing skills up. The other day I went to use my Desktop and I was swyping on my keyboard. LOL...

HD2 + Desire Comparisons

Hello
I have a simple choice to make, whether to go with the HTC HD2 (and Windows 6.5), which will entail leaving Orange and not getting any upgrade offers, or to go with the Desire and Android.
I currently have a Diamond and have never, truly, had a problem with it that is down to the operating system. The reason its now dog slow is something to do with the amount of times ive dropped it from circa 4 feet. Its also scratched to buggery. I do like a lot of features of Windows 6.5 though, and im therefore a little reluctant to jump over to Android for a faster OS when i will sudddenly not be able to do some things i do now.
The first one that springs to mind is the contact list, where i can simply type a few numbers, or letters of someones name (first name or last name or last 3 letters of name, etc) and get given the number i want. Does Android do this? (I assume this is an OS thing, as my previous windows phones have all done this, though no other non windows phone ive used has!)
Otherwise, in terms of applications, will they run on Android if they run on Windwows, i suspect not. Or is it a case that some might but some wont? Is it a completely different setup? I have TomTom which runs like a gem through windows, will this work with android? I guess this is a usual question, im not buying TomTom again just to have it on my new device!
Final thing, what is battery life like on each, is one much better than others, particularly when using applications and, in particular, GPS?
Any sensible discussion is appreciated. No 'Desire is better' etc comments without a comparison/reason please.
Thanks in advance!
Steve
HD2 > Desire
not only the OS, but I simply love the hardware much better too.
With Android you get the promise of frequent(ish if you think of the hero) updates to your OS. Yeah you get less useability but you can still root your phone if you need to.
Winmo is still good and the HD2's screen is a thing to behold. Honestly, best bet is to try the phones yourself in a store.
I have both. HD2 and Desire.
Desire: Awsome! Poor battery, need to recharge 2-3 times at one day! Low volume! Poor music player! If you get a SMS from a service like 1999 it randomly finds a contacts and says for example that the SMS is from Mark (a random contact). VERY slow charcing! Android, very userfriendly! Awsome FaceBook app! Can only synch my Gmail!!! AMOLED screen!
Leo: Awsome fast charcing! Good batterylife! SRS WOWHD v1.5.1.0 = Awsome music quality! Need to be restarted every day, more then one time each day! Awsome screen! SMS deliver problem! Keyboard lag! I can synch my Hotmail, contacts etc! Costumizable! Better flash.
I'm currently using both, Leo for music and Desire as my main phone. And my Sony Ericsson watch is connect with my Desire...
I have just brought a desire for my daughter and have been comparing the two phones.1st of all I love my hd2, so i thought it would be very one sided and it was.
The desire is just so much better. The hd2 is without doubt the best looking hardware with the nicest screen in the world (IMHO) but the android software is so much easier and rewarding to use. The hd2 suits me fine because when im working nightshift and I have 10 hours to kill doing nothing, Im busy messy around with my phone getting this to work or that to work but I dont think thats for everyone.
The way I see it is you have the IPhone that everything works and is so easy a baby could use it but for that reason its locked down in every way that you cant do anything to modify it or personalise it.
You have the HD2 which seems totally open but you have to get your hands dirty to make everything work or to make it work faster or less buggy.
The Desire sits right in the middle and takes the best of both. Everything works very easily and SUPER QUICK, you have your millions of unnecessary apps, its not locked down like the IPhone and even more customisable than the hd2. You also have the fact that android will keep being developed and WM wont.
Sorry for the long post but seeing as im doing exactly what the post was talking about i had a lot on my mind.
RReckless
PS my HD2 is still the prettiest of them all
HD2
get the HD2. i take it with your diamond your used to hard spl if so the HD2 is no different.
put a good custom ROM on ie xtreame 6.5 rom and you will not have any problems
as for syncing mail, i use my google mail account for exchange with contacts etc, and hotmail for emails as well both work flawlessly and have no sms problems
bottom line, if you don't mind putting a custom rom on your phone get the HD2
otherwise the desire is your best bet
1. Desire is from HTC so it has the function press some letter then the contact pop up like u want.
2. I can say apps on Desire have more fun to use, but not so convenient for some basic function, e.g: HD2 have TCPMP, Core Player to play video that u dont have to spent hour to convert. Mobipocket reader to read prc. Office mobile is so convenient.
You will feel it's really fun with apps at first, but when u try everything that are recommended, you will just need the basic things which HD2 is better
3. I dont have a Desire, but based on reviews, battery life seem to be worse than HD2.
4. Desire can be rooted but u cannot do much thing with it like with HD2, and you will feel bored very soon in terms of customizing ur screen
i want the live wallpapers on my hd2 >.> xd
My Pennies worth...
I had both the Desire and HD2 for a week to compare..
Yes you do need to tweak the HD2 more (but that's part of the fun and being in the xda community)... and android is being developed for much quicker than anything else but I choose the HD2 for the following reasons..
1.The Camera is much better on the HD2 even though they are both 5 megapixel shooters, the HD2 was better in all conditions (low light etc)
2.There's no decent video player for android yet (compared to coreplayer, although I believe they're working on an android version)
3. I stream a lot of TV/Music and the beebplayer program is rubbish compared to myPlayer on winmo - having said that the LastFM widget for Android is really good.
4. The Screen is better IMHO on the HD2 in both size and quality
5. FPSEce is only available on winmo and is totally brilliant.
6. I've gambled on the fact that the HD2 may get an android port or windows 7 port by the talented devs on this site, and therefore give me the best of all worlds on a really powerful device.
The only thing i miss from Android at the moment is the live wallpapers... very cool
Some good posts, here, thanks a lot.
Re: Android ports for the HD2, ive heard this mentioned a lot. I know a bit about roms and things (I have duttythroys rom on the Diamond), but im not too sure about the OS. Is it feasible that HTC (or someone else) release a rom or something that would put Android onto the HD2? Is Windows 7 also a possibility? Obviously you can do it with a PC, jump from say XP to Windows 7, is the same move just as easy on a mobile device or does it require radical jiggerypokery?

No way HTC will do that, just a dream

mmh, microsoft said there will be NO upgrade to wm7.. but a port is possible, it did even succeed already to port wm7 to the hd2, its just buggy, and buggy means useless..
HTC will never make an android hd2 rom.. that would be really really really amazing if they would do that, but this are some crazy wishes xD
but yea, other HTC winmo phones got ports for android... even dualboot winmo/android. i would love that on the hd2 >=)
So i guess the point is that it *could* happen, even though it may not be official (as far as HTC are concerned?)
Just went to a mobile shop today and played with Desire for a while. IMO, I can conclude that the Desire with Android 2.1 is not interesting as it is advertised. Web browser is a very little faster, phone still laggy sometimes, not anything more special then 1.5 in terms of looks, customization. I still feel bored quite quickly

Question about HTC HD2 stability

Hi allz!
I want buy one hd2 but i see in more forums, hd2 have many times problem with freezing, sometime unresponsible. Someone say me, if i want htc phone desire is the better. Another question is the calling stability.
I need your opinion about this phone. Good idea to buy in this time or waiting for new phone is the better choice.

I see you're another potential X1 defector (as I was), I haven't looked back. Its a lot more stable than my X1 ever was, not to mention the overall package!

My x1 is 100% but i want sell in working state
x1 is good phone but the internet feel is too low on the 3" display.
My problem is, i see ,this is the best phone in the market, but too many negative critics, this is real or user problem? My fear is a severe freeze-ing problem.

Don't forget, people only post on forums when they have issues, not when its running smoothly, so you will always get a lot more negative comments than the phone deserves. I've not had to reboot my HD2 for at least a month, its been rock solid.
Theirs two problems with HD2. One windows mobile its a bit buggy and needs attention. Two HTC sense can be buggy as well so you need to tweak both or have a shell or run the stock windows mobile or just flash it. I cant recommend the hd2 for the weak heart it or too attached to android.
any other reply?
i was worried like you about the reports of instability when pondering the hd2. i've had mine for about a month (on stock rom) and despite the odd minor niggle (always to do with something i installed), i would say it's been very stable.
incidentally, i was talking about this to friend with an iphone and he said his "crashes all the time". i think the message is if you want absolute rock-stability then stick to a non-smartphone as these more complex devices are always going to be flakey to some extent.
short answer: i wouldn't worry about it.
I have had mine for nearly two months and I do not regret the purchase at all. Currently running stock rom and had very few hiccups. Once in a while you will have a minor issue thats not too bad to resolve. Its a little bit like owning a 70s muscle car...get your hands dirty once in a while...but she simply hums otherwise
Ive had mine since november and its not caused me any serious problems (apart from ones that were my fault)...
The stability has been 100% on the stock rom and on an energy rom.........
There is a lot of negative posts regarding the stability/lag etc....
But as someone already said, the majority of people only post when they have a problem. Even if you do have a problem it can usually be solved ......
In short......... I dont think you'll be disapointed if you switch......
Beside the heat-issue when navigating in hot summer-weather in the car (charging and running nav-prog ) my HD2 - though of the very first batch received by end of Nov. 2009 - is the most stable phone I ever had (NOKIA E90, Sony P900/910, HTC Touch HD "Blackstone")
I have approx. 50 apps installed (and use ALL of them !) and a lot of mods from the geniousses here at XDA (CoOkie, Dunc, Dinik, Smaberg, Davej, Jaguaralani etc. - sorry if I forgot one: YOU ARE ALL GENIOUSSES )
What I strictly refrain from is playing around with flashing ROMS and buying branded Smartphones. I have stock-ROM 1.66/WM 6.5/Radio 2.06.51.07/Prot. 15.30.50 running and almost all reg.tweaks from the "tips & tricks" thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 ). Especially moving all cache-folders to Storage Card is essential. My last getting stuck or freeze (beside the heat issue) was maybe three months ago. Cooked ROMS are great for enthusiasts and people that have plenty time playing around as a hobby but if You want to work with Your HD2 everyday in a stable way better not try it
I invested some money and got me SPB-Backup, SKTools (full background services running), PocketMechanic and Resco-Explorer (better than any e-reader- and document-tab) installed.
Whenever I install a mod or tweak or app I strictly proceed as follows (takes time and discipline to do this but spares the frustration and day-long anger hardresetting and starting from the scratch again):
0. READ ENTIRE THREAD FOR AN APP/MOD/TWEAK BEFORE INSTALLING !!! IF YOU READ: e.g. "Doesn´t work for me, 1.66 ROM" multiple times DON´T INSTALL IT !!! (that sucks but keeps You happy with Your HD2)
1. Full backup of the HD2 (except storage card)
2. Installation of app/mod/tweak (if not explicitly specified) to Storage Card
3. Testing the app/mod/tweak after installation and full testing of the HD2 if everything else is running fine.
4. Cleaning the installation Junk with e.g. "Junk Cleaner"
5. Additionally "Autoclean" with SKTools
6. Running Registry Optimizer with SKTools
If HD2 freezes after installation of an app/mod/tweak just take out the battery, start the HD2 and full restore with SPB-Backup-file and everything is fine and perfect in no time
Believe me, I am SO TEMPTED to install Froyo 2.2 but since it works only with Radio 2.08 and higher and I read of a lot of problems with Radios 2.08 and higher on the 1.66 ROM I have to abstain and live without Froyo 2.2
Have fun with Your HD2

If you have loaded android on HD2...did you like it better than WinMo?

I know it has its imperfections...I played with a droid a little while back and liked the widget aspect...but is it worth even trying to see how the hd2 works with it.?
are you serious?!
ok, may be you're really not knowing better. let's grab your own words first, widgets, or better applikations in generell. every of them I tested myself so far(and those were legions... = ) ran smoove, fast und didn't ever influence any other part of the system in performance and stability in a negative way.
more, the android apps in the first place show the potential of our favorite device.
everything I used in WM, I now have a notch enough better and, that's the best, I got 1000x more ; ), 1000x more style, 1000x more flow, 1000x more effectivity
and I never need cosmetics like sense anymore
and by the way, a freeze a day, that's yesterday. if android reboots, I tell him before
it's worth it, it solves it!
I think touch Flo is great and without it winmo would have been hell. However imho android is in a different league in terms of apps, ease of use and eye candy.

yes, junior, I am being serious---as I have been Sense all since the beginnings...thanks for your 2 cents...I'll take a dive and check it out.
I still enjoy using WinMo, but I can't deny how great Android is. It meets all of my expectations and without all of the tweaking that had to be done in WinMo.
Sense UI ontop of 6.5.x kept the system modern, but it wasn't enough for me. I bought the HD2 because I wanted the top of the line WinMo phone. Now I have the top of the line WinMo and Android phone bundled together. Sad to say it, but once WiFi tether is up and running I will completely phase out anything but Android. The underlying core is as important as the clothes you put on it.

Give it a try, you wont be disappointed. I wasnt a WinMo user, I have had Androids since the G1 came out, Blackberry devices prior to that, matter of fact I had pre-ordered my G1. After the G1 I went to the Nexus when it came out, but was keeping a close eye on the HD2 progress as I really liked the phone but really disliked WinMo lol, anyways, I sold my nexus and got a netbook and a HD2 for what I sold my Nexus for..cant beat that.
Android on the HD2 is not as fluent as my Nexus was but its pretty close. If you like WinMo then give Android a shot, its so much more. It has apps for just about everything you could think of and a great majority of them are free or a buck or two.
The ecosystem of Android offers so much over that of WinMo, first off Microsoft has all but forgotten the existence of anything related to 6.5 and has moved on to 7, with that so have most of your developers. The HD2 with WinMo is all but dead, yet its still a decent phone..breathe some life into it and see what that little green robot can do for you
I have been an Android user since Late 2008. I was an early adopter with the G1. And i used my G1 up until I bought my HD2, and the only reason i purchased it was because i wanted to take a gamble to see if the devs could get android running on it.
Look at the progress that they have gotten done on it. Big props to them. If you lived anywhere near me, i would take you out for many beers.
Touchflo was fine, as long as you have never used android before. which a lot of people who were only winmo users are starting to figure out.
Open Source FTMFW
Dual Boot Preference
I have been an avid WinMo user since the Wing all the way up to the HD2. I will say since the Android platform has been ported onto the HD2 hardware I have been thoroughly impressed with Android and more disinterested in WinMo. My only issue with the dual boot is that if Android fails I cannot reboot back into it without a "root.fs" failure. Which means I have to delete all trace files on my sd card and start all over. Can someone please let me know what I am doing wrong and PM me because I may not get to read your post in time.
Thx - New Android Converter
I use Android on my HD2 since the first release.
I couldn't go back to sense/winmo.
It's like I had a new phone ^^
The early releases freezed, chrashed, but *the late ones are right for daily usage.
(just use the right light winmo rom, the right radio, and disable the g-sensor)
The only sad part is, you'll need to boot on winmo to access your SD and copy files.
Well, for now 'till it's fixed
Android is so... ... I can't describe it, try it
I was days, if not hours away from selling my HD2 cause i was bored of WM, i had tried every ROM out there, and sure it's a great phone as is. But for me i needed something more. Now that i have android on my device, IMHO I have the best device on the market. Period. It is EXACTLY what i was looking for in a phone. I can even go back into windows if i need something.
I will always keep winmo as the booting OS but do like the android sense build, if it ran in the same way on winmo I probably wouldn't even use android, but the widgets, speed and ease of use is a winner. I feel though, that sense in winmo looks much more polished (visually) than it does in android.
I am amazed at the amount of people who speak of polish when It comes to android. Sense does look nice on Winmo but thats only a cover for a really old and ugly interface. With android the sense ui is weaved into the Os. We may not have the pretty Icons or th 18 so called useful screens But I didnt use half of those screens.
A Twitter home screen is no match for a twitter widget.
A Music widget is no match for the music home screen. Though cht does help with that.
I only need a few home screens because android makes such good use of its space with widgets and such.
Overall I think im just use to sense on android. I was completely disappointed with Winmo sense.
To each their own. Both do the job well for certain people. I personally dont need exchange or calender sync
Btw I'm running shu8icraft 1.4c along with a june 11 energy rom.
radio 2.10 t-mo us (underclocked at 652mhz)
I've been a WIM user for years, absolutely loved Sense, and felt loyal to WM -but after less than 20 hours on Android I'm not going back. Microsoft has completely lost me as a user

i do agree how Android has more eye candy yet still runs smoother than WM.
I do love Sense UI(and Android comes with it to on some builds) but even WM with Sense is still being ran by an out of date, sluggish OS
In windows mobile the sense graphics and overall snappiness still impresses me. Beyond that it is clunky, ugly and feels generally old. Android is just plain intuitive. It puts all the settings in the right place and spells out what everything does for you. Notifications are handled better and everything just feels like the people who created it put thought into it. Finally the apps are the icing on the cake. The android market is in full gear while WM development is on its last legs.
Well...I tried it, and went back to winmo...(did it with Energy's Android ROM)---I reloaded the previous Sense rom, and even after deleting all Android aspects of the rom, I am now plagued with problems such as:
1. Programs (file explorer, for example) not working with storage card inserted
2. sprite and pim backup fail
3. soft resets only successful if storage card is not inserted
4. Black screen of death upon going into standby mode---
did I miss something? I already reflashed twice!
I love the fact that when all of us were buying HD2 - others were saying why buy HD2 when it's outdated already cuz of WinMo 6.5... But now, nowhere to be found are peeps who were saying those things to us ... running WinMo, geting bored, switching over to Android - simply the BEAUTY!!!
I use WinMo as primary OS until it is figured out how to improve battery life - but still here and there I run Android for 2-3 days - just for fun of getting my hands on Apps

When i have removed android I never suffered any of the ill effects. Android doesnt touch the winmo files so why would it cause these things not to work.
Sounds like typical winmo stuff to me.
Did you task 29 and do a format of the sdcard.
Have to say, all the Android builds i have tried just cant match up to a speedy custom ROM on Winmo.
A good custom ROM imo is snappier, quicker and much less likely to freeze randomly.
I need to use my HD2 daily and need it to work 100% of the time - so at the moment im sticking with winmo.
Actually, I have fewer problems with Android froyostone v1 than WinMo; I find it more stable than Miri/Steve GTX (one before latest ROM) which is pretty darn stable! Had Android running for 3 days so far with no need of a reboot...that doesn't happen with WinMo. Slightly annoying that headsets (I know they work on other builds but sticking with froyostone for now) and wifi tethering doesn't work--but I am sure they will soon!
