CM5 or CM6 Battery Life ?

Which provides more battery life.
Im on CM5 now and my battery dies SO FAST you can almost see it going down just watching the screen, i have the screen turned all the way down, use only 2g networks. ever tried to under-clock, when i check battery usage says system idle uses 49%
any ideas ?

Flash another ROM or something, try wiping battery stats, it has been suggested all over the forum...
Why do I even bother...when the mods see this youre a gonner anyway.

It's not so much the ROM, its the apps and widgets you have installed. Some are poorly written, some don't play nice with other apps or certain set ups.
All you can do is install a monitoring app like system panel, and remove the apps that are using alot of CPU.

listen pal what im saying is my battery doesnt last for **** since i flased CM5 so im wondering if thats to be expected with CM5 and maybe fixed in CM6. but yea ur super helping that for the sarcastic reply, next time dont bother. ooh and btw i dont have to use the phone for it to die with in like 10 hours it will be idle the entire time and it will die.

It's definitely not a "CM5 issue" that would be fixed in CM6 (CM6 is still in RC, CM5 has had several stable releases!) eyegor's suggestion to wipe battery stats was probably good advice believe it or not. Charge full, power off, leave plugged in. Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats. Power down, unplug and start up, let it drain allllll the way.

Battery life is pretty variable as you can see in the numerous threads on this topic. CM's forum has one with a poll with most saying CM6 is better, but not a clear cut answer.
I used SystemPanel's monitor function to identify which app was eating battery. It worked great! My biggest offender was Weather and Toggle widget. I loved its customization but its battery gulping was just not worth it. Got rid of it and my battery life is much more consistent.
I also got a cheapie battery off eBay which helped.

Both CM5 and 6 run perfect on my phone. No battery drains.
My point was that you're in the wrong section, pal.

You also might want to watch logcat while the phone is idle or sleeping to see if there are numerous errors or warnings scrolling by when there should be very little activity.

I have a similar issue. Initially I had the rediculous drain, but as mentioned wiping battery stats from recovery fixed it for the most part. Once it says its fully charged and you turn the phone off, let it sit charging overnight. Then wipe the stats in the morning and don't charge again until the phone turns itself off. Only issue I have now is that when I've got my GPS turned on, in use or not, it kills the battery. While in use I get about 2 hours from a full battery to the phone turning itself off. Haven't figured that one out.

thus far ur method has worked ! my battery so far seems to last longer then when i first got the phone LOL
i was playing music at the loudest volume for an our just to test it and it only went down 3 percent battery life

No worries. It freaked me out when I first flashed 5.0.8. I use my phone as an MP3 player in my truck with it plugged in to my CD players AUX Jack. Did a 5 hour road trip and only lost around 10% including a few phone calls.

As I've noticed people ate flooding the threads with battery issues
I thought some tips might help
1. Wipe battery stats once and only doing it when switching between liberated and cm6, don't do it everytime u flash over a newer version of the rom
2. Use minimal brightness and do not use auto, although it may seem like it helps it doesn't, someone told me this and explained basically using the sensor wastes more batter than it saves
3. Use minimal data and get into the habit of shutting it off right after your done or set it on 2g for those who need the notifications, yes it might take a few seconds more to download but its better than the phone being dead
4. Don't let the phone completely die its bad for the battery, I've got into the habit to charge it every night even if it is full and its shown improvement
5. Leave the thing alone!!! If you need the phone don't play games, or anything else that drains it

To contribute: Lithium batteries are most definitely temperature sensitive. When possible, take it out of your pocket, bag, etc. The hotter it is, the more it drains.

^ that is a very important thing as Lithium Ion batteries do not react well to being deep cycled. It is actually recommended that you charge at no less than 35% to prevent the battery " memory" from retaining half charge and reporting full. Almost all new lithium ion batteries are manufactured with a microchip attached to a PCB. This maintains battery function and also allows your phone to report what the current charge, temp, and health of your battery is.

How do we set Aria to 2g ? I want to turn off 3G however not finding any option. Battery life is terrible with Aria.

I've seen a couple posts, in other forums, that a task killer will hurt battery life more than improve it. Is this true? If so, why?
Also, I wiped battery stats more than I should've. Did that do permanent damage or will it fix itself over time?

some programs you cant kill so it makes the cpu jump to 100% which drains the battery
i personally find out which programs pop back up and put them on a ignore list to make it drain less
it isnt permanent it will fix over time just charge it fully and dont let it go past 15% and it should improve over time

If your in a 3g saturated area the 3g will contantly swap towers even with screen off, when i first got my phone i could sit and watch the battery level drop about 1% every 10 seconds to get around this open phones dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#* and under phone status select gsm only you use same method to swap back to WCDMA prefered for 3g if you need to use wifi tether or need high speed but this was like a whole new phone for me battery wise. will be neet if there is an app that enables 3g for like browser or maps or something like that and then swapps back to edge when not using something that would need it. if there is already one out there lemme know i could use it.

but will charging it overnight bad for it? so it dosnt overcharge? i thought i heard someone say that so i try to charge it before i go to bed then charge more in the morning but i wasnt sure if Li batteries would overcharge or not
edit: nevermind i just read that it is not possible to over charge a batty but it is bad to leave it charging for more than 24 hours because it will over heat and can cause internal damage to battery and to phone

Been running it on my Aria on CM6.1-RC1. So far running as advertised. In areas with weaker 3g coverage, switching to 2g has cut my battery usage in about half. I've really only used this to turn off 3g, as I need 2g on all the time for push gmail and im, and am using setCPU for cpu clocking.

i am running Liberated FR006, and have no plans on switching to anything else (maybe the official 2.2 release, but not likely). when should/can i wipe battery data? i've had the phone since june and havent wiped it.

Interesting. I was wondering about this the other, thinking that perhaps my battery life has gotten worse since I put the phone in a silicone case. Is that perhaps holding heat in/creating overheating and battery drainage?

Lately I've been running the latest update of the same ROM (Nonsensikal Froyo - now 15.2) without any CPU apps (no o/c'ing through script either), no autokiller, no battery tweaks (just Juice Plotter) only 1 widget (Fancy Widget Pro), JIT enabled, VM heap @32, compcache @18 (default) and depending on which app I look at, TiB or RE, I have +/-110mb of free RAM, very minimal apps. Also, I upgraded to CFSv9. I even bought a Seidio Innocell 1750mh extended life battery. I recalibrate my battery after flashes ....
Oh yeah, a little more info, I am not a power user, just an average user with poor to ok reception, I tend to use wireless at my house b/c reception out here in the woods ain't good, but turn it off when not needed. I use airplane mode during sleeping hours as well. The max of my battery usage is Display, then And OS.
Ok, now the question ..... If I don't use airplane mode, I get maaaaaay-be 6-8 hours of average phone usage, usually less !!
What finally broke me to PM you now is that (i recently put numbers on my battery icon) while typing a text message earlier (a few minutes tops, not on wireless) I watched my battery click down from 50 to 48 !!!
When I charge my phone full & I easily lose 10% in half an hour (I've tried this with SetCPU, JD, CBT, Super Power, CPUBoost Lite - I think you get the gist) ... and not including airplane mode, I NEVER get more than 6-8 hours of battery life !!!
Is there any knowledge that you can give me on this issue or have I pretty much exhausted my options ? I am this PM short of resigning to crappy battery life

What does the phone/Spare Parts say is using all the battery? Have you tried flashing and then using the phone without installing apps (other than the essentials?) Are you leaving the phone idle, screen off, and noticing the same big drop?
You could try going to stock for a bit to see if it improves...or trying a different ROM. Maybe you have a dud battery?
Edit: Sorry, you may have meant this to be directed at someone specifically.

Just an observation. If you're not using anything to overclock the phone maybe the battery life would be better if you at least underclock it. I suggest Conap's CPUBoost Lite, free on the market and here. Just set the minimum frequency to 245760 (my suggestion), and I currently have the screen off Minimum to 19200 and the screen off Maximum to 480000.
Also, I used to use Juice Plotter. I theorized that maybe Juice Plotter wasn't great for my battery itself.

I noticed the same thing when I used Juice Plotter. I got significantly less battery life when i had it. Try deleting Juice Plotter and see if you get more life out of your battery.

well you've noted your in a poor coverage area, and that is your problem, nothing can completely fix other than moving, but you may want to research flashing a new radio, becareful and check your md5 hash sums

Actually, the Verizon Network Extender can definitely help without moving. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=gotoFemtocell
It's $250, but probably a lot cheaper than moving, and it should help with battery life. It does with me - I get 24-32 hours on a 1750 battery, with WiFi on all of the time (I have the old, non-3G extender.)

I'm running Tazz Froyo and get a minimum of 24 hrs on stock battery. I would try changing roms.

Battery life on my eris was never good, that's why you buy a extended battery. I have the biggest one that they have on amazon and my battery can last for five days with average use

PS. ive been on xtrrom for awhile now (like a month and a half) and it just started dropping. spare parts says android system is greater than the rest, if that helps

Yes, it works if you do it propely. Charge phone to 100%, boot into recovery, wipe battery stats, reboot phone. Use your phone as normal until the battery is fully discharged and it shuts the phone off. I sometimes try to turn it back on also just to make sure it is all the way dead. Plug your phone in to charge it, walk away, don't touch it until it is 100% charged. Turn your phone on and use it as normal. It sometimes will take a few times charging it to see a difference. If I missed anything or mistyped anything some one correct me please lol

Display using the most battery power

I have the Telus Fascinate which is the same as the Tmobile Vibrant.
I notice that when checking my battery usage that the display is using a whopping 92% of the battery. Is there a fix to reduce it?
I have automatic display unchecked and display brightness to 0.

Nope, but then that doesn't mean the display has used up 98% of the battery the whole time the phone has been on. I could be wrong, but the way I read that info is when the phone is awake, the screen uses the most power in relation to the other listed items. I've noticed on days when I have alot of phone calls, it listed the radio instead of display as the top user.
If you want more detailed usage, I think spare parts shows full battery stats. But I use an app called Battery Left and it has access to the full battery stats.

Display using battery is a good thing. Means only drain is from being on rather than the other **** draining it...

For a average user, meaning not too much phone calls etc. Display WILL always and SHOULD always be the highest.
It just says that theres no other apps acting up.
but it is good to look at MORE detailed stats than the default one though, its not that accurate.

1 hour of display time will use approximately 20% of your battery. This is and always will be the case.

I meant that the stats where it says more than 90% of battery had been drained on display is false. As apps and other daily uses usually contributes about 35-70% of that usage.
Screen brightness doesn't have that HUGE devastation on the battery, when it's in normal percentage ofcourse.

if you're worried about your display draining the battery use the app called screen filter. works like a charm

Also, I'm not sure if this is for rooted phones only, but typing *#*#4636#*#* pulls up usage statistics like battery information and battery history. I think it gives you a better idea of what's going on with your battery.

Battery drains fast and problems with charger

Hi,
after I overclocked my device and used custom ROM to reduce lag the battery was drains fast and overheat and I used the factory image(in android 4.3) to get the stock kernel and stock ROM my device not overheat anymore but still drains fast and the charger sometimes when my device is on charges slooowly and sometimes while it plugged in it don't charge it decrease 1 percent and stop charging while playing any game and the charger smell like burnt and it charge first while my device is off but that didn't happen to me before the overclock,
I want to know I there are way to increase battery life and fix the charger problem,

A Few Apps For Battery Life
There are a couple things I would do, first is you need to monitor what is draining the battery. One thing to note though is your OC is obviously going to drain the battery quicker than stock and your governor setting could also affect this a lot. I am guessing your custom ROM has a non-stock kernel with it, if not I would recommend Franco's Kernel (r75 is the latest) and he even has an app that will keep you updated and flash for you (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=en) there is also a free version of that. Franco's paid app has a built in power settings option that lets you adjust power usage per app that could be extremely useful in your case. However I would do some monitoring first and make sure a live wallpaper or a hardware monitor is not draining more battery than you think it is.
I've used these two apps and both do a great job of letting you know what is using the battery most during load/idle/sleep:

There is also a free version, but this is easily worth the few bucks. It uses the camera to read the lighting of the environment you are in and based on the ratio you set, will dim or brighten your display. This method trumps any of the built in features, like NVIDIA's option.
Those two apps will help your battery a lot, especially if you also use the monitoring programs to see what is draining the battery so quickly.

Just restart your N7. The battery draining issue would go away for about 5 days. This trick works for me

One of my Favorites that saves the battery is Lux Dash:

There is also a free version, but this is easily worth the few bucks. It uses the camera to read the lighting of the environment you are in and based on the ratio you set, will dim or brighten your display. This method trumps any of the built in features, like NVIDIA's option.
Those two apps will help your battery a lot, especially if you also use the monitoring programs to see what is draining the battery so quickly.
