Greets All,
I have a couple of quick questions, the first one will probably be easy to answer, but some roms have 4 desktops you can finger swipe or use the home key to navigate to, other roms have 7, is there a way to add more then 7?
Second question, I asked this thru PM but never got an answer so now I'll ask here. As we all have been searching for the bluetooth mac address fix that doesnt put a generic Mac, I went on the hunt and found so far only 1 Kernel that actually has either a unique address or the actual address, and no answer as to why the only one I found is a kernel that works on an SDcard version of android.
I am of course not talking about gingerbread since I am not using that, but 2.2.1, I tried to figure out endlessly for days and weeks, but I am not a programmer, but I would think it wouldnt been that difficult to make it work on nand roms or zip roms. Obviously I tired to take the kernel and push it into the rom I use which is a zip DesireHD build, and it just hung at the boot screen, I tried it with other roms and the same problem. Someone said that SDCard kernels are different then nand and zip roms and thats why it hung.
But I guess the question is if the solution is in the kernel and obviously credit to the kernel dev, why cant it be implimented to our current roms? Now if there is already a fix for this without having to manually enter it, then please point me to that thread, cause all the ones that pop up either have no replies or looking for the same thing.
No idea for the BT thing, but the amount of homescreens simply depends on your home app. I believe both LauncherPro and ADW Launcher (both free on market) support more than 7 screens, not sure on either of them though.
You should however seriously reconsider if you really need more than 7 homescreens. If you need them for shortcuts to apps: why? There's no use transferring everything to your homescreen when you can just as easily scroll through the app drawer. Create a few strategic folders if you need some more structure.
If you want all these homescreens for widgets, take into account that this is bad for both performance and battery life. 7 is already quite a lot, crossing that barrier doesn't seem like a wise decision to me.
Well I wasnt looking for go crazy with the screens I was merely talking maybe 2 more, and not for shortcut to apps, thats what we got the app drawer for. I was talking more like (just an example):
1- Home screen
2- Email
3- SMS
4- Weather
5- Facebook
6- Social Hub
7- Shortcuts/widgets
8- Calendar
9- Music
Wow 20 reads and 1 reply, either I ask really hard questions or no one cares. amazing.

I know this is a pretty retarded question but I did some googleing and found nothing on the desire z about sideloading and I'm not sure if following the steps for another phone would be a good idea. I was also wondering about getting rid of the bloat ware, what kind of apps do I need to do that and do I need to sideload those apps?
This is my first android phone. My last phone was a palm pre and all their homebrew stuff was very simple and put into 1 app you can download and get everything from (apps, overclocking, themes and custom kernels all from 1 place) so this is kinda big step because it seems to involve a lot more then 2 or 3 taps on a screen.
Thanks for any help you can give a newbie!
if you search you will see some info about how to remove bloatware, but its not pretty (IMO) and I think you need to root your phone.
As for side loading, if you go to setting>applications>manage applications there is a check box that allow you to load apps from any source. Just be sure its checked. I downloaded an app (TN5250 emulator) from www.mochasoft.dk and it installed just fine.
After you downloaded it did you have to move it to the SD card? Or are you able to download right to the phone?
Edit: Also, does anyone know if you can install stock android? What benefits would you get from doing so? The only thing I would care about is not having 40 pre loaded useless app/shortcuts. A few of them are uno, tv & radio, tunes & apps, twitter, superuser, search people (i can just go into people and press the search button, what is the point of this undeletable sortcut?), peep, navigation, lets golf, learn more. This is an awesome phone but there are so many useless things added and it makes it hard to find the handful of apps that I would actually use. Some of these "apps" are just shortcuts to webpages, why do I need this and why can't they go away?!
How can I add folders to my dock? If anyone can help me out that would be great, thank you!
Sent from my Droid using XDA Premium App
I use GoLauncher Ex and I've never applied a folder to the dock. I don't think you can, correct me if I'm wrong but you can only add to the screen which I have two folders on mine. Just long press on any free spot on the screen till you have a pop up you will have options to choose ie.,Widgets, shortcuts, applications, and folders choose folders you will get another popup asking what folders you want, contacts ,starred folder , new folder ect. Choose new folder it will exit back to the screen you choose you will see a plain square then hit your apps drawer long press your apps drag to the bottom of your screen where it says add to home screen once that is on your screen drag that app to the folder(plain square) and release it. Now its your folder repeat the process for your desired apps or for as many folders as you want. Hope it helps.
That won't help you with GO EX,but with ADW EX you can put Folders in Dock

Thank you and some discovering I did
Hey, thank you so much bullswife98 and mblaster4711 for giving that advice.
I must say since I left that last post, a lot has changed with GO Launcher EX now. They came out with a beta a couple weeks ago and its great! It allows you to do exactly what I had wanted to do, but it doesn't have the feature to let you put folders into folders, but its cool, I love this new one now.
After I posted that question, I had decided to look for the best folder organizer out there that worked well with me. I did find a app tool called, Folder Organizer 3.4.3. That allowed me to not only put folders created within that app on the dock but I was also able to easily change the folders icon and also put folders within folders! I had a it for a good while, but I still had to do some discovering. I tried out ADW Launcher EX but it didn't work so well for me, it just didn't have enough the customizing features like GO Launcher EX did. I like a lot of things about adw but I was just more comfortable with GO more then anything. I tried a couple other launchers but found myself back with my usual. lol.
About a week ago I found a app tool called Elixir2 and I'm so glad I found it because ever since I started messing around with it haven't been able to put it down, literally. It makes you think for sure. It has features like allow you to put customized widgets on your screen, you can find out pretty much anything about you phone from that app. It's very useful and clear for anyone. I'm still learning about all of this stuff so I have found it very helpful and useful. The app also has add-ons that give you other features. You should check it out if you're interested because I know I haven't even said everything that it can do. Plus the best thing is.. it's free!
Once again,
Thank you very much.

EVERY THING THAT IS NEEDED TO RUN AN ANDROID PHONE IN A SINGLE APP
This i basically started as an idea. but i have started working on it. Not a pro dev myself, so am calling all devs to help me out. Credits wil be given to all of those who contribute. Hoping for your support.
[IDEA] everyone here is testing a new rom almost everyday. new rom testing means, installing everything from scrap. In other words it a lot time consuming. so this app is mainly for those who want to test roms, and after flashing they just have to install one app. So they can run all from that.
[app functions]
i dnt knw exactly how much this can be done, but i am tryng to make it work. here are some of the things that it will contain-
1. launcher (themable, fast, without animation,LWP support)
2. messenging (themable, sms backup)
3. task manager
4. file manager (having zip file support)
5. app manager (having backup functions, app2sd move function)
6. terminal
7. flash light
8. gallary viewer
9. QR barcode scanner
10. dialler (including contacts, contact backup)
11. media player (includs both music, video)
some thing i hope to include but might not work-
1. wifi theter
2. busybox installer
3. filesystem explorer (with root)
4. sns
5. power manager
total app size~ not exceeding 25mb
more over this app has to hold some of the apps that are in the market but will be installed through this one. So the developers of the respective app has to be contacted for permissions.
i was hoping that this app to be released as a free app. but if developers come forewad to help me out, then every developers request will be counted.
hoping devs would come to help me.
Hmm..wow that's an interesting idea, I wish I could help (sorry only c# developer ) Now...some things which I thought about though, that might make something like this difficult is, first fitting everything you mentioned into 25mb (lol, that's veeeeerrrry small) Next if I understand correctly, you want to make this like an "All In One App" Basically within the app you can restore or load a launcher, messenger app, and all the other things. So one question, what would make this different than an one quick restore with titanium backup?

well first i was hoping that all this i would have to accumulate in or around 25mb.i have some of the things working and that was around 45mb.
this app will have all the stuff a normal person would need. this can be helpful when one does not have root. if i get everything working here then, i wd create two versions- one for normal use, an other for dev use(which would have many things)
Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the A500 have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, be sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.
Screens:
So far so good. I'm using ezterry's simple stock rom that has root. I've been able to switch between profiles without any problems. The only thing that I've noticed that was strange happened to the app Full Screen Launcher. After the first switch from my original profile to my new profile and then back to original. My folders, shortcuts widgets and anything, other than what was there as default when the app was first launched on the desktop disappeared. This only happened on the first switch. Once I added the shortcuts and stuff back and then tried again the were as they should be. So that's really not an issue. Gameloft games that are moved to sd card via GL to SD from the Market seem to work as well.
Is there anything specific that you want checked? I'd give a few things a shot if you have something in mind. So far, I can't find anything wrong with my setup. And the app is pretty neat. Kinda cool having a fresh tablet to play with. It's even neater that I can just switch back to my profile with all of my junk.
Just what i've been looking for, will test tonight
Device Iconia A500 16gb
ROM Thor's ics v96
have internal and external 32gb swapped
Everything working as should including fast switching.
Takes less than minute to switch.
was also able to clone without issue.
Key has been purchased.
Thanks for this!

Thank you! Please rate the app - just press the little star button at the top of the main interface.
Good ratings help us invest more in apps and give users with similar hardware peace of mind.
Thanks in advance!
Why only for the a500?
If you wish for some 501 testing, let me know.

Sure, why not.
Are you a programmer? We are hiring in moscow at the moment!
Excellent app. Tested yesterday on honeylicious and purchased key. Keep up the good work
Not found any issues as yet.
Thanks. If you like it, please rate it on the market, that helps a lot.
Any issues to report or is everything working flawlessly as usual?

1.2.2 - HOTFIX 2
Reworked widget on qHD+ displays
Fixed widget text on HC and ICS
Fast switch improved on older devices
Hi guys! I would really appreciate some feedback regarding the new lockscreen!
Anything at all?
Its working perfectly here! Thank for this awesome app!
it's working great for me also. sometimes keyboard will lag when needing to put in password from lock screen. once I get my alarmed dismissed in the morning, I'm really awake;-) Also, is there a way to make the key work for all users? I'm unable to access the lock screen settings from other user logins.
edit, fixed the key issue by moving the key apk from /data/apps to /system/apps

It wont work forever! Not unless you have the same account in the two profiles. In any case, we are working on it, so the switch screen will be accessible to all profiles with one key!
hi,
I've a Liberty Tab, rooted and running Acer Stock Rooted ROM.
I'm installed your app soon after root and it works flawlessly.
How can I setup the replacement lockscreen?
Hello! There will be a new build which gives lockscreen access to everyone very soon!
Any comments on the new switch screen?
I did ask this question as a follow-up to another question in another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1616252, but it got lost in the shuffle and went unanswered. No problem. I hope it will deserve a thread of its own.
I see MIUI has a guest mode; in it, children (and others) can't access and/or accidentally delete emails, contacts, apps, etc. As Nook is very kid-friendly, some of us would like to share with our children, but the potential problems are obvious.
So, two related questions:
(1) Is guest mode only available in the MUIU Roms? and
(2) What alternatives exist? (Apps and software suites, for example, with similar functionality)
Thanks, everyone.
I'm not generally aware of any guest modes or apps for guest mode. What you can do is setup more than one home launcher. It won't allow you to block access to the apps in the app drawer or system settings but you can essentially have an entirely different home setup. That way you can have just the apps you choose for the child easily available. You can use an app like Home Switcher or Home Manager to change between the home launchers.
You can even remove the app drawer launcher from the home screen so that you would have to go into the settings menus to get to the app drawer. Depending on the level of sophistication of the child you are talking about they can still get to this stuff and change the setting if they want but that is another issue.
This might work for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496854
as a warning, it does not work with apps on the SD card- it WILL delete them!

You can dual boot and when your kids want to play with your nook, you reboot and boot into the partition that you want them to use. Easy to set up with any combination of OS's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275859&highlight=dualboot . The thread is really helpful. I had been dualbooting with cm7 and cm9 but reverted as I wasn't using cm9 at all.
