Read, study, read more. Then ask a specific question.
A starting point is setting up your computer with the android sdk, and the appropriate drivers for your tab. Do a google search for "android sdk", and install it.
Come back here when you get that done.
You didn't bother to hit the search button did you?
From the Tab.

You will need to start by reading about how to root your device.then look into available Rom and how to flash them.as everyone suggest do some reading first.good luck

You should not be asking this question on the android section. Has nothing to do with android.

I agree, but here is some help too:
Make sure you're using the latest hspl3. You need to get out of the android forum and into the WinMo ROM development forum. Look for the thread titled "noobs guide to flashing." Read it 2 or 3 times. Make sure you flash a Rom / radio combo specific to your device: TMO or Euro. This is important as the wrong one will make a mess of your awesome phone.
After you run the hspl 3 you can then flash a custom Rom in bootloader (reset phone while holding down "vol down" button).
Like I said, head over to the WinMo Rom development thread, do your homework, and then have at it. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it.

I could really use some ones help me root my phone and get 2.2 froyo I would really appreciate if some one can help me please. Can help one reply and show me how
Do you want root + custom rom, or just stock froyo.
I will tell you that stock froyo leaves a LOT to be desired and the custom ROMs are incredibly better.
Help me out whats best for me to do so I wont be able to crash my phone lol thank you for replying
Honestly, you are better off rooting on your stock 2.1, read the noob guide.... will add more shortly.
After you read that, you will note all you need to do is move update.zip and flash it (in the guide).
Boom, you have root... now download Rom Manager, flash CWR, and create a backup (also in the guide).
Now that you have a backup of your system, backup your apps (Titanium Backup app), in the guide.
Now, download a custom ROM and flash it with CWR..... I recommend Trigger V2.5. You can go to the dev section and find it, or click the link in my signature to watch a video if you like. If on your phone best to watch the video embedded in his thread so the annotations show up.
there is no quick way of doing this
u need to do some reading
in s15274n click on the "My noob guide" read it, then read the "My Vibrant Guide",
then if u have questions about really specific things, people will help you out.
read lots before u start flashing roms, because it is risky.
hope this helps, i am new to the android world too and been reading lots lately, my phone should be here soon though
Ok I will root right now and reply when I am done but where is the noob guid?
my signature, or the sticky in the Q&A section.
Ok checking. I have been reading lots also bc I don't wanna mess up my from that's why I am asking for help you know lol
s15274n noob guide has all you need, rooting is pretty simple and there are A LOT of videos showing step by step for rooting, flashing a rom, updating a theme etc.... so welcome, after a couple of weeks you will be so happy with the phone it will blow your mind
Thank you I'll be back guys i need to help my brother with some stuff. Right now the first I'm doing is rooting so i have the undate.zip in the internal right gonnd turn off my phone and do it
I read those guides posted by s15274n and others countless times before i rooted, then I read them again. Read them until there is no question in your mind as to what your doing. Read the rom flashing guides as well, as you'll more than likley want to put a custom on on after you've gained root. Thanks to s15274n and the other members who have taken the time to make easy to follow guides and tutorials.
Ok I root it now download a Rom right. But what is Trigger V2.5.
I'm looking for the Trigger V2.5 but i dont find it I see Trigger V2.0.1
look in the development section of the vibrant forums..anyway..trigger 2.6 got released today..here is the link for the thread:

(click where it says "download trigger 2.6")
Hi!
I' ve spent these past few days searching and researching for all the usual stuff we all want for our Android "machines"; ROOT, RECOVERY "CVM", upgrade of ROM (to 2.3.3. Gingerbread) or at least the ability to flash other ROMs...
And let me tell you it's pretty time consuming to make good sense of all the information which are scattered all across the threads and posts! So many words have been written and yet there are no simple answers; "what to choose..., for which Tab..., WHAT TO DO?!..." I was forced to read thru entire threads just to learn some things as I'm the kinda a guy who puts the theory before practice and I must be absolutely SURE I understand what I'm going to do and have to have a plan B aswell, if things go wrong...
I think that from time to time someone should draw the line and gather all the useful info in a new thread...
So this is it; for all you noobs and all of you who own the GALAXY TAB GT-P1000, GSM also EURO/ INTERNATIONAL TAB... (not for N/L, not for CDMA...) I should also mention, I have an UNBRANDED - unlocked Tab.
LET'S GET STARTED!
You have two choices - You either wish to have your Tab rooted and maintain your firmware,
OR
you wish your Tab to be rooted, upgraded to 2.3.3. Gingerbread (able to flash other ROMs also) and equipt with recovery CVM (this also comes with kinda "rom manager" application)
For JUST ROOTING your Tab follow this link, using the "SuperOneClick" app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
For THE WHOLE "NINE YARDS" (if you wish root, upgrade, recovery... the lot.), then use this link:
http://www.thegalaxytabforum.com/in...gingerbread-p1000xxjq1-p1000xxjq1-p1000xxjpz/
You should register to get the necessary files... After the flash of the (optional) "Rooted Kernel" you will also have installed some new apps, among them there is an app similar to the Rom Manager...
Using the latter link will upgrade your Tab completely.
By the way... There is an upgraded version of Gingerbread - "RC1" pack. Use it at your own will...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074759
I hope this will clear things up a bit. I'm sure, I would be thrilled if someone would have written the instructions like this for me...

@the OP , i already edit my post in your previous thread
so here we are again
1st of all
what the buck you posting is refer to our FORUM XDA-DEVELOPERS and what you see there is a COPY & PASTE of the threads that MADE HERE
so please stop that noooooooowwwwww
Imo you have a good heart to help xda community. But its seem your step or way is wrong. You should not create a new treat. It will just making people more confuse. The correct way is to search the existing treat and compare your experience with the OP of the treat. You have good knowledge from other forum and it was not wrong to practice it here in xda (by your own word and way) but you might not use that forum name and direct the community go off xda to that forum side. Its like you are advertise us that side forum is way better than xda. Mod will not happy with that i think.
+1
I'm with kosh here.

Hi Guys, ive had my A500 for a couple of weeks now and i love it -------- im a Tablet/Computer DUMMY, can you PLEASE tell me what is "ROOTING" ?
I ask as ive read a lot about it on here and wonder if i should do it.
I will give you a different view then some I would imagine. My answer is do not bother with "Rooting".
In short, it gives you access to the files you would not normally see or need on a normal usage basis.
I would suggest you continue to use the A500 as is with out rooting it until you either find the device simply does not function as you want, or you continue to read the threads and decide you wish to try it out.
Having said that and is found in another thread simply rooting is not dangerous. But, I would say if you are new to computers/tablets that little value would be added to your experience so simply enjoy your A500.
Thankyou for your reply
install a file manger from market
install the apk from the list in this link
if you are on 3.1 install version 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138228
once you downloade the file click and install the apk from you file manager
install acer recover installer from market
open the app and click install recovery rom 1.3 thor something
reboot to recovery and install what ever rom you like
Rooting grants you access to system files you would not normally have access to.
If you don't know what it is, or don't know what the risks are, I wouldn't recommend doing it ... But I can't stop you from rooting

rooting
This gives you access to operation system files. Rooting your device is a must to get access to advance setting and change the way your tablet functions. First some reasons to not root
1.you avoid your warranty
2.you make your system easily available for mistakes to cause it to no longer being usable.
reasons average users root
1.can install advance control apps
2.can do complete backups thou not really need if you are not root access
3.hacks like the Netflix fix.adding ad-hoc support for tethering to phone
DO NOT ROOT UNTIL YOU DONT HAVE TO ASK THERR SIMPLE QUESTIONS
With that said all the answers are here in this forum.thanks to all the wonderful developers and advanced users.
Good luck. Empower yourself for a better android experience.
The blonde geeky chic
Thanks Guys and Gals----------think i wont bother at the moment,i will just spend more time learning about my Tablet!

What are you talking about? You should read the question & previous comments before you go & post up a how-to..
But if he want to do it, this would help
I am sure sooner or latter he will!
I don't want to be mean or anything, but your "tutorial" is kind of hard to understand ... And there already are thousands of tutorials on how to root.

Oh dear im sorry if ive upset people it was not my intention---------------
BUT thankyou for the "HOW TO " Im a newbie as i said and needing as much help as i can get with my A500 and yes im sure as i learn more i will want to "Root"
the merits of the root
For me, the root brought netflix, not sure if there is a way to get it yet without root. Yep, use my tab with netflix while i run my 5 miles in the gym (ok i walk most of the way, enough to see an entire movie, or email or whatnot. Worth the price of the tab right there.

Not the only thing that a root can do
Sent from my magical HTC Wildfire S.
While I am not a dev, I have spent a great many years around *nix systems. Rooting, in itself, is not difficult nor dangerous. The danger is in the new abilities to modify system parameters which should be left alone by those without sufficient knowledge. Acer has provided a utility to allow for system restore and some backup abilities which should be sufficient for most new users. With android, as with any OS, knowledge is power. I usually suggest new users gain knowledge about the system before tampering with root.
I am new to the acer community but some of you may have seen me on the nook color or huawei s7 forums and I am starting development work on the webos forums. As I said before, I am not a dev (yet) but I believe everyone should understand a concept before blindly rushing into the fray.
I will get off my soapbox now and go play. Enjoy your new acer...

My friend asked me to root his samsung galaxy for him. He doesn't have a sim card in it and it is running 2.2 froyo. I have tons on experience rooting and ROMing my Droid x2 from Verizon and my Acer tablet but I don't know where to begin on this phone. I read the sticky and I've been researching for the past week and have still yet to even get the correct drivers. My friend needs it tommorow, and he already gave me some money to do it for him. If any one, any one at all could link me to the drivers for the phone, and how to root it (prefferebly not through adb) or if you can do it without hooking it up to the computer, I would be eternally greatful! All I need to do is get the phone rooted and get a recovery on there. Somebody please help! Thanks guys!!!
