Very interesting. Still wouldn't buy an iPhone though.
1) I don't support Apple and it's business thinking
2) Android is better IMO
I wouldn't buy an iPhone either, but this Froyo debacle with Samsung is really making me respect their update model (and miss Palm/HP's update model for the Pre). Android has some serious catching up to do in that department.
Sprint removed the link ...but here is another link with more info:

Maybe Sprint doesn't want to get into a war with Verizon. If they bash the Iphone, Verizon may come back with ads not only promoting the Iphone but also pointing out that they have the Iphone and high end Andoird phones. That could leave Sprint in a tough spot.

This is closer to what I think the issue is. Personally, I seriously doubt that Sprint will ever get the iPhone (who knows, though, money talks) and that the only reason they could say that about it previously was because of AT&T's network. Maybe now that it's going to be on Verizon, it will actually work as Apple wanted it to in the first place. /shrug
Maybe Sprint expects people to unlock it and bring it to Sprint's CDMA network...maybe because Sprint rents towers from Verizon it's against the contract to bad-mouth partner devices.
Speculate, speculate, speculate.
Never go iphone att fangai. I refuse.

This was for the Evo right? If it is, I think it is simpler than that. It comes down to time, they pulled this particular slide so they could plug the evo shift at the end of the commercial.

Yes it can, but I notice a lot of commercials now play on and on but they cut the content down considerably so it seems fresh.

Dont worry, if and when that phone does come out im sure AT&T or Verizon would get it before Sprint did. Did anyone see the two new phones Sprint just came out with. The transform and some other phone. Both are totally P.O.S. I was hoping they would bust out w/ a Evo but with a better screen. Instead they come out w/ two phones that are worse then the Hero. Figures.

guys,
the phones sprint brought out are perfect to create a FULL LINEUP of android phones for Sprint.
All three of those phones are on-par if not better than the hero in terms of hardware. (Esp. the Zio)
Sprint has two top tier phones that no one else has, plus a solid middle of the pack lineup (with these added).
They have to provide phones that most peole want.
If they put out another 4g phone, all of you would be complaining about the $10/month fee.
You have to be able to step back and look at what Sprint is doing overall.

you can find the articles that go along with this imaginary phone. Its most likely never getting produced
mozilla has no intention of developing this phone at the moment as its focus is on software, not hardware. But this is a phone concept for the open web, and one which has features sure to make their way into new phones over the coming years
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/mozilla-seabird-phone-is-full-of-good-ideas-20100924/ for those that ask for the info to back up my statements.
Since Mozilla Labs launched the Concept Series with an open call for participation we’ve had thousands of people join in, share ideas and develop concepts around Firefox, the Mozilla projects and the Open Web as a whole.
In response to our open call Billy May, in early 2009, produced a throw-away concept for an “Open Web Concept Phone”. Working directly off of that community feedback, Billy has since finished the exploration with his concept “Seabird”.
Throw away concept.
https://mozillalabs.com/conceptseries/2010/09/23/seabird/
so don't get excited. sadly we will most likely see focus on innovation wain while the carriers demand focus on locking down the phones. which like every other security option given to the end user is cracked wide open and tinkered with.
Holy Crap
I'm still wide eyed and drooling after seeing that. Absolutely jaw dropping. Mozilla could dominate the market if they could mass produce it and contract every carrier to provide it. Of course, then we would all have the same thing
I didn't follow CES as much as I wanted to so I'm wondering in your opinions what is the most exciting phone coming in 2011? I just saw specs for the atrix and I'm impressed. I hate at&t but when it cones out on March I might have to go with it. I didn't see where sprint was getting anything. Anybody jumping on the attic in March? Thanks for the responses.

And yeah the atrix is pretty much what I expected the Nexus S to be. Gingerbread had no business being released on a rehashed galaxy s. They shoulda just pushed gingerbread to all n1 owners (which was the point of getting that phone in the first place.) And then got 2.4 out on the NS or whatever nexus it would've been if they would've waited. Perhaps a "Nexus Duo" or something since they didn't want a nexus 2

Yeah, the Nexus S is gonna be a complete and udderly waste of google's time with the outs of the dual core phones with HDMI and an actual SD card slot. I wasn't aware that the numbers were this low. I would think that this would be something that Google would be concerned with because eventually this could hurt the growth of Android. Marketing is a powerful thing and if Apple and Microsoft are in some way able to get into the heads of the masses. You know how powerful marketing can be even when it's just trying to spread FUD. The company that I work for has BB as the "corporate standard" but because we purchased several other companies in the past year that standard has been loosened a bit because of the high number of iPhone users at the other company. There are only two of us in the IT Department that have Android and with what I see going on I still don't feel comfortable pushing Android. The first time there was an issue I know that my CIO would use it as the reason why we shouldn't use Android and that would be the end of that.

Sure...
I spoke to sprint advanced tech support and he hinted that it would be a Sprint iPhone, though he admitted he would not put money down on that.
It will NOT be a Sprint iPhone. if it is I will cancel my service with them immediately for two reasons.
1. An IPhone for Sprint = not an industry first (people aren't seeming to grasp this one, though its not necessarily your prediction just what a rep said)
2. The iPhone 4 is already a device that is on the brink of obsolete. In a world where dual cores and 4g are becoming standard, the people buying iPhone for Verizon are asking to get left behind. If Sprint, who has been doing a great job of staying ahead of the game, decides that taking two steps back and calling it an "industry first" is a wise new game plan, I may as well throw in the towel.
Remember, a vast majority of sales reps, really don't know what they are even talking about.

May have been slight exaggeration... but, innovation and making that tiny effort to stay ahead is the main reason I go with sprint. The fact being that the company has been doing a great job leading the game without being the biggest in sales or subscribers would make all this fuss over an obsolete phone, instead of putting that money to better uses, would definitely make me question if I should go to Verizon or ATT for their soon to be superior phones (atrix, bionic, thunderbolt) if that makes sense.
It would be a huge letdown to me if all this hubbub was over a phone two other carriers have.
I really don't think the announcement is going to be the Iphone. I doubt Sprint will even get Iphone on there service until the Iphone 5 is out with 4G and a dual core. Anyway this thread was meant to be a joke. See, the OP said that Sprint's big announcement will be that the Steelers won the Super Bowl, which would not be making the impossible, possible. I hope the Packers win just because they beat my Eagles and the Eagles actually should have won since they lost by 5 and the Pro Bowl field goal kicker missed 2 FG which would have been 6 points and the win. I guess I could take a little more pride in losing by so little to the eventual SB champs.
I highly doubt Sprint is going to spend the money to get the Iphone on their service. Just Google how much Verizon will spend on Iphone. If Sprint does just expect some serious rate hikes on your next plan.

EVO 2 and WiMax are on hold right now, with Sprint's ongoing saga with Clearwire. It's at a point where they are thinking of going complete LTE, and just move away from Clearwire/WiMax. Clear could avoid this death wish, by using Sprint's Network Vision and calling it a day. Both companies will make an substantial amount of money, and your 3G speeds will be back to normal.
The only way the EVO 2 debuts at CTIA, is if HTC/Sprint rehash the Inspire 4G/Thunderbolt/Desire Z for Sprint, and call it the EVO 2. It won't be close to the actual original EVO 2 designs(Sabor wasn't either), but to appease the public, that is what may happen. By the way, HTC/Sprint's love child has been in the works a year and a half before Engadget leaked the news. "Supersonic" wasn't even the original codename for the device. News did leaked months before the device dropped, but that info was late too.

Sprint is a stupid company. They don't learn.
First they bought Nextel and we all know how that turned out...
Second they bought half of clearwire...from the same Guy that ran Nextel into the gground, then had sprint buy it.

Well unless a guy I have depended on over the last 10 years for the Sprint goodies is wrong for the first time (quite possible)...I am sure it will happen.
I have seen pictures of phones dating back to the Samsung a900 before it was known to exist from this guy who is my cousins, baby daddys neighbor down the street.....lol

LMAO. Agreed. Seriously though, yes, they are some great new features. Trouble is Apple is now playing catch up. They present this crap as if it's an industry first. There was literally nothing that I saw that hasn't already been done by Android.
Did I just see people suggest that a carrier carrying a phone, that most the other carriers are going to have, is a reason to leave that carrier?

well for those with ipad 2's that cant jailbreak ios 5 may just be a blessing with some of those features jailbreakers already have
Personally, one less difference between competitors. Now more about the network. Sprint fails in my area. Of course, YMMV in yours.
It is a legit concern how much Apple's influence will hinder a carrier's Android phone development. The Apple hater in me says they will be a black hole that will surpass any nightmare Stephen Hawkins awoke from.
