Keeping your Nexus, or getting an EVO (Supersonic)

Just a quick poll to see where everyone here is at. I'm probably going to give Sprint a year or so to expand their 4g (WiMax) coverage before committing to a new phone. I highly doubt (although I know I will be proved wrong) that the N1 will be on par with the newest (super)smartphones for quite some time.

I agree... Evo specs are nice, but not enough for me to jump ship..... n1 baby

I change my phones like I change my underwear, but I can see my beloved little nexus being with me for some considerable time.

not leaving Tmobile for Sprint.

After seeing the various update debacles with the phones currently out in the market..i think I'll stick to phones sold directly by Google. I feel bad for all the Droid owners.

I'm waiting on a tegra android phone...then ill make the jump!

im jumping as soon as it comes out i had tmobile then sprint then tmobile again. With sprint i had much better coverage than i do with tmobile.
I agree its not that big of jump because it only has minor upgrades: slightly improved processor (can be overclocked to 1.3ghz), better camera, dont care for the hdmi port, kickstand. Its the screen i want that screen soooo bad without windows mobile. Yes we do have amoled but the quality on the hd2 is still amazing and i assume it will be visible in the sun lol

Where'd you find this information? Isn't it the same processor as the N1?
Personally, I'm skeptical on the HDMI out, too. It wasn't until after I hooked up my laptop to my TV that I found out it's only video-out, not audio, which defeated a lot of the purpose for my use.
I am concerned the screen is too big. The N1 seems to fit snugly in my pockets, this one may be a little tighter of a fit -- although I haven't heard this complain about the HD2.
ALSO, I do think that t-mobile --> sprint is an upgrade. TMo 3g is good, when its good, but it isn't always good (make sense?). Some 3g areas i get 2500 down, 1500 up, some I get 800 down, and in most places I'm in 2g network. On the other hand, my girlfriend has a Pixi via Sprint and I almost never see hers out of an EV-DO network (3g for Sprint, I believe).

Next phone has to have 1.5 Ghz or dual , till then I will keep the SexyNexi!

It's very tempting but I think I'll stick with my N1 and T-mo for little while.

I'd stick to tmo. Only reason to change would be coverage issues for your area. As far as their new '4g' upgrades..check the following links.

If they hold true it essentially means 4g is a lie (ITU has not ratified the standard). Comcast, Cleawire, and Sprint all advertise it like crazy on TV here in the mid-atlantic region. Very misleading if the speed tests and truth about the standard are correct. Also looks like (true to nature) they are crippling it right out of the gate. Sure, 4g 'spec' has potential and some of the APAC carriers who adopted a draft spec of it early have shown what it's capable of but the US carriers just cant ever seem to get it right.

My next phone will be Super AMOLED.
I can't see a reason to switch otherwise.

If for no other reason already mentioned, I'd hold off on the EVO until battery life has been tested. WiMAX means you need two radios functioning simultaneously, which would mean your battery would barely make it through half a day, in theory.

No reason to switch to sprint & evo now, the Nexus continues to rock!

That's pretty gross.

A friend of mine just got an HD2, and seeing that dimensions are similar ill pass, its too large and bulky for my taste as opposed to sleek and sexi, with that said ill stick to my n1 on another note its SPRINT..nuff said.

One more day left..

For my Sprint 30 day guarantee. Tomorrow is the last day I can return my Evo and walk away without a termination fee. Im coming from Tmobile and have used just about all their phones and all iphones, and the Evo holds its own. I love the screen size, and its build quality. But the main thing ive liked is the 3g coverage, its no where near as fast as Tmobile in my area, but i do alot of highway driving and get 1mb plus everywhere. With Tmobile once i started getting away from the city it would drop to edge. I guess ill go play with tmobiles new Mytouch 4g and make my decision there. I just sold the g2 i had which i hated, but I still own my Vibrant and iphone 4 so i could always go back.
But so far what I Like:
Screen size!!!!!
Build quality!
Dual Flash
3g Coverage
Development support.
What I dont like:
Super amoled looks wayy better.
3g is slower but still fine (Evo= 1mb+ to Vibrant=5mb downloads)
Graphics Suck. Live wallpaper slows it down, and 3d gaming is barely playable
Sprints Customer service is no where near as good as Tmobiles.

Oh yeah after a talk with sprints retention departmnet, They waived my actication fee, and provided me with a credit of $50 since I mentioned the Evo could be acquired online for $150, just in order to keep my service. And right at the end when I mentioned I would continue to think about it, the rep offered me a $10 credit every month for the rest of the contract (24months). This would kick in on my next billing cycle.
My 27% discount would also kick in next bill, making my total bill $50 plus tax which is still a little more than if id return to tmobile

Kinda hard to argue with those discounts, not a bad deal right there.
But I can't understand how you like AMOLED screens more, YUCK! They always look odd to me, too blue or too vibrant and kind of pixel-y? They are more readable in some situations but still I think they look awful.

Not gonna lie... i really like the new myTouch. I am a fan of sense... also, hspa+ rocks in my area, and gsm is easier on battery than cdma. Add to that our wimax radios... lol, still love my evo though...

Is say they earned your business, man that makes me think I need to complain more..lol
The ten dollars off every month would more then compensate for the cost of the phone its self.

After having the Evo I just dont see how i can ever own anything smaller than a 4.3in screen. Ill more than likely stick with The evo untill sprint or another carrier releases a highend 4.3in that isnt lock down. I do love the phone, just wished it could handle graphics better.
With the discounts im getting and the coolness of the Evo ill probably stick to Sprint for now unless the mytouch4g blows me away, which at 3.8in I dont think it will.
Now the Nexus S/2 could be interesting.

I am also of the opinion that you have way too much time on your hands. For someone who is trying to drive their price down to nothing, you sure have a lot of the more recent phones, that you clearly could have sold to make up for any cost of having a phone in general.
While I am also a former T-mo customer, I gave them my money for 10 years, but honestly I don't think they are offering the best phones this year. As for plans, everyone I know can't touch my 4G speeds. As for customer service, I think Sprint has done a pretty good job with you.
If your just here to get attention, then I'd recommend moving on to the (Insert Next Best Phone Name) forum. The EVO on Sprint 4G clearly is the winner. If you don't have 4G then I can understand your dilemma, but still I highly doubt that you have a T-mo Talk/Text/Data for less than $50. Hell, its probably not less than $70 if your including insurance on your phones.

First off, nothing wrong with having all the latest and greatest phones out, it's by far the best way to find out which phone you personally like best. If I could afford it I'd do it too.
Second, evo is hardly the winner. All phones have their downfalls and can be considered better than others in their own right.
My nexus can be considered better than your evo for a number of reasons.
1. Google owns android. Nexus is google's baby. It is also a developers phone.when android releases froyo, gingerbread, etc. who is the first to get it? Me. Have fun waiting months for yours to update, or for some samsung owners, possibly never.
2. I'm hitting 60 fps, enjoy your 30 fps. You may have a bigger screen but can't fully enjoy it. Playing 3d games on the evo is atrocious.
3. Sprints 4g service had been highly touted this I know. But recent testing done by cnet, which I consider highly reliable and non bias; shows in NY sprints 4g getting 2-3mb whereas tmobiles hspa+ getting 5-6mb and it's not even considered true 4g lol but it doubled sprints. Now of course mileage will very.
Don't get me wrong, evo is a great phone. it's like having a portable theater in your pocket. It took me about three weeks of intense research comparing top phones on all carriers to reach a decision. I was hesitant to get the nexus considering how old it is, released in january. But it still using the same processor as many off the newer phones including evo, the 1ghz snapdragon. Yes your chip has been updated but mines still faster lol. And I like using a developer phone and getting updates before anyone else. Some may consider updates not that big of deal but froyo increased browser speed up to 30%, not something I'd want to wait months for to enjoy.
Oh and I have to say I love the trackball. Comes in handy for selecting text or other tight spots while browsing. I can also have it blink different colors: red for missed text, blue for missed call, green for voicemail, orange for email, purple for low battery, works for notifications as well.
It's nice having all this information without even turning on my phone.

The nexus one is outdated. No matter what you say. Gingerbread is rumored to come out Nov 11 and its main feature is an integtrated video chat app. Nexi don't have a front facing camera. So right there goggles baby will be handicapped with that feature. I love the nexus a year ago when it came out but data speeds aren't nothing to brag about especially if its a matter of seconds. I think the mytouch 4G is ugly, it has to much bezeling on the side. A trackball is not needed when you have a big a$$ screen. And super amoled screens have been known to burn-in the screens. All the features there's no other phone that has what the evo can offer.

Capacitive buttons
Skinny
Sexy looking phone

Yes the nexus has been out since jan that's already been stated. Thanks for that bit of info. But it still has the same processor as the evo, though an older version. Yet it is still overclocked much faster than your evo.
Front facing camera, unlockable (lol did you really list that?), htc sense (lol? Anyone can flash that), 4g, skinny (hardly, compared to other smart phones it's quiet bulky, hence the pocket theater)... All these features can be found on many phones...front facing camera is over rated I can do without. How many video calls have you made in the past month?
Trackball great for alerts I don't even have to turn on my phone to get notifications.
With that being said, I'm glad you are happy with your evo, enjoy

I actually use the front facing camera a lot. I chat with other evo and iPhone 4 users. Given the ratio its pretty thin. And what's wrong with using the same processor. You want a better processor then go to Samsung galaxy s series. Good luck with the gps on there tho. Humming bird processor blows everyone out of the water. When I mean unlockable I mean the boot loader is not on lock down. And not everyone phone can flash sense, DX or D2 can't. Which are the newer phones comparable to the evo. You were seriously contemplating leaving Sprint to go with t-mobile cause of data speeds in a restricted area. Kinda of ironic cause the only thing that you sound to be proud of on the nexus is the processor speed. Processor speed don't mean **** if you don't got 3G or WiFi connection. Edge sucks on tmo and ill take Sprints 3G even tho I have the same processor as your sexi Nexi.

Scoobasteves: Evo is just as fps unlocked as nexus, that's old news.

Are you in a bad mood man? Geez.
First I never tried driving their price down, I called about possibly porting my number and what the process is. The rep was the one asking questions and was being cool about wanting me to stay. So he offered me a discount.
And yes it's cheaper for me to go back to tmobile even with my 27% sprint discount. We have had a family plan with tmobile for 8 years, so adding my line back would only be $5 and an additional $30 for Internet.
Maybe I do have to much time in my hands, but I've never complained about prices or tried to brag about my phone being the best. I understand there are always new phones coming out and thankfully I have had the ability to try out a lot of them. I just like phones and the evo is among the best I have liked, but far from being a clear cut winner. I'm not one of those guys that think my phone is the best in the world and out down every other phone, i like to try out a lot of different phones if I'm able to, and enjoy it.
I guess I'll just enjoy my Evo and it's awesome screen size.

T-Mobile is a dying company I think, they gotta step up their game. They have lost 25% of revenue compared to last year.

Yeah I love the Evo probably one of the best phones I have used. I hear people complain that t-mo coverage is not that good in my area so that would be reason alone for me to stick with Sprint.

I was not trying to badger the OP. As a matter of fact I am a former T-mo customer and was very happy with it.
Is the reason your plan a T-mo is cheaper because you are on a family plan there and not a family plan at Sprint? If thats the case then its apples to oranges.
To the Nexus Guy. It was a very good phone and I was seriously considering it when it finally became available on a plan rate. But that didn't happen till AFTER the Evo came out. I was on the phone with T-mo monthly to find out when that would happen. They could never give me an answer. So I took the plunge and got the EVO and never looked back.
T-mo's HSPA in my area is garbage. Seven guys I work (in Tampa) with have the Galaxy, and all of them claim 2-4Mbps. I get regularly 6.5Mbps. It may get better, but it isn't right now.
Processor? Seriously dude? if thats all you got with the Nexus, then you need to sit down. Developers phone? Seriously? Ever heard of Root? Oh yeah... all of T-mo's new phones are getting lock down. FPS? Spend more time on XDA preeze. Sprint unlocked it about 2 months ago. XDA did it even longer.
Nexus is a beautiful thing. But I am sorry, it is inferior to the EVO in about every possible way.

Nexus S vs other T-mobile phones

Hey guys, I need a little help on deciding if a Nexus S is a good choice me. I still have a g1 that I bought the first day it came out and its running cyanogen 2.2 and it's amazingly SLOW lol. It last me about 6 hours without usage haha. So basically any phone will be a huge leap for me.
The things I'm looking in a phone is a nice screen, good loud speaker sound (maybe a good pair of earbuds too?), and one good for gaming and fast browsing speeds. Right now I'm looking at the mytouch 4g, G2 and the nexus S. I know about most of the features and hardware specs for the mytouch 4g and G2 but not much of the Nexus S except for its not hspa+ =(.
BTW I want a T-mobile phone because its cheap and for the past 4 years T-mobile has never let me down. I've never had a dropped call (I think haha)and my experience with their customer service has always been been great.

The Nexus S has a nice screen, good loud speaker sound ( a good pair of earbuds), and good for gaming and fast browsing speeds. If yu area dosen't get high hspa+ speeds in the first place it won't matter because they both an hspa+ phone and a regural 3g phone will get the same speeds. Also one thing to note is the Nexus S has no sd card,16GB should be plenty though. If you want stock and fast android this is your best bet! If you want to know the specific specs go to the Nexus s website.
edit:HTC has crappy speakers IMO while Samsung's are FANTASTIC

Given what you mentioned, the Nexus S is the best choice out of everything you're looking for.
-The 4" Super AMOLED with 5-point multitouch sensor is one of, if not the best screen available on a mobile device
-The speakers on Samsung's Galaxy S devices has been typically louder and fuller than the speakers found in HTC's Android offerings and Nexus S should be the same
-The 1Ghz Hummingbird CPU with dedicated GPU has been said to be THE BEST chipset for gaming on ANY mobile device
-Having HSPA+ or not makes NO difference to your experience browsing the web on your phone. The website load times are bottlenecked by the speed of the phones CPU and rendering, NOT by the speed of your wireless connection. This means that your favorite website is going to load just as fast on a 2mbps connection as it would on a 10mbps connection over HSPA+.
I see no reason for you NOT to get the Nexus S.

I like the sound of that =D. Yeah 16gigs is more than enough for me. I believe here in Las Vegas there is HSPA+. Would it be possible for the Nexus S to get HSPA+ in the future? or is it hardware related? and if more people start using HSPA+ does that mean that the 3g could possibly see an increase in average speed?

The Nexus S meets your expectations perfectly. The Screen, Speaker and earbuds that come with the phone are beast. (I seen the head phones in an unboxing and they're the ones from the Vibrant which are amazing)

I believe it is a hardware problem for HSPA+ Not sure about the average but The Nexus S has HSDPA 7.2Mbps while the G2 can get up to 20 I believe but in my area my buddies get 10Mbps on their G2 while on my mom's vibrant she gets 7.2Mbps which is not that much big of a difference.

For gaming the hummingbird destroys any other processor out there right now. on average 2X FPS on just about any game.
Now, you do lose 4G, but T-Mobiles 4G is going to take a LONG time to go nation wide, and even then it's only a max of 22Mbps down. The Nexus S can get 7.2Mbps down which is still pretty damn good since current 3g is around 2Mbps down and most home connections are around 3.
Honestly, the Nexus S is the best phone for T-Mobile right now, even without 4G.

The situation is just the same! I bought my G1 at Christmas 2008 and right now I am looking for a new phone that suit me. Given the situation that I am not an America resident, I am seeking for some one as a purchasing agent。

Neither the G2 nor MyTouch 4G will get 22mbps, ever. They are capped at 14.4 whereas most normal 3G phones are capped at 7.2.

Considering switch to AT&T and the note, opinions?

I have had the Evo 4g since launch, and it has been an amazing phone. I have loved it even more since I rooted it and every new rom I try. But my girlfriend seems to be in love with the note, and I have to admit, that big a$$ screen is kind of nice. I'm just not sure that I would put it to its fullest use for very long, liek using the stylus and stuff. And by the looks fo the forums for the Note, there are only a couple roms for it. Not saying I need to have as many roms available as I have had with my 4g, but it would be a plus.
I guess I am wondering if I should consider the note, or if the galaxy s3 might fit the bill better. Or should I stick with sprint and grab and Evo LTE?
I'm not asking you to make up my mind for me, I need to play with the phones and do that myself. Just wondering if anybody has any opinions or advice?

I've been considering jumping ship to ATT as well lately, never had a problem w/ Sprint's speeds but they've been deteriorating rapidly where I live. If you do decide to move, why not the HTC One X?

Seriously, though, I do admit that the Note is impressive, both in size and performance. While not too much more impressive than the rest of the Galaxy SII series (especially the Skyrocket), the screen size is instantly what gets people's attention. I've tested the Note, and I do like its appearance and style...but damn, that One X is sexy
I don't know, it's up to you on this one. The Note isn't too much more expensive than the One X, and Samsung's UI is easy to get used to. You get a nice phone either way.

HTC EVO 4G LTE pretty much is the one x + the SD card,kick stand and removeable battery haha..the note..ehhh,I'd just get the s3 for sprint...can't mess with unlimited data plans..perfect for root + free wifi tether/hot spot....wireless network speeds don't really effect me,as along as I can make a phone call b do basic browsing...there's usually a wifi connection for downloads n updates nowadays

I wanted something different. Nothign against HTC, I loved my evo. And truth be told I may prefer sense to touchwiz. But we, my girlfriend and I picked up a couple notes. The screen size is amazing, no complaints there. Battery life the past couple days has been in the 10-12 hour range, which seems a little low to me since it was with less then moderate use. But then again I am comparing to my rooted evo running decks reloaded and mason SBC which would last forever, lol.
I was hoping to be more wowed by the note like I was when I got my evo. But I think the jump from a blackberry curve to the evo was a bit more of a wow move then what moving fromt he evo to the note is. The note is a great phone, and my girlfriend loves it. I need to really get my hands dirty with it and see what it can do, but I am keeping my options open.

That's expected; jumping from one OS to the other is way different than just switching phone manufacturers. Android to Android isn't that amazing; Android to iOS (or, preferably the other way around ) is.
Either way, seems you're warming up to your phone nicely. Always good to hear that. If you stick with it, great. If not, I would recommend the One X should this phone disappoint down the road. You have some time to test drive it, so get what you can out of it before making that final decision.

I would make the decision based on; what 3G speeds you get now, if where you live will get Sprint's LTE soon, and if you already have Wimax coverage.
So I guess I'm saying it kind of depends.

I am in columbus OH, I have 4G on both att and sprint and i imagine ATT and sprint will both have LTE here by the end of the year.
I haven't read up much on the HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy SIII, but one thing iI loved about the evo was how easy it was to root/flash and not brickbrick the thing. Looking at the note forums, I see a lot of posts about bricked phones. Granted I haven't read all the details, but it seems rooting/flashing is less safe on the note, which kind of sucks. Are the One X or SIII any easier to root/flash?
Just realized I was viewing the international note forums. The art note forums seem a little more user friendly

Well, if I knew for sure about LTE coming to my area within a year on Sprint, I would stay with Sprint. Personally I would get a Wimax device OFF contact (Epic Touch is Sprint's best Wimax device), and wait til the end of the year to see if LTE will actually come. Then make my decision. If you are completely done with Sprint though, just jump ship now. No reason to wait.

Trade my Note for Galaxy Nexus or HTC OneX

Hey folks, First off, I LOVE my note. It's the only reason I stuck it out this long but to make a long story short it almost left my daughter stranded in a very unfamiliar place yesterday. I am currently on T-mobile and as you know we don't get much love as far as service with the Note. So I put up with the signal bar with a nice pretty little x in it many times because I flat out love my phone even though my wife would have 4 bars of 4g. Well this incident made me realize that while having an awesome phone that barely works as a phone or just about anything else without wifi that having service and signal is more important. So here is what I'm looking for:
Trade: My unlocked galaxy note (Currently running Asylum ICS V09) with black speck case and has liquid armor for display protection.
Want: Galaxy Nexus or and HTC One X ( maybe S for T-mobile as well )
Also willing to sell for $400 flat ( Nothing less will be considered )
So before I go to the craigslist or feebay I wanted to give my trusted XDA people a first shot at it So PM me if interested!
Hopefully I will be seeing you guys in the Note 2 forums one day as I will be dying to get my big momma back

seeing that many people complain about this, let me get it straight,:
can you not use an international unlocked phone in the states? why is everyone complaining about weak signal? it should either work on that frequency or not work at all ,right? so why work with low coverage?
either ways this sucks and is totally unacceptable

Its not that it doesn't work. It's that it doesn't receive the 1700mHz band which T-mobile uses for it's 4g service. It will work fine on other gsm providers in US but unfortunately not on T-mobile until they convert to the 1900mHz band. So I pretty much get Edge wherever I'm at. One of our guys Bedwa has been working hard on getting it to work but there is no guarantees.

that should effect the speed not signal bars? I mean EDGE vs 4G is all about speeds
but you mention being with no coverage at all sometimes ? maybe their 4G coverage is better than 2G? is that it?
also I would suggest you change providers and not the phone ,cause you'll miss it

I used to work for AT&T so I refuse to go back to them lol. I know I will miss this beast, and I don't know the ins and outs of signal strength, I just know my wife has great service and laughs at me when I can barely send a text. If I wasn't invested into 3 lines of 2 year contracts with T-mobile however I would be gone in a heartbeat but I don't have the funds to quit right this minute. So I will reluctantly wait for the Note 2 and be back as soon as it releases

Both are good choices. If you like a pure experience go for the Nexus, if you like Sense go for the HTC One X.

Yeah, I did quite a bit of research before I decided what I would "step down" to before I posted. I actually like both devices very much. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages that I can easily work with. So like I said, if anyone knows someone who has either device but wants to get their hand on a note. Im up for the transaction

If I were you I would avoid the One X. The reason I got my note was because of HTC's ineptitude.

OP, maybe the phone is faulty? What is your location? If you have any older Android phones, put your sim card in it, and force the Android phone to stick to EDGE/2G connections only to test the signal. If your older Android phone gets a single just fine, something is wrong with your Note.
I'm in the same predicament as you in terms of being on T-Mobile. Thankfully, I'm always within the area of WIFI. In terms of GPS, I just use the lab feature in googlemaps to precache map areas....and it works!
P.S. Open a thread in the marketplace. And be wary of anyone "PM-ing" you. Take the whole sale to the marketplace before doing anything just to be safe. And pay attention to any offers you get, and the person who is making the offer and their joining date. Good luck.

I just got hold of a Note after getting the One X. I wasn't entirely happy with the One so it will be going on ebay. The One has a great screen, and the f2.0 camera lens made taking low light photos easy. The downsides of the phone however are numerous in my opinion.
Design - the layout makes it hard to wake the phone one handed, as the power button is tiny and the capacitive home button doesn't wake it. The front camera is recessed, which makes it a grime magnet. The rear camera protrudes, making it a scratch magnet
Camera - excellent lens and camera app, average at best sensor (I actually think the Note takes better photos), poor quality HD video
Sound - forget all the Beats audio marketing hype, the One X has the worst sound quality out of any phone I've ever owned. The amount of hiss/crackles coming from the DAC make it sound like a long wave radio. I use my phone a lot for music, so this really put me off the One X.
Battery - in standard form the battery was terrible. The only way I could get a full day from it was to install a custom rom, reduce the auto brightness levels (which are blindingly high by default), turn off all push notifications and disable 2 of the 4 cpu cores. It also took 4 hours to charge!
Performance - very quick, but probably too quick for what the hardware can take. The phone gets incredibly hot when gaming to the point where the screen is almost too hot to touch. If you try and game while it's charging, you'll be greeted with a message telling you the phone is too hot and whatever you're playing will be terminated.
All these things made me try the Note. While it's not as snappy as the X and doesn't have a screen that's as nice as the X, it still performs well, still has a decent screen, better designed, has much better audio and has a phenomenal battery.
I think I'll be sticking with it

Yeah I checked into all that. When I am at my buddies house I get perfect 4g service. I just can't stand the edge stuff. However I did not realize you could pre cache map data. That's awesome!! So thanks for heads up

The problem sounds like T-Mobile. Why not use your phone on Straight Talk, which is basically AT&T. I get excellent service on my Note. I highly recommend any AT&T compatible phone on Straight Talk. My wifes iPhone 4S works great on it as well. $45 a month unlimited everything, 4G speeds, not like T-Mobile's very slow speeds.
